The Baird Farm tour is GREAT for anyone who wants to learn about the real inner workings of a maple syrup farm! Jenna gave our tour, telling us the history of Baird Farm while strolling with us (and Mavis, the Sugar Dog) down to a small grove of sugar maples strung with sap collection apparatus. Jenna explained in detail how the trees were tapped, monitored, how the sap was collected, stored and transported to the "sugar shack", which was the next stop on the tour. We had just missed production season, but it was really interesting to see all of the equipment required to make maple syrup. We learned how the season's harvest is impacted by weather, wildlife (pesky squirrels), and the skill of the people tapping the trees. We also learned how much sap it takes to make one gallon of syrup, and how many trees it takes to make the thousands of gallons of sap they collect every year (hint: it's a LOT). We briefly met Bob and Jacob too -both very kind and hospitable! And of course we ended up having a tasting before buying more syrup than we could fit in our luggage. I thought one of the ways I could bond with my first grandchild was to have breakfast with him on Saturday mornings while his parents caught up on sleep. I'm not terribly creative, so I thought waffles might be the way to go. I went to Williams Sonoma and purchased their recommendation of the "best" waffle maker in their line. With the waffle maker in hand, and wanting to make this special, I asked myself: "How can I make the best waffles without the best maple syrup?" That question brought me to Baird Farm's website. I bought a gallon bottle of the Amber Rich because I did not want to run out, and I bought a 750ml "glass" bottle of the same, because at this point, with the question of maple syrup solved, I had to make sure the presentation was right. Every Saturday morning now starts with four Belgian waffles - two for him, two for me, all topped off with the best tasting maple syrup available, ensuring that everything gets eaten! What an absolutely amazing experience! Jenna & Jacob were so great and were nice enough to give us a quick tour to see the process of making syrup even though we only called an hour beforehand. Jacob enthusiastically showed us around and was not only super knowledgeable, but a lot of fun too! He answered every question we had for him. I learned so much about the farm, the process of making maple syrup, and the history of the industry too. He's the true sugar-daddy. After the tour we tasted a few flavors and I was surprised at how different each one tasted even to my inexperienced palate. It was hard to choose one to take home, but thanks to the variety of sizes and affordable prices I was able to get a fantastic assortment of syrups. I've always been more of a honey guy with my french toast, but Baird Farm may have converted me & I'm stoked to change it up for a bit! Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area. Our family met in Grand Isle VT and traveled to Baird Farm for the Maple Syrup Farm Tour. We all enjoyed learning about the process and farm to table education Jacob gave us on the tour. Jacob's quick wit and fun inclusiveness made the tour interesting and fun. We learned that it takes 50 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup! The older trees are not tapped. As Jacob said, "you would not want to tap out grandmother tree, save it for the others"! The setting is lovely and Jenna was very welcoming and helpful when we arrived. The maple syrup tastings included were great and helped us decide what to buy. We chose the dark maple syrup and the Birch Bark infused syrup. The farm store was laid out well for purchases and gave us options and free recipes to take home. We highly recommend visiting this farm and enjoyed the drive into Chittindon, VT. I really wanted to have real Vermont syrup and not the store bought maple syrup. I also wanted organic products. I ordered a bottle of golden delicate and amber dark maple syrup from Baird Farm and it was delivered quickly to me in Seattle Washington. Packaging was great to protect the bottles. Can I just say that I am officially in love with this maple syrup? It is delicious and you can taste the maple not just sugar like you get from the store bought ones. The golden delicate is lighter in flavor just as the name described and the amber dark is more robust. I cannot wait to try the other flavors and also the infused ones. I also tried the maple sugar which is amazing ... why did I not know about this farm before? I have already bought more syrup as gifts for friends and will be a regular customer. Ten years ago, in 2013, my wife and i took a ski resort trip into Vermont from Maryland. We decided to look for someplace to visit on the way home, and looked for a "sugar shack". We stopped by and the owner gave us a tour of the processing house and described the various colors/grades of maple syrup. We were much impressed! We tasted the various different syrups and realized that the maple syrup we had been buying in the grocery stores paled in comparison to real maple syrup. We especially liked the dark/strong syrup taste (it was called by different names 10 years ago). We have been ordering ALL of our maple syrup from Baird farm ever since. We now live in Texas, but continue ordering from them. Just today in the mail we received our "care package" of 2 1/2 gallon jugs. We wholeheartedly recommend you give theim a try. read more

I've been going to the Baird Farm since I was little and it just gets better every year! Jenna and Jacob are so lovely, always happy to chat and give suggestions about their products. I also love being able to sample the different grades of syrup, even though I know which one I prefer! The new sugar house is beautiful and well stocked with all sizes of syrup and various gifts. Don't miss the maple open house in the spring - it's a chance to tour the boiling room, taste more samples, learn about the sugaring process, meet the Bairds, and see friends and neighbors. The Farm is about 25 minutes from Rutland, but it is certainly worth the effort to get the best maple syrup around and a stunning view from the little parking lot off west road. I am a connoisseur of maple syrup. Except for a dab of honey every now and then it is the only sweetener I ever use for anything, including tea, cereal, cooking, etcetera. At last I have found a farm that is organic, run by a family that I trust. Their product is the best that I have found. Their prices are also the best, especially for the quality of the product. Their service is great, and some day we would love to visit the farm. We have never met them personally but feel as though they are good friends. My wife remembers as a small child going with her dad to visit a maple syrup distillery in a small shed in the forest and tasting "maple snow"; it was one of the highlights of her childhood. As a kid I used to ride my bike from the Vt. Morgan Horse farm near the Baird Farm down to my house in Pittsford. Beautiful country side in the hills with furnace brook roaring along side. After visiting Vermont for a number of years I stumbled upon the farm when they had their open house in March. Everyone was so friendly and I learned a lot about maple syrup. Gave us samples to try, home fries to try out the ketchup, and waffles too! My favorite is the robust syrup as it tastes like buttery syrup. The farm is located on a knoll offering fantastic views. Is it wrong that I pour my Baird Farm Organic Maple Syrup into my almond butter and eat it right out of the jar? Is it wrong that I sometimes just grab the maple syrup out of the fridge and drink it straight from the jug? Sometimes I mix it with oat milk and amaretto. Go-to maple syrup for all my pancake breakfasts! And I have a lot of pancake breakfasts. One gallon might last the whole year, if you avoid making syrup wells in your pancakes like I do. Better to just buy two gallons to be safe. Also the perfect Christmas gift when you want to give something nice, but you aren't sure what that something should be. I bet you can't name one person who doesn't find this godly nectar delicious. And if somehow you find that person, then it probably just means they haven't had maple syrup from Baird Farm. They offer recipes via newsletter and email and entertaining online videos. I've visited them several times and have found them to be friendly and informative. On my last visit they gave me a tour of the processing area. Visiting Baird Farm was the best part of our recent trip to Vermont. How do you get the best Maple syrup when you live in California??? Just order it from Baird Farm. They sent us three of their 32 oz jugs of amber maple syrup, and they arrived safe and sound day before yesterday. The very next day we had maple syrup glaze on our baked salmon. Yum! SIMPLY STATING , Baird Family maple syrup will be the only syrup allowed in my pantry. No more store bought syrup. This is the freshest, purest, cleanest , syrup I have ever tasted. Jenna, one of the owners, gave us a fun and educational tour of both the the maple farm and the building where the syrup is actually made. The best part of the tour was tasting the various grades of syrup, including their specialty ones with hints of spruce and mint.
