Goat roti Oxtail roti Peanut drink
    Geena K.

Pretty good!! And so affordable for the massive amount of food you get! I couldn't even finish one and I was starving! I got the goat curry roti and ox tail roti! Ox tail was a bit hard to eat (kind of tough and you gotta get in there with your fingers to get the cartilage off) -- not a first date food at all. THE GOAT THOUGH! Get this if you don't mind the slight gaminess of goat. Fall off the bone! And the potatoes in these! I got the peanut punch drink (so good and peanut buttery but a bit too rich to have with the already rich food) and mauby (not as good as the peanut one but amazing to cut through the richness of the food). Next time I would just get the goat and no drink. Cash only and no seating space so we took the train like 10 mins to a mall nearby. Kind of out of the way though.

Really disappointed with my performance on the picture taking of this. Ali's Roti shop feels local, having regular customers weekly that they know by name as soon as they walk in the door. It's cash only and affordable for an incredible amount of food. They do have an ATM in the store The staff was noticeable kind and warming and made you leave with a smile. The bone in goat curry had a good spice to it and the goat itself was so juicy. Do not skip on getting the extra pepper and tamarind sauce for 25 cents each. They are IMPECCABLE. I loved both but I really loved the tamarind sauce.

This is one of those weird reviews where I still enjoy the food but I think it was better pre renovation. In the past I would and did stand on line for their exceptional doubles and rotis. Now it's good. The service has certainly improved 1000% percent. It's a cash only establishment. Since I went close to closing the line wasn't insane. I ordered the curry goat, pumpkin bust up on the side, extra hot sauce and tamarind and a side of polorri

I was in the mood for a quick, small snack and passed by Ali's yesterday. It's definitely a takeout spot but they have nice dark seating if you want to eat your food while you are there. They also have a surprisingly clean bathroom for a takeout spot, but I was in luck! There were maybe 5 people ahead of me ordering from the buffet style setup with 4 people working behind the counter, but the wait seemed long. when I got closer, I noticed one of the ladies were just standing to the side and the line was only growing. But, the woman who served me was straightforward, but explained Saheena which I ended up getting because they were out of doubles. Saheena is a fried dough with spinach- chickpeas, tamarind & pepper sauce were put in there. For $2 it's a steal, but I don't think I would get it again. The bread is thick and oily and it made me feel bloated. I want to go back for the doubles though!

I upgraded this place from 3 stars to 4 because of the service. You often don't hear "oh, that Trini shop had damn good service, the cashier was friendly, the owner held it down". The line was divided into two sections-order and pay (CASH ONLY-there's an ATM inside don't panic). The line was long but ran smoothly and efficiently and with great simplicity. Me: "Hey! Let me get two doubles, spicy with tamarind and two tings" Cashier: "Tings? Yah wan' green or pink?" I thought that was hilarious. Food was good (even tho they forgot to spice my doubles) and my Tings were icy cold and the cashier divided the food and drink in separate bags bc "Nah wan' no cold food!" I loved that... I love Brooklyn! Go here!!

It was okay. A little bit more of the curry chicken gravy would have helped. I've had better from Ali's.

Ask the Community - Ali's Trinidad Roti Shop

Is this business still open ? It's October 2021 and I still see gates shut down?

They remodeled during the pandemic and have reopened!!!!

Is this the same place that used to be on Nostrand in the 90s?

You may be thinking of A&A Doubles, which last year moved from Nostrand to Fulton St right off Verona Pl. (basically 1.5 blocks around the corner)

Do they sell individual roti skins? Do they sell the curries on the side? If so, what is the price?

    Yes and yes

Why did I wait so long to come here?!…read more I mean, I know why. It's a bit of a trek from where I live. But I'll happily travel for good food, and Trinciti absolutely justified the journey. As an Indian, I don't say this lightly. I know my Indian food. I was already aware of the historical overlap between Indian and Caribbean cuisines, but Trinidadian food fascinated me. The familiar spices and flavors are there, yet they've evolved into something entirely their own. You can taste the migration story, the adaptation, and the creativity in every bite. A quick practical note because Instagram reels had me misinformed. They do take cards. You don't need cash. Also, parking isn't exactly abundant, and there aren't many nearby places to sit with your takeaway. My advice is to grab a table and eat there. The space itself is small and pretty no-frills, so if you're coming for ambiance, this isn't that kind of place. But if you're coming for flavor, you're in exactly the right place. The setup is simple. You line up, order when it's your turn, and move things along. It's a busy spot, so a little menu reconnaissance goes a long way. The staff are efficient and patient, but they're not mind readers. Asking them whether shrimp or chicken is "better" feels like asking someone whether you should prefer chocolate or vanilla. Both are good. It depends on what you like. We ordered the dhalpuri roti, which is a soft flatbread stuffed with seasoned ground lentils. If you're sharing, ask for it not to be wrapped. Otherwise, it comes rolled up like a wrap. We filled ours with both the curried goat and the oxtail because we weren't there to play it safe. Both were excellent, paired with those comforting, home-style potatoes that soak up all the flavor without overwhelming you with spice. I also couldn't leave without trying the doubles, and we kept it plain. Oh. My. God. Flavor bomb. At its heart, it reminded me of chole bhature's distant cousin. The same comforting chickpea soul, but interpreted through Trinidad's lens with pepper sauces and chutneys that make it unmistakably its own. I honestly think the chutneys are what take it over the top. For the bake and shark though Pay first, take your number, and when they call you up, tell them how you'd like it dressed. Personally, I have a "trust the chef and give me everything" philosophy, so I said yes to it all. The result was a glorious mess of crispy fried shark piled high with pineapple, lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, and an array of vibrant chutneys that I am still thinking about. They do not skimp on the fish. Watching them assemble it from the front row is part of the fun. Before you leave, do not skip the cassava cake. The raisin dessert was a bit too sweet for my taste, but that's entirely personal and worth trying if you have a sweeter tooth than I do. They also sell plenty of snacks and hot sauces, so take a look around before heading out. One final thing I appreciated. They have a restroom and a sink stocked with soap. Trust me, you are going to get messy. That's part of the joy of eating here. If you're the kind of person who side-eyes people for eating with their hands, this might not be your scene. If you're willing to embrace the delicious chaos, Trinciti will reward you generously. I left full, happy, and wondering why I had let distance keep me away for so long. Some places are worth the drive. Trinciti is absolutely one of them.

My Trini friend was shocked that I;ve never had doubles and so this day was my lucky day. When you reach, the servers take your order along with as many toppings and additions. They also had bake and shark, bake and saltfish, and other items to choose from such as dhal puri roti, pholourie with tamarind sauce, it was my first time so I didn't go too crazy and wanted to appreciate the essence of the doubles. I would go back again. It is takeout, so don't get too comfy. Make sure you're ready to grab your order and take that first bite after you leave or reach your destination!

My must have spot!…read more The service has definitely changed since I've last visited in that the lines moved faster than before-kudos to them! I tried the BBQ chicken dinner special which came with fried rice, chow mein, and potato salad. This dish brought back such nostalgic memories of my childhood in Trinidad-LOVED every part! The BBQ chicken was well seasoned and the sauce was sweet and tangy. The chow mein was fresh and well cooked and the fried rice and potato salad were an excellent addition. If you eat the house special for memories of home, ok- I get it. For everybody else? You can do better, c'mon. The fried rice, lo mein and chow mein had identical flavor. I say this won't fly because in NYC (or even crown heights Brooklyn) you don't have an excuse. You can walk a few blocks in any direction, find a Chinese restaurant serving Americanized versions of fried rice, lo mein and chow mein, but they will be cooked better, they will taste better than the house special. I'm not saying go to Flushing etc. I'm saying even the local Chinese spots in crown heights make better versions.

My double came out to $2.72 (w/tax) and when I went to eat it, I wasn't impressed. Visually, it's a lot smaller then that doubles that I get at other Trini restaurants. The dough was not chewy with a good pull and the chickpeas was still hard. It wasn't cooked enough and the flavor was lacking. As for the topping, it was weak. No graded cucumbers either.
