This place used to be our go to and favorite brewery to hang out at. I think management has changed (unconfirmed) but the vibe and ambiance has certainly changed from the first year they opened. Many times it's very loud indoors with live bands and outside usually has very few seats available. They do have pizza on site now which is always delicious in my opinion but the brewery still allows you to bring your own food with you. Overall it's not a huge draw any longer but I would still visit if I was in the area, I just wouldn't plan my weekend around going there as we used to do. read more

I was in town for a wedding and the rehearsal dinner took part at Bad Sons. We had the food catered in but you could not beat the atmosphere of this place. Bad Sons is in the cut. Planted alongside the Houstanic River in an old factory warehouse, Bad Sons looks Bad Ass. While the outside of the building does have the old feel of a beaten down warehouse, it acts as a facade for the transformed space inside where magic happens. Now to be honest, I did not try all the beers. I was stuck on one. Going by the name Lupefied, this crisp, Double IPA, was citrusy with a generous alcohol content. I consider my self an IPA guy and the hoppiness blended with the citrus notes made this an easy new favorite of mine. So much so, that I took home a party gift for myself. I was assured by many friends that the other selections were equally as good. Part of the benefit of having the dinner here was that we were able to sit in the back next to the huge tanks that housed the nights delicacies. Kegs and kegs of liquid gold surrounded us as we drowned some spirits and partook in some giant connect four and corn hole. My partners failed to bring their game but alas, go to Bad Sons. Which gets its names from the neighboring towns. Little things like that make this place shine like the diamond in the rough it is. read more

Beer flight was cheap and yummy! 4 5oz pours for $8. We played games, sat outside and just relaxed. Great way to spend the afternoon. They also offer pizza, but we already ate. Bad sons is an awesome new brewery with lots of space to hang out indoors or outdoors with friends. There's always a food truck outside and certain days of the week you can order in food from local restaurants like Dew Drop. The beer is a mixed bag but while there are some that aren't quite ready for prime time there are some winners too, so the tasting is a good place to start. Lupefied is my favorite so far. I am not usually a beer drinker. A good cab is my drink of choice. However my husband, who is a IPA connoisseur, always wanted to come to bad sons brewery as he heard great things about it. I have to say I was not disappointed. This is a really nice historic brick building and the theme created is much the same. Had a flight of different beers I let the bartender choose. And I have to say I enjoyed them. My husband of course did a flight of IPAs and double dubious was his favorite here. The only issue I had was the hostess outside was a little bit snippy and the bartender could have been a little more attentive but all things considered, I would recommend this brewery and would come back if my husband wants to :-) read more

Came here after a stop for lunch at the Dew Drop Inn (which I've previously reviewed). Bad Sons is probably not even a half mile from there. Good craft beer, with a significant number of their offerings being IPA's, which I happen to love. I had the Doobious and the straight six IPA's. The Doobious was fantastic, big powerful take no prisoners type IPA, the straight six was a bit more mellow and subtle when compared with the Doobious. Enjoyed them both. They're in an old converted brick factory, large bar, large overall inside, and what looks like a nice outside area if the weather was a bit warmer. Next time I go back, going to take an Uber so I can try more of their IPA's! read more

Great local brewery. Clean and industrial looking. Love the cell inside. Not sure what the building was before looks like kinda old school cafeteria house or something. My husband & I went early Sat eve, around 7:30. The place was jammed & service was, understandably, a bit slow. We were visiting family, with a long drive home, planned to stop in for one and ended up staying for an extra round. We also had a blast playing "bar shuffleboard." Great prices for a pint, and for a generous flight! Have to say that the beer took second place to the bar/brewery, because it's so over-the-top AH-mazing! Conn Ale was my husbands first choice, after trying all four. He enjoyed it (sorry I don't have a more detailed beer review) and really didn't care for the others. We are typically, both double IPA drinkers. I absolutely loved the Blended cider and hope this is a year-round staple. So glad that I approached the owner/brewer, Mark(?) and heard the incredible backstory on the old machine shop (take a look at the centerpiece, behind the bar) and how he acquired the building! I have got to say, Badsons has really stepped up their IPA game and is producing some of the absolute BEST beers around! From Doobious, to Lupified, the the new Lil Lupe these beers are some of the truly finest there are! I find myself ordering Badsons beers every time I find them on a menu nearby and am never disappointed; their can logos and designs are so awesome also. Good beer, nice atmosphere. I will be back. No food, there is a deck. $8 for four five ounce samples is how I roll. The Connecticut Ale, Light Rider, Mechanical Milkman on my first round were all very good. As was the guest Fresh Blend Cider from New England Cider in Wallingford, CT. My second round was all IPAs. My favorite of everything was the excellent Flight Risk Session IPA. The Lupefied Double IPA had nice balance and was very good. I also liked the Doobius and the Wayward Son. Bad Sons is truly a gem!! The old , renovated brick factory it's set in brings charm I didn't think was possible in Connecticut, Vermont or New Hampshire maybe... but not old Ct. As if the large structure of charm wasn't enough, they have a whole lawn to relax on... superb for nice weather. Oh and did I mention the beer? Superb! Each one I tried blew my mind. Really like the place. In fact it's awesome! But, the beers.....the "Doobage" supposedly a "New England IPA... Nope. Not even close... Too much bitter, barely any nose, too much carbonation and an overpowering vegetal off flavor. New brewery, LOTS off potential! All the beers were disappointing, all were VERY underwhelming. As if they were looking for a mass market. All tasted watered down, no complexity. Not for beer afficianados. I hope they are tweaking their recipes. This is a hard place for me to review as I'm not a fan of any of the beers that are offered by Bad Sons. I'm giving them 3 stars based on my friend's determination of the beers. Beers: they are all fairly hoppy so if you aren't a fan of lots of hops, you probably wouldn't enjoy the beers. Food: Another reason I'm giving 3 stars. Most breweries always have a food truck but here never has one when I show up. I have gone 3 times and every time there is no truck. Apparently they do have trucks show up but they aren't regularly there. Decor: This is best part of the place. Their attention to details is outstanding. From the door handles, tap designs, artwork. (Can be dangerous) Their name is an Acronym for : Beacon Falls,Ansonia ,DERBY, Shelton ,Oxford ,Naugatuck, & Seymour, The Valley Towns.. Cool!!! Even though some that live in Shelton don't like it to be recognized as a Valley town .. but hey...IT IS!!! Their logo is neat... skull head hop! Just love the atmosphere & awesome job they did converting this old brick factory into a brewery! The flights glasses come in a tin cup cake mold . Clever! We love the"bad billy brown" the best:) so good! We ordered hot wings, jalapeño stuffed peppers & fries from food truck outside. They have a cool shuffle board to play. This is really a neat place! When I first heard we were meeting in Derby I felt a bit nauseous- but ended up having a great time at a great place. This place is all about the atmosphere. I didn't have a beer that knocked my socks off. They don't serve food. But the feel of the place, some games - makes the experience cool. But why close on a Friday night at 10pm?!! Also - it gets loud here. I'd certainly go back - but also have a place to go to afterwords. My friends were smart enough to bring some food - which made the experience that much better. Very good brewery operation. Very cool interior being in an old factory building. It has a big walk around bar nearly in the center. When it's warm there's outdoor seating or for those that like roasting near a fire pit there's one. No food served but check the food truck schedule, delivery options, or BYOF. The beer is good however there's not a huge variety of styles with 50% (of a dozen) being an IPA / DIPA but the selection has expanded since the beginning. There's a section of space inside near the tanks that can be rented. At $25 an hour Monday - Thursday it makes an excellent spot for a small retirement party or birthday celebration. So far I've only experienced good service and a pleasant staff at Bad Sons. My ATT cell service is usually dismal inside. read more

Would have given 5 stars, but the music was way too loud. So, it's a great place for good beer at reasonable prices. There is a large bar and long tables for seating. We went late afternoon on a Tuesday and surprisingly for a Tuesday the place filled up quickly. Possibly office parties and birthday celebrations. What's nice is you can bring your own snacks in. We had brought in wings from the Dew Drop down the street. (They were DRY as hell. Like sawdust and not cheap either). Like I mentioned, My ONLY COMPLAINT was you couldn't hear yourself talk. The music was very loud. The speakers clearly could not handle any music at such a loud volume. Music was very very distorted because of it. This beer was really good - zero complaints - and the atmosphere was really fun. It was very busy but we went on the weekend. The bartenders were just attentive enough. It was frustrating to get their attention but they weren't overly aggressive. This spot is getting to the famous point but it isn't sold out. They had a private event but didn't bother to announce that they are closed to the public because of this on any of their social media. Definitely a waste of gas, time and energy. A friend and I went here today because we bought a groupon. Neither one of us are big beer drinkers but we like checking out new places. I was pleasantly surprised when we ended up liking 3 out of the 4 beers served. Atmosphere is good, crowd ranges from 20s to 50s for the most part so it's a good mix. Only issues with the place was service. It was busy, but not slammed and it seemed like the girls behind the bar kind of ignored us. Maybe they just need more training. Other than that we enjoyed the experience. I would recommend it as a good afternoon stop. read more

I went there with a couple of friends Friday after work. The brewery itself is very nice, loved the layout and how the old factory building was converted. The patio was also very nice, great lawn, a fire pit, and a few games available to play. Where I was really disappointed was the beer itself. I prefer IPAs and was happy to find out that they had 2 double, 2 session, and 2 regular IPAs. Between all 3 of us, we tried 5 out of 6 IPAs. All tasted sour and not hoppy. If you're an IPA fan, definitely stay away until the owners figure out how to properly brew one. If you like other types of beer, give them a try as the atmosphere is great and overall the place seemed fun. Just wish the beer was on par with everything else. read more
