My last visit to Bagel One might be one of my last, just because it was so depressing. I placed a phone order, which was alright. However, the shop itself was abysmal. No chairs because of Covid, but it looks post-apocalyptic - there's no ambiance to even mention. The customer in front of me ordered with someone who was running orders - and by the time she got to the counter to pay, the girl behind the register didn't know the order. The customer, an elderly person, couldn't remember and I helped her recall her order. When I cashed out, they gave me my order of two cinnamon raisin bagels, and I asked about the blueberry muffins. My question was answered but the girl cashing me out didn't ask if I'd like to add a blueberry muffins to my order! Cause I wanted to! But before I knew it, my card was swiped and it was over. I understand food service isn't a glamorous job - I worked here for 3 1/2 years about 5 years ago. Even on my toughest days, I tried to put on a smile for the customers. It's literally all about the service they receive and their loyalty to the establishment to return. Quality of food is part of it - which the crew in the back has had for *ages*, but everything the customer sees is sad. My motto was that you eat with your eyes, and that means the ambiance and appearance. None of which Bagel One has right now. I hope this changes. I used to love it here. I used to come here 10+ years ago and loved the bagels, but when I came in today I was appalled at how dirty the restaurant was. All the tables were dirty, drinks spilled all over the floor, and the ceiling tiles were so brown and stained that some of them were sagging. We ordered before realizing how dirty it was and were worried the whole time that we would get sick. The food was ok, but I can't get past the unsanitary conditions and won't eat there again. I don't think they could possibly pass a health inspection with the state of the eating area. I really hope they clean the restaurant up and get more friendly staff so they can stay in business. read more

I don't understand the hype. There was no one in line, and it took almost 20 minutes to have our order ready. The employees disappeared to the back and didn't emerge for quite some time. Were they working on other orders? Was it only the two of them? AnywayWe figured it would be well worth the wait. We were wrong. It wasn't. Opening up my wrapped to-go sandwich, I was left with the age old question, "where's the beef?" This flavorless and tiny sandwich left me disappointed and hungry. These bagels are delicious and they've got such a nice range of flavors that you can't get just anywhere. My only point of improvement that I hope the shop sees/reads me on this: please be conscientious about the knife you are using to cut a savory bagel vs a sweet bagel. Today I got a sesame with cream cheese and strawberry jelly. The one off was the hint of garlic I could taste likely from a prior cut with the knife. The actual bagels here are quite good. Our favorites are the spinach-garlic, everything with salt, whole wheat, and egg. A half-dozen to go is pretty standard for us, after we order food. Husband likes the hummus, tomato, and lettuce on a wheat or pumpernickle bagel. Daughter likes veggie cream cheese on a toasted everything with salt bagel. I think the pastrami on a spinach bagel is divine; always get the pickle! I have also enjoyed any of the egg-based breakfast sandwiches. But, the decor is so tired and dirty. I used to go to Bagel One all the time when I was at UConn. I did not realize then how good I had it! No other bagel shop compares to Bagel One. Their bagels are fresh and tasty and they have the best flavor selection around. I had a fondness for the sunflower seed bagels back in college (I'm pretty sure our dining halls must have gotten their bagels here as well, since we had sunflower seed bagels every day). The nuttiness, when toasted with just a little butter...it's just perfect. In my adult life, I've never found these bagels anywhere else. One spot had a "sunflower seed bagel" that appeared to just be a plain or egg bagel with sunflower seeds "pasted" all over the outside. No bueno. One Sunday morning, I was out doing errands and just decided to take the ride to North Windham for some bagels. 10 - 13 bagels cost just $10 (of course, I got 13), which is a pretty fair deal. My freezer is now stocked with my most favorite bagel, and I couldn't be happier. In my opinion, Bagel One is worth the drive from anywhere, their bagels are beyond compare. read more

I take a star off because the service can be so-so (sometimes slow and sometimes not the friendliest) and the decor is really outdated and I personally hate seeing their bug zapper on the wall right next to where you order. THESE BAGELS ARE TO DIE FOR! I've been coming here since I was in diapers. They have so many to choose from and you can see them making them fresh in the back. The staff is always very nice and quick. The place could be updated a bit since it's been around forever but there really isn't anything wrong with it. Always very clean. My bagel go to's are plain toasted with a ton of butter just because it's simple and tasty. (Sometimes I make it special and add some veggie cream cheese). Also love the French toast and crazy bagels, but seriously you can't go wrong here. They also have great home fries and BLT's. Pretty extensive menu even though they have reduced it slightly and they are open bright and early so it's the perfect option on the way into work. read more

My experience was so bad that I made an account to write this review. It took over 20 minutes to get my order of 3 bagels, while it wasn't that busy. The employees were sitting behind the counter swearing at each other, and making physical threats to each other. Many of the other customers in the building were visibly frustrated that their orders were taking forever, or came out wrong. Most importantly, there were blatant food safety issues. There were bags of bagels on the ground, and the employees were vaping next to the bagels and in front of the customers. Great food, crappy service. The bagels are great, and sandwiches are usually really good. But the service is often pretty bad, and most of the employees working the counter don't really seem to want to be there. Service here used to be better, but a lot of their former employees are gone, and the current ones are slow/uninterested. You usually have to wait an unreasonably long time to get your order, and although they usually get it right, if they screw it up the counter workers get confused about how to fix it. I keep going back because I like the bagels and coffee, and there's no place else nearby that has bagels nearly as good as Bagel One. But it would be nice if the owner/manager was around more to train and supervise the staff better. Also, the place usually isn't very clean. It's been around for a while and hasn't been updated, so I get it's not gonna be spotless, but it wouldn't hurt to have the staff clean off tables. If someone opened a competing bagel shop nearby with great bagels AND good service, they'd probably put Bagel One out of business. read more

I would just like to say how wonderful B1 is. I have never been to such a place, around where I live there is garbage. But B1 is such a great way to start off my day. I wish I could go there everyday, its perfect for breakfast or lunch. I just wish B1 was open later that is probably the only flaw. I have been eating Bagel One for forever! They used to deliver to my high school for daily breakfast. Which was when I was first introduced to them. It's a nice, clean quiet place to sit and have brunch! The selection on the menu is relatively big so there is something for everyone. They do not sell ONLY bagels. The bagels are always fresh and there is a variety. My boyfriend gets the Bacon, Egg & Cheese on a "crazy Bagel" (also known as an everything bagel.) The bacon is always crispy! While I typically order an Asiago bagel. They are addicting, you can TELL that the cheese crisped on top is great quality. If you want something sweet.... a toasted plain bagel with butter, cinnamon and sugar on top hits the spot! Bagel One has yet to fail me and will always be a quick stop for a snack! read more

I do like the bagels here very much. Great flavors. But almost every single time I place an order over the phone for 2 dozen bagels, they mess up my order somehow. I ask for the bagels sliced, and they are not (then it takes 10-15 minutes to unbag them & reslice). Or, I ask that the savory and sweet bagels not be mixed together, and they are. Or they don't give me the bagels I ordered, in the quantity I asked for. Usually the bagels are amazing and it's my favorite place to get bagels, however the service is not the best. They all seem to not actually want to be there which is unfortunate. The phone rang for 2 straight minutes before anyone answered and when they did answer they were very rude. The review before me sounded so great and then gave just 2 stars? I think the place is not as good as he made it sound but I have to give it 3 stars (becauase 2.5 isn't an option). Once I ordered a buffalo chicken bagel and it was like $5.50 or something and had maybe 1/4 piece of chicken in there sprinkled with some buffalo sauce and nothing more. I bought two and plus tax was down nearly $12 for something I would feed my dog. I DO LOVE THIS PLACE! Such a cool variety of bagels that you wouldn't normally find in a grocery store (ex: sunflower seed)... Cool cream cheese options too (ex: artichoke)! Fun tea and coffee varieties too! Love this place! Only have had their bagels because I'm that Kim's of addict, but I see they serve an assortment of other neat food too!
