    Bakery

We were staying nearby and one afternoon after a day of exploring we stopped into Woodstock Orchards. The perfect activity for a fall day. Lots of pumpkins to chose from, weird and creepy gourds for decorating, pumpkin picking, and a bakery filled with the most amazing apple cider donuts. The store had lots of jams, jellies, apples, ciders to chose from. We then popped in to the bakery and had two apple cider donuts and a latte. The donuts are covered in cinnamon-sugar and are so soft and light on the inside, not an ounce of greasiness to be found, they were absolutely scrumptious. The latte was smooth, creamy and you could actually taste the vanilla which isn't always the case. The staff was friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed our stop. We had read an article ranking the best apple cider donuts in Connecticut, and one of the top ones is down near Mystic, which we did visit a few days later. I will let you know that the apple cider donuts at Woodstock Orchard are by far so much better than this other spot. So run don't walk to Woodstock Orchards and get them while you can. Wish we had taken a few for the road. A fun spot to spend some time if you have children too.

Iced latte and a shortbread square with fruit filling

Nice spacious place to stop for coffee, tea etc and have a treat. I got an iced latte and a shortbread square with fruit filling. The square was so delicious, I definitely need to learn how to make a tray of them! They had lots of tables and chairs and other products and food for sale e.g. they had a cooler with fresh cider and apple crisps and baked apples all packaged up ready to go.

This was a pleasant surprise while driving around Woodstock. Very nice selection of quality fruits and vegetables at modest prices which is usually not the case at most farm stands. They have a small bakery, offering pies, muffins and donuts. This was a rare treat to find such a hidden gem.

Woodstock Orchards is a super sweet place to pick apples! They have a beautiful, large, serene orchard out back!! If you don't feel like picking your own, you can just purchase one of the impressive bushels inside. You can also pick up other seasonal goods such as pumpkins and hearty mums while you're there. . You can take some Instagram worthy photos outside here and splurge on fresh apple pastries such as muffins and turnovers. The girls split a muffin as big as their head and finished before I could hand them a napkin! Inside I also picked up some maple syrup (which I always do when I'm in New England), sweet potato butter and "Dragon's blood" hot sauce for hubs. It came recommended by the kind, young gentlemen inside who didn't rush us at all despite it being close to closing time. (Sorry guys!) The sauce was an apricot hot that foment hit you at first and then...wow! It is now a favorite in this house! Don't miss some of their locally made market goodies to take home! Out-front there was a festive seasonal display around a big read tractor the girls were able to hop up on and LOVED! If you have kiddos, this is definitely a huge draw! A fantastic stop which gave us all of those small town wholesome feels, some pretty photos, delicious treats, and a chance to play in some leaves which haven't been falling back home just yet!!

We like the homemade bagels. They also have apple cider slushes, which are cool and refreshing.

    Reservations required for apple picking?

No, even though we haven't picked for a long time, there never was a wait. I have seen people drive up during peek season and went right in.

The lady handing out the apple bags was very informative about the property. There are 28 variety of apples which compared to the one I work at which has 13. 130 acers in comparison to to the 82 at ours. The bags are sold at 2$ a pound so a half bushel filled will be around $40 and a peck will be roughly $20. My opinion get the bang for your buck and go all out. Creston apples are phenomenal! Reminds me of a ginger gold, great crunch, awesome flavor! I told my buddy here needs to buy these for his farm. Love the fact that a lot of rows are done in trellis style which I never seen before and make a great deal of sense for tree to acreage. They are also very manageable for picking that everything for me (6'1" tall) is grabbing reach. So you smaller people do not have to do all that jumping ;) Being the weekend before Columbus weekend the trees are on their last stretch of apples but the middle of the rows still have plenty for picking. The farm itself has blueberries, peaches, plums and pears too but certainly now out of season. The store itself is a nice treat. I filled a bag full of goodies to accommodate my sweet tooth but also to support the farm. The store is open seven days a week seven months out of the year.

I am glad I had a chance to visit before Thanksgiving to stock up on some goodies! If you've been to Sweet Berry Farm in Middletown, Four Town is kind of similar, although the rustic farmhouse-chic shop does not have a prepared foods counter. However, they more than make up for it with all the amazing vegetables and fruits grown onsite. I was very impressed with the Honeycrisp Apples and Butternut Squash, as well as their wide selection of house made jellies and salad dressings. In addition to Four Town's slate of offerings, they also showcase other local vendors such as Wrights Dairy Farm's milk and cakes and Venda Ravioli's frozen fresh pasta and sauces. Four Town also carries fresh flowers and greenery that is holiday-ready - Christmas Trees and decorative wreaths and evergreen garlands. The team is friendly and offers excellent assistance in recommendations and recipe ideas- everyone we interacted with was delightful. This is a great stop along the way to lunch or dinner in neighboring Warren or Bristol, and a lovely way to spend a weekend afternoon!
