    Entrance to dog park
    Amy K.

This is the best KOA around! The grounds were beautiful and taken care of. I hope it stays that way. They told us this place used to be privately owned and just became a KOA. They have large parking spaces in front to leave your rig while you check in. Someone drives a golf cart and leads you to your site. Every site has a picnic table and a small cement slab and almont every site had at least one tree. They told us to try to keep everything off the grass because they were trying to grow it nice. (I can totally respect that.) They have a grassy dog park tucked away in the back with sail shades. There were also other small areas for dogs to sniff around and do their thing. There was a huge grass area in front of the complex too that was great. The pool was heated and was so nice. They have a cool bar/restaurant called the Crest that a lot of locals go to. We can't wait to go back. It was so relaxing.

The sites themselves are good, which you would expect from a KOA- clean, flat, small concrete pad for picnic table, and crushed gravel parking spots. The roads are smooth and flat which made scootering fun for the kids. Aside from that, I have no positive things to say. The "playground" is extremely small, something you'd have in your backyard. The "mini golf" is a joke, so small, and some of the holes are not even functional. There is a train track that runs right by the campgrounds and trains go through all hours of the day and night. They lay on their horn repeatedly until they've passed. There is a code for the bathrooms and showers, but no code or lock for the pool which is not safe considering we saw homeless people walking around the campground. One night we called security about a homeless man who was walking through the campgrounds at 9:45 pm with his arms full of things that were obviously not his. The next morning we found out that the pool had been vandalized and was closed for the rest of the week. They recommend that you lock all of your things up because they said they've had issues during the day as well. That's understandable since the front gates are open and unlocked all day long. But the walls around the property do have spikes on top of them (which is never a good sign). They do not allow easy ups or any kind of shade besides an umbrella in the table. They do not allow anything on the grass on your site, including chairs. The sprinklers next to our site were broken and flooded underneath the trailers every night, even on the weekends when maintenance said the sprinklers shouldn't have been running. There were flies, cockroaches, red ants, beetles, etc throughout the campground. The surrounding area isn't good either- the day the pool closed for who knew how long, we took the kids to River Park & playground and witnessed two homeless men fighting and cussing at each other. We couldn't even use the restrooms there because homeless people were camped out in front of them. Would not recommend- don't go here. There are much nicer places elsewhere.

These guys were nice enough to help move the power to another unit.

I've stayed here twice in a month's time, and it will be my go to when I am in Bakersfield…read more Our suite was huge both visits, with a kitchen that had a fridge and real stove! If we were staying longer, we would have really used those. We did use the freezer and the microwave, and they were fine. There's a sitting area with a comfortable loveseat and coffee table. The TV is oddly off to the side, perpendicular to both the bed and the couch. We didn't watch TV, but it would be difficult to see the screen as it is currently laid out. The bathroom is huge with a tub and shower combo. There's a nice dressing area with a huge closet, mirror, sink, etc. The room had a blow drier and iron. The best thing about this hotel is the included breakfast buffet. They have eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and much more, on a rotating basis that changes daily. It was terrific! The eating area is large with many tables, so no problem finding a place to sit. I really like this hotel and I'll be back!

+ 1 star for housekeeping staff (I can tell they work really hard at trying to keep this property…read moreclean) + 1 star for location and coffee in the lobby each AM To start: we knew this was a budget hotel and we're not expecting anything but a clean room. Have stayed at many Hilton properties of all kinds. While our room was clean the property itself showed neglect from the owners. Terrible odor down the halls. Filthy carpets and walls throughout property, felt like we were in an old abandoned office building when walking down the halls. While the carpets in our rooms had been vacuumed you could tell they've never been professionally cleaned and had years of odor and stains. We bought slippers to wear in the room. The bathroom was enough to make us faint. Moldy. Peeling walls. Every fixture in the bathroom needed to be replaced. This is not a housekeeping issue, this is from greedy owners not upkeeping the property. We stayed here two nights and will never be back. I wish I had read the reviews before booking instead of trusting the Hilton name that should absolutely be taken away by corporate.

The large Camino Del Rio DoubleTree hotel is home a huge lobby, restaurant, and many amenities. I spotted a pool and sizable courtyard. The hotel has tons of rooms and has a neo-70s vibe without feeling old or dated. The furniture is up-to-date and the carpet feels fresh. I liked how the rooms had neat oil themed art on the walls, it's a nice homage to the city's history. Customer service was excellent at the front desk, my Mom was given two warm cookies upon check-in. This was a nice surprise for us after a long drive from SoCal! Our concierge Rodrigo was spot-on, he provided a detailed explanation of the property's layout and informed us about the hotel's many features. Note, there isn't complimentary breakfast at this location. Any food from the restaurant is available for an extra cost by dining at the establishment. My Mom and I felt safe throughout the duration of our stay. I didn't hear any antics or shenanigans in the middle of the night. Families were quiet and respectful. Every area within the property was well-lit and parking was plentiful. Overall, this hotel is pretty convenient. We didn't have to pay for additional parking fees and we were near several eateries (steakhouse, John's Incredible Pizza, Scrambled, Taco Bell, etc.). Additionally, we were near a major highway! Don't be scared, I never heard a car or honk during the evening. You'll get good sleep here. I'd give the beds a 5/5!

I love to be able to check into a place and just unplug my phone and decompress. Over the past 20 years I've checked in to at least 50 different hotels. 5 star Hotels with amazing views, 1 star motels with broken furniture and dangerous parking structures, and everything in between. Lately I've been spending my weekend "staycations" at a motel that I never would've considered. 20 years ago The Super 8 Motel at 1219 S, Union Ave was on the verge of being torn down. The only good thing this motel offered was the rooms were cheap and you got what you paid for. Today, The Super 8 Motel is part of The Wyndam Hotel chain, and though its still not a 5 Star resort, for what they charge, around $65 per night, it's definitely approaching the 4 star mark when you factor in the cost of the room plus its easy accessibility to the free ways and fairgrounds and its gated parking this place could be charging at least $80 a night. I'd like to mention that The Super 8 Motel is located in an area of Bakersfield that is "Adult Friendly." It's located on an Avenue that has tons of personality. Its located next to one of the nicer Blackjack Casinos in California. Cold Micro's and great steaks. It's walking distance to six vintage Mexican eateries that have have Horchata and casual dress codes. And 3 days a week there is a 4 acre swap meet flea market right next door. Talk about personality! Churros, turquoise, and live music on Sundays. The Super 8 hotel has a comfortable worn in feel and the gated front gives a safe and secure feel. The staff is amazingly attentive without being intrusive or bossy. They are aware of some of the mischief that happens during a hotel stay but not at all intrusive. When I checked in I hadn't noticed that my drivers license had expired for about 5 days. (Most hotels would have you escorted out the backdoor.)The Super 8 gave it a good look and politely reminded me to "Get that document current," And still didn't charge me a higher rate or bigger deposit. It was just business as usual... with a human touch, The Super 8 is upgrading the motel daily. It's a clean and safe work in progress. I'd recommend cranking up the showers water pressure, but the fluffy white towels are nice. And no matter who you are or where your from, The Super 8 ain't great, but it is really, really good.

But, there are some things that are not 4 stars: That being said - when I am in Bakersfield for work, this is my first choice even if it is aging a big and could use a refresh. The good: Service is top notch (management, housekeeping, maintenance, food prep). I think the food quality for breakfast is average to above average (I love that they still have waffles), and I also love that they do lite bites Tues and Wed (and coffee is usually ready by the time I'm through working out at 5:30ish). I find the beds are still very comfortable with adequate soft to firm pillows. The one BR bathrooms are great in terms of counter space with a separate toilet and bath/shower combo. The 1BR kitchens are perfectly adequate with full size fridge and a hot plate. in most of the rooms I have been in there is one skillet, and at least one sauce pan, a couple of bowls, I've had some with a colander, others with a measuring cup. There is also an array of utensils, dinnerware and drink ware. They also have a coffee maker in the room, with dish washing liquid (along with powder for the automatic dishwasher) and a scrubber. The 2 BR bathrooms have less counter space and share the same space as the bath/shower and toilet, but you do get 2 full baths. Kitchen is very similar to 1BR, but they have a full stove. The bad: The rooms themselves are a little dated, carpet is a little thin and I would love to see a refresh of the kitchen pans (many of them are also getting very warn). But all in all the bad for this isn't really that bad. The ugly: If you can call it truly an ugly since I do get by...but; you really need to update the "nightstands". I love the lights that you have on them, but the plugs themselves are loose. I almost always have to plug at least one thing into the wall rather than there, and you don't have any USBs. The light on the desk is really not that bright either and could use a little update. I tend to use the desk a lot, so for me it is an important feature. I can't really comment on the pool or hot tub as I have not used them. Again - this is still my first choice when I'm visiting (and I've probably stayed at least 5 or 6 times). But I would love to see them just do a refresh.

My room could have used an update , for 250 per night I really expected a little nicer room . The carpet could use a cleaning , at least get the stains out! I'm glad I was only there for a week, the bed was uncomfortable, both beds were uncomfortable. The toilet seat was broken, two of the light switches did not work.
