This place even beats Jungle Jim's as far as pepper species go. Habanero, jalepeno, and banana as well as sweet peppers in every color of the rainbow, all can be bought here. Heirloom tomatoes, zucchini, and eggplant are also available in varieties that aren't sold in most grocery stores. In addition to the fresh fruit and produce, a number of specialty vendors sell homemade pies, cakes, bread, salsa, jams, preserves, and pickles. Fresh potted herbs such as oregano, parsley, dill, sage, rosemary, and cilantro are often available for less than $3. We first discovered Hampton Ridge Farm at the Covington Farmers Market last summer. They're one of…read morethe regular vendors - and we purchased some of their infamous Cottage Bacon, and a dozen farm fresh eggs. My fiancé also picked up some of their pamphlets, and had been carrying around the idea that we should buy all of our meat directly from the farm ever since. He'd brought it up a few times, but finally let me know a few weeks ago that he'd placed an order for chicken, pork, and beef, and that we'd be picking it up on the farm from a man named Earl. At first, I was skeptical about visiting the farm. I am so on board with sustainable, organic, local farming, but I didn't exactly want to see "how the sausage gets made" ... literally. My fiancé assured me that we didn't have to see any of the actual animals, and that he just wanted to check out the space and meet the farmer. I hesitantly agreed, and I'm so glad I did. The farm is down in Glencoe, Kentucky ... probably 50 minutes outside of Cincy city limits. We set up a pick-up time, and were welcomed to the farm by a few sheep crossing the road in front of us (I don't eat lamb all that often, so I didn't mind seeing these particular animals). We were then officially greeted by Earl, who is probably the most down-to-earth and inventive man I've ever met. Earl gave us a small tour of the farm, explaining his resourceful processes, and how he keeps the animals cared for in different seasons. I was also grateful to know that he doesn't do any of the "processing" on site: that's handled by a middleman, who then returns the meat back to Earl to sell online and at the Farmers Market. Unfortunately, Earl explained he had just given all of his cows to his daughter and son-in-law for them to start their own farm, so he was fresh out of beef products. He did, however, stock us up on all sorts of chicken, pork sausage, chorizo, pork chops, and two dozen eggs. All of his products come frozen, and we brought an insulated bag with us for easy transport back to our home. While his prices are a little more than what you'd pay at the grocery store, you have to consider the quality and care you're paying for. Most people have no idea where their meat comes from ... even if it's organic. Even though I didn't want to actually see the animals, it's a remarkable feeling to know we're supporting a local farmer. And of course ... the proof is in the taste. Earl encouraged us to compare a store-bought chicken breast side-by-side with one from Hampton Ridge - and there's definitely a clear winner. If you're not looking to take a farm tour, don't worry, you don't have to! Visit their website and place an order for pick-up at the Covington Farmers Market. It's between the Fairfield Arts Center and the library. The market runs on Wednesdays from May 14th to September 24 in 2025. I think the overall word I would use to describe this market is quaint, lol. When I first drove by I got excited because both sides of the park had lots of stands up. I was excited to see what kind of variety the market had to offer. I parked in the library parking lot, not sure if that was allowed. I'm not sure where the intended parking for this event is. Unfortunately as I drew closer, I realized that all of the stands on the right side were run by kids, and they were all selling lemonade or sweets, or trinkets they (or their parents lol) had created. Later I saw a sign that it was actually a kids farmers market. This is very cute, but it's not what I expect when I think of a farmers market and it was a bit of a bummer for me. Call me a hater. It's great that kids are learning about entrepreneurship or whatever. On the other side of the park, there were more stands, but not very many. Less than 10. There was a bakery stand, Pickled Paradise was there (probably the biggest brand present), a honey stand and maybe a couple of others. There was one entire stand selling produce. One. I am happy that Fairfield offers a farmers market and I would love to support it and the local businesses that show up, but I really hope they are able to attract more vendors, especially with fresh produce. I think food trucks would really help draw more people to this as well. We have almost 50,000 people living in Fairfield - we should have a farmers market more representative of a population this size. All the doors to the barn were open, and I was absolutely delighted with the crowd, the market, the bar, and the food truck. The view out the back isn't bad, either. We enjoyed a cocktail - bourbon and fresh made lemonade - chicken tacos, and the biscuits and gravy. Afterall, we were there for the Sunday Biscuits and Bluegrass open event! Great restaurants and shops in and near Findlay Market, Cincinnati!…read more We had a free day while visiting relatives, and any day is fun at Findlay Market in the mid-north of the OTR (Over The Rhine) area of Cincinnati! (Well, not Mondays when they are closed :-). Parking isnt free, but it's not too expensive, and we had no problem finding a space in the North Parking Lot between Findlay Street and the market. We came in through a covered outdoor walkway, with a few vendors and with clever sayings along the sides. Then a cute photo-op with a cartoon Reds statue. Then the market stretching left and right, full of fresh produce, meats and cheese, and ready-to-eat foods of all kinds. On our first walkthrough we just scanned left and right to see some of what's there. It was busy, but not uncomfortably crowded. Out the south door of the market onto Elder Street, there's several murals, and more shops and restaurants. We always stop in at Maverick Chocolate Co. for a few yummy samples from so many flavors. They used to make the chocolate here, and now it's made just across the river in KY, where you can still get tours and probably samples :-). We sampled around six varieties! And decided on four. But it was a hot day, so we decided to circle back later for our purchases. The staff was welcoming, and maybe they didn't really know that we would return, but they were still just as kind as can be :-). We walked west to Elm Street to the stop for the free Connector streetcar, just to take a little ride around town, partly to see some of the hundreds of murals around town! And we got off again, later, at the same stop. Right there at the west end of the Market building there's an outdoor bar and patio. I, myself, was ready for a little refreshment, and they poured me a delicious local bourbon cocktail, while others of us had local craft beers. We found shaded seating among probably 20 or more round red metal tables, with chairs that were really raucous when moved! The seats fill and empty in fits and spurts, and there"s a handful of backless stools at the bar, so if you wait a little, you'll find a place to sit. We dove back into the market for some freshly-made pierogis, and a to nearby bbq, too. And afterwards, we circled back to Maverick for delicious fresh-made artisanal chocolate :-). Yum, yum, and more yum! We saw so many places we want to return to! Findlay Market has everything! I'll post a very few of so many photos that we took of a full, fun day. It's a nice area to walk around, shop, eat, and drink. And it's a great spot to catch the Connector streetcar to get around OTR and downtown Cincinnati, to within a-few-minutes-walk of the porch-swings overlooking the Ohio River near the ballpark :-)
