The food is stellar and the chef and owner specializes in Argentinian and Italian food and it's open on Fridays for dinner (I think you need to call for a reservation). Stopped in while we were in the area and glad we did! We arrived a little before noon and were sad breakfast ended at 10, but we decided to stay for lunch. The menu is short but solid. We got the Italian sub and the turkey club, both were very good and we'd order them again. The mozzarella sticks were good, and the fries were tasty after adding a lil salt. Didn't prefer the chips, but overall a great stop. Service was fast and good, we were in and out in about 20 minutes. We'll be back! read more

Had a meeting in Marion and got to town early, texted a friend "where is the best local place for breakfast?" He responded "Baires downtown." I'm glad he did. The customer service was great from the owner on the grill conversing with everyone in the restaurant to the friendly and warm waitress that kept the coffee full and the conversation light. The food was solid breakfast fare. I wouldn't drive to Marion to get it, but if in Marion I'd do what the locals do and head to Baires for breakfast. read more

The current menu has just the name of the dish with no description. The menu on Yelp has a description, but does not include things such as mayonnaise on the muffin sandwich. Working in Marion and going out for lunch can be difficult to support locally owned restaurants. Marion has a lot of chain restaurants, but Baires isn't one of them. Our group at work go out for birthday lunches and it was my turn to pick, I picked Baires since we hadn't tried them and they also won an award at Taste of Marion in which I was a judge. Our group of seven was greeted and asked to stay at the front for a few minutes while they set up the table. We were then shown back to the table and served waters while our server came over and let us know of the specials. I had my eye on the turkey club with house made chips, the club was very good, however the chips were unevenly cooked leaving some under done on the sides, also they didn't get drained of the oil enough as there was a little pool of oil. Just a quick sitting on a paper towel would of done wonders. Everyone in our group really liked what they ordered and we agreed to come back to Baires for lunch soon. read more

A small diner that you would barely notice if you weren't really looking for it. The atmosphere is on the homey side, very friendly and fun. The food is delicious, with a decent variety, almost all of it hand-made. Prices are 1.50-8 for an appetizer and 10-17 for an entree. They have limited hours, so plan ahead. Monday-Friday for lunch, and Friday evenings for dinner. That's it. But if you are in the area it is worth the trip. read more

We were passing through town and my daughter chose this place based on pictures. We were not disappointed! We were greeted nicely immediately even though you could tell most were locals. It was a beautiful day so we got to sit outside and service was very attentive. I chose the summer lunch plate, which was a scoop of tuna (not too much mayo and lots of celery) on lettuce, with a festive pasta salad made of orzo, cranberries, salami, cheese, all finely diced. My daughter got the veggie sandwich and the chef came out to make sure she liked all the vegetables before she prepared it. She even swapped out the green peppers for avocado! My other daughter got the grilled chicken sandwich and the most delicious fresh homemade chips! If I were a local I'd be by at least once a week. My coworker and I stumbled upon Baires while looking for a spot for lunch since we were in town for work. Driving around, we stopped at Baires because it was the first spot that had outdoor seating and it was a perfect day. Right off the bat we were greeted and treated like we were regulars/old friends of everyone in the establishment. It was an immediately welcoming environment. The menu is an array of salads, sandwiches and some appetizers and entrees sprinkled in as well. Everything is homemade and you can tell thought was put in to each item on the menu. While we were making up our minds on what to eat, we were given rolls with a butter that had spring onions folded in. The perfect way to start off the meal. My coworker and I ordered the same thing - the Italian sub. We could have EASILY split it between the two of us. It was almost impossible to eat because it was so big - in the best way! I could only really get through half of the sandwich and sadly had to leave the rest since we were traveling . The highlight of my dish were the homemade chips - perfectly seasoned and crisp. I could have sat there and ate those all day. If you happen to be in Marion on a weekday and need a lunch spot, absolutely head to Baires. I have ordered take out from this place several times. It is absolutely delicious. I always get the portabello sandwich with a side caesar salad and a full order of beet chips. Make sure you get a full order of beet chips because if you do not you will be wishing you had. It is a little hard to get through to the restaurant to order. Sometimes I have to call several times to get through. I have never been to the actual restaurant so I can not say what seating and parking is like. Bares is an interesting place run by an Argentine. The food varies from very good to ok, as does the service and mood of the wait staff. The bathrooms are very very small and the decor is so so. Also, the amount of Argentine based menu items has declined over the years. read more
