The staff there is knowledgeable and friendly, without trying to take you for a ride with charges and services. It's very easy for pet hospitals to be predatory, but not here! Not saying all but others will try to scare you into needing so many extra expensive services when you come in worried about your pets. When our dog got sick, we rushed him to another place that wanted to charge us over $5k for a laundry list of services they said would be required, that didn't feel right. We waited til the following day to come here and it was a day and night difference. The vet listed each service which was itemized and they gave opinions of what could be optional without any pressure to do, we spent a fraction of what the first place quoted - I've come back to them a couple times now. This review has been a long time coming. We've been part of the BBPH for 20+ years and have seen it change hands. When the current owner, Dr. Kumar, took over it turned into a big money grab. We put down our lab a few years ago and at the end of his life, he could not even stand up and was so out of it. They had the nerve to charge us extra to be in the room with us when they euthanized him. It was so heartless and they said it was for our protection in case he reacts, but he could not move at all. Fast-forward to our other dog, when we were battling severe allergy issues with her, our bills were anywhere from $700-$1000 each office visit and Dr. Kumar said to me on the phone "If and when you are ready to give up, I know someone who will adopt her" I have never forgotten those words from her. I am not one to leave negative reviews but just want to spare other animal owners to get second opinions and find a vet who is going to love your animal and treat you as family over swiping your credit card repeatedly. read more

Baker Bristol Pet Hospital Staff are fine. However, every time you drop off your pet, it's like taking it to an oil change place, they want to upcharge you on everything possible. My dog gets ear infections every 3-6 months and a $150 visit ends up being $650-$850 every time and they will not treat just the ear infection. I would advise to be cautious choosing this location. I came to Baker Bristol Pet Hospital as a new patient after my cat recently had a urinary obstruction. At our first appointment on 4/29, I saw Dr. Moore, who was kind and thorough. We ran a urinalysis and I was told that, if needed, a culture could be added later using the same sample. I also started his FELV vaccine series and scheduled a tech visit for his next dose on 5/22. On 5/2, I had to take my cat to the emergency vet because he was vomiting and straining in the litter box. The vet suspected a UTI, but couldn't collect urine. I mentioned I was waiting on test results from Baker Bristol. I called them around 7 AM and was told results were in but no doctor was available. After no follow-up, I called again at noon and was told the urinalysis had come back positive for a UTI on 4/30, but no one had contacted me because Dr. Moore wasn't in. I asked to have a culture added, only to be told I'd need to bring my cat back in for a new sample--contrary to what I was told before. Later, after I called yet again, I was informed the culture could, in fact, be added to the existing sample and that antibiotics should start right away. It took three separate calls initiated by me to get a straight answer--something that should've happened when the results came in. Had I been notified promptly, I may have avoided the emergency vet visit and my cat could've experienced less pain and stress. Despite my concerns, I wanted to give a second chance. I was later called with results that showed E. coli, and told that the antibiotic prescribed should be effective. I was also told additional bacteria might grow and to expect a follow-up--none came. I scheduled a follow-up urinalysis for 5/15. During that visit, I was told the results would take 3-5 days. I questioned this, and after checking, the tech confirmed she was mistaken and they would be ready in 24 hours. I also asked to move my 5/22 vaccine visit to be with Dr. Kumar and was told my cat wasn't due for vaccines, which again contradicted the prior visit. After insisting they recheck, they admitted the first dose had been entered incorrectly and he was due. I was then told Dr. Kumar would not be available during that timeframe. When checking out, I was told I wouldn't get results until Monday when Dr. Moore would be in. I asked to be informed as soon as they came in. I got a call the next morning confirming my cat still had a UTI. I asked about the culture results and was told there was no additional growth and the previous doctor had misspoken that results weren't final. I requested a copy of the report and a call back to clarify. I received neither. I followed up at 1 PM and was told she would call later. By 5 PM, I still hadn't heard back, so I went in person. The front desk seemed irritated I'd shown at closing but I was able to speak with Dr. Kumar. While I appreciated her time, my concerns were brushed off. Dr. Kumar said the gaps were due to following COC and suggested I book directly with her in the future. She recommended a Convenia injection, which I scheduled for the next morning. That morning, my cat again showed urinary symptoms. I called at 7 AM asking if I could bring him in earlier and if they could quickly check his bladder to ensure he wasn't blocked. I was told they couldn't do an exam until a doctor arrived at 9, and no appointments would be available. He received his injection and was sent home without a check. Nearly every interaction involved misinformation. Results weren't communicated in a timely manner. Instructions were inconsistent. Records were entered incorrectly. Staff frequently gave inaccurate answers and rarely followed up without being prompted multiple times. I had already thought about transferring care after the initial urinalysis situation but each situation that followed only made me more regretful that I hadn't done it sooner. The team members and doctors I spoke with at Baker Bristol with the exception of the one front office staff member on 5/16, were pleasant and caring. It seems like there are some practices in place that may not have your pet's best interest in mind, such as waiting on positive test results for 3+ days. I also feel that some staff members may benefit from additional training given the number of times someone misspoke or was misinformed. I believe Baker Bristol is probably a good option if you are just looking for standard care and there may be many others have had a positive experience with more emergent care. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. read more

Dr. Kumar and Baker Bristol saved my baby, Harlow. Harlow is over 7 years now and luckily has been healthy thus far. But around the holidays I noticed she was slowing down a bit, unfortunately I contributed it to old age. : ( One evening, I heard a little scuffle... she is free roam and I went to find her... she was stuck behind a door, rolling!!! It was terrifying! I tried to get her comfy, gave her some old pain meds and put her in a carrier. Rolling again!!! My heart was breaking! I held her all night in a towel and called Baker Bristol when the sun came up. Dear, Dr. Kumar agreed to get her in ASAP. I am so happy I found her again. Harlow had a severe eye and ear infection and Dr. Kumar put her on an array of meds. It was tough nursing her back to health, she hates the meds and being cooped up- but without the compassionate team at Baker, she wouldn't have made it! About 2 weeks later she was doing binkies again! I really appreciate the personal time Dr. Kumar and they staff took to explain what was going on and to check on her after I brought her home. The girls at the desk were sympathetic and kind to me. I had a bunny Sterling who had hind leg paralysis several years earlier... Dr. Kumar saved him too! He even started hopping again. I was sad when I had to eventually put him down... Dr. Kumar was no longer at the office. It was a horrible experience with a male exotic vet there. : ( Anyways, vet bills are not cheap, having a sick pet is heart-wrenching! But you can tell Dr. Kumar and Baker Bristol really care. Because I had a good experience when I brought my bunny here for care, I made an appointment for my cat. I explained that it would be my 1st visit with her. When I arrived they asked about vaccine history. I explained that she had her initial shots but being an indoor cat and 17 years old she didn't need any vaccinations. Without even seeing her, they insisted that she would need a rabies shot. Since she was exhibiting concerning symptoms I said I would not want one. I asked if I should leave and they said yes. My cat was quite sick and they wouldn't even look at her because of the insistence on a rabies shot. Knowing this was my 1st time coming with my cat they could have told me this when I made the appointment which wasted my and my cats time and caused a lot of unnecessary stress. This is criminal emotional abuse of vulnerable pet owners. Run! You can get a vitamin B12 drip with a host of immune boosting minerals and vitamins and antioxidants for $200. This is fraudulent. Update; PETCO plays the same game of manipulation and dishonesty pretending to be unable to talk about prices for anything till you've spent $70 on an appointment. Just found a vet in Santa Ana that quoted $49 for appointment and $120 for the same IV drip procedure. Greedy people take advantage of vulnerable pet owners. Beware!! read more

We have been going here for the last 2 years for our pup. Each time we are met with awful front desk service. The staff does not seem to care about animals. We walk in and they ignore us. We weigh our dog who is nervous and they don't help with that, I have to figure out how to get my dog to stay on the weigher while it's shaking myself. For shots, they haven't let me back there but my dog shakes every time. We have only had one good encounter with a vet there who is very sweet but it's mainly the front desk service that's horrible. Just always awkward, they don't seem to care. We wish they tried to accommodate our dogs needs more and be attentive to him being nervous. Use treats or a nice voice to calm him down. That usually helps him!! But why just forcefully bring him to the back. The doctor we always had is always always pushing for more tests and shots and not informing us on why exactly we need to get them. It's frustrating to feel like a vet just wants your money. The waiting time is always a joke for the amount of time the doctor is actually with your pet. We just have not had a good experience here sadly. read more

I brought my new kitten Rin for her 12 week shot, general wellness exam, and to have her eye infection checked out. It was originally scheduled a week after I took her but since her eye infection wasn't getting better, they were able to schedule her for the next available Saturday. The team at Baker Bristol is sweet, caring, and compassionate. Since we're all on isolation, I only interacted with the team briefly while waiting in my car but from my overall experience, I was really impressed! The vet also gave me a call to see how Rin was doing and that was really nice. As far as pricing goes, I think it's the standard pricing. I came here to get the free check up after rescuing a pup from the pound. This vet was on a list of vets for this service. I was the only one in the waiting room, so they put me in a room and told me that the vet would be in in a few minute. I heard her taking others ahead of me that came in after me. After waiting a full hour I walked out. This vet clearly does not care about animals well being. if the vet would have cared, I would have gone back to them and they would have had a paying customer. but that's pretty heartless to leave me in a room that long knowing that I was there. My friends and I have noticed that now there are exam$ upon exam$ and test$ upon test$. They love to recommend treatments and require a full annual exam (for a cytopointe allergy injection, REALLY? Come on.) They can't bill you enough! Worst costumer service here. Every time I go they take a long time to get you in. Don't even tell you how much longer it will take. Zero communication. Then when they present your bill they add a bunch of charges you should NOT be charged with. They said my dog defecated while they were trying to cut his nails & charged me over $30 plus for that! Didn't even cut his nails and STILL charge me for a nail trim! I now found out I have to euthanize my pet. They're trying to charge me $65 to "check first if he needs to be euthanized" when I have proof a vet already said he needs to be euthanized. Made me wait 10 min on the phone just to get answers on how much the cost is. One worker did not know but was respectful on the phone, the second guy on the phone was super rude and hung up on me after I said I'm just looking for the right price, since it is so expensive to euthanize. He said "No worries" and hung up. I was not done! Btw almost $1,000 to euthanize your dog here if you want to be there with them / keep the remains and buy the two options of boxes they have. My dog has been coming here for 5 years annually for his physicals and everything else. Today my dog was scheduled for a physical and vaccines and we had an absolute horrible experience! We were running late and had called to ask if we can move back or push back the appt. We were told we'd get a $50 cancellation fee and we can't even be 5 minutes late to the appt. We got there on time reluctantly then put into a room where we sat and waited for 30 minute while my anxious and scared dog was getting worse. We didn't get an FYI doctor is running late or anything from staff right in front of the door. Finally the doctor arrives and asks a few questions attempts to look at my dog's mouth but he's now level 10 anxiety and was resisting so she said needed an assistant to help. Few minutes later the techs knocked and came in tip toeing as if my dog were a killer. (Not once did my dog show aggression during the vet visit but he definitely felt the doctors and the staff's vibe) we put the leash around my buddy's neck and he went off happily with the techs. They come back with him and I was told to come to the front to check out. I ask for an invoice of services prior to paying and got a nasty attitude and push back from the very rude receptionist Donica. "didn't you see the invoice before we did everything" (Noooo I didn't they just took him back gave him the vaccines and told me to pay.) I never got a chance to talk to the doctor about how my dog was doing or anything so I asked to speak with the doctor and with more attitude and pushback Donica told her other staff who happens to walk by to carry on the task. Doctor comes and I had to explain to her I want to know about my dog's health, she then told me she wasn't able to look at his teeth or inside his ears. She said he tried to bite her when she did so she didn't. My dog is anxious and strong but not aggressive. Still had to pay for a physical which I don't mind but the fact that she was just going to let me off and not tell me she wasn't able to do a full exam does not sit well with me. I'll be taking my dog else where tomorrow for a complete physical. This is not okay there's got to be a board for veterinary doctors or something that goes against this read more

This is the worst veterinary hospital I have ever been to. As detailed below, in my personal opinion--which is based on my experience coming here for way too long--Baker Bristol pulls every trick in the book to maximize their profits on the backs of the animals they "treat," engaging in the folllowing pattern and practice of behavior that I personally believe to be systematically dishonest and fraudulent: 1) First, Baker Bristol blows up your phone with relentless, borderline harassing calls, geared toward leveraging legally necessary vaccinations to get you in the door; 2) If you're stupid enough to fall for that--which, regrettably, I have been--they then perform a host of medically unnecessary and unauthorized tests behind your back, without even telling you or getting your permission ahead of time; 3) When you return to pick up your pet from what was supposed to be no more than a general checkup, they slap you with a surprise bill that is hundreds of dollars higher than you were told it would be, along with a series of bogus "diagnoses," and they pressure you to buy expensive medications that are not only clinically indefensible, but--in my experience--also geared toward poisoning and making your pet sicker, just so Baker Bristol can line their pockets with what is, essentially, blood money; and 4) Hiring and--for some reason I will never understand--continuing to employ a receptionist named Phil, who, in my opinion--which, again, is based on my individual interactions with him--is a shockingly abusive, unabashed moron that I think only makes this place worse with his general incompetence and laughable absence of people skills, as well as his apparently unwaivering loyalty to his ostensibly corrupt employers and his arguably systematic, reckless disregard for the health and safety of the pets whose owners are dumb enough to come here. Based on my opinion, as set forth above, I will never come back to Baker Bristol again, and I hope the damage I believe they have caused to my pet's health and safety can be undone by an honest veterinarian somewhere else. read more

My dog needed an emergency surgery while we were in Newport (about 30 minutes from home and our normal vet). A friend referred me to Baker Bristol and they were quickly able to see my dog and preform the surgery. Dr. Meredith was a heaven sent! The price was reasonable, and she made it extremely clear what my options were. This was something I did not experience at my original vet. I continued the follow up check ups at the vet near my house due to the convenience. That vet was amazed and spoke so highly of the way the stitches and procedure were done. She said "whoever the surgeon was did one of the best jobs I've ever seen". As I continued at my original vet I would compare prices and every time Baker Bristol was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper. We've now made the full switch to Baker Bristol and choose to drive the extra 30 minutes because of the amazing service and transparency we receive at BB. During our visit, my 2 year-old Lionhead Rabbit was diagnosed with bad arthritis, she came back with several treatment options and a plan to keep her healthy and comfortable. Although going to the vet is never fun, Dr. Kumar and her staff make the experience as positive as possible. She really spends her time with my pup and listens to all of my concerns. We are recent college graduates and she always works with us to find a treatment plan that fits within our budget. Even if we have to get creative! This review is LONG overdue!!! Dr. Kumar and her staff give outstanding, reliable, and compassionate care! I've been taking all 6 of my fur babies (2 bunnies and 4 dogs) to Dr. Kumar for years. I actually first found out about her because she also donates her services to a local bunny rescue, and I had just rescued one of my buns, who needed to be spayed. She was so caring, knowledgeable, and personable, that I decided she had to be the veterinarian for the whole crew! Fast forward and some of my dogs are now seniors and require specialty care for ailments - arthritis, dementia, seizures. Its been emotionally, physically, and financially challenging, but Dr. Kumar and her staff have gone above and beyond in providing exceptional quality care with empathy, insight, and skill. Just an example of why I am so thankful of Dr. Kumar and the Baker Bristol Pet Hospital and why I'm writing this long overdue review: a few weeks ago, my oldest dog Kenjii (super senior) had a light night visit to an ER at 12:00 am with a perforated eye and almost died. After being stabilized and released from the ER at 6 am, I drove straight to Baker Bristol Pet Hospital, sat in the car teary eyed until the doors opened at 7am, and staff took him in immediately (thank you so much ladies!), and Dr. Kumar came in that morning and performed an emergency enucleation - ON HER DAY OFF. If this doesn't tell you the kind of dedication she has to her patients I don't know what else you need to hear. After a tough recovery period and a few strokes, Kenjii is now doing great! And another bonus?!! Dr. Kumar is an ivy grad from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. High quality veterinary care at fair and reasonable costs.
