Drove by the place after a hike and decided to try it out. Was able to walk in and get seated immediately even though the place was pretty much packed. The waiter was prompt and take our drink order while we looked over the menu. We placed our order and waited while holding conversation with other patrons. The restaurant itself is bright and gives you somewhat of a diner feel. Our got to us between 10-15 minutes after ordering. The food itself was nothing short of great. My omelette was was big in portion and was heavy on the fillings. The hash browns weren't homemade but fried perfectly enough to provide the perfect balance of crisp and softness. The toast was plentiful, prebuttered and toasted just right. The amount of food you get with a breakfast combo is enough to fill up just about anyone, I was happy that I didn't order a side of pancakes like I initially planned because I would've ended up wasted them. Sometimes when breakfast is soo good do you want to share the spot? Yep we do ;) This was unplanned and found on google maps. Like I said in previous reviews, I take too long on Yelp looking for eateries that the hubs resorts to google maps to pick for us lol. We parked and walked up to the crowd of customers waiting to be seated. Luckily for us there was a small table perfect for our party of two. Our waitress was sweet, fast, and accommodating. I ordered the traditional which came with any style eggs, meat, choice of side, and two side pancakes. It is a mouthful, but I knew the leftovers would go to a good place in my stomach later ;) My eggs were cooked sunny side up with fresh bacon. The home fries were in my opinion the winner. It had the crispy exterior with the right amount of potato meat inside. The pancakes were large. I'm no pancake eater, but I did treat myself to half. It was soft, sweet, and salty after using the butter and syrup lol My better half ordered the breakfast burrito which came with scrambled eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, tomatoes, cheese wrapped in a tortilla with choice of side. He too ordered the home fries and agreed it was the best. Oh and the orange juice is freshly squeezed so Highly recommend that. I had some of the breakfast burrito and it was oh soo good. Made our usual Sunday breakfast trip to Sunrise for breakfast yesterday morning. My family dines there at least once a month, so we are definitely long term patrons. But no longer. Yesterday, we experienced one of the worst displays of customer service by a manager/owner ever. After extended waiting periods for both drink service and order fulfillment, I expressed my concerns to the manager on staff. During this time, folks seated after us had already received their orders while we had yet to even be acknowledged. The manager arrived and told us in no uncertain terms that they were busy and if we did not like it, to leave. Mind you, at no point we're we unpleasant or demeaning to her or the staff. Needless to say, we left and will never be back. I highly recommend Citrus or Milton's for breakfast if your dining in the Great Neck area. read more

The menu us a mix of standard breakfast fare with a few local dashes of flair like crab on an Eggs Benedict and other fresh choices. The servers are top-notch and friendly and the coffee is always hot and filled to the brim. I went with a breakfast sandwich on a bagel which was served quickly and deliciously. I added shredded hash browns as a side and received a large plate of hash browns cooked just right with a little bit of crispiness. They also offer fresh squeezed OJ. I don't write many reviews but felt the need to take the time to give Sunrise some justice. It is my go to breakfast spot. Coming from the north I am used to diners and the get in get out mentality. Sunrise definitely has that vibe. I have tried all the popular breakfast places and was not really impressed by any of them (no offense). However at sunrise I am consistently satisfied. They have a good system for when it it busy and I have rarely had to wait a long time. Couple times there were a hiccup in the order but they immediately apologized both times and corrected the issue. Customer service is top notch. Portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. I applaud them for doing such a great job consistently. read more

Well...I am not one to leave reviews unless one goes above and beyond or it's just deplorable. Well, this is the latter unfortunately. My husband suggested we stop here for a late breakfast on the way to run errands about 2 weeks ago. Both of us decided to order breakfast. I had French toast with eggs scrambled with cheese and turkey sausage. He had egg whites scrambled with cheese. I had a coffee, which I had to ask another waitress to get because it seemed ours forgot to bring it. Nonetheless, as I am eating, I am thinking, well this is normal diner food. Not the best and not bad. Everything is just average, I mean it's breakfast and unless you are looking for an "elevated" experience, it is what it is. Well, as I continue to eat my eggs, I notice a clear slimy substance in my eggs. I IMMEDIATELY stop eating!!! I immediately turn to the hubs, and I am like "what is this!" he looks as puzzled as I do. To ME it looked like spit. The waitress comes over and is pleasant enough and takes the plate back to the kitchen and comes back and says well, the cook says it was just eggs. I am no culinary genius, but I have cooked an egg or two in my 50 years of life and not one time have I cooked an egg and it looked like that unless it was uncooked or...well...SPIT. After that, I was unable to finish my meal and it has since made me not ever want to eat out again. Now, I may have been a one off, and we are usually pretty good customers who don't complain unless it is something egregious going on but...well, go at your own risk and check you food before you eat it. I have not been to Sunrise Cafe in probably over 6-7 years. Why, because the few times I went I was never impressed. Not that it was bad, but not great. So on a Virginia election day I decided to give them a shot and I'm glad that I did. Just don't expect a WOW factor presentation of your food and I think you will agree that they pass mustard just fine. The location off of Great Neck Rd. cannot get better. Lots of cars hustle by daily and the signage is fantastic to grab your attention. The parking lot is front only and what you see is what you get which is not a lot when busy. The lot was clear of debris on my Tuesday mid morning visit. Just before entering I noticed a row of wooden deck chairs with small tables. A most interesting arrangement for outdoor dining. Sand buckets were beside some of them with cigarette butts. So this is basically your smokers area since no smoking is permitted inside. A step inside revealed a brightly lit dining room with the fully stocked bar in front of me. The orange decor reminded me of another place which quickly came to mind as Village Inn. The counter is something I always gravitate to and love as a solo diner. So I took a seat and was promptly greeted and asked my drink order. A fresh tray of baklava covered with clear plastic was setting in front of me and it looked yum. I took a look at the menu and always seem to get a waffle combo, a favorite. I asked the manager in front of me how the waffles were. She said that their customers enjoy them. A friendly female waitress had a coffee and water out in a blink and I did order the waffle combo with eggs over easy and sausage patties. Cream for the coffee is kept in a bowl on the counter. As I enjoyed a hot joe and cranked my head around a bit. A few TV's are around and all the seating is either by booth in front, or sides. Of course the counter adds around ten seats and has one of the TV's directly in front where the kitchen is walled off. Everything I could see was pristine clean. All the staff hustled around and smiled. Customers, may which I could tell from interactions with staff were regulars. Could I be a regular here too I wondered, well the food would determine that. My waffle combo was out in less that ten minutes. A refill of coffee was performed. Syrup and butter is kept on the counter. A pet peeve is the butter in the small hard to open tiny boxes...I really do hate them. But I would not let that hold them up on a review, just throwing my disdain for packaged butter when all I want is to slather my waffle, or cakes up quickly and chow down. Everything was hot with an interesting presentation of the eggs directly over the sausage. Once the butter and syrup was applied I had the first bite of waffle which was above average and quite tasty. The sausage and eggs hot and yum as well. I would closely compare all to Village Inn quality and taste which has always been a hit for me. Both the manager who recommended and my waitress checked in with me and additional napkins were brought at my request. The plate was so big I could not quite finish to my surprise. The waffle was the hero and I could come back for that alone. They do serve lunch and close at 3 PM daily, so maybe a lunch visit in the near future. My bill was brought at my request when finished. The bill is typically brought to the end of the counter where the register is. If your at the bar they will take care of if you request which I did. Before departing I hit the men's room located on the right side of the counter. Watch your step entering the area. Both a single use men and women's room. The men's room was room and tidy. Unfortunately they were out of soap. Since no one was in the women's room I took a peak to find it tidy with soap. This visit was pretty much flawless besides the soap in the restroom. Do not expect fancy plating, or a high level of sophistication on construction of the meals because this would not be your place. However, I have yet to try lunch and may take that back. Service was exceptional, everything was clean and the meal was above average. I will come back soon for another meal and can hope that my review on a one off type visit was not to rash to provide a 4. read more

We decided to try a new breakfast place the other morning. There was an extensive menu to pick from. I decided to try the Sunrise omelet with hashbrowns and my partner go the Greek omelet with added gyro meat with home fries as a side. I will say that I was generally enjoying our meal until I found a hair in my food. I know that sometimes this happens, but it definitely turned my stomach and ruined the meal for me. The service was great and this issue was resolved by taking the meal off the bill. I would try this place again as it was laid back and seemed like a good bang for your buck... as long as there's no hair in my food next time! read more

This place is a cute little breakfast spot near me I've been wanting to try. I wasn't blown away by anything, in fact it isn't somewhere I would visit again. The breakfast was mediocre to say the least .my waffle was a tad too crispy , my scrabbled cheese eggs -watery and barely melted cheese . I'm not sure why they decided bacon belongs on top of eggs ,to get soggy? While my breakfast was appealing to the eye , not so much to the tastebuds . The hash browns were cooked to a fine crisp , yett there was NO FLAVOR NO SALT . The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars is because it's clean , fast , and the customer service is great I love when places hire enough staff and things stay steady . We've started dining here for brunch nearly weekly on Saturdays or Sundays. The food and service is consistently good. The food is always delivered quickly. The pancakes and coffee taste better here than anywhere else. The bacon is prepared perfectly. The toast comes out buttered and warm. The only setback is sometimes the hash browns are fantastic and other times over cooked. The servers are genuinely nice people and you can tell they have a good comradeship with their team.
