Deserts are great. Would certainly recommend. They are having a hard time, food has a good taste but the deserts are very much homemade.

Food was cold, they took it back and brought it back out a few minutes later and it was still cold. I didn't really enjoy what I ordered. Another customer across from me also had cold food. We'd lived here for five years and never made it, though we always wanted to--we figured since the parking lots was always full, it had to be a pretty good place. So, when we moved back, it was one of the first places we wanted to visit...and we weren't disappointed. The menu was just big enough and offered plenty of options--in addition to a few specials. The food is"down home," you get lots of it, and it is cheap. The service is also super friendly (you can tell this a place that gets regulars and the servers know them). This is one of our favorite local diners in Jacksonville! The family who owns it is always there and seems so nice. They only accepted cash at the time but that's no trouble. They had smaller portions which was freshing, and the quality of the cheesesteak I always get is delish! Definitely recommend if you like diners. Ps- the homemade desserts are amazing! read more

Do not order take out from here! Their food is average good, but their take out service is horrible. The person that took my order over the phone was terrible at communicating, I waited over 45 minutes in the restaurant for my food, and still some items were missing. My family and I have been here several times. Usually the service is prompt, order accurate, and food hot. Our waitress was not on her A-game today. We sat for 15 minutes before she arrived to take our drink order. We had to ask multiple times for basic stuff: menus, silverware, refills. I ordered sweet tea and got unsweet. After waiting another 25 minutes we asked if our food was ready. It came out cold, which makes us assume it was sitting there waiting for some time. This is the first restaurant I've ever been to that serves a pulled-pork BBQ sandwich dry, meaning no sauce at all. Simply dry pulled pork on a bun. This is a common stop on the way to OAJ airport, but if we experience another visit like we had today we'll find another spot to frequent. read more

This place has a nice southern atmosphere with how the dining area is set up. But the wait time is outrageous for simple breakfast food, especially since at my time of visit the place is half empty. I want to like this place but I can't justify waiting this long for eggs and bacon. read more

First visit while passing through Jacksonville. The food and service were excellent. I had the stewed-beef with cabbage, mac and cheese and cornbread with strawberry cake for dessert. When you are missing your Grandma or just in need of good down home comfort food then Bakers is the place to go. The portions are generous, the price is low, the food quality is superb. The chicken salad on wheat toast always hits the spot and the fish sandwich is always fresh. Our experience here was awful, We were there for an hour and we still never received our food. We paid for our drinks and just left. There were people that got seated after us that received their food and we never did. Our waitress never came back to check on us after she got our order. It was almost like we were an inconvenience to her. She literally was eating in front of us, when she could of took that time to see if we needed refills or checked the status of our food. I could understand if they were busy, but they weren't. The staff was standing around, talking, and eating. Face mask were not worn by the staff. Will definitely be contacting the health department. Baker's isn't too bad, it depends on who's cooking and what time of the day it is. I've gotten to go orders that the vegetables (Lima beans) were like paste from being in the steam table all day. The people that eat there usually are there every day and look at you like you're lost when you go in. I think everyone there including the customers are related to each other in one way or another. LOVE the new management. They make me feel like family, and the food is great and cheap! Only 2 reasons I didn't give it 5 stars. 1. I had gone bad oysters there once. They paid for my meal and offered me something else, but it really turned me off oysters! 2. Their debit card machine is an ATM. We live right down the street from Bakers and were waiting to try this place for months after moving here. We finally got around to it, but at the last minute. Literally. We walked in 45 minutes before the place closed and with two toddlers at that (Yeah, I know. That's why I made sure we left a decent tip). Having worked as a server before I know this typically warrants an attitude and subpar service, but not at Bakers. We were greeted the second we walked in, and the owner was so incredibly kind, I was amazed. Positively lovely woman. She knew immediately that we were new customers and even gave all four of us free desserts. I loved the down home ambiance and the staff was so kind. I had the catfish, it was alright. But I'm super picky about my cole slaw and Bakers did not disappoint. On top of that, the strawberry cheesecake and banana pudding were delicious. This place will easily become a regular local eatery for us! read more

I live in Jacksonville NC, we try to support local businesses, have heard good things about this place, so we dicided to give it try, it was the most horrible experience ever, we have eaten all over the world countries, never walked or didn't pay for a meal until today, keep in mind this was our first time, my wife ordered the breakfast special, first we found a hair, then a string was told that could be from the eggs, then she found another slring that went from the eggs across the plate pass the grits, that was it, strike 3, at that point we called the waitress who was very nice and asked if we wanted something else, NO NO NO, was the answer. Will not try or recommend this place, sad, seam like a nice friendly atmosphere and place to eat and enjoy your food read more

My husband and I ate here last week. Didn't notice the sanitation rating until we went to pay the bill....."C". Now, I have never seen any place ever have a "C". The food was ok but nothing great. We ate the chicken steak . It was ok. Years ago I used to take the kids there all the time and never noticed a grade for the store then. We ordered dessert before we got up from the table and ordered the take-out, the waitress told it they were made fresh every day. Plenty of people in the store. But my husband came out of the place mad! And said for me to throw the desserts away. He said he would not eat another thing ever from a place with a "C" rating. I just read the rest of the reviews and one person talked about the grading being even lower last year. I don't understand. How can a place let itself be known as "dirty", and feed customers with a smile? We threw the desserts away and I guess I will only have my memories of the place ..never again. read more

Simply amazing! First time eating here and was hopeful it would be delicious....well it came through. Staff was so pleasant, and food was even better. My husband got the blueberry pancakes, I got the eggs benedict, and then we got biscuits and gravy to share (we always try it no matter where we go, cause it's our favorite) and everything was fantastic. We eat at Baker's at least once a week. The portions are huge and reasonably priced. This is country style cooking with specials each day. The desserts are all homemade. It isn't open on Sundays so that employees can attend church. It isn't fancy, but the friendly stuff, decent food, and low prices make it a great family restaurant. read more

82 on health score - they keep blaming it on "refrigerator problems" since summer of 2016 when score was 70.5 and they used same "excuse". Not the quickest service either. Won't be back until there is an improvement in health score. read more
