If I could give 10 stars I would! From the moment you walk into the office you are given exemplary customer service. The front office staff was kind and friendly from the get go and welcomed us into the office. It was my first time in, and when my son was brought back they gave me a tour and reviewed what would be taking place during his examination. I returned to the waiting room (very clean and comfortable) and waited for the duration of his checkup. When my son was finished they brought him up to the lobby- he was smiling from ear to ear, thrilled with his goody bag and headed straight to the game area. This part is very important! The doctor (Dr. Abby) took the time and sat with me, reviewed X-rays, and went in depth about the treatment my child would need- AWAY FROM MY CHILD. We have been to offices before where they blurt out what needs to happen and it's very scary for little listening ears. I appreciated this small detail so much. From that point, I waited a few minutes until the treatment plan was ready, it was reviewed with me at the counter (again my child was busy playing games so he wasn't involved in the adult stuff) and then the next appointment was made. From start to finish I cannot express how wonderful of an office, and experience this was. A dental office can be a scary place for a kid- but at Sturz & Abby they were made to feel comfortable and safe. I will be returning for all dental needs. read more

If you are lucky enough to get in with Sturz and Abby(not sure if they are taking new patients), do not hesitate! We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dr. Chad (Abby). The staff is always kind and attentive, the office is immaculate. Every few years I leave a review. Who has time? Once in awhile a business goes so far above and beyond that I truly feel duty bound to share my experience. My 9 year old daughter has been complaining of some pain in her gums for a few weeks. Today I happened to be close to Sturz & Abby, so we walked in. I was expecting them to move our appointment up from next month. Instead they brought us back right away, diagnosed and treated the problem, and didn't even charge us. My 8-year old daughter went in for a procedure with Dr. Kurt Sturz, little did me know that it was going to cause post-traumatic effects. Apparently, she wasn't compliant with the procedure and refused to open her mouth. He called in more help to hold her while telling her she was being rude for crying and acting scared, which is a completely normal response to fear. Without listening to her or call me in, he kept making her feel bad about crying. After the procedure was done, she asked to go to the restroom , which he denied until he was able to talk to me, her mother. He kept demeaning her telling her how disappointed he was in her and how dissappointed I was going to be as well. He also told her that she wasn't going to receive any toys because she has been bad! Do I have to mentioned how badly handled this was? This whole event crushed my 8-year-old. When I finally got to talk to my daughter she was in tears, she couldn't stop sobbing and she was so scared and scarred by this whole event . I'm so dissatisfied and disappointed in him. We, parents, put all our trust in professionals like him, specially when we are not allowed to go in with our children. My heart aches every time my daughter remembers this experience. If you're looking for a place to handle your little one with the best care, look no more. My 27 month old chipped a decayed incisor tooth, this happened on a weekend so I immediately emailed the facility and Dr. Sturz took the time to read through my panicked, long novel of an email (I've been so stressed about this and rambled quite a bit about all my concerns ) I received a call right away the next business day answering all my questions, not only did he take the time to personally call me and go into clear detail about the best approach to fix this without the fear of serious sedation, or a traumatic experience, he assured me this was the best route for my little guy. Now I know as a mother and parent it's extremely hard to not be in the room with your child and to hand over your little one without being present , but this is where entrusting professionals like Sturz and Abby's team to do their job come into play. I agonized over this appointment, absolutely terrified my son would not cooperate and be scared. To my surprise, he went right back with the dental assistants and not even ten minutes later Dr. Sturz was done holding my little guy. I honestly feel kids do better without parents, it's also great to promote independence as difficult as it may be to not be there, it was fine for us. I'm still amazed, thankful and forever grateful for the amazing care we received today. I have seen probably 5 other pediatric dentists in town for options and no one compares to this facility. They are the highest level of professional & are hands down the most skilled and caring with little ones and children. Thank you for much for easing this worried Mom's fear today and for fixing my sons tooth. The funniest part of it all, my son cried to leave! I wanted to update my review- We went back this morning and this was my sons first time going back alone...he did so well!!! The night before, he was very nervous so I kept telling him how he would be fine, going over his past visit and how much he loved it and told him to be positive. The office staff spoke to him and were so friendly. He walked back without hesitation. Sure enough, at the end of his apt., he came out with Dr. Sturz holding his hand and smiling so big!!! Dr. Sturz talked to me about his cleaning in detail and talked with my son as well. We have Delta Dental, and our insurance recently stopped covering this office (and many others) fully, and we will gladly pay the cash to continue to have my son as a patient there. He literally won't stop talking about the dentist. We will have our baby girl as a patient in the future too! Definitely recommend Sturz and Abby!!!! Dr. Sturz is amazing. Staff is very friendly. The waiting room is clean. I feel that everything is explained to me by the doctors. The nurses are kind and welcoming to my twins. They have no fear coming here. Our twins are 8 and autistic and finding a local dentist has been hard. When I called about making an appointment the front staff was reassuring and answered all my questions, they even scheduled their appointments right before lunch so that there would be fewer people in the building. I needed two appointments on separate days, because new environments are challenging for my boys and this way I could focus on one child at a time. We saw Dr.Abby. He came out to the waiting room and introduced himself and talked to my son, explained what the next steps were and what we were going to do. As predicted we had to use the board (papouse, not sure of the spelling) and my son calmed down instantly. He loves tight squeezes and hugs so being wrapped tightly was of great comfort to him. I was able to stay in the room and discuss treatment. My son isn't very vocal and can't speak for himself, so this was very reassuring for me. The dental assistants were quick, caring and very kind to us. A few days later I brought my other son in and the same thing, Dr. Abby talked to my son and explained what always going to be done and everything went smoothly, again. The only thing I didn't like was they aren't in network for my insurance. That's ok, I'm please to pay out of pocket for such amazing and caring dentists, and staff. read more

Dr Sturz is impatient and flat out rude to children who are nervous. My son was 4 when we first brought him here. He is an anxious child but did everything Dr Sturz told him to do although he did cry. Dr Sturz rolled his eyes and sighed several times but promised that if my son did a good job that he would be able to get something out of the treasure box. When it was all over, my son asked about the treasure box and Dr Sturz turned to him and harshly said "you don't get the treasure box because YOU CRIED". I was stunned. He didn't scream. He didn't throw a fit. He simply cried. In what world is it not okay to cry? I cry. I'm an adult and sometimes I have emotions. So, we're punishing kids for having emotions now? I explained to the office that he had diagnosed anxiety and we were working on that but he was so brave and did everything he was instructed to do. How dare Dr Sturz tell my child he wasn't good enough because he showed emotions. I've talked with other moms about my experience and know we're not the only ones this has happened to. After that we refused to see him and instead saw the amazing Dr Sanjeeta. She told me to bring my son randomly for two weeks before his next appointment so she could walk him around the office and make him feel comfortable. And it worked! When it was time for his next appointment he breezed in and went straight back there without me (because this office doesn't allow parents in the back with their children...probably so Dr Sturz can berate them and lose his patience without parents seeing). My daughter also loved Dr Sanjeeta. Well, I went to make another appointment and turns out that Dr Sanjeeta left this office (no surprise there). I was told that because my daughter was only seen by Dr Sanjeeta and not Dr Sturz or Abby that she was considered a "new patient" and they weren't accepting new patients so she would have to be seen by Dr Abby who is now out of network because this office can't keep their contracts with insurance companies and only have these two dentists now. I was floored. My children have been going here since they were born but now one of them is a new patient because you can't keep good dentists in your office or contracts with insurance companies? Such bs. The BEST part is that I found out that Dr Sanjeeta has moved to Bakersfield Kid's Denistry on Allen road, she IS in network and accepting new patients. Her office got us in the next week, they had two chairs in one room where both of my kids could have their cleaning done at the same time AND I was invited to sit back there with them! It was like night and day. They watched cartoons on tvs on the ceiling and before I knew it, it was over and painless! read more

No x-rays were done in our 4 visits, something about how they don't do x-rays till child is 3-4 years of age. read more

I hate to write this review because we used to really like this dentist office however they have not been able to manage insurance contracts and therefore we keep getting tossed around last minute. My three year old has now been assigned to FOUR different dentists! Part of this reason has been them moving out of network with my dental insurance (twice this has happened) and the other with a dentist leaving their practice. We had appointments for 3 of my kids for this week and just now got a call saying they are now out of network again (after promising us last year this wasn't going to happen). Wow i can't believe i haven't yelped them yet!! I started out bringing of my sons here...i have an autistic son who actually loves the dentist. We started coming here when their other dentist (a popular one) in town whom we saw for many years wanted to start charging a $75 fee for seeing disabled kids!!! Uh yea we left...i called this office and they were so welcoming and no...no "extra fee" for disabled. From the first appointment Dr.Abby was amazing with both of them the staff amazing i have had absolutely no complaints, the waiting room is clean and inviting and comfy...And the most important thing my kids love it here...when my son turned 18 and had to start seeing an adult dentist my heart literally broke that's how good they are here...Dr. Abby did refer him to Dr. Simpson which totally worked out for us. Positives: Location. Clean, nice office. Courteous staff and fun things to entertain the kids while they wait. Friendly dentist. Negatives:They have an absurd policy that once a child is over three years old they HAVE to go back alone. I'm sorry, but I am not going to have my shy, anxious four year old go back alone because you don't feel like putting chairs for parents next to the dental chairs. It's not worth having him be afraid and hate the dentist. I have also read too many stories of things happening to children in the back of dental offices while parents were sitting in the waiting room oblivious. I refuse to take him somewhere if I am "not allowed" to be with him at all times. They should definitely reconsider this strange policy because if it weren't for this we would love to continue care here. read more

This is a great place to introduce kids to the dentist. My kids aren't afraid of going to dentist because we come here. Friendly staff, dentists that explain everything. The facility is big and clean. Everything's thought out - like TVs in the ceiling for the kids to watch while on the chair. I really liked this place. My son went there until he was 18. I started taking my granddaughter when she was 2. I really loved how they were with her. The next visit when she was 3 she was crying and she is always shy or aprenhensive around strangers. He insisted that she had to give him a hug or he was taking back her goodie bag. She refused and he actually took the stickers and toys out of the bag and we left. He should not force a child to hug him. I was shocked. I really liked it there but im going somewhere else. My kids just started going to Dr Kurt about 7 months ago. My oldest needed lots of work done and they did a fabulous job! She still to this day doesn't know she got "the S word" all she knows is her gums went to sleep. Even after all her work, she was excited to go back for another visit. We bring our little boy to Dr. Sturz. So far, there have only been two visits but no tears at all! Just outside the office on a chalkboard, they write down the names of the kids coming for visits that day. It's a really cute personal touch. There is a larger waiting room with an aquarium and a smaller side room for kids with a old school Pacman arcade game with joysticks as well as a TV which is usually playing a movie. There is ample parking in the adjacent lot. They accept Delta Dental. The staff have all been very friendly and accommodating. We were late to our first visit because the address in Yelp was actually incorrect initially! (Hence my tip last year) But they still fit us in even though the office was about to close. Dr. Sturz has a great personality that is suited to kids. He had our shy 2 year old smiling and did a thorough dental exam and cleaning which included a fluoride application and flossing. To be honest, I wish my adult dentist was more like him! Afterwards, we usually take home a goody bag with a new toothbrush, mini toothpaste, some kid flossers and a toy. We got a water squirty toy frog last time, which my son still plays with in the bathtub months after his visit. read more

We started bringing our daughter to see Dr: Abby when she was 2.5. I loved how welcoming and kind everyone was. They had my husband and I in the room with our daughter and the dental assistant and Dr. Abby were both so great and playful with our daughter. She loved the stickers and toothbrush at the end of the visit. I recommended this place to so many parents who were looking for a dentist who would "allow" parents to stay with their kids. Today, our 3rd visit at this office, the hygienist called us back but told me they were going to try my now 3 year old in the big kid area. No problem. She said they wanted to take her back alone but would get me once Dr. Abby was there. First, this took me off guard because we were never told beforehand that she would be in a different area, nor were we told parents would be asked to wait in the waiting room. So after about 5 minutes, I asked the receptionist to take me back to where my daughter was. She said parents couldn't be back there and that my daughter was doing fine. This is completely a personal preference, but I am not ok with someone telling me I am not "allowed" to see my child. The receptionist tried explaining why I couldn't go back (not enough room basically) but I persisted. Dr. Abby may have overheard this exchange and came by and welcomed me to the back to wait with my daughter. I asked him about their policy and he said we were more than welcome to use the toddler room at the next visit, but because of space issues, parents need to stay in the waiting room once kids are old enough to go to the big kid room. I'm really disappointed by this policy they have because we love Dr. Abby and the staff there. It just didn't end up being a good fit for our family, and we switched to a different dentist. Positives: -friendly staff (the only bad interaction I had was with a receptionist who refused to let me back with my daughter) -dr. Abby is professional and explains everything throughly. He uses kid-friendly techniques that put my young daughter at ease. -TVs above the patient chairs so kids watch movies while getting cleaned -text message appointment reminders Negatives: - once your child moves to the "big kid" area (a large room with 4-5 dentist stations) they don't let parents go back. You can go back as long as your child is in the toddler room. read more

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Sturz office. He is awesome with kids, as is his staff!! My daughter gets excited about going to get her teeth cleaned and is rewarded with cute little toys on check out. My oldest daughter has seen both doctors and they've been fantastic with her. She had to have a baby tooth removed and she still isn't afraid of the dentist; the doctors and staff here really are top notch. The only complaint I have is that after the approximately 4 year age they expect (and enforce) the kids being back there alone, which my DD wasn't ready for at that point and we had to fight. I understand that each child is developmentally different, but a little more understanding on the differences of what a child is comfortable with would make this place perfect.
