The woman at the order counter was as edgy as can be. There was a couple in back of me anxious to order and I did not know which bagel I wanted so I told them to go ahead I am still looking. I was searching for small finger sandwich platters, or pinwheels, to deliver to someone's house on very short notice. I couldn't find photos of sandwich platters to see what I would be ordering so I took a chance, and I am very happy I did. I overheard people saying these sandwiches are really good. I asked that the wraps be cut into 3 pieces to make smaller sandwiches, and the deli sandwiches cut into 4's. It worked out very well. The side salads were also very good. Normally macaroni salads have a strange chemical taste, but this salad did not have that, it was really good, as was the potato salad, but the pickles seemed to be the winner of the sides. The pickles went fast, and the homeowner that I sent the food to said he will be buying his pickles from Bagel Boys Cafe. I had no expectations of being this pleasantly surprised. In town for my 50th HS reunion, I knew that much of the area has experienced an increase in the Jewish population and I was expecting good food. I was not disappointed. In this review I will talk about my breakfast experience in terms of food, service and ambiance. First, I will comment on the shop's reputation. Entering the deli, a former classmate met me as I was exiting. She was a long time resident of this area and Long Island, but now lives in upstate NY. With a big bag in her hand she said that if she did not come back with a sack full, her (adult) daughter (living in Buffalo) would have a fit if bagels did not come back. These were heading for the freezer. So the place has a reputation for great bagels. Ordering breakfast took a bit of effort. The man behind the deli counter kept forgetting how I wanted my bagel prepared, but he did get it right. All I ordered was an everything bagel with lox, cream cheese, onion, tomato and capers. That with a cup of coffee was all that I needed. The food was New York City great, and at acceptable NYC prices. An unexpectedly large portion of lox was stacked on the bagel. More kudos go out to the great tasting tomato. These bagels were prepared the right way. I found the kettle used to boil the dough before baking. One reason for only 4* was the comparative quality of the bagel. I now live in the Nashville, TN area. I can easily count on several local suppliers down here with bagels that are just as good. One thing Bagel Boys has in its favor are all the different varieties they have that I cannot find locally. Instead of just being a bagel shop, the place is really a deli. I have not been in a real NYC deli in years. It is also a bakery. These details coupled with a bright store with many windows really made me feel good. The bakery had so many tempting sweet and savory offerings. Down here in TN, it is hard to find a good bakery with bread and rolls. Behind the glass at the counter were delicious looking side dishes. Items you don't see in TN included whitefish salad, noodle pudding, and many more. Upon entering, you have to decide between two lanes. One for take out bagels and the other for the deli counter. I was a bit confused at first, but figured out which line to get in and where the cash register was. Overall, it was a great experience. Had I been traveling by car, I would have spend a lot more money, taking goodies home to share. As it was, I was flying commercially and that was cumbersome. I would go back here again and it would be a favorite stop if I lived in the area again. However, as I have very few reasons to travel back here, I doubt I will see it in the near future. I'm surprised by some of the bad reviews because I've been coming here for years and have overall had good experiences! Yes, it's crowded and the line can be a little intimidating; it's definitely better to get there on the earlier side. If you get there towards the end of their business day, the bagels will be picked over. Still, the bagels are always fresh! My go to is their bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a whole wheat bagel. Has seriously gone down hill in the past 5 years. When this place moved into its larger space, business took off!!! And the food was great. It ws a great place to hang out and grab breakfast before heading to school or a sporting event. After coming home from college, I have been disappointed by Bagel Boys on mroe than one occassion. They used to have loads of candy and gum stocked in the fornt by the cash register, but that is pretty much gone. Everything has skyrocketed in price (as expected) but there are much cheaper (and yummier) places in town to get a bagel. The real reson I sat down today to write this review was because I went in to order a poppy seed bagel toasted with butter, a rainbow bagel toasted with butter, and a yoohoo. They got the poppy seed right but that bagel was of course for my mom. My supposed to be rainbow bagel was a sesame seed bagel and I was just furious. On top of it, I got charged double for my yoohoo and didn't realize any of this unitl I got back in the car. I was so mad that I did not want to go back in and fix it. The sesame seed bagel was trash. However, if they get everything right and if you are in the modd for this kind of bagel, it can be tasty. That is why it got two stars instead of one. read more

We just moved to the area and bought a few breakfasts here while the kitchen was getting unpacked.
