A few days later, his father passed after losing his battle with cancer. I flew up to Oregon to help my son sort through this tragic turn of events. I tried several other estate sales people, who were booked up months in advance. I then found Carie through Yelp and gave her a call. She started out great. She promised she could have an estate sale in June. She gained my son's trust by being really helpful. She came up with a significant amount of cash for my son by selling a cache of silver she found in his father's shop. All great. However, the sale kept getting postponed until July. Sadly, it was during the fire and that added to my son's trauma. Would anyone show up with all of the evacuations? They did. There were still sales, as she does have a following. Her crew did a great job sorting through all of the stuff that was in his father's massive shop. The sale went on for a few days and seemed really busy. She sent daily amounts of the sales to my son. My son was really upset that she literally gave away so much valuable stuff at pennies on the dollar. For example, my son had a tall tool cabinet stuffed with Snap On Tools. It was worth several THOUSANDS of dollars. Her "hired" help ended up buying the whole tool kit for $700.00! Her friends got really good deals. My son found out that on the last day, she gave people a box and told them to fill it up and only pay a few dollars. He also found some valuables tucked into a corner. When he asked Carie, she said it was stuff she wanted to buy for herself. (It's still in the corner.) On the last day, she had a church show up to haul off anything that wasn't sold. My son didn't know she was going to do that so he didn't even have a chance to see what had not sold. A few days went by, with no payment. Then weeks. Finally, she admitted she was broke. My son is owed at LEAST $5000.00. She has made two cash payments of $1000.00 each. One of her former employees told us that he sold some things from the estate on eBay and gave Carie the cash. She never told us about it. My son is devastated at her betrayal and theft. We are going to seek help through a lawyer to get the money that is owed. Her personality has changed from this sweet "Christian" woman to a belligerent person who has yet to arrange a payment plan (more than generous offer from my son). We feel she took advantage of my son's grief from losing the woman he loved and his father. I do NOT recommend her. I don't trust her. I hope she reads this and realizes that we are going to seek the courts to get this settled. I don't want her to get away with stealing people's property, selling it and keeping the cash.
