Make sure you wear a hat. The weather was lovely though overall because there was a breeze coming in from the ocean. The biggest disappointment was that there were several E bike riders and not only were they loud but very fast and disruptive. There is a sign that says no E bikes, but nobody was enforcing that.

I could even see all the way to Catalina last time I visited. The El Moro Canyon trails are found inside Crystal Cove State Park and there are quite a few of them. They're well maintained with lots of info signs so they're easy to follow - but they're also all on AllTrails. I did the Short Loop Trail on my last visit which ended up being just over 3 miles long with 500 feet elevation gain. Most of the gain is in the first part as you take the "Poles" cut through and it's a real butt burner - but fun and worth it! A great workout. The birding is excellent here - you get a nice mix of riparian habitat and coastal birds as well. After my hike, I relaxed at the beach a bit and it was a lovely way to wind down. There are some tide pools at the north end and plenty of space to relax on the sand as well. There's a pedestrian underpass to get to the beach so you don't have to cross busy Hwy 1 - and this is the most unpleasant part of the park - you have to wade through some pretty icky standing water to get to the beach. It's ankle to calf deep and the ground is very uneven so I highly recommend water shoes - who knows what's submerged in there :P But everything else about the park is great - lots of clean bathrooms, outdoor showers to rinse off the salt and sand, shaded picnic tables, a huge amphitheater, and plenty of paved parking. Day use fee is $15 and you can pay by QR code or at the entrance.

The bay is obviously much cooler/colder in the winters. Loved the various signs showing fun facts about the Bay and signage to direct people where to go and what's permitted.

It's a great place for joggers, hikers, bicyclists, horseback riders, birders and campers. There were numerous educational classes being held while we hiked the trails. There are great water views along the trails. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash. There is a long paved path for biking and running, and many narrow dirt trails off the path. Parking lots are available in several spots on the trail, and some on street parking. The flowers were in bloom during our trip, and were quite spectacular. There are numerous scenic overlooks along the trail, and as it happened, and eclipse during our visit. We saw many birds including some spectacular hawks during our visit.

Patio and tables also are available interconnected with other centers of the same name with a large fore station close by. Clean...very well-maintained location. Well visited and people are friendly and accommodating. Trail to south is much.more rewarding- elevated from mild to hard - as trails become lengthy coupled with steep switch backs and open terrain. There's many viewpoints and you get a wonderful view of Back Bay. The walk really only takes like 15ish min but you can just loop around or continue towards Back Bay. Very safe and quiet area. This park is amazing and takes you straight to the viewpoint by Turtle Rock. Super easy walk up the staircase at the far right end of the park. Review 30/365 day challenge 2.04.26…read more Finally made it here to PC for a late morning hike w my hiking Gfren Pow. She's a regular here and been coming. Have told mee several times she loves this hike and it's a good hike where it's a bit more busier than other hiking trails that you feel safe to go to. Started the hike a little late morning around 11:15 a.m. and finished right before 12:40 p.m. A little over 4 miles. We went to a much easier hike trail. Where it was much shading area until you enter the hiking trail and then it was full of sun. Luckily it was a bit breezy so wasn't too fully hot. There's different areas to park, some where it's free of charge and they have the main parking where supposedly have av actual public restroom for $ 3. We parked near some residential area. Right before entering the entrance where the trail started, there was about 5 porter potties available. As all hikes there are warning signs of Rattlesnakes, poison ivy, mountain lions etc. Located in Tustin borderline of Orange. Not too far from Irvine Regional park off Jamboree. Will definitely return to hike here and check out the different trails.
