Even if you do that, the simplest warm food will apparently take 30mins. I placed an order and waited 10+ mins for a toasted plain with butter. Got it outside to eat and it wasn't even warm, much less toasted. The butter was 0% melted. Ok, at least I was able to get my son his egg bagel, dry and cold. Nope. Out of them before 10a. He got a plain and it was fine, but not appreciably better than other options. To give what little credit that's due, they DID toast a bagel when my gf took mine back in, but what if I had taken it to go? Most people do since there's no real place to eat there (a few tables outside on the busy road). Any bagel place that can't get a plain toasted with butter right in 15mins isn't worth your time. These are probably the best bagels in West Hartford, but given the lack of high quality competition, that isn't saying too much. Maybe their reputation leads to overly hyped expectations, because my breakfast sandwich was just decent. There's nothing bad about the food, but also nothing too exciting. To be fair, I ordered some straight forward breakfast bagels and haven't yet tried their more unique menu items. The bacon egg and cheese was not very cheesy. Egg and bacon were both good. I asked for chipotle mayo, which as an additional $0.50 add-on, was a half-hearted portion. The bagel itself (went for an everything) was fine. Again, to be fair, I'm a born and raised Montrealer so coming from the home of the best bagels in the world (come at me, New Yorkers) it left something to be desired. But I don't blame Goldberg's for that- as I said, it's probably the best in the area. I also got a cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese. I appreciated that my request for well toasted was listened to. The bagel itself had nice flavor, sweet enough without tasting like a dessert. Could have had more raisins in it. The amount of cream cheese was satisfactory, even for my husband. I believe the biggest turn-off about Goldberg's is that you can't just roll out of bed and head over to grab a bite. They suggest you place an order 45min before you want to pick up (this is probably only true on weekends). You can order online, which is helpful, but if you're just trying to cure your hangover with a hearty breakfast, you probably don't have the foresight to plan so far in advance. All in all, I wouldn't give up on them. I don't think the basic breakfast sandwiches are worth recommending to others, but I will be sure to go back and try some of their other more interesting sandwiches. Stay tuned. read more

Fortunately, at Goldberg's we can declare a winner: I absolutely love their bagel sandwiches. Lots of options (consider Taylor Ham or thick Cut bacon) and fresh cooked eggs (no microwave here)- and a big ol sandwich. Always fresh. Real good coffee choices. They also have a very good online ordering system which is critical to keep things moving. That said the place is small and when I went on Sunday late opening they had nearly 100 tickets on the board and were quoting over an hour wait. A victim of their own success. Me and my friends were excited to try a new bagel place on Sunday morning. We waited in line for a few minutes, and I was looking forward to ordering a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich. I was extremely surprised to hear the cashier tell us that it would be a "30 minute wait" for ANY items from the grill. 30 minutes????? You're supposed to be a bagel place. That's outrageous. Sometimes I think I don't give enough credit to my usual haunts and when re-reading my short and simple review of Goldberg's I felt I needed to update it with more details. I am a breakfast sandwich queen. I make killer sandwiches at home and expect killer sandwiches when I'm out and about. Goldberg's is always a solid choice. I usually go for the cheddar bagel with egg and cheese (an extra egg too) and swap between bacon (always crisp), sausage or Taylor ham*. Filling, inexpensive, quick and delicious. If you want something bigger they have a number of scrambles that come with eggs, your choice of meat, a hash brown and a toasted/buttered bagel of your choice. There's also a gut buster burrito. *if you've had Taylor ham (also known as pork roll) you probably love it, as I do. If you know anyone from Jersey who may be up in CT, bring them to Goldberg's for a breakfast sammy with Taylor ham and they will thank you. The staff is always extremely friendly and you can tell they welcome your patronage. Right now, due to Covid concerns, you can't sit inside and their website encourages you to phone your order in before showing up. It can get busy (people love this place and it shows) but you get in and out fast. The menu is pretty big and admittedly, I've only ever had breakfast sandwiches here but the lunch options also look great. Try it out! read more

For the most part, I've been to Goldberg's multiple times a year in the last 10 years. In the general area of the New Britain Avenue location, Goldberg's is the best option for bagels and cream cheese and breakfast sandwiches. Even in the Greater Hartford area, they are above average for bagels and cream cheese (and well above average for the bagel portion) and breakfast sandwiches. As other good bagel shops have opened in surrounding towns over the years, I've gone to Goldberg's less often because I like the flavored cream cheese better in other places. Goldberg's veggie cream cheese seems like it was conceived by somebody who knows they need to offer veggie cream cheese, but who doesn't really like veggie cream cheese or get what people like about it. Also, the service at Goldberg's generally ranges from fine to pretty good, but I've never really found the customer service to be a selling point, and there have been times I've left annoyed. Sometimes, It feels a little like going to the Wooster Street Pepe's in terms of service. Today, I ordered a bacon, egg and cheese on a toasted sesame bagel. The bagel was great and I loved the crunchiness of the toasted sesames. The egg and the cheese were good. The bacon was above average for a bagel place, but it was not evenly distributed. The service was pretty good today. I've found with their Pandemic Era strictly order ahead system, that they tend to under-promise and over-perform. For instance, they told me when I called that it would take 30 minutes. If Goldberg's really took 30 minutes to produce a bagel sandwich, I'd go somewhere else. I correctly assumed based on experience that it would be more like 20 minutes. Goldberg's has good food and I'd recommend it for the food if you live within a certain radius. As you get further away from Goldberg's, I'd probably consider some other options. Four Stars read more

All their sandwiches are amazing but you can't turn 10 minutes into 40. During this time of the pandemic that most of us suffer or even benefit from, they only take call in and online orders. No walk-ins. When ordering from the app, be aware of a $2 online service fee. From the Korean Steak and Eggs to their "Mother Clucker" all of their breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Full of flavor, can't get them just anywhere, and you could just tell the ingredients are of good quality. Chicken was nice and crispy, eggs were eggs and the cheese melted nice and stringy. My Korean Steak and Eggs lacked Korean flavors as they were out of the Korean marinade so it was just barely Korean steak and eggs. Still good though. HOWEVER, I understand the mornings are busy and COVID-19 could put pressure on businesses. But this last visit I was told "10 minutes" for my two sandwiches. Arrived 15-20 minutes after that and was told about 10 minutes again. 10 minutes later, they then turned their excuse into "5 more minutes" and finally got my sandwiches 20 minutes after that. That's a lot of minutes over the original hit time. If I was actually in a hurry this morning whether it be staying on schedule or running late to work, I would have been pissed. Luckily for them, I had the extra 40 minutes of waiting. Tasted great but the sandwiches were also sloppy and uneven this time. If I am gonna wait this long it better be perfect. Anyways, it tasted great and every other experience here has been just fine. They apologized for the wait but that was really long. If they told me 40 minutes it would have been fine as I could have just plamned accordingly. I've heard all the hype from this place and finally placed my to-go order last Sunday. I had the Korean steak and egg on an onion bagel, my brother had a pastrami, egg, and cheese on everything bagel, and we shared a jalapeño cheddar cheese bagel with bacon scallion cream cheese. My other brother opted for the ultimate breakfast sandwich. When I picked up the order, the place was pretty empty and wondered if I could have just placed the order at the counter. I placed the order online the night before after reading reports of busy weekend lines. I really, really wanted to love this place. However, I thought the bagels were pretty subpar. I like my bagels toasted on the outside and soft on the inside with a little bit of chewiness. I felt that the bagels here were on the dry side and kinda crumbled too much albeit being warm and toasted. The fillings were good as expected, I just wish the bagel itself was better. What can I say? Goldberg's never disappoints me. I have been coming here for years and my number one bagel of choice? There's a few- but I love the Jalapeno Cheddar Everything Bagel! The best of all worlds combined. The king of all bagels! I like to add scallion cream cheese to it and have it toasted- omg. So fresh. So cheesy, spicy and delicious!! The Asiago Cheese bagel is really good as well. Can you tell I love cheese? Get it toasted. They also have a jalapeno cream cheese- it's got a really good kick to it, so if you don't like spicy, steer clear. If you are looking for a sweeter bagel- try the French Toast bagel, get wild with some strawberry cream cheese on it. It's like strawberry stuffed french toast in the form of bagel. I've also tried the Contender and the Ultimate Burrito. Both are great as well! I just recently had friends in from out of town for the fourth and I picked up a dozen bagels with various cream cheese for the troops. Total breakfast MVP. I won't mince words. This place has become complacent. I don't know what they are paying their staff, but ever since they started asking for tips despite being a take-out joint, the service has gotten much worse. The main guy's heart just isn't in it any more, for reasons I don't need to get into here. I'll still give them 3 stars because the food was good the last time they felt like making it for me, but its clear now that the level of business they receive outpaces the quality of work they can reliably produce, so hopefully this review will help address that. read more

Goldberg's Bagels is undoubtedly one of the best bagels you can get anywhere in the state of Connecticut. An absolute staple located in West Hartford. The bagels are baked fresh daily. A perfect take on a classic NY bagel. A nice snappy exterior shell with a structured interior. I applaud them for their breakfast menu choices alone from their famous "motherclucker" to their Korean steak Sandwich, to their XXL breakfast burritos. Consistency on meals are a little shaky from time to time but I applaud them for providing one of the most creative breakfast menus in Connecticut. Always a smiling face and great customer service. I always have a challenging time finding decent breakfast sandwiches/take out on the weekends in the area. This weekend, I ordered take out from Goldberg's, and I had a good overall experience, which I thought I'd share. Ordering online was easy. They have a decently sized menu for a bagel shop/bakery, and items are easily customized. When I ordered on a Saturday morning and 9 AM, however, they reported the weight for two bagel sandwiches was an hour! Clearly, this had to be a mistake, right!? I called and confirmed that it was actually an hour wait for two simple bagel sandwiches!! Clearly, the extended wait time affected my impression When I came to pick up the food, the space itself was very small, and I read a sign outside that stated that they were only currently accepting mobile/telephone orders. I'm not sure if this is a new rule because of the pandemic or if this was in place even before. Regardless, take note if planning on getting breakfast here. This may have also impacted the wait time. Staff was friendly enough, and pickup was easy. I had ordered an egg and cheese bagel sandwich with a few additions, and we also ordered the Mother Clucker. The bagels themselves were great--probably some of the best in the area. The filling was a little lacking and could have had more flavor though. I'll definitely be back to Goldberg's, especially because the area is otherwise a little lacking for breakfast sandwich/take away spots. This place. Yum-E. I moved to Alaska over ten years ago and came into town to pick up my sister so we can drive down to Key West. Out of all the places we could have gone.. I went here because it used to be so yummy. Not only is it still super delicious, but it's so busy now! I was the flaky chick who wakes in and didn't know I was supposed to call ahead. It reminded me of a little bagel place in NYC. It's so busy because they are that good. They didn't have my old standby, more quicker to make to go food. Man was it worth it though. Not a great experience here. The first problem is the wait. The person taking our order was not friendly and frankly, he was offended that we didn't order online. He said "you don't get priority if you come in person.
