Overpriced, most of the time not customer friendly, a lot of people don't know there shit, so he gets over on most. Disassembles things that should be complete to charge for every little nut and bolt. If You're not spending on what he's recommending service goes out the window. I put 1000 miles on my roadbike, so it was time for a tune-up. I tried getting it in to a big name store, and in to a bike shop on Coronado, but both of them said they were scheduling 6 weeks out. I turned to yelp for help. Baja California Bicycles came up with great reviews so I gave them a call. They said to bring it on in, and they had many different tune up options to pick from. I arrived to a mom and pop type store that has a little bit of everything. Mountain bike stuff, BMX stuff, Road bike stuff and low rider bike stuff. I looked at all the options for tune ups and picked the most expensive one (which was $140 by the way... and WAY cheaper than the two other stores I had tried getting in to with no luck), thinking that after 1000 miles I probably needed it. I dropped it off on Saturday, and they promised it to me on Monday or Tuesday. I called Monday morning, and they said it would be done by 5 PM. About an hour later, they called me back and said I didn't NEED the $140 tune up. I only needed the $110 tune up. I am unbelievably impressed with the honesty and workmanship of this little bike shop. It would have been so easy for them to charge me the full amount, and I would have happily paid it. When I arrived to pick it up, the guy brought it from the back, and said, "she's good as new". She LOOKS brand new, and tomorrow I will test her out on a thirty mile ride. I will NEVER go anywhere else, and I will tell anyone that will listen about their work ethic and customer service. read more

Nope nope nope.. Took a set of gravel wheels to be set up tubeless. Said it would take 20 minutes. Took 80. Rear tire never sealed and the won't fix it because I didn't used his new tape? Discovered this place driving on Main St with my boyfriend to the other bike shop. Literally we drove all around San Diego looking for a 28.2 seat post and headsets. This place is definitely your one stop shop for lowrider bike parts. Not sure of the two workers names, but the gentleman in the back helped place the head set caps and seat post and took his time making sure it fit correctly as well as the lady took her time trying to make sure we left happy even though we went in right before closing. I've been going to Baja for years, He has rare odds and ends for my old school BMX builds, Jorge is a collector as well, so he knows his stuff. Recently, I got a mountain bike to ride the Otay Valley Trails in my backyard, I got some craigslist bikes for my sons to come along... I took them here to get them adjusted and tuned up. He does good work, fast and very good prices. The derailuer on my son's bike broke, so I brought it in, by the time I went to the ATM and back, it was already ready and better than before. For those that know me, I am a bicycle enthusiast. I was also a childhood super-tomboy, much to my mom's dismay, that used to ride bikes with my brothers on my own coveted light blue Sky Queen with a banana boat seat and basket that got plenty of wear and tear before I sadly had to retire it. And before they built the Pepper Tree homes in the South Bay, there used to be a goldmine of dirt hills and valleys that my brothers, their friends and I would ride up and down until the wee hours of the day until the sun set. We'd ride towards Imperial Beach to Buford's Old Fashioned Ice Cream and Candy store and feast on rock candy, frozen chocolate-dipped bananas, salt water taffy and Pop Rocks. Those were good times and I wish I could back to the simpler days where you had no cares in the world. Apparently, it looks like some things never change because I'm still an avid cycler when my schedule permits and forever a tomboy at heart. Baja California Cycle is just a hop, skip and a jump from where my parent's still reside in the south bay. When I visit them, I try to make a stop here and pick up parts for whatever custom bike my brilliant co-habby is building for myself or for himself...so far, he has 6 and I have 3...I'm halfway caught up! This simple store is small but houses plenty of parts and a good selection of fixies, townies, track, mult-speed bikes and more. Service is good although there can sometimes be a bit of a language barrier. I used my broken Spanish from high school and was able to communicate just fine with the lovely lady that helped me the other day. They also offer bike mechanic services so you will be in good hands if you are in need of getting your cycle maintained. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Thumbs up! read more

Been coming here for a while. . .but it's only now I write a review. It's way off the beaten path. . .more so that I almost got a ticket round there. . .not a big deal (I did mention "almost"). It is kinda cramped. . .but for what it is, I can let it slide. The selection of parts is great. Some of these parts I can find online, but this time I don't have to wait for shipping. and the price is close if not a weeee bit more ($1 more. . .i can live with that!). i have wpent $500 in one visit. . .and all i was looking for was a chainring. I mentioned selection. . .but the parts and even full complete bikes is there. BMX (My usual), Lowrider (parts galore), choppers (my new kick in biking), Road / track biking. Fixies, multi-speed. . .they got it here. reasonable in prices, but for convenience (the closest bike shop with better selection from me is PB), and i'm happy. Just know what your looking for. These people are really great! All about customer service. I went in yesterday to purchase a my first road bike, but they have a little bit of everything there. Not all yuppie but still very professional mom and pop store. They took the time to answer my questions and really made the sale. I was probably talking with them for nearly an hour about how to maintain the bike and what to expect for cost of ownership. They worked with me when I asked if they could throw in a few extras for making a large purchase. They even installed my water bottle carrier for free. Really good honest hard working people. By far one of the best bike shops in the South Bay. Great staff and the mechanic in the back knows his old school BMX stuff. He helped me finish my project cruiser that I had been trying to build up in an old school style but with newer parts. He started me off with a new set of alloy wheels and I took off from there. I also noticed he always tried to sell me the RIGHT parts as opposed to the most expensive parts. That helped me stay within my budget. Now I have a very aggressive looking bike that handles like a brand new off-the-show-room-floor bicycle. My bike is in fact, a little over 30 years old. Took my comfort bike rear wheel there to have the flat fixed. I was in my work clothes. When I put it back on the bike, it was out of round. Two days later, I took it back. He did a good job of getting it round. The next day, it was flat. I decided to patch it myself. When I went to take off the nut (presta), I noticed the adapter that converts from schrader to presta was missing. The tube was just put in the schrader hole with no support but the nut. I called Baja Bikes and the guy said he will look for it. When I took the tube off, I found the adapter lose in the tire. With no support, the tube was cut by the edge of the rim hole. I called the guy back and told him I found the adapter and what had happened (why the tube failed). He said thanks; I was looking for the adapter when you called. I'll buy a tube tomorrow and fix it myself. read more

I took an old bike in with shifting and brake issues and Jorge fixed it on the spot for a very reasonable price. I was in and out in 15 minutes.
