I visited DoDo's Chicken on Wednesday, 6/11 around 4:45 PM, excited to get the chicken and sides…read morethat I usually love. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing for several reasons. First, I noticed that the staff handling food behind the counter were not wearing gloves. Hygiene is important, especially when preparing and serving food, and it was concerning that no one appeared to be following proper food safety practices. At that time, the rotisserie was already being cleaned, which told me they had stopped preparing fresh chicken for the day. Instead, they were serving pre-cooked chicken kept in a warmer. As expected, this made the chicken dry and hard on the outside. I ordered the 1/2 dark meat chicken with yellow rice and Tequeños. However, I was given two small leg quarters and an extra piece of white meat--which I didn't ask for--all of which were extremely dry. The portion size has noticeably decreased as well. I was also very concerned to see them using spray cleaner near the food, which poses a risk of chemical contamination. On top of that, the Tequeños were extremely dark and tasted like they had been refried, nearly burnt. Adding to the poor experience, one of the girls behind the counter was playing around and massaging her coworkers while customers were being served. That level of unprofessional behavior is not something anyone wants to see while waiting for their food. I've always liked this place for its fresh rotisserie chicken, but it feels like DoDo's has started cutting corners on both food quality and cleanliness. Paying $19.52 for this meal just didn't feel worth it.

Despite having my contact information, they provided no courtesy call or cancellation notice. To make matters worse, the employee was incredibly rude and disrespectful, telling me it "wasn't his problem" and that I had to come back the next day for a refund. Save your time and money--go somewhere that actually values its customers.

A big key to their success has been staying open late every day of the week, till as late as 4AM on the weekends. They pride themselves on being among the best tacos in Houston (#1) and love to showcase their chilango pride. To find them, just look for the blue truck in the Route 66 gas station parking lot along Westheimer. It's easy to miss for first timers, especially since they're not the only taqueria on wheels in the vicinity. Usually there are folks huddled around the truck during lunch time but the crowd tends to dwindle after 11pm. The waits are minimal and the staff is bilingual and friendly. While the $1.50 tacos sound like a deal, they're actually the smaller, two bite taquito (#2) versions instead. I don't mind them, even though they can be had for a $1 just further down the road. Of course they serve more than just tacos, there are sincronizadas, gorditas, burritos, quesadillas, and even hamburgers. Their claim to fame are their tortas, but it should be noted that they also sell machetes as well. The fajita meat is tasty. They've got one of the better variations that I've had along this stretch in west Houston and I would say the same for their campechano. Chicharron is also solid, as is their tripe. Their chicken and barbacoa is decent, but a slight departure from the rest of their meat lineup. I am fairly certain it's cash only. There is no outdoor seating and most everyone is doing takeout. I say order a handful of taquitos, order a Mexican soda, and enjoy it nice and hot from the car. ___________ (#1) Per their truck: "Los mejores tacos de Houston") (#2) Or a mini taco.

It's funny…read morebecause when I usually look at videos it's for the food and I will check them out, but for this one I came for the person...the owner. I'm super glad I did because the food was good, but the owner... the person was better. We had a great conversation while I was eating that I will remember going forward. Very personable! He was taking orders and gave me some great recommendations based on my needs and being a first timer. Customer service was outstanding. I ordered the Boss Hog that comes with: Philly Egg Roll w/ sweet and sour sauce 9/10 Fries 9/10 5 Chicken Wings w/ ranch (24k Gold*Carolina BBQ) 9/10 Detroit Coney Dog 8/10 Everything was literally on point! I don't even need to explain, I already knew. The Coney Dog took me back to my time when I was in Detroit! The vibe inside the store made me feel like I was back in the Bay Area. It's hard to explain you just have to experience it. But a very "down to earth" atmosphere. Lots of people inside laughing, eating and just having great conversation. Come slide to Midwest Coney Connection and yes owner from the Midwest and you yes will get a coney if you order one, but most of all you'll feel the connection, which is what's it's all about!

One of the outstanding things about Midwest Coney Connection is the service. The employees are super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel at home. I mentioned that I was a Michigoose transplant and had a lovely conversation about the coney dogs and reminisced about the differences between michigan and texas. I can't say enough good things about the food. It's classic Detroit style coneys and really fantastic. They don't skimp on the coney sauce. The Texas Frito Pie is addictive and everything was just YUM! I highly recommend Midwest Coney Connection. The food is excellent and the employees are friendly.

What a great place to pick up a crispy fish bowl or a huge fish burrito…read more Not sure how they do it, but their food is so fresh and delicious. Went for a date night with my husband. So crowded that we took our orders to go, but it was nice to be able to order a custom burrito and crispy fish bowl with the works. Choose your meal. Burrito, tacos or a bowl. Then choose your tortilla and fill it up with your choice of protein, hot veggies, cold veggies, beans, rice and sauces. The crispy fish are so good, so that is always my protein for my crispy fish bowl. My husband opts for the burritos. Add white or brown rice and black beans. Then add the hot veggies. Sautéed onions. Sautéed poblanos. Zucchini and squash. Yum! Next add cold toppings. Lettuce. Pico. Cheese. Cilantro. Guacamole. Salsa. Mango pico. Then top it with sauce. Chipotle crema. Ancho rancho. Fresh limes. Maybe add some extra sauce, just in case. Grab a bag of chips with guacamole and more salsa. So addictive. Used the extra chips in a homemade tortilla soup. So good! Or just order a bowl or burrito for your latest lunchtime meeting. They deliver on DoorDash! You won't regret it!!

I didn't just try Cabo Bob's... I accidentally started a short-term relationship with it…read more My pal brought a burrito home last Tuesday, and somehow I've been back three times in four days. That should tell you everything you need to know. First off, the tortilla game here is next level. You're not stuck with basic flour--you're choosing your vibe: Cilantro Tomatillo (Green) Ancho Chili (Red) Smoky Cheddar (Orange) Buttermilk Flour (White) That alone sets them apart. My kid and I both locked in on the #6 Brisket & Queso Burrito ($10.99). It cones with an Ancho Chili tortilla, loaded with brisket, brown rice, pinto beans, sautéed onions & peppers, queso, lettuce, cilantro, and that 66 Red sauce. Let me say this clearly: This burrito is massive--and they don't skimp. Every bite hit. The brisket was flavorful, the queso tied everything together, and the tortilla had its own personality, instead of just being a wrapper. I told myself I'd save half for later... yeah, that didn't happen. My taste buds vetoed that plan real quick! We also grabbed chips and salsa and a couple fountain drinks. The chips? Fresh-cut and fried--no bag nonsense. Shoutout to the Dr. Baja, which tastes like a cherry Dr Pepper with a little extra attitude. And the red salsa? Fresh and actually worth going back for by itself. Matter of fact, I came back today just for chips and salsa. At this point... I might be back tomorrow. Bottom line: Cabo Bob's isn't just a quick bite spot--it's one of those places that sneaks into your weekly rotation before you even realize it.
