Trois le Fou Winery - Wine Tasting Room Near Me - Ventura, California

Tasting: $20 (waived with $40 wine purchase per tasting, or club membership). We're wine club members, and regular visitors to the Trois le Fou tasting room in Ventura. It's owned and operated by three retired engineers, Paul, Alan, and Tim, and they make wonderful Rhone and Bordeaux style wines from Paso Robles fruit. It's a quaint, boutique winery and tasting room, which recently joined forces with the folks from Lester Family Cellars. They each have their own tasting rooms, but they're joined and share a large production/barrel room area, which is also available for private events in addition to scheduled events and live music/comedy. They don't offer food, but you are welcome to bring in your own snacks/charcuterie. Parking is plentiful, as the business park is mostly closed on the weekends. WINES: Their wines are made in a Rhone and Bordeaux style with two club releases per year (Spring and Fall) with such varietals as Grenache, Mourvédre, Syrah, Petite Sirah, GSM blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Folle Cuvée blends, Merlot, and Merlot Reserve. It's not often that we like every single wine that we try. Their wine club offers "Looney" (4/yr), "Demented" (6/yr), and "Maniac" (12/yr) level memberships, depending on the number of bottles you want per shipment/pick-up. Bottles currently run in the $48 - $60 range (before club member discounts), but the quality and care is definitely there, so I feel they're well worth it. We simply love the Trois le Fou family and highly recommend you stop in and check out their latest vintages. I was very sure I had written a previous review for Trois Le Fou, but it appears to be gone, so here I go again. Trois Le Fou is a great little winery in Ventura. They specialize in French varietals and produce great Bordeaux and Rhone style wines in addition to their Chardonnay. I personally enjoy all of their wines, but my very favorite is their 100% Mourvèdre. I love it, but also really enjoy their GSM, Bordeaux Blend, and Chardonnay. This winery was founded by three friends, Paul, Ada, and Tim who were crazy enough to start a winery as their second career. Therefore the name Trois Le Fou or the three fools in French. I don't think it was such a crazy idea since their wines are really good. The tasting room is not too big, but they also have a very nice barrel room with additional sitting were special events are hosted. Whenever we visit the tasting room we are always greeted by friendly faces and generous pours. Service and quality are constantly stellar at Trois Le Fou. The tasting room is located in a business park, so there is plenty of parking space. Another perk is that Lester shares their barrel room space with another boutique winery, Lester Family Cellars, so you can visit two wineries without leaving the premises! Upon entrance you're immediately in the tasting room. There is a small corridor to the left, which leads to the other winery and the shared lounge in the back. As we had a small group, they offered to serve the wine tasting at the shared lounge so that we could sample offerings from both wineries. The tasting prices were reasonable and the customer service was great, we also learned quite a bit about wine making. This is a great way to sample local wines, and with easy access to both wineries you'll definitely find something for your palate! read more

Wow what a great winery in the industrial area of Ventura which was easily accessible off either telephone or Victoria freeway exit. This gem is tucked away that's for sure, so maybe thanks to our friend Jess B. who introduced us to this spot. Jess is apart of the wine club here and raved about their red wines. Following her lead a few of us came in and were greeted warmly and right away by the owner Alan and his wife. The front wine tasting area was busy but thankfully they guided us to their back warehouse tasting room which I very much preferred and enjoyed. I love being in the back with the barrels and the setup was very cool. We cozied up on their very comfortable leather couches and felt instantly at home. While it's spacious and a little barren in some ways, the owners make up for that with their hospitality and overall friendless. Alan was the owner (of the three) here the day we came and personally he made the experience for me. I'm not an avid wine drinker to be honest, so I was more coming for the atmosphere and service. Alan is passionate about this winery and very knowledgeable. I loved hearing about his background, the wines, and left feeling much more knowledgeable. I appreciate that this place had a welcoming vibe and that you didn't have to be a wine expert to drink here. While I'm not a big reds person, everyone in my group was very happy with the selection. I was happy to try a lot of wines I normally wouldn't have tried before. My favorite of the wine tasting was their Grenache. Pro tip: join their wine club! Not only because they have great wines but according to my friend who is apart of their wine club the value is tremendous and I'm sure they won't have these deals for long. Based on my friend being a member, she was able to have three of us enjoy a free wine tasting with her. How can you beat that? Well you can't! Definitely we left a nice little tip as again, four people being able to have a wine tasting for free is unheard of - their membership - wine club is elite. I know my friends been a member a long time now so I'm not sure if she got "grandfathered" into that deal or if it's ongoing but worth checking out. Even if we would have had to pay for the wine tasting it would have been well worth it. Coming here was truly a great experience and I'd love to come back again soon. read more

A Hidden Gem for Wine Lovers! This was my second time at Trois Le Fou Winery, and it exceeded my expectations once again! The first visit left me highly impressed by the passion and dedication that went into starting this winery. Rhonda gave us a personal tour of their winemaking process, from start to finish--everything is done in-house except for growing the grapes. We even had the unique experience of participating in the grape-crushing process, and Rhonda walked us through how the clusters of grapes transform into wine through fermentation. From learning about barrel aging to bottling, it was an A-to-Z masterclass on winemaking! Each weekend, they host different food vendors, trucks, and live entertainment, which is why I decided to plan my girlfriend's birthday party there. We brought about 15 people, and the winery accommodated us perfectly. There was live music, and we even met the whole "Trois Le Fou" team (Mike, Allen, Paul). A huge plus was being able to bring our own snacks and cake, which was great since my girlfriend is gluten-free and vegan. Rhonda even went the extra mile and provided a veggie platter with hummus and charcuterie-style servings, which everyone loved. During our second visit, we attended the launch of their fall batch, and their Merlot quickly became our favorite from the tasting. The club memberships they offer are amazing, and the team is incredibly accommodating. This place is going to be the next local funk zone for sure. Plus, it's located near local breweries and other wineries, making it the perfect spot for a wine-filled weekend. Highly, highly recommend! read more

Seriously one of the best wineries in Ventura County! Not only does this place have amazing wine (which I'll get into later), but it also has the best origin story. If you, like me, don't speak French, 'Trois le Fou' loosely translates to "the three fools," referring to Paul, Alan, and Tim. They are engineers by trade who turned into winemakers due to their love of wine. These guys know their wine, like to have fun, and are so clearly passionate about their craft. Every time my husband and I have gone in for a tasting, we've always enjoyed their good company and had fun conversations. Trois le Fou is tucked in a business center, with a tasting room and a larger gathering room, and soon they will also have another winery join their building. I love the abundance of natural lighting in the tasting room, and despite the limited overall space, they also have covered outdoor seating most of the time. If you're a red wine drinker, this place will be heaven for you! I love all their wines, from more medium reds like their Cab Sauv, to their fruit-forward red blend like their GSM. My favorite has to be the full-bodied Merlot, with their L'Or de Fou (a blend of Merlot, Syrah, & Mouvedre) as a close second. After moving away from Santa Barbara and the abundance of wineries close in proximity in the Funk Zone, my husband and I had been looking to join a wine club for a while. Trois le Fou had exactly what we were looking for. Not only do their tiers fit the theme (Looney, Demented, Maniac), but the club itself is pretty low maintenance with just 4 bottles/yr required for the lowest tier. What also drew us in is that they have release parties twice a year and free tasting for members + 2 guests! Tastings for members were something we were missing from a lot of other wine clubs in Ventura County. For now, it's definitely a hidden gem that I won't gatekeep any longer, so go ahead and check it out. You'll love it. They took us on a tour on how to press down the grapes to ferment them, how the business came to be (2 other owners), and introduced us to 5 delightful and tasteful wines. I had a fantastic experience here! I decided to come do a winetasting with my neighbors after talking with them about how they became members here on a whim. The directions were pretty easy to get to, and there was food across the street. My wife and I brought our two kids not knowing what to expect. To our surprise not only were the owners very understanding and interactive with my children, but so were the guest as well. I know it's not conventional to bring your children, but sometimes we have to make deal with what we can. All the wines that I tasted Had a great finish to them, but the Cabernet was definitely the best. Not only where the owners excited to have us there, but they were also very excited to share their story. Not surprisingly, we decided to become members as well. Trois le Fou produces excellent Bordeaux and Rhone variety wines right here in Ventura, so why drive all the way to Paso Robles for wine tasting when you can taste and purchase such outstanding quality wines right here in Ventura County. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and the wine making process. All the wines I tasted were excellent, but my favorite was the Merlot Reserve which really impressed me, incredibly complex with all the high notes you would expect with an exceptional Bordeaux. The Rosé was magnificent and well balanced with hints of melon and citrus, very refreshing and pleasing to the palette, All the wines had beautiful color, nose, taste and feel. They have wine tastings on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. I highly recommend that you stop in and just find out for yourself how amazing these wines are and you can also experience the wine making process during the Autumn harvest months.
