I really wanted to like this office. I like how they took me on the same week as a new patient. I was ok with doc, I'm not picky. I just expect them to listen to me. I did not like how they started to act when I asked to see specialist of my choice. Assistant asked doc if he knew specialist. He said no, but he knows the one he was referring me to. Thank goodness for Yelp and Google reviews I was able to search the doc that he was referring me to instantly, and I did not like what patients said about her. Really, I was gonna give any specialist a chance, but also had one in mind. The specialist of my choice had not yet received my referral, called this office and they said that there was no referral for me on file. So now she has to go over with assistant and they will call me in another 3-4 days. I know this is not a big deal for any of the staff here, but I'm not feeling well. I've never had any issue with Dr. Baker or any of the providers in the office. He is knowledgeable, his bedside manner is solid, and I always get the feeling that he genuinely cares for his patients. But I will echo what has been previously mentioned by other reviewers. The issue is with some of the administrative staff. One area where incompetence needs to be non-existent is within the department that deals with the coding and billing of insurances and all that that entails. Assumptions about whether or not an insurance company is going to approve or disapprove a particular prescription or medical procedure is not for that individual to make. In this case, one of the staff assumed that they knew that a particular insurance was going to deny, or even give push back, regarding a particular medical procedure that was ordered by the doctor, so that individual didn't even bother to push the referral forward. Rather, they assumed that they knew everything about how the insurance company was going to respond, thereby withholding the referral request and prolonging what may very well be a life-altering test. Playing God in this manner is not for any staff member to do. They are there to do a particular job without bias, as should anyone employed in any capacity in the medical community. This should be important for anyone who is seeking a provider for their medical care. This is just my experience, and everyone seeking medical care must make those decisions about whom they see for care themselves. Dr. William Baker has 3 other MD's working for him. Two,(?) maybe more PA's from awesome school. Dr. Baker formally owned Bakersfield Thrombosis Center which was brought by Dignity Health. Yes Dr. Baker is also a thrombosis specialist. His office is very modern. Beautiful waiting room. Large screen TV, green plants etc. At building across street from the Bakersfield Heart Hospital. He is part of the Central Cardiology group(CCMC) with like 7 cardiologist, tho those cardiologists works in a different building. There are many exam rooms and PC's everywhere. Lots Med Assistants. A very Modern facility with Top Notch Internist. They research many, many things new in medicine medical care. If you have old parents. Having an internist that treats all facets of medicine as well as being a top Thrombosis specialist is benefical. Dr. William Baker, Dr. Patrick Daley.... About 25 years each in medicine. Research around. These are smart doctors. Office do not accept HMO's. Great doctors and dentists often pass on HMO's. They do accept Medicare billings. BTW. In the same building is Dr. Jasleen Duggal's practice. One of Bakersfield's very few Endocronoligist. She comes here from a top position at Los Angeles Cedar Sinai Endocronology. Both Dr. Baker and Dr. Duggal and Dr. Daley(also sports medicine expert) are my physicians. And Im a serious Yelper. I wish I could leave less than one star. We see Dr. Janice Knowlton here, and it's probably one of the worst decisions we have ever made. Don't make your appointments with her unless you have a few hours to spare. We typically wait at least an hour and a half to be seen, just for her to ignore what we tell her and then just pop another prescription on us and run. She's extremely overbooked, she'll have 5 patients at the same appointment time which doesn't give her enough time to actually listen to her patients. read more

Giving them 4 stars because the doctors here really do care and they are good at what they do. The problem is with some not all of the office staff. Within that dept we have a major slacker that can't seem to do her job properly. We have been up all night due to my wife not getting her medicine. read more

I've been with Dr. Baker's office for years and was referred here by a co-worker who raved about them and I have not been let down once. Walk-ins are not accepted but they do everything in their power to set a same day appointment read more

My son broke his fibula playing football. I couldn't get him into an orthopedic, because no one would see him. The athletics director at his school referred me to Dr. Baker. Within 30 minutes we were sitting in his waiting room....and he managed to get my son seen by an ortho first thing the next morning. After the day I had, dealing with the stress of my son having a broken leg, not knowing if he needed surgery to repair it and none of the ortho drs the urgent care referred us to would see/access him.... the care Dr. Baker & his staff treated us with was so overwhelming that it brought me to tears. I would recommend Dr. Baker to anyone and everyone. I feel blessed to have his as my son's Doctor. His kindness, care and generosity is not easily found. read more

Dr. Baker is a great doctor. I have never felt so cared for by any doctor in my life. He is 5 stars. The staff is only 3 stars, however, if you need an outstanding doctor do your body a favor and chose Dr. Baker. read more
