We've been going to Back Bay Vet since 2011. We've been coming here since the day we got our first baby, our Chinese Crested Powderpuff, and he was almost 15 years old when he passed last week. Writing this is still very hard... because I am deeply grieving, but I needed to say this. Dr. Fanous is truly one of the most caring and amazing person I have ever met. Not just as a vet, but as a human. Over the years there have been many different front desk staff and technicians, but Dr. Fanous has always been there, steady and kind, and that consistency meant everything to us... He genuinely cares. He never overcharges, never pushes unnecessary treatments, and you can feel that he does this work out of love, not money. It's the finals seconds of the 4th quarter of Game 7 of the finals and Skippy's triple double gave his team a one point lead. The lead seemed temporary as he fell down and clutched his leg after he was fouled rather aggressively. He looked right at me as I stood in the crowd and he shook his head. No...not like this. The coach called for one last time out and the crowd fell silent as Skippy limped his way to the bench. The medical staff checked his leg and nodded with a look of concern. The coach slammed the clipboard to the ground and grabbed the back of his head with frustration, his teammates dropped their heads to the ground in an exasperated manner, and Skippy sighed with what can only be described as accepting defeat. The various reactions only gave confirmation of the worst news as the commentators announced the obvious- "It looks like Skippy has torn his ACL. Will he be able to make the free throws while balancing on one leg and secure his team's victory? Does he have that DAWG in him?!" Fast forward to the patient room of Back Bay Veterinary Hospital. The spotless floor and orderly shelves were signs of a hopeful future. A future that Skippy clings on to with a stubborn tenacity. A future where he can play basketball again. Skippy's almost lost his BDE, that is, Big Dog Energy. Dr. K comes in accompanied by the vet tech like a ray of light in a bleak situation. There was no mistake that it was an ACL tear. Our concerns were washed away like rain on a dirty car by Dr. K's reassuring words. These ACL tears are the most common form of injuries on canines, and while debilitating, it does not have to be permanent. And two days after the initial exam, I picked up Skippy from his surgery with a cast on his back right leg. While I was told that the healing process varies between animals, Back Bay made sure to further assist Skippy by providing instructions to expedite the healing accompanied with laser therapy in the next couple of months. They even let me assist in giving Skippy laser therapy once by holding him still. He had some really stylish googles. They let me wear one too since I was in the room, but it wasn't as stylish on me. Whether or not your pet is a baller, Back Bay Vet has gained my trust in taking proper care of any pet that comes their way. I just got back from walking Skippy now (almost 3 months after his surgery), and you couldn't even tell that he had an ACL tear. He can't wait to start summer training in a few weeks and be with his team again. I asked if they could do a lab test on it and the doctor said it might not show any results because it was such a small bump. I ended up going to another vet to get a second opinion. This vet strongly suggested that I do a lab test. I opted for that and while I was waiting for the results, the bump kept getting smaller and smaller. Now it's been over a week and the bump is almost nonexistent. I'm sure glad I didn't have to have my dog go through a pointless operation. I'd stay away from this place. Wonderful service, staff and facility! Our normal vet was closed on a Saturday and our sweet old dog needed to be seen quickly. We have been taking our cat here since she was a kitten. The past 2 times they have been neglecting her. When we picked up our cat we noticed significant weight loss. They asked us for dental cleaning while she was staying with them, they did not get it done. She was in her cage. The whole time which was five days. Saying she was being aggressive. We love BBVH!! The ladies in the front office and the tech staff are so kind, friendly and helpful. No matter how busy they are, you will always be greeted with a smile. I could not sing his praises often enough or loud enough to do him true justice! Our Miss Chanel required surgery on her leg. Dr. K performed her surgery and ensured that she is recovering without any complications. He is an awesome surgeon! During her recovery, we were not comfortable taking her to her regular groomer as there are still some restrictions we must adhere to. Thankfully, BBVH also offers grooming services. I'll be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect. We've visited a few groomers over the years until we found the one that gave her the "perfect haircut." When I picked up Chanel after her grooming appointment, I could not have been happier! She was squeaky clean and her teddy bear haircut was perfect! I have a very hyper 15 month old pure bread akc black German shepherd. He is a lot! We have been kicked out of pet smart because he jumped on a tech and even though i was paying for training there, they said until he is less hyper they can't take him. The first moment i walked into back bay vet hospital, i was instantly at ease. They were calm, nice and when i expressed my concerns to a nice tall blonde lady, she just had everything down and helped me. They really worked with me and understood that a 15 month old German shepherd needs a lot of activity. The nice blonde lady even told the vet tech, to make sure they walk him a lot cause he needs a lot of exercise. When i brought shadow home he tore his bandages. I took him back to the vet and Dr. Estefan came out to talk to me. He understood how hard it was to keep him calm and worked out an arrangement with me to sedate my dog and re do his bandages and have him stay at the hospital for a week so they can take care of him and get him better. He did not price gauge me. He was kind and understanding. I won't ever go any place else. They are the first ones to understand my shadow is friendly and sweet, but hyper and super playful. After a devastating situation with my just turn 3 year old French bulldog we did a spine surgery she made it through surgery and passed away with me 5 days later. Addelynn was healthy and just had a accident to cause her to go fully paralyzed from the waist down. We did everything we could and I'm grateful for him and his team. I have another 9 year old French bulldog rosko whose had health issues since he was 1 years old a knee/joint problem where his knee cap slips out of place often and pre retina disease. Stay away! No communication within their team or with customers, did not care for my sick dog while boarding, and said he should be doing better when they never treated him. The Dirty Details- if you want them: I have used Back Bay many times to board my dog, and have loved the chance when I get to see my pup with the kennel assistants because they clearly give him love during his stay. But their communication within their own team has always been noticeably poor. I have always felt that the front desk has no idea what happened with my dog while boarding but seeing the interaction with the kennel assistants made me come back and learn to ask them specifically how his stay has been. However this last trip my dog needed veterinary care, which is the main reason why I chose to book him there in the first place. They emailed me the information and I thought everything was taken care of and he was given treatment for the illness like they stated. I continued to check in and explain email was the best way to communicate as I was out of the country but I also gave them a contact that was local in case they needed to call. I received some emails but their team did not follow up on all of my questions. When picking my dog up I followed up again on the illness and any follow up treatment/care. The front desk had no idea what I was talking about but after time to ask around they assured me he should be doing better and will just need a follow up test in three weeks. I take my pup home and within a week he is still sick so I call again, turns out the communication I received was completely false. They provided no treatment to my sick dog and lied to me saying he should be doing better while in fact they just prolonged his sickness. I would not take your dog there and I won't be returning. I BROUGH MY DOG HERE AND WITHIN 20 MINUTES HE WAS DEAD AND I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW. I HAD TO WALK INTO A FUCKING TERRIBLE SURPRISE AND BE SHOCKED WITH THIS TRAUMATIC EVENT THAT I HAVE TO LIVE WITH FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. If I could give zero stars I would have. I've never had to write a review like this but the way things were handled was so fucking awful. My dog was sick starting on Sunday night and by Tuesday morning I brought him to a hospital in the area and they said they were closing soon so they recommended Back Bay. So many red flags and I should have trusted my gut as someone who is an energy healer. I felt so sick to my stomach and it got worse and worse and my bf confirmed he felt all the same things I did, like things didn't add up. First red flag: They thought my dog was there for another procedure and were super confused about why we were there even though we had never been there before and filled out a new client form. Second red flag: They said the doctor would come to speak with us to get more information and he never did. Even though having the right information would have made things go very differently I believe. I gave the girl some information about how he had been throwing up, his condition etc. Third red flag: The girl came back with a bill for $700 for blood work and fluids. She said and I quote, " You can come back in a few hours he just needs fluids and maybe you can even come back early. " I gave my dog a kiss on the head and handed him off thinking I would see him in a few hours because I trusted the doctor as a professional to assess his condition as I am not a vet. I said to the girl, is he ok because he gets a lot of anxiety without me? She said he was laying down and fine. Within 19 minutes, I walked into my home, the vet called and said that my dog is not doing good and he was having seizures and that he was dying. His voice sounded false and with zero emotion. My legs fell out from under me and I was so confused. 19 minutes ago he just needed fluids now he was dying, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? I told them I was on my way back. I called back again in a few minutes to see if he was gonna make it, I was only 15 minutes away the doctor said again word for word, he is not doing good he is having seizures, he is dying, we are trying to save him. When we returned, we walked in and he was dead. Lying there, dead and gone. His eyes starting to get cloudy and his legs already rigor mortis. 40 minutes had passed since we left him. The vet said I'm sorry. He said he had given him valium and then his heart slowed and so he gave him an upper and then his kidneys failed. What really makes me angry is that if he had talked to me and understood that he had not been able to keep water down since Sunday night, and had not eaten since Saturday night he would realize that in those 20 minutes you took blood from my 15 pound dog then shot him up with drugs and then his kidneys failed, he was severely dehydrated and weak and he was tiny. You could have held him until I got back to say goodbye but instead you euthanized my dog and he died alone without me and I have to live with that. When we entered the room he kept saying sorry, but things didn't add up and he seemed freaked out at how upset we were and then he said that his labs were really bad and he was really sick but that was a fucking lie. The week before he was running full blast at the beach, then he said he would have been depressed for months. He kept speculating about his condition and yes he was sick but he never acted sick. You never bothered to communicate with me and therefore you didn't have all the information. He then kept asking if we wanted to cremate him and there was no way I was leaving his body there. We then took his body and drove to my parents house in AZ and buried him back in the earth where he belonged among the cactus. While I understand the nature of the situation, I know everyone dies, in my gut, heart and soul something was not right about that day and I have to live with that for the rest of my life. My dog was with me for 13 and a half years, never sick a day in his life, he was like my child. He was with me through 9 moves, boyfriends, he survived a dog attack 5 years prior where he almost died, and he was the sweetest boy. I hope this review makes you think twice about effectively communicating and asking questions because what happened that day was a fucking nightmare I am still healing from. read more

I cannot recommend Back Bay enough! I was first recommended this place by my friend. I brought in one of my dogs to get a second opinion since another vet had diagnosed my dog with neurological issues and would need an MRI. Dr. Estefan examined my dog and caught that my dog had a kidney (and other organ) issue. I was so thankful that I got a second opinion because I would have spent so much on an MRI. Dr. Estefan took his time with my dog in the examination room and was so kind to him. He was patient and very informative. He would recommend products that he would use on his own dogs. Dr. Estefan had made recommendations that best fit my dog which were a blood and urine test and then an ultrasound. I had countless questions concerning my dog, and Dr. Estefan would never hesitate to answer my questions. Because of Dr. Estefan, my dog is in a much better state and hopefully will live a longer life. Thank you so so much, Dr. Estefan. Thank you to Dr. K as well! Our dog has been getting veterinary care at Back Bay Veterinary Hospital for 5 years. We noticed our dog had been scratching around his ears and shaking his head a lot, so we called Back Bay and got an appointment on the same day. When we arrived, the front office people checked us in and answered some questions about our dog's vaccine record. We waited about 10 minutes before meeting with the vet. Our dog was still scratching around his ear. Everyone at Back Bay was friendly and the hospital was very clean. The vet examined our dog, tech swabbed our dog's ears, and vet prescribed ear drop treatment. I'm so disappointed. I heard such great things about this veterinary office and was sold by its close proximity to my house but each time I go my experience is worse and worse. I have been bringing my puppy in since the day I got him and my first impression was great. But when I came in for his third round of parvo etc. I had questions about an incubation period after the third shot and just his overall health. None of my questions were answered because I was forced to argue with a rude vet tech that it wasn't his third shot but his second. I explained to her I came in with records and his first shot was given to him by the breeder. She wasn't having it. Finally after a long debate she gave his shot and brought him back. The girl who rang up my card brought me his vaccine certificate which was more confusing because the vet tech was insistent they had no record of his first shot. That was finally resolved when I got home and put together all the records myself. Last week I brought him in for what looked like allergies or a possible eye infection. I was told it was pink eye and given some meds. They wanted to schedule a follow up and I was told to come back in today since his rabies vaccine was already scheduled. I waited 45 minutes at this appointment before anyone even checked him in. He developed diarrhea the next day so my boyfriend brought him back in and once again confirmed today's appointment for the rabies shot and eye check up. Today I arrive and am told they won't be administering it as he isn't a full 16 weeks (he is in a few days and they have his DOB on file) and he had diarrhea last week. Never once was it suggested I reschedule this appointment prior to me arriving there and waiting. This office was recommended by the GSD rescue and had good reviews which is why I came here but it's clear there is a complete lack of communication between the veterinarians, the technicians and the front desk staff. Please don't get me wrong, the majority of the office was very kind to me but this lack of organization and record keeping is upsetting and I feel a danger to my pup. The lack of record keeping is clear even just in small details. I was asked to fill out new patient forms (and did so) and my address is still "1234 apple tree". I hate that this has been my experience here as I had every intention of having him be able to board here and go to daycare here but I can't risk his health and well being and unfortunately can't trust this office to keep track of his needs. read more
