Never get your order made by the owner/ceo. This guy gave me crumbs for the oats on my expensive açaí bowl. He literally counted the amount of oats to put on my HUGE regular size açaí bowl. I had literally 2-3 bites that had some scrapes of oats in it. If him not giving me the correct and I would say a decent amount of oats for my huge portion size i purchased is what puts them out of business then it was never going to make it. A great little gem of a place in Beverly Fairfax area! Lots of cute decorations inside, dog friendly, and lots of people stopping by in workout clothes pre or post workout for a recharge :) We got the berry bowl regular size and were happily delighted when they served it in a real bowl when eating in as opposed to take out. You can watch them blend and organize the bowls efficiently and we only had to wait a few minutes for ours. The portion was quite large and fed 2 well for a decent price ($13)! read more

This review is for MANY issues I've now had with Backyard bowls. The first being when I arrived on a Thursday at 4pm and drove across the city to get an acai bowl, the location was closed. Calling doesn't work as it's automated. Checked Instagram. Nothing. Checked their website. Nothing. And now for the THIRD time, my order arrived completely melted. Even frozen yogurt locations provide an ice bag or some sort of insulation to prevent cold items not to melt but not Backyard Bowls! They send it in a paper "bowl" and in a paper bag. Perfect for melting your acai bowl on its 40 min journey (with multiple stops even though I selected priority). And while Postmates of course refuses to take responsibility- IN THE LEAST, AN INSULATED BAG WOULD HELP. You charge 20 dollars for acai and can't work this out? It's summer in LA. SURELY the owner or the GM can put together 3 brain cells to work this out. ** After posting this review and scrolling through all the reviews it looks like quality and service has RAPIDLY declined. While I like Backyard Bowls and WOULD HOPE MELISSA would do something about this, there are plenty of other acai bowl places that care and have better service. Take your money somewhere else. I didn't have the time to wait last time so I asked them to send a refund because I didn't have the time to wait around for the order they had not prepared. Poor service. My sister and I walked up and there was one person in front of us ready to order. However we decide to grab the menu that was on the stand outside to look at the menu. (I assume that's what the restaurant wants because they are intentionally placed there) Before we get to the door the host/server stops taking the persons order in front of us to tell us to put the menu back outside because there's one at the counter/register and he doesn't have to put them all back. The problem I have with this is, his focus should be on serving the actual customer who is before him, NOT worry about people walking up. To me this is pure laziness. If you hate your job just say that but ruining our day with a poor interaction makes you and this establishment poor. I will never eat here again if this is how they run shop. My go to spot for smoothies and acai bowls! And I keep coming back here for good reason. Their ingredients are healthy, delicious, and fresh. I started going to the shop in Santa Barbara since my college friends and I were obsessed with it. But moving to LA it was hard to find not mega chains that served the same thing. That's why when moving to West LA I was so happy to see they have one in Mid City and one in Santa Monica. The sizes have always been a little too big for me so I always order the Island Bowl (kids size) sub strawberry for extra banana and no coconut flakes. They're always super attentive and kind to help me with any questions I had. I have been a regular at Backyard Bowls for years and will keep going back here. Only thing is parking is extremely hard to find since there is no dedicated parking lot so I did have to drive around for a bit for street parking. I ordered the blueberry fields, my husband had the super green smoothie and our friend had the golden lion. The first thing we notified when we got our drinks was how beautiful the colors were. They looked so fresh and bright. All the smoothies were so well blended, not one chunk in sight! Everything tastes super fresh, and you can see them making your bowl in the little soundproof room where they blend everything so the store isn't too loud. There's a lot of seating inside and a few tables outside. We saw a lot of people also getting their bowls to go.
