I was on my way home from Norwood and looked up best bagels near me and there were a few that came up but Butterworth had the most stars. I have to say I was very disappointed. The bagels are very doughy and they don't have a good crust. Someone wrote up that the French toast bagels were more flavorful than other places, but I disagree and the cinnamon raisin bagel did not have very much cinnamon or raisins. the bagels looked good but did not live up to flavor. The bagel places in Bergen County such as Fairlawn hot bagels, bagel nosh in hillsdale and hot bagels in Teaneck are much better. Just depends if your in any of those areas read more

I should have reviewed Butterworths Bagel Bakery years ago. I've been there every Sunday for the past eight or so years. I take my bagels seriously and I drive past a handful of other bagel options to get to Butterworths. The bagels are consistently excellent, great texture and flavor. Their toppings are creative, I was reminded to do the review today after trying their new French Toast bagel. Yes, I know certain chain places might do a flavor like this but I guarantee they don't do it with this attention to detail. Perfect level of cinnamon and a crispy powdered sugar topping made for an amazing bagel! The owners are a reminder of what small business in America is all about. Proud of their food, consistently on site and working hard with their staff. They're genuinely nice people, always ready to share a quick comment about an upcoming game etc. Also impressive is the retention of a truly pleasant and professional staff. My company regularly uses Butterworths for catering orders specifically breakfast because the quality is good and they are very reliable. This week I had to place a super last minute order for breakfast for the next day and they were able to accommodate me without a problem. I placed an order for mini muffins & danishes, chocolate chip cookies and mini cannolis and called back to add some orange juice and coffee. Delivery was made on time and plated beautifully!! They sure know how to make you look good! lol Everyone raved about the cannolis and how fresh the cookies were. I tried not to eat all the chocolate mini muffins because they were so moist and good. One of my FAVORITE BAGEL SPOTS IN NORTHERN JERSEY!!! I have been coming here for well over a decade. Their bagels are fantastic. The texture of them are amazing. Chewy, crisp on the outside, not too dense not too airy.. they have great flavors of cream cheese and their deli / grill items are also amazing. Highly recommend getting a sausage, egg, and cheese, with hash brown on a Keizer roll if you're not into bagels with cream cheese. To die for. Easy stop for a great breakfast or a quick lunch. Tons of parking in the plaza. Theres a few stores within the plaza for a quick stop and shop before work or school. If i hadn't moved near another bagel spot by my new place, I would definitely be making the 30 minute drive to Butterworth's for all of my bagel cravings. read more

In my opinion these are the best bagels and the freshest salads in NY/NJ and I know this as having come from the lower east side of Manhattan. The assembly line method for efficient service was created for a reason. My lazy, hungover Saturday morning turned exciting upon the thought of eating a delicious bagel, cream cheese and lox. And to be honest, I was all around disappointed. Food: Everything Bagel was WAY too salty. Good morning iced coffee, hit the spot. Service: I had 4 bagels to order. Seemingly they take them one at a time, and only one person can help assemble said bagels. I get frustrated. I ask one of the young ladies to receive my other 2 orders. She says she cant help me because I need to be helped by whomever is meant to be helping me (that person being MIA because he was off buttering or toasting or doing something). The manager notes I am a bit frustrated. He askes have I ordered, I say yes and need to order more. He says to tell my guy. Root cause of my problem, after speaking to 3 people, remained unsolved until I finally netted me another person all the while, customers were swooping in, ordering, and leaving, while I waited and waited. The place will do fine because they have a local, loyal staff. But to take itself to the next level, it'll need to think about serving people with less attitude and with better efficiency in mind. Bagels are pretty standard, not the worst I have had by a long shot; just OK. The main complaint with this store is the service, the service is terrible. The workers are lifeless and dead eyed and could care less about you or your business. Even the "owners" kind of just stare at you when you are ordering. Everything with a sigh. Not a smile or a "Thank you" ever..... The tip jars are light for a reason. Pre-slicing Lox for "sliders" is a sin, It would take 2 minutes to put lox on a mini bagel. read more

Wife and I were passing through and desperately needed some breakfast and coffees. Service was very quick for a double egg bacon and cheese on a roll, the bacon was plentiful, and the sandwich was hot and delicious. Wife got a jalapeno bagel with scallion cream cheese which was above average bagel (not the best, but better than most). Both hot and ice coffees were great. Prices were extremely reasonable. Read all the negative reviews about service after visiting, and am rather surprised. The staff was very friendly and efficient for a busy Saturday morning. Maybe they took the reviews and changed?! Great coffee as well! It is extremely popular. There is always a line on mornings. Service isn't the happy smiley good morning service, but workers there have been there awhile and people who go there are regulars. I am so pissed with their attitude and their service that I could give them a 0 star. My friend and I (both brown and off Indian origin), wanted to have some bagels and decided to go to this store with predominantly a caucasian clientelle. My friend who was visting me took three pictures (one of them being on the outside with the name of the bagel store, one of them being different cream cheese spreads and the third one that of the menu. Absolutely no people were photographed). We got our bagel and were walking out and was first stopped by a women who happens to be a store employee. She asked if we were taking pictures and I said "Yes, we were taking pictures as my friend from India wanted to checkout a bagel store (we dont have one in india) to check in to facebook and told her no people were photographed". I also asked her if it was a problem and offered to delete the pictures for which she said "No, we have had other people photograph us in the past and they wanted to know what was going on". As we got in to the car, we got a big guy stopping us again, claiming to be the owner of the store who was rude to the core. He started with "No one comes to my store and takes pictures in here without my permission". When I was explaining to him "My friend was from India and he wanted to get a couple of pictures and we would be fine deleting them", he responded with expletives that "I dont give a f*** where your friend is from" and to the shock of both of us grabbed my friends phone. I told him, he had no right to touch my friends phone as my friend had no reason to take pictures of his store. By this time, there were people staring at us and the owner decided to give the phone back and started walking in to the store. I told him "You just lost 2 customers", his response was 'I dont care. I will be here twenty years from now". The words from his mouth are that he does not care about customers, not mine. The bagels were average and over priced. They support a lot of local teams and have a good patronage and hence the cocky attitude. read more

Having moved real close to here, we frequently get bagels here. When they're warm they're the best. When they're not warm they're still good. Also get their way to expensive nova scotia salmon buy it in small quantities a few times a week. It is great quality, not too salty like most. All in all, we love breakfast to go here.
