WOW, WOW!!! So, let me first say this place is not easy to find, is it worth the journey? My answer...heck to the YES!!! This very unpretentious place is all about the food. The Owner, Martin is the nicest and funniest guy ever and a former Chef at Original Joe's in San Jose. Martin started us both with a FREE sample of the Cream of Broccoli soup which also contains meatballs and bow tie pasta. It was crazy delicious, and so flavorful with just a small hint of heat from the habanero that's in it. I have to tell you that was the " largest" and most generous sample of soup I have ever received!!! We absolutely found the tri-tip sandwich to be delicious to eat with the flaming hot Fritos, the bbq ribs were out of this world meaty and so well seasoned, and the same goes for the chicken and sausage. And a bbq potato? Thank you very much!!! Martin unknowingly discovered my potato passion. This is not only a fantastic place for bbq but a great stop for travelers looking for food, drinks, snacks and sweets. Thank you so much Martin for making our first time visit so memorable!!! You're a BBQ Top Chef!!!

Wow! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome like family! Martin is so friendly and personable. His market has just what you need, let's talk about the BBQ! Uuuf! The soup of the day was split pea, I've never had a better one! With chunks of ham and vegetables, it was the perfect amuse-bouche! Next comes the Tri-tip sandwich! Tender, juicy and full of flavor! Last but never least, the ribs! Tender, fall off the bone, smoky! We got the full rack for four of us, we each took home ribs for the family! We stopped here on our road trip and I suggest it to anyone looking for a lunch stop! Will be singing Martin's praise for years to come!

This location was a perfect stop on our drive to Monterey! I had heard such good things about the tri-tip sandwich and it was delicious! The owner Martin is so so lovely and so friendly even giving my husband some soup to try and a roll! He's the man running the show as he has no employees so I could imagine on a weekend. It could get very busy! The only reason I'm not giving this, a five star is due to the cash only policy (and no ATM on the property). We went into the shopping area and found several banks to grab cash. Other than that, the food was exceptional, and the service was amazing !

Prunedale Market and Deli has been consistent with being the best sandwich in California not only with Yelp but in alternate lists as well. And there's only one man who's worthy of the acclaim. Kudos to this guy. Martin ("me, myself & I", a direct quote), who runs this shop by he who smokes, cooks and creates excellence. Here we are one Saturday morning after an hour's drive from San Jose. Navigation led us to a dead end. Parked at the cul de sac and saw the unassuming shop. We were happily greeted by Martin who then asked what he could get me. I just answered, "the famous sandwich and whatever soup you have today". After a quick minute, out came the generously portioned masterpiece and a cup of corn chowder. First, let's critique the soup. Having had corn chowder many times, I could honestly say this was the best so far. The meatballs add to the flavor of this creamy celery soup. Lastly, the sub. The Flamin Hot Fritos Corn Chips topping isn't the first time time I've seen crisps mixed with regular food items. This concoction however, won us. The smokey tri-tip, veggies and barbecue sauce combo was worth the ballyhoo. Simply, a flavor explosion. This lunch was generously portioned and priced right. We even got a succulent and tasty rib sample from Martin. It was a worthwhile side trip on our way to Monterey. Planning on getting the ribs next time we're headed to the Peninsula.

On our way down to LA to start our Labor Day weekend vacation, we stopped by what is known as California's BEST sandwich place. Upon parking, you immediately get hit with the smell of smoked bbq being made on the side. Upon entering the store, you're greeted by the nicest person at the front that immediately makes you feel at home. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich and half rack of ribs. Come hungry as the portions to the food is massive! The tri-tip sandwich was smoked and cooked to perfection that's served with a generous handful of spicy frito chips, tomato and lettuce, served with a nice fresh toasted bread. The rack of ribs were huge and tasted amazing. It was served with a spicy sausage which I believe he provided for free. Throughout our lunch there, Martin the owner walked around to talk and provide free samples of his bbq experiments as well. After lunch, we tried tipping which he wouldn't accept and even walked out to our car to provide us more food and ice cream. All in all, a great start to our trip which will be so hard to follow up on with Martin's generosity, being so relatable, and genuine. If you're reading this Martin: I hope your gout gets better and hope that we run into each other when you're back up in the Bay Area from time to time! From one gout brother to another! Epic 10000/5. Come for the food, stay for the vibes, and return as a friend and long time patron. Love ya, Martin!

TLDR: Bring Cash! Eat the Tri-tip and Chili. Try your hardest to tip him. If this isn't the best sandwich in California it's damn near the top. The tri-tip sandwich is the reason you go here. The owner, who's name I woefully forgot, is very very kind. Here's my story. My wife and I didn't know he didn't take card and we showed up with just under the amount of cash needed for two sandwiches. He overheard us talking, asked how much we had, and then said "well that's exactly what two sandwiches cost!" Spoiler alert. That's not what two sandwiches cost. We talked while he made the food and he have us both a free cup of chili and a rib. I tried to pay him the difference on my next visit and he wouldn't accept it. I tried to leave him a tip. He wouldn't accept. We had plenty of money the second time and he still under charged us. Then he gave me two ice cream bars in the way out. I love this place. The owner is very kind and generous.

Going or leaving Monterey or passing thru via 101. A must stop if you enjoy BBQ ribs or Tri-Tip sandwich. Well priced for the amount of food. Very delicious food, lots of locals eating takeout. Well worth the stop. Friendly dude running the place

Does any one know if they have ribs and their famous tri tip sandwich as soon as they open at 10a? Read about this place and will be driving 2 hours to get some bbq in a few weeks and wanted to make sure 😅

Yes, usually everything is ready to go....he lives on site and begins the cooking very early. I would call first. He is very nice and friendly. It is a place where friends in the area gather to hang out and eat.

    Do they offer party trays?

Yes! It's best if you call a day in advance to guarantee your pick up!

The presentation of sandwich was very professional. but not worth $25 at all. I hope management sees this review because i was hoping this would have been my new place for a good sandwich. the menu has so many selections. but unfortunately i can't see chancing spending $50 for two sandwich meals also side note: i didn't order full meal either no chips of drink. please give quality and quantity new time to avoid un happy customers. thanks anyways, i hope this place improves for future customers and maybe one day i'll try again?! just a lot of $$ for very little food and mostly bread and way to hard to eat... regards, Corina

It had a sweet mustard that took the sandwich to another level, and I loved that it came with sprouts. We also got a tasty pickle and piece of an orange on the side. My son really enjoyed his Caesar salad wrap. He said the wrap itself was incredibly soft, the croutons were crunchy, and the chicken was warm, tender, and flavorful. The Caesar dressing was spot on with just the right amount. He usually adds extra dressing to Caesar wraps, but this one didn't need a thing. The service was excellent. We originally asked about the Caesar salad wraps since we didn't see it on the menu, and the cashier kindly let us know they still make it, which was a pleasant surprise. Starting with the Supercharger, this was easily the standout of the two. It's loaded with roast beef, bacon, turkey, ham, salami, pepperoncini, tomatoes, red onions, gouda cheese, and chipotle aioli on a ciabatta roll. They definitely don't skimp on the meat, which makes it super satisfying. The combination of the soft ciabatta and cheese worked really well together and balanced out the heaviness of the meats. My only complaint is that it could've used a bit more sauce, something like extra mustard or mayo would've taken it to the next level. Still, a strong 8.5/10. The Belair was decent but didn't quite hit the same level. It came with turkey breast, bacon, gouda cheese, spring mix, tomatoes, red onions, pepperoncini, and chipotle aioli on fresh sliced sourdough. Ours actually came with American cheese instead of gouda, which slightly changed the flavor profile. It was a good sandwich overall, but noticeably drier, especially with the sourdough, so it definitely needed more sauce to bring everything together. I'd give it a 7.2/10. Service was fast and efficient, which I appreciated. The ambiance stood out too, it has a cool retro gas station vibe that gives the place some personality and makes it feel unique. We like to come get some food from here on a Friday night when I absolutely don't feel like cooking after working a 10/11 hour shift we always get the same thing usually on Friday nights the wait is pretty long so if I remember, I'll order ahead but most the time I just order in person... I had went a week ago or so and the food wait was about 35 minutes It was about 25 minutes last night. I went into this location yesterday June Friday the 19th at about 8:45 to 915 I was greeted with a genuine smile from the young men at the front counter Giovanni. He had a super good personality. He was super friendly, and you could tell he was actually doing his job according to his training. What compelled me to write this review o this young man (Giovanni )definitely wet behind the ears as he seemed a little shy, but not shy as in lacking customer service just shy about providing such good customer service ... it made sense because while I was waiting for my food, I asked him if it was super busy and he said yes well actually this is my second day so it seems very busy. The fact that it was his second day and he was the friendliest person in the establishment is saying something about the team. But I'm not even gonna get too much into that besides just giving this young man his flowers . Because the young man that was calling people's names around that same time was horribly rude. He slammed my food on the counter at me and then when I asked for the pickles I had ordered he said they were in the bag when I got home, they were not. He looks super upset that I had asked for honey and ketchup . Usually they just put it in the bag so I don't know why he was upset that I asked, I was super frustrated and if the management cares, they should definitely research who is working as the food color yesterday and talk to him because I know I'm not the only one who noticed his attitude I would like to add -I do you think if you are going to prompt your credit card machine, to give a tip you should also have a tip jar for people that are paying cash that would like to tip the employees that way. I'm a tip in cash type of girly. The food was super lacking This experience. The noodles from the mac & cheese were very overdone and it just wasn't the normal stuff that you usually get here - there was about five french fries in my bowl and (surprisingly )overloaded with chicken. However, I ordered a rice plate that comes with two chicken tenders, and those were the saddest little tenders I ever seen shriveled up in that box. I wish I would've took pictures, but to be honest I was just over it by the time I got home. They should've put some of that chicken that was overflowing to compensate for the lack of french fries into that plate where those sad little strips were located. It wasn't horrible, but it just definitely wasn't the same and I know you can't hit it out of the park every time. I know we will be back ...I really wanted to write this review for that young man Giovanni, I know reviews matter and I hope someone says something to him that he was mentioned or he sees it himself.

We ordered the rotisserie chicken, fries, grilled artichoke appetizer, and the garlic bread. Everyone at the table liked the artichoke dish (except me but I'm not a huge artichoke fan). I appreciated the garnish on that dish as it was a few salad greens and tomatoes with some balsamic vinegar splashed on it (so I ate a tiny tiny side salad). I actually enjoyed the flavor of the chicken as well. Though my husband did comment it tasted a bit dry, I didn't think it was so bad. I wanted to get another chicken to go for dinner. The fries were well made, and I enjoyed the garlic bread (thinner crusty bread, flavorful without being overly garlicky). The ambiance of the place was ok. We were the only people eating there the entire time (a bit concerning as it was Sunday noon- but the whole surrounding "town" was a little dead). We decided to go here as an incentive for my younger child to eat in a trolley car. So to clarify a part of the restaurant (the front) is shaped like a trolley car and the lighting on the ceiling makes it look a bit like you're in a trolley. Everything else about the place was just a restaurant, which made for a much more comfortable eating environment but not quite what I was thinking (I was thinking like dad's luncheonette in half moon bay). However, I was able to appease my adorable monster toddler overlord by walking him around outside a few times and telling him it was a trolley to appease him. The service was ok, and got better after we paid (likely a nice tip was provided). When we entered there wasn't much help or enthusiasm in our arrival. For example, I was shown where the high chairs were and told to retrieve it myself. Not rude, but just so-so. Place was very clean though and the guy behind the grill was very friendly. Overall this place worked out for us as a no-frills quick stop to fill you up with no wait/no lines for a lunch traveling between Carmel/monterey back to San Jose.
