I went for a simple cut and blow dry. Vanessa was nice and did an okay job. The cut looked good the day of but it didn't grow out well at all. The layers are just not quite right. I would say I don't see the value for how much they asked - $85 was way too high for this. Aside from the price, the lady at the front desk who did scheduling and took payment is the main reason I would not go back - or recommend this place. She was not only unprofessional- she was downright rude. I would have given 2 or 3 stars but am lowering it to 1 mainly because of her lack of professionalism. read more

This used to be a great place. I have been going here for 10 years and sent well over 50 people as referral.but in the past 2 years it has become a true disappointment. All of their best hair stylist have left. New people do not know how to cut south asian hair. They have managed to ruin the hair of not 1 or 2 but 6 cli nts I sent their way. price has gone up significantly. $95 for a mid length haircut with only wash and no style. SOME stylist are also rude! If you LOVE your hair, make sure to let them know exactly what you want each step of the way. They no longer have the brightest lot of stylist there. read more

I started coming here with the plan to eventually get Japanese straightening. I couldn't right away because I was pregnant. Back in October, I came here to get my hair dyed but she dyed it the wrong color -it was much too dark. In an effort to fix it, I came back and she added highlights. Fast forward to today, 8 months later, and I go in for the straightening. She tells me she can't do it because the highlights damaged my hair too much. I told her she is the one who gave me the highlights, knowing I eventually needed the Japanese straightening. Again, she only gave me the highlights because she messed up the dye job. I moved to PA years ago, but fearful for trying someone new, continued to travel to NYC to my hairdresser of many years. But with a special event imminent, and no time to get on a train, I chanced it on the reviews of fellow yelpers and tried BHD. I called a week prior and got the appointment I wanted on a Sunday morning. I saw Kim. She artfully re-colored my box-dyed, multi-colored locks into a warm and natural, not goth black, dark brown.  She proceeded to cut my hair, taking time to ask me my style preferences, length preferences, understand what I liked and didn't like and care for the face framing to reduce facial features I was concerned about.  After 2 hours, I left like a million bucks! Open layout of the salon feels good but the hair cut was subpar to say the least. The crown area was not trimmed for volume and left to stand out which I noticed later. Most salons tend to follow crew cut for men with shorter sides and this one followed suit. The place was not sanitized especially during COVID times where I could find tuft of hair on the dresser table. The reviews gave a positive spin and was misled. read more

Im not picky and was in a rush to get a quick trim before my headshots this week. Tried this salon since it was close my office. The staff seemed friendly but I felt rushed. I don't even think my stylist told me her name. I noticed that before my hair cut even began, there was hair everywhere! I didn't have anywhere to put my purse down so I put it in an unused chair next to me as advised. I came back from shampooing and someone had laid a used cape on top of my nice purse. Upon further inspection, the scissors and blades had the previous haircut all over them and all over the station counter and floor. Gross. This should have been enough to make me get up and leave. I can't believe I just paid $48 plus tip for an uneven trim and blow dry (which was included and non negotiable). No new client discounts available even upon request. I was offered a mini travel shampoo instead ("which they give to clients anyways"). Nice gesture. Bad delivery. Next time I'll speak up more clearly when I feel dissatisfied with the service. I made an appointment for curls here because of the good reviews and flexible hours. Not a lot of salons are open Sunday so this place was a great option for me as my engagement photos had to be scheduled for a Sunday. Casey was my hairstylist. She was professional, sweet, and easy to talk to. She did a really nice job on my hair and even offered to pin some of my curls up if I wanted. I was not happy with the attitude of the owner. I showed her my hair. She said these are long hair so she would charge me $90. But when she started to work, she started to complain alot about my hair that they are very fuzzyy and long. It's taking more than an hour. I will charge $100. She finished it in an hour, didn't curl the hair the way I wanted. And the curl started to loosen up after 2 hours although I have naturally curly hair. They also messed up my daughter style. Her brad was rough, not neat, and her curls began to straighten up the moment we got in the car. I didn't feel comfortable in the salon. The environment is not friendly. read more

I was basically a walk in- I called before hand but got in the same day. I LOVE MY HAIR!!! Not only did all of the reviews about Kim ring true, she was even better than expected! It was more than I would normally pay for getting my hair done but she did a LOT of work to lighten & then add the vibrant color to my hair. Well I didn't think spending 3 hours in a salon could be so satisfying. I was able to call last minute and get myself in for a partial highlight. Upon arrival it became apparent I need a full highlight and that wasn't even a problem to manage the time. Casey was able to highlight my hair tone my hair and have me out of there within under three hours. I wouldn't have traded this experience for any other salon. I asked for a layer cut and the hair cut was looking good till I come out of the salon, as soon as I reached home and comb my hair it was just a normal cut with no layers which I could have done at home and saved $50+ , I wish I could get my hair back to get the better cut :(. Moved to PA in May, and have been tying to find a place to get my hair cut. I was a Great Clips customer for 5 years while I lived in MN. I found a Great Clips near where I moved, but after the first attempt of getting my hair cut there i decided to wouldn't take my dogs to that location. I found Bad Hair day by accident while google-ing, and glad i did. I called, and got an appointment for 11 am, but showed up at 10:30, and they took me right away. I made an appointment to get an updo on Sunday morning and realized that I needed to get in earlier than their normal hours. They were happy to open up the shop early for me so I could make it to my wedding in time. Kim was fantastic. She listened to what I wanted, saw a few inspiration pieces from one of their books, and went to work to give me exactly what I wanted. It admittedly took a bit of time (75 minutes), but that included washing, blow drying it out, and curling all of the pieces. My hair looked absolutely awesome. My friend (whose wedding I was attending) kept commenting on how great it looked, in fact she took photos to show her stylist. I can't judge the other services, but I'd definitely suggest coming in for an updo. read more

Great local salon. I was in the area for a wedding and called at 9am to see if they could take me same-day and it wasn't an issue at all. Jenna, my stylist, was awesome and let me read every bottle before using it because I have allergies to certain ingredients. I had my hair blown out and then curled, but unfortunately my hair was straight by the time I got back to the hotel. I think she may have just used the wrong product for my hair type, but she was super sweet. FYI they charge you an extra $10 to use a curling iron, and another $10 on top of that if you have extra long hair. Nice clean place though, and super helpful in a pinch! read more

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I made appointment for haircut and relax for late in the day on Sunday. I had been given prices after describing what I wanted on the phone. Upon my arrival, I was told not only that the service would cost more than 50% of what I had been quoted, but I was told that they would not have time to accommodate me due to their assumption that I would just need a "touch up." I am 40 years old and have been getting my hair relaxed since I was 18 and have never experienced a partial relaxing, and even If I did this should have been clarified on the phone. Came here for my first hair cut since having a baby five months ago. If you are looking for a sterile place to be pampered, this is not it. I don't even know the name of the woman that cut my hair because she never introduced herself. The pros were that it was cheap and I was able to make an appointment for that day. She washed my hair in a sink that still had tufts of someone else's hair in it. My hair cut is totally uneven and now I will have to go somewhere else to get it fixed. I have traveled the world and am accustomed to the very best when it comes to great hair salons whether in Washington DC, NYC, Paris, etc. I have recently moved to the area for my work and like many, when researching a great hair salon, it can be daunting to find the perfect one that won't break your budget or take an entire day to get in and out of. I have even resorted to doing to my hair color ( brown, blond and in between) and so I've come to know a few things regarding quality hair color. Based on the reviews of this salon, I gave them a try. And boy am I THRILLED I did! I hadn't had a good cut or color ( I want only Wella color, the gold standard of hair color really for brunettes especially if seeking depth or dimension to your brown without brass) Many salons water down their color using cheap processing or skimping on the peroxide. I also find it important that a salon can give a great hair cut, and not just foils or color. I walked in on an August Saturday morning at 9 am to a clean and quiet salon right off highway 202. I spoke with Kim who was the sweetest and easiest person to talk to. She knows her stuff without it seeming assuming or pushy in the slightest. We did root touch up end after some light foils and balayage to give dimension followed with quick toner at the end. Her hair cut really cleaned up my ends and kept with my requested goal to not over layer my hair as I had future longer hair length goals. She listened. She did a great blow dry and offered a full rotating look at end. I was completely satisfied with the entire color and cut. The salon's atmosphere was laid back and warm, quiet and clean. Just my speed. The price for color, highlight partials, cut and blow dry was $170. I find this extremely fair in many salons charge triple sometimes that. My ONLY complaint is that they are not using Olaplex ( yet) we spoke about how I find that important whenever you want to safeguard the quality of your color and hair when lifting it. You could probably order olaplex number 3 on Amazon and bring it and she'd probably use it if you asked. It's my cAnt love without product seeing how much I put my own fine fair through. One random night a few months ago, I suddenly got a "let's chop off all of my hair" mood, and of course wanted it to be done immediately. So, since my regular hair dresser wouldn't be available till the following week, and I am impatient, I decided to look up hair salons near me. That is when I stumbled upon Bad Hair Day. I made my appointment for the next day, and when I entered the salon, I was the only person there. That actually ended up being very nice because I didn't feel like my hairdresser was rushed to get me in and out. And to be honest, she did a great job, I was very happy with the results. I think it's a great place to go to if you want, or need, a haircut within the next day. I don't think I'd visit again, unless it was another "let's chop off my hair" idea. The only downside I experienced was the woman not introducing herself, because I do not remember her name at all, which I saw another reviewer said as well. I went to my normal place and they were closed due to air conditioning issues so I looked on yelp to see where I could go for a good cut. Bad hair day popped up and I saw the great reviews so I took a chance. First of all, Kim is an absolute doll. Very sweet and funny. She made me feel at ease within seconds. She is quick and efficient and listened to what I wanted for a new cut and style, she even made some suggestions which were spot-on and got busy. I love the cut and style and will be back for sure! If you're nervous about hair cuts (we've all had terrible ones that cause a mild panic attack when you need a trim or a style change) go here! Really sad to write this review, but my last visit was such a disappointment and added cost to me that I felt it was justified. I have been going to this salon / stylist Anna for well over a year; maybe even two years? She typically did really thorough and high-quality work and her rates are very reasonable. I get blonde base color and highlights and have super fine hair, especially in front. She accommodated me by doing this in two separate steps vs. a combined base/highlight in one step which never works on my hair. The base color always seemed to bleed into the tinfoil packets and then my highlights don't extend to the scalp, looking like two-week growth when I just had my hair done. Anyway, she did great work doing thin highlights and blending my base color and highlights really well using this two-step process. Then my last visit went completely haywire. I don't know if she was just having a bad day or what ... she certainly spent a lot of time talking about family problems so maybe her focus was off. I don't know, but it was a really disappointing experience. (Also, I was leaving in three days to Europe for three weeks and didn't want to be traveling around looking like Donald Trump's colorist did my hair). This visit, she did really thick chunky highlights that created distinct stripes with my highlights. The layered haircut she gave me made matters even worse. The now much-darker base color stuck out 1-2 inches below my heavily highlighted hair. I went back that night to have her fix it. I asked her if she could use toner to lesson the brassiness. She said no. She broke up the big chunky highlights with more highlights to remove the noticeable stripes, but it didn't really fix the overall color. The highlights were now like a solid color sitting on top of my base color because they were so heavily applied. And now it looked even more brassy. She also noticed the layered haircut caused my base color to poke out the bottom about 1-2 inches below my layered (much lighter) highlights. My hair looked two-toned - a solid brassy blond on top and a solid darker ash blonde on bottom. She suggested I get my whole head highlighted to fix the problem (I've always gotten partial highlights). No way! I think she could have easily fixed everything with a toner and a better cut, which is exactly what I did. Luckily, I was able to get into another salon the next day and two days before my trip. This stylist was willing to tone down my brassy hot mess. She also recut my hair using scissors vs. the razor that Anna uses... razors don't work well on thin straight hair ... it just looks ragged and choppy vs. well-blended. The new cut also removed the 1-2 inches of base color that stuck out from the layered highlights. For twice the cost, I was able to look like a normal human being (vs. orange top) on my trip abroad. Honestly, the entire situation my last visit caused a lot of time, energy and cost. So while I had a good run at Bad Hair Day with Anna, I feel her lack of consistency and quality are something to consider. I also wasn't happy with the $300+ keratin treatment I received here. I have gotten these many times over the years out-of-state / different salons and my hair was always left silky and smooth and soft. That was not the case at Bad Hair Day. After I washed my hair the first time it felt damaged and dry. I had broken and damaged hair at the root. It didn't even feel like I had gotten the treatment. I would also say that my husband and son received two of the best haircuts they've ever had from Sarah at this salon (Anna's sister). Then, the next visit they had with her it was also a disappointment. Again, consistency is the issue. They have the talent, but maybe not always the focus. I hope this feedback will renew the importance on taking care of existing clients and appreciating their business by remaining detailed and focused on quality work. I have been going to Bad Hair Day for over two years now and cannot speak more highly of a hair salon. I have tried pricey main line salons, but I always walked out feeling like my hair was butchered. Every time I walk out of Bad Hair Day I'm extremely happy with the result. All of the stylists I have had thus far (I'm the kind of person who will really just take an appointment with anyone available) have done a fantastic job listening to what I want, and truly implementing on my head.
