Only come here if money is not a concern at all. They will charge you extra for everything. Lettuce is 92 cent extra, want it on a bagel? Extra... you want a cup with ice? 5 bucks. 1/2 pound of pasta salad is 10 dollars. Food is mid, bread is dry. We will not be back and will be actively avoiding it. I wrote a review for Bagel Boss in 2016 and I gave it 2 stars. I had to update my review in 2023 and am updating my rating to 1 star as I think people should look elsewhere to get their bagels. One of my biggest gripes about this location was that the prices always seemed to vary even when my order stayed the same. In addition, pricing has risen over the years (as it has with other places). I usually get two bagels ($1.75 each last time I went, and I think that's too much), but sometimes they'd charge me for tax and sometimes they wouldn't. Over the years, they had specials, but they're gone now. The most recent time that I went, I went to get two bagels with nothing in them as I usually do (and I asked for them to be sliced), but the total came out to about $4. When I asked the young lady what changed, she said there was a 'cutting fee'. I've never heard of any normal bagel place charging a 'cutting fee'. The quality of the bagels is also inconsistent. Sometimes they'll be very good and sometimes they'll be average. The customer service is also below average overall. Some of the younger guys have been friendly, so no disrespect to them. But some of the older gentlemen have been pretty gruff and / or unable to follow simple directions. I definitely never have felt very welcome as a customer here. So these are some honest observations I've had with patronizing this establishment over the course of years. If you're in the Westbury area and need bagels, I'd recommend 'The Bagel Shop' on Old Country Rd. instead. read more

I come here time to time when I get the opportunity to meet and visit world renowned Scholar Imaam Zameer Sattaur and this is a good spot for me to just come and enjoy a nice cup of strong coffee and a delicious well made bagel with really good cream cheese !!! This Bagel Boss get a five star rating hands down. Located right on Jericho Turnpike, Jericho in a shopping center, it is a very easy in and out with plenty of parking...even during the busy periods. This is a large location with plenty of seating and plenty of all different kinds of foods. The store is clean and inviting to sit and dine at. I stop by here often when I'm in the mood for a GOOD bagel and coffee. Reasonable pricing for their portion size and quality of food. They were putting out their cooked lunch specials on my last visit and could see the great variety of choices. Since I'm usually here just for a [cream cheese] bagel and coffee I just watched a few people picking up some lunch. This was some good looking food. The team here is always friendly and helpful. So i had a simple order. Sesame bagel toasted with plain cream cheese. Either the counter guy told bagel prep guy wrong instructions or the bagel prep guy didnt hear the counter guy accurately. I saw him spread the butter and i notified the counter person its cream cheese and not butter. Everything about Bagel Boss feels right. It's family run, has an extensive traditional menu. If you live in the neighborhood, it's a decent place to lean on for that local atmosphere, and feeling like you belong - but that's about it. I'll admit we've only been twice, and because of the size of the menu there are a lot of things I haven't tried. Good neighborhood bagel place. Tasty and expensive bagels and good coffee. Lots of options for tastes and dietary restrictions. Best thing I like is they have fresh squeezed orange juice. Perhaps some quality dishes are hiding in the depths of those menu pages. Don't go by my rating...The star ratings by other people tells it all. Plain and simply, not only are they a bad bagel and deli provider, but their staff is racist and condescending as well. Today, their personnel, one latino guy (whom I have encountered as well) and one guy who claims he is the owner (doubtful) decided to go all in and verbally abuse my wife in front of all their customers. Thank God there are decent people in the world as many of the potential customers, walked out after seeing how rude and abusive both these individuals were. Kudos to my wife for being able to keep her composure with these idiots. I'm not sure I would be able to do the same. There is nothing special about their bagels. There are lots of bagel places on Long Island and CERTAINLY better delis. You would be better served to patronize those locations rather than one who decided they are ok with verbally abusing women and minorities. I actually love their food. The food gets 5 stars. This review is for their service. About once a month we order delivery at work from them through grubhub... and EVERY SINGLE TIME THEY SCREW IT UP. I asked for a 1/4 lb of cream cheese i was given and charged for a 1/2 lb. i asked for iced coffee with skim i was given iced coffee with whole milk. Finally when other problems were Made right I was rung up and saw a charge for .50 and asked what it was. I was told it was for lettuce and tomato. When I told the person helping me I didn't get L&T I was told it was for salt, pepper and ketchup. After I got home I saw there was no S,P or K on my sandwich. I was very surprised to see that this bagel boss location has a two star rating, wondered why this one does so poorly compared to others; figured I would check it out for myself. Here's what I found: Bagels are fresh, tasty and chewy, and most or all of the varieties your find elsewhere. I tried some whitefish salad on a raisin bagel, one of my go to's, which will surely give you an idea of the quality of their appetizing. It was delicious. And, the pickle, perfect half sour without having to ask, and the homemade potato salad were equally excellent. Though I didn't have any, the cakes and cookies, danish and pastries all looked the same as I remember. So what is it that I think brings people's opinions so low at this location? My guess is it's the price for the value you get. A bagel sandwich like this, with a drink, is $15. And while, in other Long Island towns, that's the norm, I suppose here on the westbury border, it is being somewhat rejected. Mind you, on a Sunday morning, all those locations have long lines to pay those high prices. If you don't feel like waiting, just come and eat or take out of this one. read more

I love being on the road. You have access to great locations and amazing places to eat. On a familiar road I ran into a familiar bagel shop. "Bagel Boss" claims to be boss in its service and food. Well, I'm one to take on a challenge, so I pulled up. The parking lot was big, they share it with other businesses in the center. I found a spot up front and went in. Going inside the business looked boss as far as cleanliness and organization. The line was long but the wait was quick. I found myself next pretty quickly so I liked that. When I ordered I went for sausage, eggs and cheese. To my surprise they don't use sausage, but they offer veggie sausage. I quickly changed over to bacon, and again he told me it's veggie bacon. No meat? I didn't know what to do. Should I go for a hash brown? No, I decided to take the veggie sausage. He told me I would love it, so I decided to give it a go. Once I got my meal, at a great price, I sat down to eat. It was pretty big and so far I was impressed with the size of my wrap. But would the veggie sausage pay off? The vote was in and the veggie sausage was impressive! I really loved it. I would never turn my back on meat, but hey, it a good substitution. I loved the place, it earned the title "boss." I ate here on Saturday, 6/11 with a couple of friends. It is a moderately lit and pretty placid space located in the same shopping center as Frank's Steaks. There is ample parking in the large lot in front of the stores. Service was pretty slow. I ordered a Blueberry Muffin. It was substandard, pretty flavorless and "berriless". I could bake a better muffin at home in my sleep. I ordered a Pumpernickel and a Plain Bagel to consume at home from the freezer and to add some depth to this review. The Pumpernickel Bagel was very good, with a deep, rich and savory "pumpernickel" (caraway?) flavor. The Plain Bagel was meh. Both bagels were unpleasantly tough around the edges, reminiscent of freezer-burned or stale bread. Nevertheless, I would get the Pumpernickel Bagel again if I was in the area. I really wanted to award a three. However, I cannot overlook the hard edges of these bagels, which raises issues of either freshness or poor cooking technique, because Long Island has so many other options for bagels where one does not confront that issue. read more

Horrible. I live 5 mins away from this place but I would rather drive out of my way to go to Brendel's on Old Country Rd or all the way to Bagel Doctor in Jericho/Hicksville. The very first time that I ever set foot in here, I asked the guy behind the counter if it was a kosher establishment (since I was in the mood for bacon). He looked at me with disdain and said "this is Bagel Boss." Perplexed I asked him; "do you serve bacon?" He looked at me like I was stupid and repeated; "this is Bagel Boss." That turned me off from returning for about a year or so, when I finally gave them a second shot. I ordered a plain bagel with cream cheese. It was a busy day but still & all I waited about twice as long as I should've for a simple bagel with cream cheese. Fast forward another year or two - til today. It's the day after Christmas. The kids want bagels. I don't want to drive far. I have bacon at home. So I give it another shot. Empty lot so I park and go inside. Walk up to the counter, where two employees are having a conversation. I know they see me, but I suppose their conversation is so important to them that I have to wait for them to finish discussing personal B.S. (I speak Spanish so I know it was B.S. they were talking) before granting me the benefit of their attention. Placed order - 6 bagels & half pound of cream cheese - in Spanish just to see if I could elicit some camaraderie. Dude hands me the bag, takes my money, hands me change without so much as a word or the benefit of eye contact. Now, I go to Bagel Boss in Plainview frequently - sometimes in the wee hours of the night even - and I have never felt as unwanted as I do in the Jericho store. I don't know what it is, but I don't care. I will give my hard-earned money to a place where I am greeted with a smile and not made to feel as if they are doing me a FAVOR by selling me bagels. $8.68 for a toasted poppyseed bagel with lite veggie tuna. Anywhere else, I could get the same exact thing for less than six bucks. That's outrageous. Good customer service. Bad clean up crew. I went towards the end of the day when they start to get ready for closing. The guy rolling up the carpets, was causing a dust avalanche where people were still eating and close to where all of the food is displayed. That's the best way for contamination. If anything, take the rugs or carpets out back and bang them in the open air away from the customers and the food. The bagel itself wasn't toasted enough or at all. The tuna fish was fine. I live 2 minutes from this Bagel Boss. I heard the stories and didn't want to believe it. The service is horrible. The staff give you the feeling as if they are all angry and ready to cuss you out. They skipped me purposely. One guy even looked at me and went in the back to not serve me. The hostility was so noticeable that the others customers back up like they expected something to go down. How did this happen? What makes the staff seem very ready to be hostile. I can no longer trust them to handle anything I am to eat. I tried with them and did not go off of what I heard.
