So great to stumble on this find for a delicious sandwich for lunch. I got the pork banh mi which was one of the best I've had. The pork was soft and juicy with a few crunchy edges, the carrots were tangy, the bread was fresh and not tough and kept good balance with the amount of sandwich filling. The $20 price was high relative to where I'm from (Midwest) but it WAS a great sandwich... Also got the potatoes wedges. Not crunchy, but still delicious. Great casual lunch spot! I had high hopes for this place based on the strong reviews, but unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. I stopped in for lunch and ordered a couple of sandwiches to go, thinking it would be a good way to try the food before committing to a larger purchase like steaks, pasta, or other items from the shop. The sandwiches came out to $42 for two, which felt pretty steep. While I waited, I looked around the store at some of the other products, but nothing really stood out to me, and the service felt a bit underwhelming. The sandwiches themselves were just okay--nothing particularly memorable for the price. A few hours later my stomach also felt a bit uneasy, which didn't leave the best impression. Friendly service, no fuss interiors but ample seating if you want to dine in. We got the brisket sandwich and the fried chicken, but generous portions of meat and very flavorful. What a neat place!! I wish there was a Meatery near me, I would be a frequent flyer. They have anything meat related that you could possibly think of, as well as some nice wine, snacks, and trinkets to look at while you wait. We came here for sandwiches, but I found myself intrigued by all their goodies. My husband got the Italian sandwich, I got a crispy turkey, and my kids got a deli turkey sandwich-- everything was great. I am seriously obsessed with their pillow soft sandwich bread. We'd heard about this place so dropped by here on the way home during a mini road trip. I tried the brisket sandwich and thought it was amazing. The meat was the star and it had just the right amount of thin layers of accompaniment on each side of the bread. The size was a bit smaller than I expected, however the quality was so good, it was appropriate. There were very few little fatty spots to pluck out and I was definitely satiated and satisfied. Cool decor and a great spot. We ate it there, to avoid the take out quality loss. We saw this place profiled on a local show and stopped here for lunch three months ago. Food was so delicious, we had to come back! The sandwiches are a generous size. We split them among the three of us with a side of Mac and cheese. Yum! There are also various meats and pre-prepped food for purchase. My wife and I had lunch here at the Meatery this week. We sat at one of there 10 or so tables mixed in with shelves of specialty items. We also took home two jalapeño cheddar sausages and 2lbs of pork belly from their butcher counter. Their counter staff were extremely helpful and friendly. For lunch we ordered the pork belly banh mi and their Italian gumba sub sandwich. Both sandwiches were made with a warm sesame bun which enhanced both normally cold sandwiches. This was a nice touch. I would have preferred the banh mi pork belly to have some sear and caramelization, but it was still flavorful and fresh. The Gumba sandwich had 3 or 4 different Italian salami's with fresh l/t/o veggies. It was a big sandwich. Overall the price of each sandwich seemed fair for the freshness and quality of ingredients. While we were waiting for our sandwiches, we browsed the freezer and refrigerated cases. Their front counter cases have great cuts of beef, pork, chicken, 15-20 different sausages made in house. They also have prepared hot foods from their small hot deli case. If I were single, this would be a 'go to' spot. Along their sidewall cases they have refrigerated pre made food, frozen hard to find raw meat and seafood like scallops, pork belly, and veal shanks. These and other hard to find ingredients are all here in Seaside. For a home chef, this place is a great resource. Prices are on the higher side, but I noticed much of their proteins are locally sourced and available in one small deli/store. I will come back to try the burger or a few of their other sandwiches, and when I need harder to find proteins to cook or grill at home. Monterey County is lucky to have the Meatery. read more

Some of the meat was cooked well and flavorful, but other dishes fell flat and lacked that wow factor I was expecting. ‍ The atmosphere is nice enough, and the staff are friendly, but the overall experience felt a little "meh" compared to other BBQ spots we've tried. What a delicious treat! My wife and I saw this shop a week ago from the street and we both wanted to make it back. Stopped in for a late lunch. Service was good, menu was well laid out on the wall with no prices that we saw. Ordered a couple of sandwiches, one calamari and a fried chicken. Quick, order up in ten. My chicken sandwich was good it had a pretty tangy type slaw on it, did I say "tangy." My wife's was better. The first bite of her calamari sandwich was delicious. Perfectly cooked and balanced with the sauce and bread. That's a winner. After lunch , looking around a little they have some pricey wines, house made dog foods, books, hats and of course meats, sausages and Green Egg Smoker's to cook them. Saw "The Meatery" on the PBS show called "Check Please" and I had to go there the next time I was in Seaside, CA. Well, I'm here! The Meatery opened 4 years ago. It is a deli with special sandwiches, bbq shop with meats smoked in a Green Egg Smoker, a butcher shop with lots of prime cuts of meat and in-house made sausages, and pre-made foods in the cold cases, like shrimp gumbo, that you can bring home and heat up They also sell beverages and cookies. The parking lot is small, so you may have to park in the dirt lot next door. The Meatery is a shop, but they do have indoor tables and chairs to enjoy your food or you can take your foods to go. The place is cozy & clean, the furnishings are made of dark wood, and the room has lots of light from all the windows. I came here on a Saturday at a little after 5pm. Tip #1, The Meatery is closed on Sundays & Mondays, and Tip #2, they stop making sandwiches at 5pm on the dot! So get there early if you want a sandwich! Looks like you can order online too, but I didn't know it at the time. Even though I got there after 5pm, I was still able to get some of their moist and tender smoked brisket, spicy mac & cheese pimento salad, and loaded broccoli salad with bacon bits. That combo was DELICIOUS! Yum!!! Everything is packaged nicely. Also got their popular black garlic sausage & cheesy Jalapeño sausage. Can't wait to grill them up! This place is head and shoulders above just about any other butcher shop or deli I can think of. Highest quality ingredients, and food prepared by artisans who know what the hell they're doing. I have to say that the pastrami Reuben sandwich is absolutely a modern miracle of sandwich engineering. I'm really trying hard to think of having had a better sandwich in my life, and coming up with nothing. Had lunch here with the wife as I have seen it mentioned in quite a few reviews. We parked in the dirt lot next door which is okay to park per the staff as I didn't want to be towed or get a ticket. Service was fast and promo a lot of unusual flavors to choose from, so if you are feeling adventurous then this is a good spot. Listen.. I have never submitted a review SO QUICKLY for something I've eaten. I popped in about an hour and something ago off the suggestion of a few locals from an earlier cafe visit. The menu is modest, it's got about 10 or so items, I'm sure they change it up with specials, etc. I let the man know that I'm in town visiting from a few hours south and had a hard time deciding bc it all sounded GOOD. Now, I think this is the greed they talk about in the Bible because I ordered two sandwiches. I just had to try more than one. First off, clean space, enough seating for patrons, and I'm sure the butcher meat to go is quality. The people working here are incredibly kind and have great energy -- I didn't feel rushed at all as I stared at the menu tryna decide. I chose the turkey, and brisket, with a side of some kind of snow pea salad (it changed my life). You'll want to aim for the other heavier sides but don't sleep on the pea salad! Have long awaited a "real" Reuben sandwich, and couldn't wait to try The Meatery, as theirs had been lauded by several people. But what a major disappointment it was. The meat was not only very fatty, but it was extremely tough and difficult to bite through and chew. There was only a shred or two or sauerkraut (which we had to look for). The sauce that should be on a Reuben, was neither Russian or Thousand Island, and had no taste, served only to make the bread extremely soggy. The bread was lackluster; it had no discernable rye flavor, and tasted less than fresh. There was a very thin slice of cheese that wasn't even melted, and added nothing to the mess. As we were in a hurry and took our sandwich "to go," we did not bring these issues up at the time. All that for $22.00 PLUS TAX and a 10-minute wait while no one else was in the establishment!!! Yum! My husband and I are from the area and come down a few times a year to visit. We like to try different places each time, and since we've never been to The Meatery we decided to give it a go. I'm so glad we did! My husband ordered the Cali-Cheesesteak and I ordered The Turkey. Both sandwiches were absolutely delicious and different than any other sandwich we've ever had. My husband thought the tritip in his sandwich was tender and beautifully seasoned. My turkey was the standout. You think there's no way green beans work on a sandwich, but they do. The flavors melded together nicely, the turkey was moist and perfectly fried, and the cranberry sauce wasn't too sweet. The potato wedges were a miss for us. The seasoning on them was quite sweet which we didn't enjoy. That's just personal preference, though. Highly recommend. read more

We were going to the nail place next-door, and we smelled something delicious coming from next-door at the Meatery so we decided to stop in and just take a look. We had just ate. I wanna make that known, but we still got a pound of brisket and mac & cheese, and then more pickles to go. That's how beautiful and wonderful the food smelled. The taste was as amazing as it looked. The brisket was fork tender and outside had that perfect satisfying slight crunch. The brisket came with a housemade barbecue sauce that was perfect with the pickles and pickled onions. The mac & cheese was OK. When I come back (and we will come back!), it will be to get some fresh meats to take home, try a sandwich off of their menu. And definitely get more brisket! Great staff. 5 stars because this is still a great place to buy top quality meats and the service staff is mostly friendly . Just don't let them cook it for you. Brisket sandwich might have been ok but it was served cold and so little meat it was closer to a slider than a sandwich. Mac and cheese was mediocre at best and also came out room temperature. Potato wedges had enough seasoning for 50 orders, completely absurd and unnecessary. Also the seasoning had loads of sugar in it which was strange. Fried chicken sandwich was probably the best item we had it did come nice and hot but way too oily and also overly sweet. The mayonnaise goop didn't add any value to the sandwich either. El Pollo Rey around the corner is the best restaurant in Seaside and you'll spend less than half the money and actually leave full. read more
