Dr Crum is excellent | great care Our 20 month old had a red rash around his mouth after he came in contact with avocado and chickpea foods. We were referred by our pediatrician to come here. The staff is excellent here. We arrived early for our appointment, filled out 4 pages of paperwork (took 5 min), and was seen within a 5 minute wait. Jonah took down our information and checked our 20 month old's vitals. After that, he gave my son a toy airplane while we waited for Dr Crum. Doctor Crum is excellent. He's very knowledgeable and explained to us what he was planning to test our son for: chickpea, green pea, and avocado. Five pricks total though because we had to have the control and saline. The pricks don't pierce the skin or cause bleeding. They're small too. Jonah was quick and our toddler did very well! A team of 3-4 other staff members came in to check and measure the results on his back. This was all very quick, so we waited about 15 min total. Thankful that our son was showing negative results to all of the testing! Dr Crum gave us various creams to treat any future contact dermatitis flare ups. The whole appointment was very straight forward with friendly and knowledgable staff. I would recommend this place to anyone who experienced asthma or allergies. read more

Don't waste your time coming here if you have food sensitivities, the provider didn't even mention it as a possibility when I was telling a detailed account of my reactions. The person over the phone misinterpreted what I wanted to come in for and the provider (who came in late) spent the whole appointment telling me I don't have the disorder the receptionist wrote down (yeah, I know that). No **allergy**, no follow up. Dingy rooms with screaming children. My primary care practitioner said this place sounded "bad" when I told her what happened, prompting this review. I've been a patient for several years now. The nurses are cool with the shots, they tend to take their time and make sure the patients are not being abused. I take allergy shots every two weeks, I"m that guy! I'm allergic to cats, dogs, dust, trees etc etc etc.. Allergy shots are regular injections over a period of time -- generally around three to five years -- to stop or reduce allergy attacks. I have not had an attack in over 4 years, so It's working!!! The staff is somewhat fluid. Every few months I notice new people in the office. However the nursing staff tends to be long term. Thanks for the care! read more

We found Baker Allergy & Associates about 4 years ago. The doctor conducts an allergy test to ensure allergens associated with living in Portland are included in the custom serum for you. The shit clinic provides appointments every 15 minutes to manage allergy injections. The process is quick and easy. Treatment for allergies then requires a 30 minute wait before being released. The shot clinic is open M-Th, closed Fridays and open a 1/2 day on Saturday mornings. The waiting area is clean, chairs are set up, soft music plays in the background. I appreciate they don't allow phone calls in the clinic and I have seen the staff gently remind those who don't abide by their request. If you need to take a call, you can step into the hallway where there are also seats. There has been quite a bit of staff turnover through the years. Additionally, four years ago they address both allergies and dermatology, but the dermatology doctor retired and they stopped providing dermatology care. They do provide referrals to other clinics. read more

Called to get our daughter tested for bee allergies since we're getting a bee hive. They knew why we were coming in but once we got there they said they could test her but won't since it hurts. Then spoke to us for half an hour about school and other non related medical issues, most likely so they could bill us. I asked if we could get her tested for food allergies or intolerances while there so we're not wasting our money but they just said no. This appointment was seriously just like shredding money and we took our daughter out of school for it. I've never been so disappointed and upset after a medical visit. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Our case didnt require a lot of testing but Dr Baker was great at explaining my child's rash and what we should do about it. He seemed very knowledgable and up to date on current studies/thoughts. He took time with us, and the nurse gave us a print out with clear instructions that i can refer back to. I feel confident we have a plan now. Dr Baker and his RN Jennifer are literally my lifeline. I see Dr Baker for a rare immune disorder with treatment that is hard to navigate. I am an RN myself and I cannot imagine getting through my infusions without Jennifer as my case manager. Dr Baker is thorough, intelligent, up to date with evidence based practice, and one of the most compassionate humans I have ever met. He's been available after hours to guide other practitioners in my care. As for the office staff and clinic nurses, I couldn't ask for better care. My youngest son (16) has a shellfish allergy as well as moderate environmental allergies. He had not had any formal testing until recently. His anaphylactic reaction to shellfish was when he was 5 and the same care was given to my son as well. His appointment was hard on him and he was treated with kindness and compassion. UPDATE: I am now seeing Dr Mary Maier in the clinic with Dr Baker as back up (she has more experience with patients like myself). Dr Maier has been just as wonderful! I've recommended this office to 2 physicians, multiple friends, my massage therapist, and chiropractor. I'm repeatedly frustrated by this clinic and the way they treat patients like a piggy bank. The clinic refuses to bill my insurance for covered treatments and charges us more for the treatment than is contracted with the insurance company. Additionally, their customer service is appalling. I understand we have to pay a copay but the way the clinic demands this at each appointment is uncaring and unprofessional. Then, we have to see about four different people in the clinic answering the same questions repeatedly, which feels like the clinic's way of getting more billable hours for insurance. I saw Tara Pemberton the other day for some fun eczema, etc., she works with allergy and dermatology - I really liked her, she was great! I went back and forth with her nurse (Jessica) today on the phone about whether I wanted topical or oral antibiotics. Jessica didn't seem so patient and seemed somewhat annoyed that I was trying to make an informed decision, hence, I'm not a fan. I wish you could give 3.5 stars, but you can't so I rounded down! When I lived in the southwest, my allergies were pretty bad. When I moved to Oregon, they became life-altering destructive. Nothing short of knocking myself out with Benadryl and locking myself in a super-clean air-conditioned room would do. At times, my allergy attacks were so severe that I had to pull my car over on the highway to rest with the AC on full blast for my eyes, nose, and throat to calm down long enough just so I could get home. I felt that allergies were becoming a liability, not only to me but to caring for my small children. Enter Dr. Baker's office. My allergies were diagnosed in a single office visit and I was presented with treatment options, including immunotherapy. I've been a patient for at least 8 years and I can't imagine surviving living in Oregon without them. They manage both my allergies and asthma, and when I have allergy-related skin conditions, help with that, too. They've also helped diagnose and manage my children's allergies to all nuts and sesame. Staff is friendly and helpful, attentive and prompt. No complaints with how my insurance has been managed and the health care has been great. My only complaint, and this isn't necessarily specific to this office, is that I've been irritated with the processes put in place due to COVID-19. The shot clinic was closed for 7-10 days without warning to patients. When it re-opened, I was past my timeframe for a shot, so I was dialed back on my treatment plan. Because they were only scheduling appointments every 28 days, I wasn't able to increase my dosage. Also, they had us wait in the car, rather in the waiting room, after shots which was frustrating because outside is where the pollen is. I understand people were doing the best they could with surprisingly fast change, but it also seems these are circumstances they could've thought through with better outcomes. Aside from that, though, I've been very pleased with my care at Baker Allergy & Asthma, and I have recommended them to many others. read more

Dr. Baker and his entire staff are incredible. They have dermatology in the office but are also experts with allergies. Our son had very serious and life-threatening allergies and Dr. Baker placed him on a special nut desensitization program. After only a few visits, our son is able to eat nuts with no reaction whatsoever! He is a pioneer and his research and is a wealth of knowledge. I encountered so many parents whose kids have allergies and are not even aware that this type of therapy exists. Definitely recommend this office for any dermatology issues and especially for allergies. read more

Baker Dermatology is PHENOMENAL. They were probably the 4th or 5th dermatologist I'd seen about my eczema. Usually I am hurriedly prescribed medicines without much explanation, and often I feel like my dermatologists don't really want to learn about what I'm experiencing. Not so with Amy Nolfo and the other practitioners at Baker Dermatology. Ms. Nolfo treated me not only respectfully, but like she actually cared that I have this skin problem. She was determined to get to the bottom of it, and offered all kinds of different suggestions (giving me samples before having me buy the medicine). She then did a patch test, which other doctors talked me out of, and it turns out I do have an allergy that could be causing the problems. The other medicine she prescribed was explained to me in detail, including how to use (and not overuse) it. At Baker Dermatology, I feel confident that they are extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and most important, determined to figure out what's wrong and how to fix it with the least amount trouble/side effects. I truly felt important and cared about here. I LOVE this place, and I highly recommend it to anyone suffering from stubborn skin conditions that other doctors have treated like a mystery or a nuisance. They will not treat you like that at Baker. read more

I have nothing bad to say about the care I received from Dr. Fukuji. I have been battling severe allergies since I was a kid and she was the first DR to suggest a Nasal CT after she found polyps. I feel like she really took her time with my history and opened the doors to a possible solution to my case. She gets 5 stars. The billing coordinator and front desk staff were less than pleasant. When I called and made my first appointment I asked what my benefits would be or how I would go about figuring out my coverage. The receptionist told me she could look it up and reported my deductible was met for the year and that my co-insurance would cover up to a %. A month after my appointment I received a bill that stated otherwise. When I called and spoke with the billing coordinator and explained what happened she accused me of being dishonest and claimed that reception probably wouldn't have checked my benefits. I told her the name, date and time of who I spoke with and she apologized for the mistake. I explained how had I known my benefits I would have never came in and that it's unfair I am being charged the full price because I had called to ensure this wouldn't have happened. She didn't care and told me to call my insurance next time. It's sad they don't care if their mistakes cost patients hundreds of dollars. I will not be returning to this office because it's clear that they care more about the $$$ they make than the care of the patients. read more

Let's just say this. I am pretty sure Dr. Baker and his staff were sent straight from Heaven, and that is not an exaggeration. I have been a patient since 2007 and it's high time I wrote I review. Do people go on Yelp for doctor recommendations? I sure hope so, and I sure hope that if you're reading this, you'll consider making an appointment with Dr. Baker, if you need to see an allergist/dermatologist. Dr. Baker has set up a number of clinical studies to treat an incredibly rare condition, Hereditary Angio Edema. I happen to have this condition. Dr. Baker has literally saved my life. I started a clinical trial in 2007 for the medication I am currently on, and with his help (and the help of his incredible nurses), I was trained to give myself an IV infusion at home. Myself. It is amazing. During the clinical trial, I would have HAE attacks that required immediate treatment. This happened most often at night, and Dr. Baker was on call, as were his nurses, to come to the clinic to give me my infusion when I had an attack. There he was, at 2am, without a complaint, happy to see me. The man is legitimately one of the best people I've ever met. Same goes for his nurses. I owe them everything. I really do. I gave birth to a healthy baby girl four years ago, thanks to the clinical trial medication. And I'm healthy today. I see Dr. Baker a couple of times a year. And it's always a pleasant experience. He takes the time to talk to all of his patients in depth. He's never in a hurry. He knows EVERYTHING. The man is brilliant. So are his nurses. What happens when you've got the best specialist doctor in the city of Portland? In the state of Oregon? In the WORLD? You experience life as it is meant to be experienced - free from pain, and with a positive outlook. When I think of my experiences at this clinic, I tear up. We've come a long way. I am a brand new patient. On my first visit the young woman at the front desk completely ignored me to keep speaking with the other co-worker that she was already talking to. After a few minutes, the other woman actually had to tell the front desk person, 'I think there's someone here to check in.' She then turned, took my insurance card, couldn't get the copy machine to work, kept stopping to answer the phone, and complained that she didn't have enough help up front. Finally, after about 5 minutes of this, the other gal she had been talking to went off to find the other ladies that were apparently supposed to be up front. The young woman who helped me was clearly incapable and overwhelmed. When the other two came up front, one of them asked me to sign in even though I already had. The young woman finally got the copier to work and then thrust a web cam in my face saying that they needed a picture for my file. Checking in took far longer than it should've, and it was a completely unwelcoming experience. Shortly thereafter several other patients came in, and each one of them was called back before me, even though I was the first to arrive. I realize this is probably because they were seeing other doctors, but one of the office staff should've checked in with a new person. Instead, they were too busy chatting with each other and ignoring everyone to bother. On my way out (through a different area), there was another young-ish woman who was chatting with a co-worker. She didn't even look up or acknowledge me when I walked past. As I was trying to figure out if I needed to speak with her or if I could just leave, I must've looked confused enough to finally make her stop talking, look up (vaguely annoyed at the interruption) and say, 'Do you need to make a follow up?' I quickly said no, and left. No goodbye, no 'Have a nice day', nothing. The only redeeming thing about the entire visit was the actual doctor. Otherwise, the young women office staff made this new patient feel completely unwelcome and invisible. I don't want people to kiss my feet or anything, but some common courtesy would be nice, particularly if that's your job. read more

I have gone to Doctor Baker for my allergies for years. He is one of the best doctors I know. He listens well, answers questions, and is very up to date on new research. His physician assistants are great. This year I started going to the dermatology side of the office as well, and they are also excellent. They got me in right away for an emergency appointment this summer and educated me on how to deal with my new issue. read more
