When caring for a loved one with memory issues at home becomes too challenging, finding a memory…read morecare facility that meets everyone's needs is stressful. In July 2025, I had to make that difficult decision to place my wife in memory care. Ivy Park's Evergreen Memory Care Unit was the family's choice. The staff members at Ivy Park were very knowledgeable, understanding, accommodating, and compassionate. The first step was an evaluation by professional Evergreen caregivers to ensure my wife would thrive at Evergreen. Once it was determined Evergreen was a good fit, Ailee, Lindsey and Pamela made the transition relatively stress free. They were concerned for both my wife's and my emotional and physical wellbeing, and they always made time to talk with me! Once my wife was in Ivy Park's Evergreen Unit, access to visit her was never any issue. The first impression of the facility was that it was very neat and tidy and very clean. Next, the caregivers, staff, and residents all looked happy, and the residents well cared for. The residents all have different needs, and the caregivers are aware of those needs. Food is important, and the food is very good as well! My wife has enjoyed the meals and snacks provided at Evergreen. Mikayla, Memory Car Director, keeps detailed records on the residents, and she knows who the residents are and their needs. Milkayla is extremely efficient. She always has time for you; plus, she will always return a call or email. The Evergreen Unit runs extremely efficiently! Mikayla does a great job being the director! Crystal, Activities Director, is very smart and cleaver selecting activities that engage the both the mind and body of all the residents. Crystal is upbeat and on the move all the time. She is extremely patient and kind to all the residents. Crystal has a true passion for the job. She cares about all the residents. Special events like movie night, Pumpkin Patch, etc are nice for both the resident and family members. These events take time and effort to plan and execute, and they are well done and fun for all! These events are greatly appreciated by both the resident and family members. Kayla, caregiver, has been one of the primary caregivers helping my wife to make the transition into Evergreen. My wife has had some issues making the transition, and Kayla has been exceptionally patient with her during this time. Kayla always remains upbeat, positive, and ready to help. She is unflappable! Adriana, Resident Care Coordinator, is very active in ensuring everything is going well in Evergreen Unit. She keeps a high profile and ensures the residents' needs are being met. Adriana has a very calm demeanor, and the residents respond to her presences in a positive way. Adriana listens to the family members and residents. She is always ready to help. It is a team effort supplying quality care for the residents. Individuals working in the Evergreen Unit are very special people! The bottom line is that staff and caregivers are extremely passionate about their work in caring for the residents! Finally, the residents are respected for who they are!

I have looked at most assisted living communities in Bakersfield and chose Ivy Park at Seven Oaks…read more Brookdale, Rosewood and Ivy Park all have nice facilities, but I chose Ivy Park because it has only 60 apartments serving less than 75 residents. Management led by Pam, have selected staff who are patient, competent and cheerful carrying out every need of my mother Nancy's daily schedule. Her primary caregivers--Angela, Jenny, and Jordon--are personable and understand my mom's needs well. You pay rent at IVY for your 1 or 2 room apartment with kitchen and bathroom granite countertops in immaculate rooms. The common areas which include a couple of large living rooms, workout, game, formal dining, bar, movie and game rooms are beautiful and residents are charged a one-time fee equal to a months rent for their use. Residents order from a menu with daily specials. The dining room staff are friendly and create an elegant space for community interaction. The food quality and variety of choices are outstanding. The assisted living costs are based on a points system that is based on each resident's care. I found the total costs less than keeping Mom in her house with 8 hours of care givers. I find IVY is superior care than having one care giver in her house for personalized care. The quality of care is just better at IVY and I do not have to worry when the care giver doesn't show up to the house. IVY also has a hair and nail salon right next to Nancy's room. Cecilia washes and styles her hair every week at very competitive prices. The medical staff watch over Nancy's prescriptions and work with Around the Clock RNs and PT staff for health concerns like wound care. The PT staff have kept mom strong preventing falls. The front desk reception staff, Michelle, Sue and Natasha log everyone coming in and out of their facility and create a calm and welcoming environment. They also ensure Amazon, Target and Walmart packages get to the apartments. Natasha is director of billing and can help with your insurance claims for LTC. The marketing department can give you a tour. Ailey and Lindsay are low key and will not continuously call you like some of the other facilities. Ailey was able to explain hospice and memory care if my mom is unable to remain in her apartment due to higher levels of required care. She is easy to talk to and has the answers. She was also key to me selecting IVY over Rosewood and Brookdale. Nancy has been at IVY since APR 2025. When I moved her to IVY, she pointed at me and said I will never forgive you. This is a common reaction when it is time to move out of the house. Mother loves IVY and does not remember those remarks to me and my wife Suzan. She is busy and loves living with her cat, Princess. I want to thank the entire caring Staff at Ivy Park for a job well done.

(My mother had mid-stage Alzheimer's, diabetes, and other issues.) The staff was always warm & welcoming, as well as competent. The food was varied and simply great! I often joined my mother for dinner or holiday meals. Although COVID-19 put a damper on a lot of things, Hallmark usually provides live entertainment, games, and other activities. Church services of different types are held on the premises. A beauty salon is also on the premises. I greatly appreciated the genuine caring of the staff regarding sensitive & emotional issues. My mom, 80, was fiercely independent but three cancer surgeries made it necessary to either get 24/7 in-home health care or move into assisted living. We could not afford caregivers at home, and chose the Hallmark. What a blessing. The staff... care providers, housekeepers, maintenance workers and food services... were very professional and truly cared about my mom's well being. Fourteen months later, her strength and agility had improved to the point that she could return home and live independently. Six years passed, and last summer, my mom started having serious heart problems. After a brief stay in the hospital and physical rehab, she returned home only to slip and fall and break her pelvic bone. That led to more hospitalization and more rehab. She could not do the things at home that she needed to do to be on her own. I began looking at assisted living options based on referrals from a case manager at the rehab center. Wow... the typical charges were $1000-$2000 more per month than the Hallmark's fees. So, I moved her, now 86, back to the Hallmark. Many of the same staff members were still working at the facility. They were sincerely glad to be able to help my mom who was going through a tough time. There is a lot of trite talk from business and sports team owners about how their organizations are like a family. Those are just sound bites. However, the Hallmark staff does take great interest in the residents and treat them like family. I have seen them do this with my mom and countless others. My mom had more heart issues at the end of summer and had to be hospitalized, again. When she finished rehab, she was back at the Hallmark. The care plan had been changed to accommodate her specific needs, and she showed improvement through the holidays. Then, earlier this year, another episode of heart failure, but this time it was accompanied by lung compilations. At the hospital, after she regained some strength, she wanted to go back to the Hallmark. Hospice care was added to her treatment plan. I was hopeful she would find a plateau and maintain an acceptable quality of life for a while. It did not happen, and it became clear her condition was deteriorating. I saw Hallmark staffers at different times leaving her apartment with tears in their eyes. They hovered over her in her last days tending to my mom's every need until she passed. I can honestly say that the Hallmark family brought joy to my mom's life. You can pay a lot more for amenities at other assisted living facilities, but you will not get better care than the care provided at the Hallmark. They are good people.

This place is terrible. I would give a"0" star if possible…read more We live hours away from my grandfather, so when he was rushed to the hospital for a procedure and then required to go into assisted living before being released to from the hospital, a family member found this place for him. At $2.2k/month we realized jet was not the top of the line when it comes to assisted living, but definitely expected more. The language barrier is the first obstacle, as hardly any of the people who work there speak English. There is also only 1 person working and 4 or more residents. Every time we went to visit there was one poor old man just sitting on a toilet unattended to. I think he was there with all doors open for an hour or longer during one visit. My grandfather was there for two weeks before we were able to go visit. The first thing he told us was he felt that he was having trouble catching his breath. We took him to urgent care that was one block away to find out that he had pneumonia! None of the staff took anytime to listen to his symptoms or to call his emergency contacts to have him tended to sooner. An 85 year old with pneumonia is a scary thing and needs to be tended to promptly!! The urgent care immediately emitted him to the ER! In addition to the above, the food is atrocious! One dinner was McDonalds cheeseburgers!!! My grandfather has high blood pressure!! Nowhere is McDonalds on an approved diet for someone with high blood pressure and cholesterol!! My grandfather is dying now in the hospital from pneumonia and congestive heart failure and we were forced to end his residency rather abruptly from Calloway only to get an aggressive call from the owners informing us that we owe over $2.2k!!! Pound sand!! Send my dying 85 year old to collections, as you'll never get another penny from us!!

She developed medical problems, left for skilled nursing then returned for Hospice care. But while there at Magnolia Place, the environment felt like staying in a hotel. The food was good, the caregivers cared and I know she was in a secure environment. She could walk as far as she wanted, had an active social life and had a very robust life helping "work" there cleaning up after meals. Everyone made her final time there the very best for my mother and me. As difficult as death is, they certainly helped me prepare for the experience and I thank them. Keep in mind that you are charged daily until all items are out of room. So while you are grieving you better hurry it up because its $300 minimum at last year's rates. Even a couple days adds up quickly so stop your crying and get to packing... I get that maybe that's a standard assisted living norm, but I think a day or maybe 2 to collect furniture would be nice. They refuse to have not even a single item donated to them so everything must go. That's fine, just be aware. It just was a little harsh knowing that things were broken on day one of moving in and were never fixed for years even though they were safely hazards and I kept reminding them. Their maintenance leaves something to be desired. Their phone system and people's willingness to answer the phone or respond to voicemails is abysmal. It's shocking how much you have to pester them for the smallest issue by phone. It became easier to walk in to get an answer. Just embarrassing. From the receptionist to the executive director, good luck in communicating with them once you sign the paperwork. Even their corporate body acknowledged issues with Bakersfield and had communication difficulties. Memory care is just not a good place. That's probably true anywhere. Directors made excuses for bad employees' untold number of times. Activities are slim to none and all residents are merely parked in front of tv for most part. Yes, this is memory care and you have to lower expectations and I certainly did. But its horribly understaffed which really does show and makes things worse with residents wandering into unlocked rooms and stealing things and going into unlocked laundry areas and ingesting substances. The med techs I guess are overworked but it manifests itself as they just don't care. Over several years I have seen this. They stopped giving meds to my loved one because it was too difficult or they ran out and never told me. Communication was really bad and the disorganization just made it worse. If you are not fully on top of their meds, forget it. Magnolia memory care won't be either. Aide allowed loved one to fall in shower resulting in broken hip requiring hospital stay, surgery, and months in rehab hospital. I wasnt told for several days what really happened. Just that she fell and is complaining of leg pain. Then the story finally came out that the aide didn't tell anyone and only when I inquired about it was the aide terminated. Who knows for what reason or if they had already quit. I paid thousands in extra fees on this incident because her long-term care doesn't cover assisted living rent while they are in a rehab hospital. Actually between 7-10 thousand was out of pocket not including the surgery and hospital fees. All because they allowed her to fall and admitted it was their error. No apology was given and no credit or allowances were made. The meds, of which there were few in this case, were not managed well. I simply cant imagine if blood pressure and a host of other medications were needed. This facility's med techs and staff just can't handle the requirements of these patients. There were so many communication issues between the visiting doctors and facility staff where I was left out of the loop and I had to call because they just wouldnt communicate with me on proper meds or if something was called into a pharmacy. I was on top of it and still saw so many lapses in care that I cant believe they could survive a state medical audit. I soon learned that they just are there to manage a body instead of really caring for a human being. Memory care is HARD. Hard to place someone there and hard to watch them. Anyone in this situation knows this. I wish it was a better experience and I could add so many more examples of how Magnolia let me down, but I think I have communicated enough issues to give anyone in this situation something to think about. We count on these facilities to make the best of VERY difficult circumstances and hope there is compassion and care. We just didn't find that at Magnolia Place.
