Great tasty , you will be in and out & the doubles are best I've had besides back home

Been going to this spot since it opened waaaaaaay back when I was in high school. Back then the meal special were affordable for my lil student budget. I hadn't visited in quite some years. I was happy to see they still had $5 meal specials available ( its small but back then it was enough). Prices of regular dinners are still fair compared to competitors. The food however while fresh and hot lacked the normal amount of seasonings I remembered. I was especially disappointed by the macaroni pie. We got 3 large dinners and a Peanut Punch $47 . The amount of food was justified for the price. Just wish a bit more salt was present. Our dinners had yellow rice, oven barbecue chicken, red beans, callaloo and macaroni pie . My mother in law said the salt levels were perfect for her high blood pressure dietary needs. So I guess I'll go get her food from there again. Its take out only here and the shop is small and often crowded. The Peanut Punch was great, not overly sweet and the server made it fresh when I ordered it. Service is good but slow . Cash is preferred ( there's a 4% charge for card) ATM available in the shop. read more

I had a doctor's appointment and decided to grab a double since it's usually a quick eat right after my appointment. I came here and was a little turned off with their set up. Everything his behind a glass window and all there food are hidden underneath a lid so I can't really see what good food they have. Either case, it didn't matter because I really came here for their double so that's exactly what I ordered. Asked them to add everything on it including the heat. My double came out to $2.72 (w/tax) and when I went to eat it, I wasn't impressed. Visually, it's a lot smaller then that doubles that I get at other Trini restaurants. The dough was not chewy with a good pull and the chickpeas was still hard. It wasn't cooked enough and the flavor was lacking. As for the topping, it was weak. No graded cucumbers either. Since I was left feeling disappointed from my meal, I can't see myself coming back here to try their other dishes. It's too bad considering my doctor's office is close by. read more

This place has always been my go-to spot. I like this location!! Maybe it's because it's smaller yet on a rainy day can get a little hectic . The atmosphere was super friendly, and I want to give a shoutout for their patience with our requests. We ordered a few doubles and fish broth, along with fried bake with salt fish. The roast bake looked really fluffy and delicious, but the fry bakes were a bit small. But hey, they were still tasty! As of now, they have a "B" rating. I'm hoping they'll improve on that soon. This was my first time getting food from this eatery and now I feel like a bad Caribbean person. I ordered the curry goat on okra and callaloo. I skipped the rice. I also got a small container of stew chicken because it looks so tender and juicy in all the brown gravy and it was going fast. So far I only ate the curry goat dish and it was enough for 2 portions so I ate the remainder with some rice I made at home and it was still 10 outta 10, I recommend! They have an A score which makes me feel even better about eating at this spot. They do not offer indoor dining. You literally order and go! You can suck the bones, lick the gravy dripping down your hand, and dig in with no judgement or shame in the comfort of your home! This establishment has been here for years. The fried Bake and saltfish used to be their staple but now it's their hindrance. The food sucks like on a 5/10 scale. I purchased a shrimp buss up and a bake and saltfish. It taste horrible and they put 7 shrimp in the container. 7 shrimp... you got to be kidding me. If you go to a Caribbean place and don't here "we outta dat" or "we nuh ave dat" are they even any good?!? That said, as it was West Indian Day parade day and a holiday I was surprised that they were open at all! They were out of doubles and chutney but otherwise we got some nice roti and pholourie with tamarind but nobody had curry mango in New York these days :( The food was good. The goat was well seasoned, well cooked, not chewy and definitely not full of tiny bones and gristle. The spinach was FANTASTIC and honestly I wish I'd tried some pumpkin because it looked good. My oldest had some in his boneless! chicken roti and he said it was good. The pholourie was so good I got one piece by the skin of my chin! The kids ate everything and I thought I'd ordered a ton! The boneless chicken rotis could have used more seasoning in my opinion but the goat was perfection, even without pepper sauce which I ordered and they forgot. Sigh. Overall 4/5. read more

Service was standard Caribbean take-out service (direct and to the point), but at least no attitude and they wanswered some questions about menu items (came here 3 years ago but never returned until now because of the very bad attitude and unwillingness to explain menu items to a Non-Trini, like when I asked what bake was) The boneless chicken roti: good size for large appetitive. I usually stay away from oxtails that are not made from my mom because for one, they are super expensive (they used to be a lot cheaper) and second, most restaurants add a lot of browning and it's not tender. Why bother? Well, my bf asked if I wanted some oxtails, as you can already figure, I was skeptical. He swore that I would love it so I decided to give it a try (he was paying...lol). My meal came with callaloo, macaroni and rice and peas. I have to give credit where credit is due--the oxtails were DELICIOUS. I was so surprised. The meat was falling off the bone, that's how tender it was. And I should mention that they are not stingy with the meat either. I haven't tried anything else but I'm definitely curious to sample their other meals. I highly recommend! read more

I will never go here again. I ordered a shrimp roti and my plate was full of potato and only 6 pieces of shrimp. Also the roti was hard and full of flour on the top. Check out the picture. However the customer service was okay. Oh I forgot to mention, I also got Mac and cheese. It was burnt on the top and I was only able to eat the bottom. Trust and believe it was not cheap. The best Trini place is Trinidad Golden Place. Their food is always fresh, you get large portions, the price is reasonable and good customer service. read more

I only eat breakfast items from here. Once in a while the bakes are a tad bit oily for me but I always get bake with saltfish, tamarind and slight pepper. Those 2 are necessary trust me. It's actually hard to write this review, but when people don't have good customer service, I have to say something. I've been coming to this spot since I was a teenager. My father would bring me here anytime he wanted some good Trini food. I ordered a Vegetable Roti. Anything I asked for, they gave me. When they went to wrap up the roti, it literally fell apart. One would think that the young lady preparing the meal would just get me a fresh roti skin and do it again. That didn't happen. I asked her to put it in a tin container just because it was falling apart as I said earlier. They gave me the Roti for $7.50, knowing that it was jacked up. There's a part of me that wanted to do what most Caribbean people would do and that's cause a scene in the place, but this is Covid-19 pandemic season, and we are all dealing with not being or getting what we want or deserve. The thing that made it worse was that the woman behind me got two perfectly prepared rotis and I got slop in a tin takeaway container. I'm embarrassed that I have to eat this with a fork and spoon because it's literally falling apart. I need you all to do better. read more

This is my go-to spot when I want West Indian food when I'm in the area. I usually stop through in the morning for their bakes at least 2-3 times per month. On Thursdays, the bakes are hot and fresh. I usually get the fried bake with shark or corned beef when I'm lucky; they run out pretty quickly. When it comes to lunch, I only get their roti with either chicken or beef when I don't want to deal with the bones. I always request lots of tamarind and pepper sauce with my order. My babes has ordered their other food and by the way that he tears it up, I would assume that it's also good. If you have cash and are in the mood for a roti or bake, definitely stop through here. I usually don't write reviews, but I had to this time. We took a fam trip from California to New York for vacation. As we were driving by, we saw Bake and Things and decided to stop so we got a curry goat Roti and a boneless chicken Roti. I typically don't buy Caribbean food outside because am always critiquing it with every bite due to being in a Family with great cooks. It was delicious, flavorful, and huge for the price. The next day we woke up with Roti on our minds but I wanted to be adventurous because I'm a creature of habit so we tried another spot and then the next day after we try another spot. Both places did not live up to what we got from Bake and Things, a month full of flavor. After the disappointment, it was back to Bake and Things until we left New York. The only thing that was off for us on the first visit/ stop was the customer service but I later understand that is just how New York is. It's a place where it's in and out. My mom and I were in the area visiting a family friend in the hospital and afterwards we both wanted to grab some food to go. I checked my bookmarks on YELP and said I definitely wanted something Caribbean since I was in the area for most things Caribbean. :-) Now the decisions on where to go because I had over 20 spots bookmarked to check out in the area. I checked for the place with the best reviews and chose "Bake and Things." Wow, I made a great choice because the food was slamming. When we first walked in we noticed it was a small spot but the long line indicated there was some serious good grub behind the glass enclosed counters. I laughed when I saw a sign that said "please don't be on the phone when ordering." I moved off the line and stood to the side and checked YELP for some of Yelpers favorite dishes. My mom and I were shocked there were quite few items on the menu that we had no idea what they were, LOL. (Ex. Buss up shut, dhal) Usually I am the adventurous one and try something new. However, I was too hungry and wanted something I was familiar with and could really review their food. We conversed with two customers who had two small plastic cups of different juices and learned they were given samples to try to see if they liked which was cool to know. One guy was raving about his peanut punch. (Something I will sample on the next visit. :-) I ordered the curry goat meal that came with rice and peas and the two sides I chose were the mac and cheese and cabbage for $8. My mom ordered the jerk chicken meal that came with rice and peas and the two sides she chose were the okra and spinach which she enjoyed. I was able to have two servings with the healthy helpings I received. I think I enjoyed my leftover food the next day even better than the first day. My only issue with my meal was that the curry goat had more bones than I would've preferred but I still sucked those bones because the spices and seasonings were soooo good. This is definitely a place I will check out again when I'm in the area and try one of those Trinidadian dishes and drinks that I haven't tried before read more

This is my go to spot for Roti. It's a hole in the wall, which is where you often get the best food. Roti, pholouri, and doubles are very good. They also have vegan options that are good too. I was in the area and had to stop at Bake & Things. Last time I came I thoroughly enjoyed my food. They have so many options here. I was tempted to get everything in sight but settled on feeding my stomach instead of my eyes. I ended up ordering the same thing I got last time; Only difference is I added chickpeas to my roti and a seperate side of lentil peas. The roti skin was stuffed with at least two scoops of curry chicken, pumpkin and chickpeas. Yoo this thing was heavy! More than enough for two people. The chickpeas were a bit spicy but it evened out with the sweetness from the pumpkin. The curry chicken was falling off the bone and the curry flavor wasn't overpowering. The side of lentil peas were deliciousness!! Perfect amount of seasoning, not salty at all; similar to how I make mines at home. There's a stereotype associated with Caribbean restaurants always not having anything, & this one was no different. How do you close at 2am & by 8 all you have is curry chicken, rice & peas, spinach, pumpkin & stew chicken?!?!!? Are you kidding me. I'm going to say yes. I don't know what Trini food is like but this food is so delicious and the flavor is so different than what I associate as curry. It is actually a well stewed chicken that is fall of the bone tender. The rice and beans were different than the Costa Rica type that I enjoy and I liked this type too. I really enjoyed the rice with Callaloo which is a veggie mashed and creamed. I even enjoyed the pasta side (and if you haven't noticed, I'm not a big fan of pasta.) The people there were so friendly. They gave us a try of the various specialty drinks that the other patrons enjoyed watching us try it. Are people of Trinidad normally so friendly and nice? If this is representative of those people, then yes, they are. Clean clean clean. This place is meant for take out really, but they had just about two benches for me and my honey to try their food as eat in. No bathroom. Take out. Cash. Solid 4-star restaurant as it was clean, safe and staff was attentive and friendly. Inquire for daily specials prior to coming here as well. They have authentic caribbean stewed, curry'd or jerk'd chicken, fish, pork, goat, conch and shrimp. Spinach is spiced perfectly and peas with rice were cooked just right.
