We walked right up to the counter, and despite there being 5 or 6 people working here, and walking by us several times, not one person even acknowledged our presence. My sister and I went in and she ordered a BES on a croissant and the (I'm assuming new) girl wrote down in the bag "CR" so the girl who made the sandwich grabbed a cinnamon raisin bagel instead of a croissant. Cute little place we found after we checked out if our room. We ordered a breakfast bagel with egg, cheese, and ham. The bagel was soft and chewy. I'm not sure what coffee they carried, but it was delicious! The employees there were friendly and extremely helpful. We sat at a booth in the corner, opposite the counter where you order your food. A customer came in with a concern, and it was taken care of right away. People looked genuinely happy and overly friendly. Kinda felt like I was in a Twilight Zone episode. The town of Brooklyn, as a whole, was very accommodating. If we are ever in the area again, we will most definitely be back! read more

I'm not sure how ordering an iced coffee with a "small splash of cream" translates to cream with a hint of coffee. I've started ordering it black and finishing it at home with cream. Unexpectedly ran into this Baker's Dozen after getting a poorly made Dunkin' coffee like three minutes up the road. Go figure. We were happy to see it though as we've enjoyed visits to other locations. In fact, It think we'd been to this one years ago because I remembered the store right next door. We went to the drive-thru. My only constructive criticism would be it would be great to have a list of your coffee flavors before you get to where you order. There are a lot of flavors but we felt like we had to pick quickly due to the line behind us. The woman who helped us was so nice. She even gave our dog a donut hole as a treat! For coffee, we went with the medium iced hazelnut truffle and it was fantastic. Strong and sweet and just refreshing. I don't think I've ever had a bad coffee at this chain. So frustrating, this place!! Their donuts are average, their breakfast sandwiches are good, but their service operations are just frustrating. Multiple people work on the same orders, and it's likely that the person who takes your order doesn't ring up your order. I like their place, but it seems like I have to work harder when I go in. My fiancé and I prefer this over Dunkin any day. Great selection of flavored coffees, and real flavored coffee not that syrupy garbage you get at the bigger chains, and it's cheaper! I love the seasonal selection as well. Their pastries are by far our favorite, especially the apple fritters! They are huge and always fresh and worth every cent. Unlike other reviewers, never had bad service experience and we live down the street so practically an every day visit for either or both of us. We've also been to their location in Pomfret and equally consistent, courteous service as well as awesome coffee and treats. I have yet to have a burnt or watered down coffee unlike Dunkin across the street which is almost every time I go there and instantly regret it. This place is what a donut shop should be. Fresh donuts and pastry, a cheerful staff that is happy to help you. Convenient drive through that is very quick. And did I mention fresh donuts! I was totally a Dunkin' Donuts girl until I discovered this place. The coffee is better here and they offer a better variety of flavors. I also appreciate that coffee is not served scalding hot. It's still a good temperature for coffee but I don't have to worry about burning the skin off the roof of my mouth when I drink it the way I do when I'm at Dunkin' Donuts. My kids love the doughnuts and I am partial to their turnovers. It's also the only place I can find in the area that serves frozen lemonade in the summer. read more

My husband, adult son and I stayed overnight in Brooklyn, CT the night of June 13. The following morning, I went for a walk, stopping by the Baker's Dozen for coffee. The atmosphere was anything but warm. As I approached the door to go in, two women standing outside broke off their conversation to stare at me, which was repeated inside as I walked through the door. The young woman at the cash register was very curt and rude, almost rolling her eyes when I asked a simple question. To top it off, the coffee was bad. On my way back to the motel, I stopped at the McDonald's for more coffee, and got far better and friendlier service, and the coffee was better. read more

I love a fresh donut (although I shouldn't) and am always on the lookout for something other than a Dunkin Donuts. I stopped here recently while on Rt 6. They had a good selection of donuts (unlike DD these days) and I chose a Strawberry Cheesecake donut. It was a yeast donut with a strawberry filling and a cheesecake icing. It was just the right amount of ingredients. Their coffee was very good as well. The inside was full at 9am on a weekday including 4 CT State Troopers and the drive-through business was brisk even though the drive-through configuration is very unusual. Service was with a smile and prompt. This place was half the size of the Dunkin Donuts across the street yet had more than double the business. read more

This chain is beginning to spiral in a downward trajectory. In just the last week alone I've had two unsatisfactory experiences. Earlier this week I ordered a breakfast sandwich and an orange juice. The orange juice was not bottled but in a plastic covered cup with a straw. It is some combination of a seltzer type mix with an orange syrup. It was horrible and I couldn't drink it. The cup cover was covered in this orange syrup. Today went through the drive through and, once again, I'm 15 miles down the road and realize my coffee was served black when I ordered it with cream and a sweetener. I absolutely LOVE this rapidly growing franchise. The owner is over 90 and still an active part of their day to day operations. Absolutely EVERYTHING they have to offer is delicious. My only reason for the 4 vs. 5 star review is the consistency. I absolutely live for their chicken salad on pita bread, toasted with cheese. However, there's no consistency with the amount of chicken salad you receive per sandwich. On a good day, the pita bread will be 3/4 of an inch high with their chicken salad. Unfortunately, most times you will drive off with a table spoon amount in each. They're not cheap, but I like to get my money's worth, when it's worth it, which unfortunately most times are not, with the chicken salad sandwiches. With that said, they're pet friendly and will always be more than happy to give you pet a doughnut hole or treat. They're always friendly, never rude like D&D, and are happy to serve. read more
