I love this place so much and I fully attribute my love of Detroit style pizza to Backlot Taphouse. The food is always great, and at this point we've tried almost every pizza on the menu. Plus the rotating beer options always offer something new. My current favorite pizza is the Cadillac because apparently hot honey and cream cheese are a magical combination of pizza toppings. We think we have found our new favorite pizza place in Omaha. We never heard about "Detroit style" pizza but we now love it. It's a rectangular pizza, four generous slices, with a medium crust, lots of sauce, and great toppings. Like an old-style taphouse, you go up to the bar to place your order. We've usually waited in line with 2-4 people ahead of us, and we've learned that if we want to carry out to order online and walk in. The line wait is worth it though because it's personal, you get your drinks at the same time, and you know where you are in the queue to get your food. The metal chairs may not be the most comfortable, but the high tops and tables are big, solid wood and comfy. It's not a loud sports bar, although there is plenty of sports stuff around. It's just casual and friendly. We go back every week or so. love it. read more

This place definitely hits the spot if you are looking for some good pizza and craft beers, actually everything we tried on our recent visit was great, I would give this place a solid 4.25 stars. The pizza they serve happens to be Detroit style, which is one of my favorites. I think it's the perfect middle ground between pub style and Chicago deep dish. The pizza has a really good, thick red sauce and a nice crispy crust, we had the Detroit classic which was double pepperoni and cheese, it was delicious. We also had a nice Caesar salad and a side of meatballs, I liked both. The meatballs looked like ones you'd get out of the frozen food section at the grocery store, but don't let that fool you, they were crispy and flavored well. Tried for the first time this past week. Lots of beer choices, probably 20+ on tap. Really enjoyed the beer choices, with many local options. The pizza was sizeable for only $10 (easy split for 2 if you're not there for an entire meal), and it was thick and crispy. Overall the pizza wasn't bursting with flavor, but it was good pizza for a bar. Of note, the server did manage to pour me the incorrect beer and serve me the wrong pizza...but it's beer and pizza, is there any such thing as bad beer or bad pizza? Not in my book. I wouldn't recommend this place as a dinner option, it just has more of a bar type feel and the food is average. I would stop in for lunch if I worked close by, or come here for a late night beer and snack. read more

I ordered a bbq chicken pizza and the garlic fries. The pizza IMO was just ok and had definitely tasted better bbq chicken. The fries were solid however and I am really picky on good fries. Looking for new places to eat last night I came across backlot. The picture of their game rack sold me. On top of all the delicious looking food options. Unfortunately we got so wrapped up in Rick&Morty CLUE I completely spaced on pics of the food as they came out. Everything we ordered has been pictured before by other yelpers however and I can confirm the pictures do not lie. My aunt had the apple pecan salad it was huge and she said it was perfect! I tried an apple slice with the dressing on it and definitely could see myself ordering if I was in a salad vibe. One kid chose Korean wings. They were juicy, savory and had to have seconds ordered. The other kid chose the bbq wings. The sauce was sweet and flavorful. We shared the Taphouse pizza as well as two orders of fries the og and the yakuza. The pizza was amazing! Crispy edges loaded with their beer cheese. Yes please! Cut in four slices so its just right for a party of four to share. Each slice had just the right portions of cheese, bacon and chicken. The fries though! OhMyGosh they were my favorite hands down. Even loaded with toppings the fries were perfectly crispy. I do think the korean bbq sauce overpowered the beer cheese on the yakuza fries but that didn't stop us from enjoying the whole experience. This is probably one of my favorite pizza places in Omaha. The ambiance is so fun and you can either sit outside or inside. Their service is super fast and they have very good beer options. First time eating here I had been to this spot when it was Dudley's Tavern. I like that you can seat yourself and you just go order at the bar so it's on your own time. We ordered a ton of food and it came out within 10-15 minutes! All for around $50 and had leftovers to take home. We got the garlic parmesan and peanut butter and jelly wings which both were fire, they came out crispy and fresh! Also got the "OG fries" which was boom boom Sauce green onions and pork rinds they were different i liked them but didn't love them. The pizzas were both on point! What a great meal. This was right by my hotel and I liked what I saw on the menu. Was going to go later than what I did, but my stomach wanted food sooner than later. I went in a little before 4 pm. It was me and another couple in there. I decided to sit at the bar and the bartender, at the time was great. She had a good personality and was very helpful. I started off with a Tropical Fun Pants beer. This I really liked. I was expecting more of a bitter beer, but it was truly a fruity wheat beer. I would get a 6 pack of this. I also tried a sample of a few other ones as well. They have close to 20 beers on tap. Heck, maybe more. Now, lets get to the eats. I started off with traditional PBJ wings. Coated in a peanut butter sauce, with a side of a jelly type sauce and ranch. And much to my surprise, the wings were breaded and provided a nice crunch when biting in to them. These were very good. I also got a buffalo chicken pizza. This was excellent, as well. The crust was great. Reminded me of a Pizza Hut Pan Pizza. It had plenty of buffalo sauce and chicken. My only complaint about this would be the bleu cheese sauce. I would have preferred bleu cheese crumbles. But, that's just me. Oh, another bartender took over after the original bartender left. Sorry so late on this review! I wish I could comment on how they are doing during late COVID times, but this review is super overdue. With that said I hope they are surviving during this difficult time b/c c'mon it is really sucking for all restaurants these days but this spot deserves the absolute best! I have never experienced such excellent customer service in my damn life! This owner deserves some kind of award for their attention and response to keeping customers happy. So here's the back story. Awhile ago, we ordered some take out pizzas, yep b/c "Thanks COVID." My mom actually picked it up for me and didn't open the box and brought it right home, and even if she would have opened it up would have had no idea what I ordered. Also we were starving so wanted the Pizzas home ASAP. Anyways sadly when we opened it up at home, it was pretty much the wrong order. We were super bummed and wasn't going to try them again even though so close in the neighborhood, but putting myself in the owner's shoes I would want someone to bring this to my attention, so I decided to contact them and let them know. Without any hesitation the owner was super fast with the response, offered us another gift card for little over the amount we had spent on the first meal to try them again. He put the gift card probably that day in the snail mail and we tried them again and they nailed it! I will say the pizza is smaller than you would think it would come, but its one of those semi deep dish pizzas that are flavorful! Regardless if smaller than usual b/c its ran by such an amazing dude, we definitely love supporting them and hope you do too! read more

REALLY good pizza! Great beer selection too with about 9 local brews. Fun atmosphere, had some outside seating and games like jenga and other games available. Pizza was a deep dish with crispy cheese at the edges. Cadillac pizza had sweet peppers which were super good! Thicker crust was a little oily but not at all unpleasant. I had the Aviation gin drink that was on the happy hour specials and it was delicious. Well made and mixed too. The food was really good. We had the house salad & the Detroit Special pizza with added sausage. The salad was mixed greens & lettuce along with the house citrus vinaigrette. Both items were delicious all at a fair price. One problem did occur with the bartender who was just a dick! I told him we are first timers and he just acted like we were annoying him when we asked him questions. Their menu for food selections also offer a wide array of choices. This last time we hit this place up before going to a movie, which the cinema is right next door. We got a "Taphouse" Detroit style pizza which was pretty decent, but nothing too crazy. Would probably try it again but maybe a different pizza. Popped in here for dinner on a Friday I've been quite curious to try the Detroit Style pizza. I ordered the Uptown and some plain fries with a side of blue cheese and though they are a taphouse with an abundance of beer options I opted for the Old Fashioned. At $9 the cocktail was done very well. The pizza is smaller than I expected which was nice, I didn't feel so bad eating the whole thing. I really enjoyed the doughy airy crust. The goat cheese had nice tang as did the balsamic and the arugula offered a nice balance. The basket of fries was insanely huge! I struggled to finish them and likely shouldn't have but they were too good. I'll be back for sure. Its kind of annoying to order at the counter and I do hope they offer table service in the future. read more

The pizza was really good, the self serve idea was taken a little over the top IMO. You have to scan your smart phone for a menu with no prices, then walk up to the bar to order, pay at the bar, then grab your own drinks, straws from the fountain area, then sit back down and when they bring you your food, you have to figure out for yourself that you need to get up and get your own napkins, utensils, red pepper shakers and Parmesan cheese shakers. Of course they suggest 20%, 25% or 30% tips for this service. The bartender was nice tho. The Xmas lights outside the restaurant made it nicer read more

My friend and I ordered the Yakuza fries (Korean bbq flavors, scallions, beer cheese) and Taphouse pizza (grilled chicken, bacon, green onion, beer cheese sauce). The fries came out very hot and fresh, super crispy and flavorful. The scallions added a freshness to the cheesy sauce. However, as someone who loves Korean bbq, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of Korean flavors that came through in the fries. The beer cheese sauce was the dominant flavor. The Taphouse pizza was very cheesy, and the crust was thick and crispy. The crust was more of a yeasted bread rather than a traditional pizza crust. There was a good portion of meats on the pizza and the sauce to crust ratio was great. Overall, the food was tasty, and I would come back to try some of their other items. read more

Omaha doesn't have another pie like this one. Plus, service is excellent (order from the bar)...updater, they now serve appetizers like several different French fry options, pretzels with beer cheese, wings and more. They also now serve burgers and Philly cheese steak sandwiches. This time we ordered a veggie pizza (still excellent) ($14) and the new chicken Philly(grilled perfectly with peppers and beer cheese sauce on a great roll. $13) Excellent. And it was served with fries and more beer cheese plus a couple beers and a white wine, total about $45 before a $10 tip. That is a very good deal these days. If you're in Aksarben, you can find Backlot next to the new Cold Stone! This location was where Dudley's used to be. When you walk inside Backlot, it's baseball inspire themed. The beer selection is placed like a score board on the wall and you can see what's available and on tap. They have indoor and outdoor seating, long tables for a large group and tall tables for smaller groups and seating at the bar. A group of friends and I had gone for some drinks over the weekend and it was a nice day out for outdoor seating. The only thing is that it does get a little crowded. As for food, in my opinion the fries are delicious and I like that the pizzas are sharable (unless you want a pizza for yourself, then that's cool ). Did I mention they have board games! read more

This is currently my favorite pizza place in Omaha (and maybe anywhere). I'm a big fan of their Detroit styled pizza. We arrived for a late dinner, around 8pm. There weren't too many customers when we arrived. We had never been to this restaurant before, so bartender came over to us and gave us some menus; they told us to order at the bar when we were ready. On the back of the menu, it had some fun FAQs like how to order. You order at the bar but they will bring your food out to you. After your meal, just leave your dishes and they will come to clean it up, but all the ordering is done at the bar. We ordered the Yakuza fries, which has Korean BBQ, beer cheese, green onion, seasoned pork cracklin's. I laughed at this because it says Yakuza fries but then it stated Korean BBQ. Yakuza is Japanese. But back to the food, the fries were FIRE. I just love the texture of beer battered fries. I'm not the biggest fan of BBQ sauce but all the toppings worked well together. For pizza, we ordered the Aksarben Steak and Uptown. The Aksarben Steak had flank steak, smoked cheddar, red onion, creamy steak sauce, while the Uptown had prosciutto, arugula, goat cheese, balsamic reduction. The person who brought out our meal said Uptown was his favorite. I tried both pizzas and Uptown was definitely my favorite out of the two.
