We've been to baked twice while visiting Knox college. Excellent dining experience each time. They have some creative options on the menu along with the traditional create your own pizza option. We tried a more traditional pizza and a couple of their specials and everything was amazing. The crust is perfect, great flavor and crispy. The toppings are fresh and plentiful. Awesome, unpretentious pizza joint. Like enjoying the freshest-made pizza in your own home. No over-the-top bells and whistles, just fresh ingredients, funky tunes and fantastic flavors. Had the recommended "White Sausage" pizza and wasn't disappointed. Would have gone for the "Beef and Blue" but I'm not a blue cheese fan - based on the awesomeness of my choice, I'm sure it's delicious though for all you funky cheese lovers. 10in (smallest size) is plenty for one person - if you're extra hungry get the next size up! Well, I gotta say all of the reviews praising Baked are pretty much right-on. It's a very cute, hipster-type place with fantastic service, a really unique atmosphere, and delicious food. THINGS TO KNOW: -There is no dedicated parking lot. There's a lot of street parking and a nearby free Galesburg downtown parking lot. You may end up walking less than a block. Not bad. -Since it's very hard to find the menu, I'll tell you: Baked basically serves a ton of various pizza options. They have some dedicated daily options (such as their Deep Dish) and other gourmet specialties, and they have salads as well. They have canned sodas as well as canned/bottled beers. They also have "daily specials" which are unique, daily pizza flavors that they feel like making that day. -They DO NOT have the Angel food cupcakes spoken about in length here on Yelp. -They DO serve breakfast options including double chocolate french toast. (I want to try it!) -They also do carryout orders. -A deep dish pizza was take 30 minutes to cook, so be prepared for a wait. -If you buy soda, expect it to come in a single can. No free refills here. -You pay for the food when you order it - not after it's been served. Their system (Square, I think?) on a tablet asks for a tip when you pay. This means you'll either need to pre-pay for a tip before you're done with your evening or you'll need to be prepared to have cash on you to tip however much you want. PROS: -Atmosphere is very, very cute and unique. There is older music (Beatles, etc.) playing off a turntable across a sound system. (You can even hear the unique static!) The tables are various mismatched diner decor. Napkins are kept folded up in mason jars on tables. Vinyl sleeves decorate the shelves on the walls alongside a giant decorated chalkboard. Lots of cute decorations here. -Lots of seating options. There is a three-person table outside. The inside includes lots of four person tables. I could see this place feeling a bit crowded during rush hours, but for the most part, most of the tables have enough space around them. -Deep dish pizza was delicious. It wasn't a Chicago-style, and it never claimed to be, but the crust was super delicious and soft, and the toppings were good. The majority of the pizza was the crust aspect of it, but it was really, really good. Affordable too. -We ordered a deep dish pizza. The employee was really upfront about it taking 30 minutes as he didn't want us to be in a hurry. I appreciate it when servers let you know about waits ahead of time. -Staff was super friendly too. They didn't rush us when we were ordering, checked in on our table often (even though we didn't need refills or anything), and were generally really friendly and helpful. Great help. CONS: -Wasn't very fond of the garlic bread. Noticeably full of various herbs and much too crunchy for my taste. Their accompanying tomato sauce was definitely good though. -Very edge of the crust for the edges of our pizza were black and burned. Didn't eat those. Still way more than enough pizza, but I just wasn't fond of how it looked on the slices. Would definitely come back. This place is a unique gem that I'm surprised to find in Galesburg. What a great addition to the 'Burg! Hell - this place would be a great addition anywhere. Don't think for one second that you're going to get a pizza like this anywhere else in town because you're not. I had a love/hate relationship with Alfano's back in the day. That was what pizza in the 'Burg meant during college. This is most certainly NOT like Alfano's. A side note - the cheese sticks that Pete made back in the 80s still rank as the best cheese sticks I've ever had. From what I gathered by reading the previous reviews they used to have seating for maybe a dozen. Since the acquisition of the space next door they have added quite a bit of capacity and have moved up to being an average size restaurant for the area. Cross that concern off your list before you read the older reviews. The pizza is sublime! I had a combo off the board that was basically sausage and onion but offered as a white pizza. Minus the tomato-based sauce and plus a garlicky olive oil concoction instead. Ever eat escargot? Love dipping a piece of bread into the garlic butter that bubbled out during cooking? Almost the exact same flavor for the undercarriage of this pizza. Add in fresh onions and house-made sausage (which could use a bit more fennel seed but was still delicious) and you've got a great meal...especially those bites where the dough bubbled slightly and the sauce caramelized and crusted over. Stopped in randomly with my wife while in town visiting family and friends for Thanksgiving. Old school feel, very sparsely decorated but with a vintage feel. Miles Davis record playing on a turntable was a definite bonus. We came to eat though so back to the pizza. Excellent, crisp, airy, delicious crust. We had slices of the sausage, and the punks tomato. Both were excellent, served piping hot, and we wanted more. After a few hours later we headed back and had two more sausage but added fresh garlic and it was as good as the first time if not better. Very simple and small menu, mostly takeout but there are a few vintage stools and an old ironing board counter. We also had the spinach soup and it was tasty too. This place is the most amazing pizza I have ever encountered in my life. Let's not even begin with his topping combinations that are laudable and talk about just the crust. It is chewy yet crunchy. It is perfect. The thickness is perfect. It is not the cracker crisp of a thin but does not have the overpowering heft of a pan pizza. It is not greasy and folds well for the perfect hold. His toppings are amazing. He changes the menu based on what is fresh, available and in season. The day I went the special was a grapefruit, arugula, tomato, goat cheese. Your first thought is ewww. I thought if he is brave enough to sell it, I am brave enough to try it. It was inspired. The flavors worked together perfectly. Everything was fresh. No one flavor overpowered the others. Then I tried a slice of the sausage. The sausage is house-made and the balance of fennel and meat was spot on. I am normally not a fan of sausage and I was in love. I then turned my attention to a slice of spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. Garlicky but not too much. I honestly could have sat there and ate pizza all day. Service was great but this is a one man shop. You might have to wait. He does a good job of having a variety of slices available but if you are ordering a whole pie don't be surprised to wait. It is worth it. They also seemed to do a brisk carry-out business so call ahead so it is ready and waiting. I normally do not focus much of my reviews on ambiance but this place is tiny. Like 10 chairs tiny. This is not a bad thing, it really adds to its charm. One counter faces directly into the kitchen so you can observe the cooking and talk to the cook/owner. There is a record (yes, I said record) player and crates of albums so the customers can change and listen to different music. It smells like pizza crust. Do yourself a favor. I had to delete and write a new review for this business and here's my reasoning... I upgraded this place from 3 to 4 stars because I recently switched over to a vegan lifestyle. Not only do they make wonderful vegan pizzas but they are ok with the consumer bringing in toppings such as vegan cheese to add to the menu item at no extra charge and no quarrels. They want their customer to love their food and leave feeling like they are welcome. The service didn't change since my last review because they've always been extremely friendly. The difference is the selection they offer as opposed to some of their in-town competition. Now they my dietary restrictions have become "a thing" I have a greater appreciation for not only the service and food quality (they've always had the best crust) but for the accommodating menu and attitude. read more

If you're up-tight and lame, don't come to this laid back, funky little place. They play their LPs on an actual turntable! Previously, I'd overlooked this little gem due to the lack of seating. Well, I guess they obtained the building next door, because they have a dining room now. The pizza is fantastic....and I'm picky about my pizza. We sampled the thin crust and the deep dish. Both were very very good. The ingredients used tasted fresh and delicious. My wife ordered their salmon pizza from the local CSF (community supported fishery) that flies the fish in from Sitka Alaska. I was skeptical, but it was great! Recently moved to this part of the state from Chicago, looking for Chicago quality restaurants. Downtown Galesburg has it in "Baked". Went straight for their deep dish pizza and it did not disappoint. It is not a traditional Chicago deep dish but their twist on it is admirable. They also do a bit of a caramelized cheese crust, a tiny bit reminiscent of what the late Burt Katz did at "Burt's" up north, nice touch. And the pork sausage on the pizza is really nice. Their garlic bread is superb. Their prices are very fair also considering they have such an excellent product. Very eclectic decor, inside and out. Super nice people working there and service is excellent whether you pick up or dine there. read more
