Bait Shop is everyone's favorite N Capitol Hill bar/eatery. The seats are comfortable, there are often dog patrons to pet, the food is top notch (chubby friends love the wings). It totally lacks pretension without sacrificing a sophistication unique to just a few local watering holes; like a dive bar without being a dive bar. I attribute the positive atmosphere to the hands-on owners who greet regulars like old friends while multitasking, making tasty and quality cocktails (always impressed by a garnish.) The fish was great - well seasoned beer battered cod (IMO, the only acceptable fish for f&c) with a good 2 piece portion size. The fries were fine, nothing special but did the job. It's astonishing how many reviews call this place a "dive bar", unless that's an inside joke referring to the nautical theme of this establishment. These people have never stepped inside an actual dive bar. For starters, it's clean and sanitary, including inside the bathrooms. They have actual cocktails, of the stirred and shaken variety (and frozen, don't ask). Asking for a twist doesn't get you thrown out the door. The bar tenders aren't jerks. There's a kitchen and real food (which I didn't try), other than popcorn and pretzels. I like dive bars just fine, and I like this place even better, because it got the right mix of unpretentious neighborhood vibes and stuff I actually enjoy consuming. read more

My first impression hearing the name was that is this going to be one of those bar with full atmosphere of fishing equipment and etc. Apparently, I was wrong. It was pack when I got there even on a week night. The bartender was active and friendly when you sit at the bar. They hurry over and ask me "What do you like to drink today"? I'm not a beer person, but I do like well mix drinks. She got my drink done quickly with a great smile on her face. They have a good happy hour menu here, cheap beer, cocktail, and food. The ambience and nautical decor inside Bait Shop is the perfect fit for a Seattle evening, no matter the weather. The food is fresh, the drinks deliciously boozy (which is to say they don't water down their alcohol and also know how to make a good cocktail), and the service is prompt and friendly. We ordered popcorn chicken to start our (very) late dinner. I was blown away by the crispy, juicy, and zingy chicken. Every bite of the deep fried and seasoned chicken breast had the same wow factor as the first. Absolutely certain that the appetizer was the highlight of our night, we ordered the fish and chips and a burger for our mains. We were wrong. The burger was hearty and delicious, which does not mean it was greasy or soggy in any way. It was just a really well thought, made-fresh-to-order burger. The fish and chips were in a league of their own. The fish was fresh and flaky with a moist interior and a crunchy battered shell. The hand cut fries were piled high below the fish and tasted fresh out of the fryer (probably because they were), seasoned simply and perfectly. Having gorged myself on the popcorn chicken (did I mention that it was good?) , I was forced to get a box for the fish and chips leftovers which reheated to 80% of their awesomeness the next day. I am so glad that they were open late, which is rare in Seattle for a place as good as this. Despite ordering drinks and an app, the check was relatively modest and not extravagant at all. I will definitely be back, and I'll go one step further to also recommend this place to anyone within earshot! read more

Great spot, great service, great food. They have tons of seating, it's cool inside on a hot day, and they have frozen slushy drinks! I think the Painkiller is the standard and there is one rotating cocktail. When I came the rotating was a Corpse Reviver #2. Delicious, and all the notes/flavors of the classic cocktail were there, only boozy and icy. We ordered carnitas tacos (2 for $9, 1 is $3 during HH, which you can enjoy DAILY), nachos, street corn ($4), and fish and chips ($14). The fish was phenomenal, there are tons of chips to eat with vinegar of course, the pork was a little dry but with some hot sauce and lime I didn't mind it. The street corn was SO GOOD. I'm not sure how they stick so much flavor onto a cob but it's coated in cheese, cilantro, and seasoning. I didn't try the nachos, but they look good as well. read more

Amazing classy dive bar with the best servers and bartenders! My bf and I stopped in for a pre dinner drink, just so we slowed ourselves down from eating at 5pm like the true senior citizens we are. Checking out the reviews on Yelp and the menu, we were kind of bummed we already had dinner plans. Our server who self admittedly didn't love IPAs, pointed us to the best IPA I've ever had! I just had the best experience here!!! I wanted to go to a festive bar and boy did we chose the perfect spot!! This is a dive in every sense of the word. It's extremely eclectic and perfectly tacky Christmas gift wrapped pictures frames hang on the wall. Billy the bass and the mounted duck on the wall are wearing Santa hats and perhaps one of the corniest in the absolutely most perfect way was the Christmas light show that they have on the hour every hour. I could have never imagined how fun this light should was to me, until I experienced it for myself. You just have to check it out for yourself. I had the fish and chips and I was pleasantly surprised! They have a doughnut like textured (minus the sugar) batter around the fish and it was really unique and delicious. I think what made our experience particularly great was Amanda, our server. She was extremely friendly, and had wonderful energy. She was attentive and and overall fantastic server. Neighborhood Jewel that I've been coming to for years and years and years. It is truly the place, where everybody knows your name. Drinks are excellent, (I pretty much, have to do a 12 step program, to step away from their frozen painkillers from time to time ) prices are reasonable, and the staff is exemplary. Cannot recommend highly enough. Only drawback; is on busy Friday/Saturday nights it can be quite excruciatingly loud. But I just give them my business the rest of the week... I've been to Bait Shop solo and loved it. It's a great weeknight spot for good drinks and good atmosphere. I can't recommend it for large groups: we'd planned a reservation with a manager for a party weeks (maybe even months?) in advance. The night we showed up, the space was occupied by another large party. The manager on site was different than the one we'd been working with and hadn't any idea we were scheduled to be there, and the other party was in full swing and had run of the place for the night. Additionally it was crowded with other patrons, and our group put them over capacity so we were told they couldn't accommodate us and asked us to leave. They did help us identify a couple of close bars that probably had enough space, which we appreciated. Totally understand they were out of space and literally couldn't seat us, and understand the manager was just going off what they knew. Just wish we'd been able to enjoy the night bait shop like we'd hoped! Hoping a more effective communication system comes into play for big groups in the future. read more

Their happy hour boasts some tasty options like tacos! The tacos are so-so but fairly filling. Drinks? My old fashioned was about to put some hair on my chest. It was excellent. Also, on a hot summer day it's nice to sit outside at one of their tables sipping on one of their signature frozen drinks, the Painkiller. Booze upon booze all frozen with some fruity goodness and nutmeg/cinnamon of all things. Topped off with a fun umbrella and you are set! One is enough to get ya going! I really like this place. This is one of my favorite bars in Seattle, with its mighty strong tropical cocktails! The nautical-theme is awesome, and is obvious when you step into this place. My friends and I came here around Halloween and the place had spider webs all around the place. Staff is always really friendly and even though the place gets busy on Friday and Saturday evenings they do their best to check in with you. On busy nights like this I recommend getting your drink orders in as soon as you can if you're trying to bar hop or go elsewhere. There's also a smaller menu of food items. Like I said - the drinks are strong, making this an instant place to rave about. But in my last visit my friends and I ordered a large drink, the Pineapple Dream Team that was meant to serve 3 to 4 people and based off the menu it looked like it was supposed to be served from a frozen pineapple. But when we got our drink it looked like it was served in a melon, which was odd. And though the drink was good, I don't think it had as much alcohol as we thought it would've. I can't say I'd recommend it for next time. Stick with the individual cocktails and you're set. read more

My friend & I ordered that cocktail in the pineapple to share. They even gave us an extra cup with extra cocktail in it on the side because it didn't fit in the pineapple. It's the same, if anything a better value than if we ordered 2 separate cocktails. We also shared some buffalo wings & fries. Can't ever go wrong with that at a bar. I ordered the painkiller drink and an order of fish and chips at the bar. They have a very interesting food and drink menu. The painkiller is a frozen drink that tastes really good and has a nice kick to it. The fish and chips were generous. Bait Shop is a nautical-themed bar, located conveniently on Broadway. I had heard good things about the fried chicken sandwich, so I went with that. I also added bacon and grilled pineapple ($1 extra each). The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It is served on a soft hamburger bun with lettuce. I picked the fries as my side, but they also had a salad or soup of the day available. My party also ordered the burger and fish sandwich, and enjoyed them. The restaurant has dim lighting, but it works great with the theme. Seating can be tight for larger groups. This didn't impact my rating of Bait Shop, but they charge $.50 for ranch, and the principle of that frustrates me. I also visited this establishment at Christmas time. In December, they have a great light display that is synched to music. I will absolutely return. read more

Love the vibe here, super casual. I can see this being the local neighborhood hang out spot. You'll find tropical drinks on the menu that comes out in a pineapple with umbrellas and hanging monkeys on the side of your drink. They have quiet a collection of non-alcoholic drinks too for somebody like me, it luckily still comes with the umbrella and hanging monkey! Come out and try it if you're in the area, you'll be hooked...get it? Lol. It's also located in a more low key side of Capitol Hill so less crowded than if you were to be on Broadway.
