I have substancial concerns about this school. I am about to spend a small fortune, out of pocket, and I have little faith in the competence of staff and the quality of instruction so far. Instructions for students are unnecessarily complicated and unclear. The curriculum for the prerequisite class was subpar and borderline unacceptable, especially considering the $1200 price tag. Admin has been equally unimpressive. Communication is awful. The Complio system and the Unitek website are confusing and difficult to navigate. My outlook at the Unitek College in Bakersfield was awful. The Instructors are late for there very own class they are teaching and want to students accountable for there lateness. Also My 1st day of class the Circulium was wrong meaning the Books that were given out were wrong. The Instructor didn't even have a Book to teach us out of. This Bakersfield campus does not have Hot Running water to wash your hands either. Super Sad. A Heads up. There's not a Portville Campus but there allowing you to do all your Own line student work for LVN. In Bakersfield Untiek Campus if you attend there you can not do all your classwork online. I started the LVN-BSN program on the start of COVID (2020). it was a rough start since we were the first cohort of LVN-BSN program to start. But we all finished! With so many already 1 month post of graduating and obtaining their licensure. Although the program was really hard and challenging, all the staff (especially Ruth E and Rebecca E for putting up with each and everyone of us), continued to help us every way and any way they can! Couldn't have done it without y'all, honestly! Shoutout to my professor: Professor Jenny Wilson for sticking with us through thick and thin! Also, to our student advisor! overall ok experience Clinicals was amazing Ms Destiny is the best instructor no doubt she makes makes you feel confident and you learn alot as for theory it can be better its all self taught you really don't know what you will be tested on Ms Gena is by far the best instructor there she made Ob and Peds so easy as for the last month it's horrible and a waste of time you will not have a classroom and you will just be put where ever As for Mr woodman he Is no help anytime we had concerns he would not acknowlege them. For example our printer was constantly out of service we asked for a new one he said no because he already provided us with complementary coffee. I mean we are paying $35,000+ we can at least get another printer especially if we need it to have a successful education. This college is so poorly ran. Wasted months here doing courses I already completed because they would not accept my credits from National University, Fresno City College, and CSU Fresno. The instructors were unprepared and lacked the skill to properly teach the courses. One instructor provided a sample of a paper on how our assignment should look, but here actual instructions described something different. She said "APA format" but showed something that was single-spaced and had extra-spacing between paragraphs. I copied the format from the given sample, and was given a low grade with a chance to correct my work. That made no sense! Completed several courses and I no longer go there, as I got into a nursing program elsewhere... Thank goodness. read more

I just finished my BSN program with unitek and it was worth it. The program challenged me and I feel well accomplished. Going into boards I felt confident and relaxed. I used uworld to practice questions and I didn't need any additional tutoring thanks to what I learned from the professors at unitek. Do the BSN program. As of today, I can officially say I am a Unitek Alumni! Joining 1 of their programs has completely changed my life around for my daughter and I. The staff from day 1 was extremely helpful, kind, and knowledgable as they helped guide me through the entire program and beyond my education with them. I just completed the Prerequisite course. The course was a bit overwhelming as it was online with monumental tasks and strict guidelines. Nevertheless, it was a good preparatory course for Nursing and I feel very supported and guided. The counselors from admissions, instruction and financial were very accommodating and available not only from day 1 but all throughout. Celia Torres and Juliana Ochoa are gems. I do not recommend this school at all. This review is not just based off my opinion I will be telling you guys about exactly how to obtain the proof. If you plan to put yourself through school then go to this school. They have teachers but the teachers do not teach. They tell you to read your book. Call them and ask for the past 4-5 classes that graduated they do not have a good passing rate. After asking multiple students why that was happening it is because the teachers don't teach so when students have to take exit exam they are lost and don't pass. They tell there students it is because the students don't get it but instead of providing support to these students they have them study by themselves. The school should be reported to the board. Compared to other vocational nursing schools such as high desert where they help their students and almost 98-99 % of their students pass the exit exam. read more

Certain staff members have made this place fun and enjoyable to be in. Today Katrina, Erin, and the others made sure our senior day was filled with laughter and information needed for the NCLEX-GN. Katrina, Professor Erin, and Sherman made an escape room for us that helped us think critically to save our patients. We did have a blast and enjoyed the senior day. Katrina is a fantastic resource for skills lab, sims lab, and any other reason you might need help with. Professor Erin is an excellent resource to NCLEX-GN; having her as a clinical instructor for PEDS and OB was fun. Many staff members will make this place fun for the next cohort. Explore and reach out to these fantastic instructors. They will make you feel heard, and you will get results from them as quickly as humanly possible. Regret for not finishing from this reputable school --- and regret for not being employed in this establishment. Yes! Can I just say that there were kinks that needed to be fine tuned. Issues that I am proud to say that have been RESOLVED. All the teachers that were unfit --- ARE GONE! With the new management, students and teachers alike have been lead on a path towards providing a great education that can produce top grade nurses. I am from BAK 4 and have experienced the ups and downs of the new UNITEK. I can say that never have I encountered a school that really cared for the students. Have i mentioned about the teachers ??? They are phenomenal! Gev, Gena, Jennna to name a few were erudites that really know their subject matter. Clinicals ?? I had Rose, Peter and Sherri that absolutely showered me with pointers with a dash of patience ensuring I can be a safe nurse. With the collaboration of all the teachers, the school made sure we (students) succeeded. From remediation classes to even personalized messages to our instructors... I honestly went through a phase where I had given up on pursuing nursing, But Juliana Ochoa changed my life and mind, most vocational colleges or staff follow a protocol and set their mind as to how it should be, & don't even try to do more for you. I had a life situation where It changed my future goals drastically and I was thinking it was just financial interest they were after. I have had nothing but a wonderful experience a Unitek College, Bakersfield, Campus. I understand that people say it's very expensive, but I am in the mindset My education is the most important thing to me and pay any amount to reach my goals. So far the staff at Unitek has been nothing but wonderful from Amy Focht ( academic advisor) who has to be one of the most patient understanding person, I have ever met. Every text message, every phone call and trust me there have been many , she always answered them in a timely manner, with no question left unanswered. If you are lucky enough to have her as an advisor consider yourself blessed. Kathlene Reyes( Financial aid advisor) who made the process of financial aid , honestly easy. She went through the process every step with me and took her time to make sure we had the best plan in place for me. I understand Unitek is a lot of money, does that make it bad no ! I highly recommend Unitek College if you're looking to get started in the medical field. The program is highly structured and geared to help you succeed. I started with Unitek before Covid hit in the PM VN course the end of 2018. When I had to take a leave, they were more then understanding and reached out to help me get re-enrolled and back on track. They even bent over backwards to work with me and get me restarted on my goal. Financial aid has always worked with me through my struggles. Kayla in career services has always helped me and brings joy where ever she goes. If I ever have a question I can reach out to anyone in the office and they are quick to find an answer and provide the help that I needed. When we were in a classroom setting, there was always plenty of help when you needed it and the instructors were there to answer all the questions that were asked. The informational stories that they provided were always beneficial to the topic were learning. Since switching to the BSN program, Logan has always reached out to make sure that I'm not struggling and has even provided me with answers to a few questions or concerns I had. I have attended other colleges, but they really fall short compared to Unitek. If you're looking for a new career in the medical field, this should be your next stop. read more

Recent Vocational Nurse graduate , and I'm officially licensed as well . Unitek college had done a phenomenal job at getting me to where I am today , from day one , to graduating , to passing the nclex. The instructors are amazing ! To the theory and clinical instructors , Ms, Fe / Claudelle / Imelda / Gina / Destiny / Rose and to the amazing director , Ms. GeV . And to the ladies down stairs that runs the front desk, especially Kayla ! Thank you for being part of my journey and the endless support and knowledge and skills you guys have taught me ! To adress a lot of the concerns , first off the program Is Fast track Meaning you will need to be able to keep up with amount of assignments and lectures being thrown at you . It's very possible, you just have to be disciplined and motivated . If you're a very slow learner and need more timing to learn subjects , I recommend you stick with community college , that way you can go on your own paced . Many complain of it being hard , of course it's going to be hard , it's nursing school. Nursing school is designed for you to critically think as a nurse , if nursing school wasn't hard then everyone would be doing it . And no private school is perfect , they are all the same , unitek will do their part and most importantly you need to give and do your part as well . You can't expect it to be handed to you directly, you need to put in the studying time as much as possible . The tuition is pricy , but again it's your decision whether to pay that or not , or you can just go to a community and Pay less but you will have likely have to be wait listed for years at a community college unless you get lucky and get in the program! A year ago before starting with unitek , I was attending community college and was told I would be waiting approximately about 3-4 years just to get accepted into the nursing program, but I did my research and knew that sacrifices I was gonna have to make , and just like that I'm a officially a licensed Nurse! This school is the worst school I've ever been to. The biased instructors in this school choose the people they want to pass. They do everything in their power to make your life miserable if they don't like you. If you are a smart student, but are not willing to throw your morals away then this school is not for you. Going to Unitek was one of the best decisions I have made for myself and family. The process of enrolling was easy and clear. I was made aware of everything I was signing up for including the financial part. Ms. Childress, the MA instructor was so great! She really cares about her students and keeps the morale high throughout the program! Because I went during the pandemic classes were partially online and labs were twice a week. Doing this hybrid program made sense and I think the school navigated this changes well. After instruction portion was the externship which the school arranged for the student. It's part of the learning and was good to get hands on experience and ease into the career. Everyone I went to school with is already working and Marissa in the business office helped out a lot to get us placed at jobs we really love. I went in for an estimate on how much the school would charge for the LVN program. They knew I qualified for financial aid and assured me that I only had to worry for $8,200 to pay the school. The program cost $33,600 after financial aid that would leave me with 8,200 to pay the school. After research and estimates from other schools I came to learn that you would need to take loans from the department of education to help pay. Confused on why Unitek was less expensive I went home to look at my estimates. Unitek never told me they would be taking about $18,000 Worth of loans on my behalf. They highlighted and told me all I needed to worry about was the $8,200. I feel like a sucker for trusting and believing and not noticing the subsidized loan and un-subsidized loans written on the break down. keyword LOAN as in, it needs to be paid back! They kept sugar coating "only worry for the $8,200" yeah right.... A total $26,000 worth of loans with different interest rates one for Unitek ,and two to the Departement of Education. Glad I avoided them. Do research get estimates from other schools don't settle for the first one you see. read more
