I've been to this campus a couple of times recently for graduations, and I also attended school here many years ago. Walking around brought back a lot of memories because honestly, the campus still looks pretty much the same as I remember it. Some areas have been updated, but overall it hasn't changed too much over the years. One thing that definitely hasn't improved is the parking situation. Finding parking for classes was always stressful back then, and it still seems to be a problem now, especially during big events like graduations. It can take a while just to find a spot, and traffic getting in and out of campus can be frustrating. Another thing I noticed is that there always seems to be construction going on somewhere around campus. It feels like certain buildings are constantly under repair or being worked on, and the projects seem to take forever to finish. It can make the campus look a little messy and inconvenient at times. On the positive side, the teachers and staff I've interacted with have always been pretty cool and helpful. Overall, it's still a decent school with a familiar atmosphere, but there are definitely some areas that could use improvement. read more

We attended the play The Scarlet Pimpernel. A fellow Tehachapian played The Prince of Wales, she did amazing. The orchestra was phenomenal. We really enjoyed ourselves; tonight was opening night. The theater is beautiful but extremely HOT. We fanned ourselves the whole time. We asked about it, and they told us it wasn't working. Hope they get it fixed for the next six day. Bakersfield College is huge! It is a bummer if you dont know where you're suppose to go then you dont know where you should park at. My niece is on the water polo team at BC and I went to her game yesterday. I just picked a parking lot where I seen visitor parking and started walking. There were construction going on so I knew not to walk towards that. I wish there were signs pointing where the gym was or where the pool was, ect. I just started walking, I saw the gym, it was locked. I kept walking, a bit shy to ask someone for help. I finally saw a map and saw where the pool was so i turned around and the pool was by the old gym , down the stairs. There were benches for the players and the guests and there were canopies. Some people even brought their own chairs which I gotta remember to do in the future. It was free to enter. My niece also said football games are free as well. It was a great game, i always love seeing my niece. I didn't agree with the coach's substitutions but that's College sports. read more

Horrible, MARIA GALVEZ in the financial aid office was so unhelpful. Boo to their staff

Went to BC for dinner at the Renegade Room. All parking lots ask for a pass. Drove around whole campus looking for a machine to buy a pass. None. Found a lovely security guard who told me there were no machines right now. I asked what we were supposed to do. She called the office and they weren't much help. Told me to go ahead and park and she would let others know that we had parked. Fingers crossed for no parking ticket. Campus is beautiful! Definitely need more benches! read more

I wish I had every single penny I spent back. When you get suspended from an athletic competition because of something you said about COVID testing, you know you are in a bad spot. This is my second tome coming here, it was easy to find and parking is not bad here at all. Unless I was just lucky the two times I came here. The campus is big and there gonna contraction so it looks like another building is coming. Headed to the administration office if you look too your left the view is breath taking, it a Mountain View it's something you can differentially get lost in thought. The people the admin office are college students, not too professional but there kids so what do you expect. We walked up and half of them are in their own conversation just laughing, good times. That being said there was no wait when we walked up and our question was answered and the girl seemed like she knew what she was talking about and if she didn't she wouldn't make up anything lol. I want to lodge a complaint against Professor Pete LeGrant. I felt he singled me out by name in class for my unwavering support of my Mother country Israel. Iam as liberal as the next guy but have strong feelings about the ongoing crisis there. He belittled and embarrassed me so much that I considered hurting my self. As a graduate of Bakersfield College back in the mid 2000's I'd say this review is long overdue. But I still visit BC regularly for events and happenings. Like their awesome astronomy observatory thing? So cool! Highly recommend a visit for any of their showings. They do bookup very quickly. I graduated from Bakersfield College not expecting to make this my first stop. In fact, I had gone away to a four year institution and quite simply, got homesick. Combined with that and that I really wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life BC just made sense. I came back home and enrolled in courses to satisfy by IGETC with the idea that I would transfer out of BC as fast as possible to a UC. What I found while I was there were an amazing group of teachers and mentors that sincerely wanted you to be successful. Perhaps I just lucked out, but the majority of people I met at BC were total cheerleaders for education. I loved the experience so much I continued taking classes for enrichment. I ended up receiving a few AA and AS degrees but what I left with was a lifetime of new skills and aspirations. read more

This school is very low in standards, the classes are cheap just like their faculty. You can't get your money back for parking passes, even if the school switches your classes to online. There's poor people on campus asking for money (where is the security??), so that's what you'll be looking forward to here. Oh yeah, if you're a freshman and you're a female Be safe rather than sorry. Suspicious men will try to grope and/or abduct you in the parking lot. (Where is the security???) You'll get emails from the school about it. Just take the online courses as much as possible or go to csub. You're not going to like BC. read more

It is back to school time so I thought I'd throw in my two cents about one of the schools I have attended in Bakersfield. In my opinion, Bakersfield College is a wonderful community college. I have attended classes here throughout the years to in order to enrich myself. I have been very pleased with what I have learned. The campus is easy to navigate. Lots of parking available especially if you don't mind walking. Many courses to choose from. Professors and teachers have all been good. Facilities are showing signs of age, but overall still fine. All my interactions with staff have been positive. Terrific school to start your college education or to learn more no matter what your age. read more

I've got to say out of all colleges I've attended this has to be the rudest, most pathetic school I've ever stepped foot in. Admissions and every other staff member I spoke with were very unhelpful and flat out rude. The women in admissions were unprofessional and too busy gossiping amongst each other! I graduated Bakersfield College back in 2006. I had nothing, but a great experience going here. Staff and teachers were always friendly, plenty of financial aid programs available, classes were easy to find, big campus, lots of trees, I loved the stadium, big library, awesome computer lab, and plenty of parking. Especially on the west end. People just don't want to pay for it. I get it thou, I used to complain when we had to pay $35 for the whole semester. I used to get pissed off when they would hold meetings or events and block off parking sections. Especially when I was paying to park in those spots. I can only imagine how much they charge nowadays. Anyways, it is a great school and they offer plenty of good courses. read more

The person that handles the veterans admissions will not return calls. If you are a veteran I would shy away from this school!!! Take your GI bill $$$$ elsewhere. Especially if you are trying to enroll before you move. My husband has been trying to get ahold of Linda Cordova for over a month and has left a dozen voicemails with no returned call! Not everyone is in Bakersfield and can come to Linda Cordovas office........... Not returning phone calls is unprofessional in any business. Was given her email, she doesn't return those either. Just plain DGAF. The counselors need to quit transferring people to a person who has no intention of returning calls. Rude! read more

I got my associates degree here in two years, so yes people it is possible! I think a lot of people come here with an attitude that this place sucks, and as a result are miserable here. I was never unhappy about going here. I saved a ton of money coming here for the first two years of college. There are some awesome teachers here in the anthropology and psychology department. The school isn't new, fancy, or special in anyway, but it's still awesome. If I could choose to come to BC over again I would totally do it. On a side note: yes there are some dumb people who just go there to waste time, and there are a lot of older people. I have a love/hate relationship with this college. While I understand that it is dated, it need some major work. The campus can be pretty dirty at times, and some of the people that attend it are seriously a disturbance. I can't walk to class without being screamed at, hearing obscene rap music in the quad, or people acting like complete children. I thought I was in college, not Kindergarten. I wish there was more opportunities for online degrees like other colleges offer. I rely heavily on distance education and this would be excellent. My only other complaint is the restrooms. The restrooms always seem to be a hot mess that are absolutely filthy. Half the time there isn't soap and the other half the time the paper towel dispensers do not work. read more

Bakersfield College is where I did a majority of my lower division coursework in college. I took a variety of classes in different departments. My least favorite department of teachers would be the geology and biology department staff and my most favorite would be the philosophy and history department staff. I am someone who really enjoys school, so I'm happy as long as my professors are inspiring/leading/etc. I will admit the buildings and desks are very old, which I could deal with. The thing that really sucked though is the bathrooms. I found that most staff was willing to help and inform, try to keep costs down for us, and work with us as students. I also found there were compelling opportunities on campus in extracurricular, cocurricular, and random events that can keep any student satisfied or at least busy socially. I also found most classmates were pretty open and easy to talk to for organizing study groups and whatnot. Overall, I am very happy with what I got for the price I got it and left with minimal frustrations. I would recommend BC to anyone wanting a certificate, AS/AA, lower division courses out if the way for cheap, or someone who is not quite ready for a university. read more

Attended BC from 2006-2014, the classes and teachers are great. I lived 45 miles away so I utilized a lot of online courses from KCCD. Unfortunately I had to advise myself in which classes to take and often times I was advised to take incorrect classes by advisors and counselors... which was a waste of time... hence 2006-2014. Finally graduated in 2014 with my associates in Sociology and transferred to Cal State Bakersfield. read more

When it comes to instruction, it's fine. When it comes to support staff in nearly all areas, it's a joke. When it comes to support staff in Financial Aid, it's a nightmare. Their staff do not know the difference between BOG-A and BOG-C eligibility. After getting a BOG-C waiver in 2016, they - without notifying me - retroactively rescinded my BOG waiver, leaving me on the hook for $882. I noticed in the Spring and tried to address it multiple times over the summer, only to have the extraordinarily rude staff tell me I was overreacting and their system was having issues with BOG-eligible students. After they'd sorted out their BOG issues, my problem remained, so I called them again. The girl told me over the phone it was because I made too much money, that the income limit was $24k and I was over that amount, so they manually changed it. I told them I was aware that I didn't qualify under the income-only path, which is BOG-A. I qualified under BOG-C, as evidenced at another community college. The girl said she didn't know what I was talking about, and in any case it was too late to do anything about it as the "aid year had closed." For what it's worth, they did this exact same thing to my brother over the summer, going so far as to print out paperwork that constituted "proof." After my parents escalated it over the course of several weeks, it turned out my brother was actually eligible for a Pell grant. Of course, it was too late for him to enroll in classes by that point. I don't even know who to talk to now. The supervisors "stand by their staff" to the point where they all parrot incorrect information. I know that people come here and don't have any problems. However, between the poor campus security, crime statistics, and incompetent support staff, it's easy to find a better school. read more

I have been attending Bakersfield College on and off since 2001. I had to finally just bite the bullet and drive out to Taft College for classes due to the non availability of Science courses at Bakersfield College. This College needs a lot more Science courses to accommodate the influx of Nursing and other medical type students. The counseling department is a joke. You never see the same counselor and each one you see tells you something different than the last. Getting an appointment no problem if you have 2-3 months to wait. Walk in takes hours and they only accept a handful a day. I have all my credits to graduate, have for years now but Bakersfield College has yet to put in my Credits from Taft College (despite the 3 different evaluation request put in). Parking is nightmare in it's self has been since the 90's. If a campus ever needed a parking garage it for sure is Bakersfield College. If your going for an AS degree I suggest Taft College. If your going for an AA you might be able to get your degree in a descent amount of time at Bakersfield College. read more

I have attended various classes over the years since I moved to Bakersfield back in 1982. I even transferred credits from other schools and received an AS degree back in 1985. Then I was able to transfer credits from BC and got my BS from the University Of Oregon in 1986. After i started working for the County of Kern I took various computer classes that greatly improved my job career. I am now retired and haven't taken anything recently but I found the whole experience worth the effort and the expense. Yes I realize that education is a lot more expensive these days but believe me it was cheaper here than in Oregon where I also attened both the University of Oregon, and Clatsop College in Astoria, Oregon. read more

I am going to be graduating this semester. I have had a great time here and the teachers are what make or break this school. I have been lucky during my time here by always having great instructors. The only things that I didn't like was the fact that the book store is very expensive. Sometimes a simple class will have a book that costs over $100 and then you don't even really use it as much as you thought you would. Do yourself a favor and check amazon and other sites before you break down and buy at the bookstore. There were also times when the counselors are pretty useless. They give a lot of misdirection and screw up your paperwork. Other than those things this school has been a great place! read more
