I visited last week and tried their doubles 10/10. I went back today for a curry chicken roti. It was GREAT. The chicken was well seasoned, and fresh. The roti was warm and soft, with a taste of heaven after each bite lol. The price of doubles as of March 2026 is $2.50 and the bone in curry chicken roti is $12. Great prices, with generous portion sizes. I will return to try some of their other dishes. Cool spot. I had a vegetarian roti which came with aloo, chana, spinach, and pumpkin. Everything was tasty, with a nice blend of spices, and some sweetness and heat from the tamarind and pepper sauces. The place was fairly busy on Friday afternoon, probably took me about 20 minutes to order. It came to $11 (cash only), and was nice to carry off to Prospect Park to eat when the weather was nice out. First time trying trini food and at first I was a little overwhelmed and not sure what to order. But standing in line, I listened to what everyone else was getting and decided to try a regular double with tamarind and pepper sauce ($2.50), and a chicken bussup with mixed sauce ($13). The speed and expertise of the man behind the counter was cool to watch. And the food! Omg yummmmm! The chicken curry was reminiscent of the Bengali chicken curries I grew up with. This place has been around for a while and I've passed it so many times without stepping in. As a Caribbean woman, I have to take my curry seriously. Cause not everybody knows how to do curry right but De Hot Pot is doing something right! So far I've purchased the chicken doubles and roti, boneless and with bone. And I conclude that I prefer the boneless option better. Hear me out, the curry tastes a bit different from the dark to white meat but I prefer the curry with the chicken breast. I know...surprise surprise! It just tastes a little different and personally, I prefer it. It much easier to eat without the hassle of the bones and it's so tender and juicy!! My family visited yesterday and it is clearly very popular. Being gluten free I can't participate in the roti. I did try having the spinach/ bhagi, which I did not enjoy it was bland and not not done trini style. It is a cash only spot so walk with cash or there is an ATM at the door. The saltfish ($4) was my favorite, but shrimp ($6 for any other protein) was an extremely close 2nd, followed by goat (bone-in) and beef (tender). The boneless chicken was the only one I didn't like as it was too dry. We also tried the aloo pie with channa (the chickpea curry that's in the doubles). Doubles were quite tasty, wish I asked for more spicy sauce though, could've done with a bit more flavor. The bread (probably a cross between naan and pita) for the doubles was chewy and delicious. Roti was great, there was bone in the goat but that's normal. Could've done with more flavor as well, but super big portions and really filling. Cash only! There was a line when I got there around lunchtime on a Saturday, but it moved quickly and I got out of there in no time! A very good place for Trinidadian food. De Hot Pot is another hidden place in Flatbush and Lefferts Garden. It doesn't look like much. But don't judge of course. The food is kickass and there's plenty for meat eaters and vegetarians. It has a counter to order at. It's just a very small place. There's only three tables. Most orders are carryout. The good thing is this food often is portable. Rotis are probably the most popular item. These are like wraps. Get them either with a meat or just vegetables if you like. Vegetarian ones are $9 and are filled up. In these are spinach and sweet potatoes. These are a pretty big size. Carryout is the most popular way to order because there's not much room inside. Out of all the trini restaurants I've been to, I have to say this one is my lease favorite. Perhaps their flavoring was a tad flat but some how it just tasted alright, not wow. I came here a few times already and the last time I came here was to get my double fix. For $2, their double was slightly smaller then the other doubles that I would get around Brooklyn. Their fried bread was also on the greasy end. I ate one there and brought another one home for my mom and by the time I gave it to her, I saw a lot of grease on their brown paper bag. As for the curry chickpea that they use as filling, it was watery. Barely any actually chickpeas so it just tasted more like gravy over fried bread with a dash of sweet tamarind and hot sauce. Btw, the hot sauce wasn't even spicy. As for services it's average. This place has no indoor dining even prior to covid so if you're thinking of eating in, don't bother. Highly recommend. -boneless chicken roti & beef roti: very good size, even for someone with a good appetite. The curry was a lot milder than expected, I think it could have used more curry and a touch of salt. The meat would have benefited from being cut into smaller pieces before cooking as the pieces did not have much flavor since they were large and the mild flavors did not penetrate the meat. 3/5 The place is very casual, def a pick-up and go place. Although they have 3 tables with chairs, it's practically impossible to sit there when they are busy because the place is narrow and people are lined up right next to/touching the tables. read more

This is an unassuming storefront when you walk in but what you don't realize is that it's very popular and the food is good and cheap. A popular item is called a "doubles" and it's roti w chickpeas and gravy from what I can tell. They are cheap so people order multiples of these. I got the roti w chicken and potatoes for $8 and it was so large. Very tasty w the "everything" sauce. It's a meal and a half. I saw the long line outside from the gas station across the street. I saw Yelp reviews and gave them a try. Its a tiny hole in the wall that allows 5 customers at a time and they are a cash only spot. Most of the customers were ordering doubles. I ordered chicken roti (bone in). There was a boneless option but it was all breast. When I got home I realized it was chicken backs. I've never had chicken roti with chicken backs. Its usually the whole chicken cut up. I literally paid $8 for 3 cut up pieces of chicken back. They are being cheap and sneaky. For that they get 3 stars.. The roti was good and flavorful, not the best. I ate around the chicken backs and had the potatoes and chick peas. The roti skin was thicker than I would like and had a hint of sweetness. SInce there are about 4 trini/roti restaurants in a 3 block radius and I like Ali's better I doubt if I'll return to this joint. read more

I was deterred when I saw the line leading to the front but they were moving pretty fast so I stuck it out. Of course it never fails; I reached to the food server and BAM 10 min wait for doubles. You better believe I did wait for 9 doubles with extra tambourine sauce and one with peppa. Fabulous food! My husband and I wondered in to De Hot Pot after spotting it while riding the bus. We ordered from the menu a "veg roti with four sides" for $8. This consisted of a roti with four different vegetarian sides combined in the middle. We chose channa (curried chickpeas), potatoes, pumpkin, and spinach. The combination was perfect--they meshed well together, and yet kept their distinct flavors. The sweet pumpkin was especially delicious. In addition, we shared a double ($1.50), our first one ever. This consisted of flat fried pieces of dough with channa as well as a bit of "sweet sauce" in between. The flatbread was soft and slightly crispy, yet not too oily. We left very full and satisfied. Awww man, I'm west indian and the only place to get the BEST west indian/caribbean food in the states is Brooklyn, and that is that. Not every Caribbean spot has doubles, as it is more so a Trini food, so doubles can be hard to come by. I was craving doubles and have to get doubles every time I'm in Brooklyn and couldn't remember where I used to get them growing up so did my due research and came across De Hot Pot and I am sooooo glad I did. This place serves much more than doubles, but that's all I wanted. The doubles are made fresh to order, and you can add tamarind sauce, and pepper sauce. I always get mine with all the fixings! Wednesdays-Sundays are my favourite days of the week, mostly because De Hot Pot is open and ready to feed my hungry body and soul; needless to say, Mondays and Tuesdays drag on. I live about two blocks away and was recommended by a Trini friend. Even though this is the first and only place I've had doubles from, I don't want to go anywhere else for fear of being underwhelmed. The food is all made fresh and quick, but sometimes you'll have to wait since the doubles are a popular item. It's that family joint, hole in the wall, special something that you find every once in a while and just hope Christopher Colombus' lineage won't "discover". For breakfast, I always get one or two doubles aloopie with everytin' sauce (three, if I want for the next day, and keep in the fridge). For lunch, I've tried the bone-in-chicken roti a few times and haven't found it to be as flavourful and interesting as the gaminess from the goat roti. The potatoe and chana roti is also good if you are a vegetarian, but just make sure you get everything sauce. I haven't tried the bussup yet, but that'll be for next week. Happy eats! P.S. Well well well. Just when I thought I've seen and know all the good Trini spots in New York, my family opened my tummy to another champion, De Hot Pot! Came here for doubles for my family and pholourie for me. They don't serve the latter so I decided to try doubles of which I'm not a fan. I simply asked the lady to serve me the bara (dough) and sauce which I don't mind but NO channa. I don't like hot/spicy (yeah yeah I've heard it one thousand times "what type of Trini are you!?!) and the tamarind sauce was a little on the spicy side but the bara was to die for! Just the right size, soft and tasty enough to eat on its own. The restaurant looks so unassuming and if you're not looking for it you can easily pass it by. But look closer, there's the Trinidad and Tobago coat of arms and motto on the entrance wall and inside there's more painting dedicated to T&T. Staff and customers here were pleasant and it gave me such a thrill to hear only/mostly Trini accents. My dear Watson, I do believe I've found another "MySpot". The End. read more
