I love this bar! The bartenders are extremely knowledgeable on whiskey. They gave me some recommendations on different rye whiskeys to try. I really enjoyed the entire experience. I will be back!!!

Great place. A little out-of-the-way but if you're in the Benson area it's worth a stop if you're into beers and especially scotch. I also learned here for the first time the magic of half pint glass (critical if you're out on a beer tasting day). The bartenders were helpful and regulars seemed friendly. There was plenty of room - in the afternoon at least - for a group to pull together some tables and enjoy drinks and conversation among friends.

Outstanding professional services. Hey, I sat and bank my beer. No problems. The folks around here seem to be logical and about the drink.. Not the politics. amen to a solid realize from the grind...

Manhattan. The book in the background is their whiskey list. Wowzers!

This is a great bar. Excellent selection of tap beer plus an enormous selection of whiskey. Like bigger than the selection at Dundee Dell. It's pretty glorious. The Library Pub is also clean and plenty spacious. Sit at the bar and chat with the day-drinking regulars and the bartender or grab some buds and spread out at a table. Don't be fooled by the modest exterior. This ain't no dive bar (although they will accommodate your Coors Light needs if necessary). I tried Zip Line's 7-hop IPA and the Duet IPA from Alpine Brewing. Then I finished things off with a Manhattan, rye whiskey and dry. I could've stayed all night, but reason started to kick in once I realized it was only 5:30pm and I had a serious buzz going on. If I lived closer, I'd definitely make this "my bar." But I don't live nearby, so I'll gladly put it in my regular rotation instead.

A dimly lit interior greets you upon entry. The walls are lined with over 250 bottles of Whiskeies. there are like every aged kind you can think of.Lagavulan? which age? Tasty Manhattans (Chris K, looking at you) and generally great cocktails come from the bar. A very bartender was on and he happened to be more of a Stout person whereas I am an IPA guy. 7 hop IPA was a great start. Then I noticed the Monk's Cafe Flemish Red. Seriously one of my all time favorites. Add to the selection of beverages the music, Frank S and pals, good company, and this is a really solid bar.

Over 200 different Scotches. My god!

Incredible place, incredible selection and as far as I am concerned, the best and most complete selection of Scotch anywhere. If you want a $300 shot or a gentle $10 shot, its here. Mark, the owner knows his shit. He is amazing and spends hours with me teaching me about Scotch and the regions everytime I go in. I love this place and if you are a who's who in Omaha, you better make a stop by and say hi to Mark. Tell him Roland sent you and he will hook you up with a little tasting if you are a new client.

Hands down, one of the BEST bars inOmaha! Doesn't look like much from the outside but go in and you'll find a great whiskey selection and amazing beer selection as well. We've been here weeknights and days and it's not crowded- always just people enjoying good drinks and chatting with their friends. This has become our go to bar!

The Council Bluffs 100 Block is the oldest commercial neighborhood in the metro area. Dating back…read moreto 1853, most of the block's buildings celebrated their sesquicentennial a couple of presidents ago. Omaha's first newspaper was printed on this block. This block is older than the invention of cocktails, imagine that. It was pretty rough and full of scoundrels in those halcyon days: journalists, lawyers, land speculators, railroad magnates, Abraham Lincoln. Eventually things improved as saloons, social clubs, gambling halls and bordellos moved in. Today, the 100 Block is to Council Bluffs what Buckhead is to Atlanta and a new whiskey bar called The Barrel is in the middle of it. The Barrel is a swanky, crafty, well-appointed, beautifully decorated, two-story lounge featuring cocktails made according to original recipes with top shelf brands. No mixes, no shortcuts. Every drink is a double just as our shameless forebears intended them. The interior is full of local art including the Barrel sign over the bar. It's well lit with high ceilings reflecting the warmth of the architecture and the staff.     The night I stopped in was moderately busy for a Friday night before 9 p.m. A dozen or so patrons filled the upstairs bar room before wandering downstairs to the more lounge-y Bottom of the Barrel. This is where the bands play and the furnishings swing more to the comfortable side of things. There is a bar here as well, but the craft cocktails were being made upstairs that night. So back upstairs, I asked for a recommendation to show me the takeaway, the thing I should know about The Barrel. Now normally, if a bartender recommends a whiskey sour I assume he thinks I'm in high school or doesn't want a tip, but the gregarious gent behind the bar that night was telling sincere stories, and not just with his beautiful scalp tattoos. The Whiskey Sour was a great place to start. The simple classic has been denigrated for decades by shortcuts and mixes. But this Whiskey Sour is born again hard made with Cody Road Rye, fresh lemon, egg white and love for only $8. Spectacular. And foamy. There is a literal wall of 130 whiskeys at The Barrel Each shelf is higher than the last. Your taste is limited only by your credit. Their Old Fashioned had me at spherical ice, but I intend to return for more classics (Manhattan, Negroni, Tom Collins) or clever originals (Brockway Bulldog, Baltimore Zoo or The Night is Dark and Full of Terror). And there's beer. Exile Beatnik Sour and Lagunitas IPA ($5), Burning Skye Scottish Ale, Lucky Bucket Wide Eye Coffee Stout, Millstream Pale Ale, Brickway Maple Pecan Brown Ale, Empyrean Dark Side Vanilla Porter ($4.50) and Bud Light ($3). There is live music on Fridays and Saturdays, an open jam from 4-8 Sundays followed by an open mic until close, and comedy every second Wednesday. The Bottom of the Barrel has $3 premium wells on weekends and there is never a cover. With drinks like this, it's obvious why our ancestors were so unapologetic about drinking doubles.

The Drover, a review:…read more When you pull into the parking lot the outside of the place appears very unassuming. Once you walk-in, the modest decor gets even more humbling. It's a very old school, western, and rustic type of vibe. There's a sense of rugged individualism, resilience, and Western identity. Cowboys are a big part of the theme here, hence the brand name, The Drover. Various murals of impersonations of these vaqueros plaster the walls. The lounge area gives off old mafia movie feels, as you can picture how it could be filled with clouds of cigar smoke as mafioso Capos & soldiers belly-up to the dark bar sipping on their Scotch. Once the drinks start flowing and you get relaxed then the magic starts! You won't be disappointed in the Old Fashioned, or any other type of cocktail for that matter. The fresh baked bread comes out first with a significant portion of spread butter, which is absolutely delicious! Then you realize, that this place actually still has an old school salad bar. Like as soon as I seen the salad bar with all the fixings and the homemade Thousand Island dressing, I was hooked! Finding an open buffet style salad bar these days is as rare as finding a good woman who cooks and cleans. They're like unicorns. The Drover has several cuts of meat to select from. You honestly can't go wrong with the cut that you choose. They have seafood selections as well, just in case you want to get your Surf 'N Turf on. There's one thing that you can definitely say about this place, and that's the fact that it's a no-frills type of joint. They don't waste any time with any fluff. It's strictly meat & potatoes...literally. You won't find any bartenders here doing stupid bottle tricks and begging for clicks like they do out in Vegas. Instead you'll find Tony, who just keeps the glasses full with the concoctions that you wish to imbibe on. One of the female bartenders would fit right in at home in NYC as she drops an F-bomb or two. But, I'm no Karen, so I welcome the realness. She stated, "it's so fucking hot in here", as the bar fills up and the workers get slammed! Now onto the main course: I went with the 8oz Filet and the loaded baked potato. It was delicious! Simple, tasty, and loaded with flavor. They're famous for their secret "whiskey marinade" recipe. The baked potato comes out still wrapped in its foil, which will bring back memories of when your dad would cook them on an open flame charcoal grill. Did I mention the butter? I think I ate enough butter to kill a baby cow! And, I still couldn't get enough. Overall, this place is the epitome of Midwest Steakhouses. It gets right to the point and its customers will appreciate that! One guest told the bartender that he's not from Omaha, but every time he comes into town he comes directly to The Drover to eat dinner. He stated, "I've been coming here for 28 years". Later adding, "except for the years it was burnt down". Another female bartender quickly corrected him, "it was only shutdown for 9 months". Well, when your favorite restaurant is closed for any amount of time, "it felt like years", I added, as we all got a good laugh. As one old timer who came to sit at the bar said, "this is our favorite place". Well...old cowboy, I can see why. And, just like any Old Western movie, The Drover packs a serious punch. Pro tip: they open for dinner at 5:00pm, so get here early, unless you have Reservations of course. I got there at 4:55pm, no reservation, sat at the open bar, which is first come first serve and by 5:40 the place was packed! And, this was on a Wednesday.
