A wonderful coffee shop that's tucked away in the heart of downtown Saint Pete. The coffee is served quickly and there is a large variety with many unique options available. Each season they even have an original Matcha latte that varies from sweet strawberry to more unique butterfly pea. The place has a wonderful ambience, which is quite relaxing for reading or getting work done and has plenty of room to both work on tables and couches and other seats available to sit down more comfortably. This was a great working space and my matcha was very good. I got the strawberry cloud matcha. Not sure if the volume was worth the value, but that's like every nice cafe these days. Note: The wifi only lasts an hour unfortunately and after that it is paid but I could see why people would maybe want to do that. Music was cool, staff were friendly and it was a cool vibe. This place has a much different vibe than your typical coffee shop. It's definitely more of a professional place, with lots of people doing work and some coworking offices. The lighting is very dark, which is great if you're working on a laptop but not as much if you want to read. The service was quick and baristas clearly know their coffee! I am someone who likes a sweet and fun flavored coffee, and I believe what they do best is specializing in the espresso and coffee itself. Since the space is so open, they do protect their wifi, understandably so, so you get a code for a few hours with a purchase. Bad Mother is located inside Station House in what seems to be the heart of St. Pete. We were at the James Museum nearby and needed a little pick-me-up before an event so we decided to grab some caffeine from Bad Mother. Only a super short walk away, we were greeted with air conditioning and such a lovely coworking space after trekking for only 5 minutes in the heat (it seemed a lot longer when adding humidity!). The service was super friendly and helpful. We ended up getting a few orders including some matcha, black tea, and an iced cortado to-go. I specifically got the Summer Drink which was a blueberry butterfly matcha and it was SO GOOD. Usually when people do butterfly anything, it lacks flavor, but here, adding the blueberry was such a great move. A perfect summer drink. Everything was superb and the best fuel for us to continue working into the evening! If I'm ever in the area again, I'd love to get some work done here as the atmosphere was great and the drinks were amazing. 5 Stars for obviously a fabulous vibe for hanging out, but also coffee, matcha, and cookies that made my heart happy. Went for a coffee run and regretted not bringing my laptop because you will want to post up here and get to work. It's a spectacular vibe (it's literally located in a coworking space, but you don't have to pay to sit at the coffee shop section- just be cool and order drinks and some pastries). We ordered some iced cortados and iced matcha to-go (thankful for the cardboard carrying thing for the walk back to "the office"). Last time I was in town, I also got their brown butter chocolate chunk cookie and was devastated that they were not in stock this time, but if you see these cookies: BUY MANY OF THEM. Haven't left a review in awhile but this place is a MUST STOP for POUROVER Lovers. Came down to the Tampa area for a concert and looked through Reddit for suggested coffee locations. Found a review on the pourover page about the serene vibes and atmosphere. For our first visit I decided to order a geisha coffee and had a good chat about brewing techniques with 2 of the baristas. You can tell that the baristas are glad to talk coffee and love interacting with passionate customers. They provided a local geisha pourover and it came with a ceramic glass, tonic water, and carafe that poured 2 small glasses. There was a card that provided details about the brew. On the second visit I ran into the owner and he shared some additional tips about grind settings and ideas to improve clarity. I splurged and got the Lady in Red by Dak Roasters from Amsterdam. I've brewed Milky Cake in the past but this cup was surprisingly punchy of cherry and a clean finish. The tonic water helped cleanse the palate between drink breaks. Chris provided his contact info and was willing to answer any further questions if needed. Even shared that they might be doing a monthly subscription in the future for affetionato's that use their same set up: zp6 grinder, fellow gooseneck kettle, and orgami/switch. I urge anyone that is a pourover amateur to visit this location. The cupping and atmosphere are worth it. Will definitely be back. read more

Located inside Station House (used to be a public coworking space but now you only get 1 hr WiFi unless you're a member). Bad mother is good! I got caramel apple latte (iced) and it was refreshing. I didn't get a big caramel flavor but I really liked it. We got the chicken sausage pepper quiche heated up and it was great. However, there is free WiFi for only an hour or you buy a day pass or buy a coffee and get a voucher for 2 hours. So "free" WiFi comes with a limit. And 2 hours is nothing when the internet goes down every 5 minutes, or so it seems. I've been here 30 minutes and have been disconnected 4 times already. Also, if you're here to work, there are only 2 outlets that I can see, so that's unhelpful. Great place to sit and chill. Not so much to work if you need power and consistent WiFi. read more

The aesthetics of this place were impeccable, meeting friends or studying, this place got you covered with their super comfy seating and amazing playlists. The atmosphere pales in comparison to the coffee. The craft and care the bros put into their coffee is evident, I have yet to have a better cup of coffee in Florida. I got a drip coffee, which was reasonably priced for how amazing it was, and then got a refill (they do those here) and it was a different coffee that managed to somehow be even better! What an amazing location. Appears that the building used to be a former bank in downtown. You can still see the safe with the safety deposit boxes. Such cool history in this building. 5 stars for the amazing matcha spirulina coco cloud, wow, soooo unique and good! But omg I waited over 25 minutes for my drink, like that is how long the baristo took to make it as I painfully watched. When I got there there was a long line and one barista so I knew it would be a wait and that was totally fine because she was cranking drinks out like a badass and I had hyped myself up for a good matcha. By the time I ordered, a second barista stepped in so I got excited that the drinks might go faster...and then he started making mine and time slowed down as he moved like molasses through Every. Single. Step. At that point a third barista came in and helped work through the line while this baristo continued to work on my matcha as well as the one belonging to another patron next to me. Even the other two baristas kept glancing at him to see what was going on. We watched very confused as he finished the drinks but then started making more matcha instead of putting them out for us. We finally went over to take them off his hands and he said he realized he made them with the wrong cold foam and was starting over. I appreciate the desire to get them right but the wait was shockingly long, like almost more of a hindrance than a help to their business, frankly. Again, the drink was amazing but like reviewers have said, this place is busy and definitely not the spot for a pop in, pop out drink. Frankly, the best use of a visit here is a couple hours of remote work or book reading because there is very little cell service, the atmosphere has enough of a vibe to make you want to stay a while (the bathroom is even beautiful, there's actually a note that says "please avoid taking work calls in the bathroom,"probably because people love the look of it in the background of their zoom call!) and if you're already going to wait 20-30 minutes for a drink you might as well sit and savor it! The matcha was made with coconut water instead of milk which I've never had and then topped with a decadent cold foam that was blue from spirulina. Definitely one of the best I've had! read more

This place is very cute and trendy, with street parking available. I wasn't a fan of the 2 hour WiFi limit or the limited outlets but there was a decent amount of seating available. My matcha cost nearly $10 which was a bit on the pricey side for the size but I'm assuming it's due to the quality of the product. If you're looking for a coffee house a little off the beaten track (or hidden away, however you want to look at it), I'd highly recommend Bad Mother. When I first walked in, it was genuinely quiet and almost felt like I was being intrusive--because people were *actually* working. And that's honestly a great feeling about a coffee house. There's plenty of comfortable seating available, and there's a couple closed of business offices which are a part of the space. The menu is perhaps slightly on the sparse side, but it's still authentic which in my personal opinion is what ultimately matters at the end of the day. They staff is super friendly and the whole aesthetic of the space is very warm and inviting. If I didn't miss seasons so much I'd almost wish this could be transplanted to somewhere that gets snow lol. Will definitely be stopping in here again soon! read more

We loved the cappuccinos here, and a unique open-faced egg n cheese on an unrolled croissant: they use "mille-foille" pastry = the many-buttery-layered dough croissants are rolled from, but they leave the flaky dough flat, which then curls up around the melted egg n cheese when toasted in the oven! Delicious!! The space itself is beautiful, with lots of seating. It's a very welcoming workspace for those who work for themselves at home but want to have a more social workspace for part or all of their workweek.
