It looked great, tasted wonderful (the cream cheese icing was delicious), and was on time even though the order was last minute!

This third time I was picking up 18 pastries - 3 different types- all delicious and superbly baked AND a cake. WOW! The cake was amazingly beautiful! delicious and decorated exquisitely with huge intricate frosting flowers and leaves. I'm very very happy with my order- they even helped me carry it to the car. This bakery made my special family party a huge success, everyone enjoyed the food and remarked on how delicious it looked and tasted. Thank you SO much for making the event extra special

The raspberry pistachio croissant? Oh. My. God. This thing had me in a chokehold. Flaky, buttery layers with the perfect balance of tart raspberry and rich pistachio. It wasn't just good -- it was write-home-about-it good. The kind of pastry that makes you pause mid-bite and question every other croissant you've ever had. The second was a croissant sandwich (I wish I could remember the name!), but the way those flavors paired together? Let's just say it was a full culinary experience. Savory, balanced, indulgent -- you get the hint. Every bite just made sense. Now here's the part that really says something: I grew up on the East Coast where authentic French bakeries are everywhere and the cultural standard is high. I know a proper croissant. And this? This was better. Yes, I said it. We even had the chance to speak with the owner, who was incredibly warm and genuine. He checked in to make sure we enjoyed everything -- which we clearly did, considering we left with boxes to take home. This place isn't just a pastry shop. It's an experience. And trust me, it will be a topic of discussion in our house for days. Run. Don't walk.

I don't know where I got this idea, but it seemed like the perfect casual wedding gift to receive from a neighbor. And once I got it into my head, I was determined to make it happen! My search for these mini cakes led me to Taylor's Bakery. They have a selection of petits fours available in their bakery case (Easter themed right now). I ordered my desserts online to be picked up the next day, because I wanted hearts. The petits fours are 2 inches by 2 inches, which is much larger than I thought they would be. I was thinking they'd be bite-sized, but they're more like three or four bites. When I showed up to pick up my order, they didn't have them ready, and I think they had lost my order, but they quickly added hearts to some blank petits fours. All of their petits fours are the same almond-scented white cake with a thin coconut icing. I was hoping they'd have a filling or something in them (a layer of jam would have been nice!), but no, they're just cake and icing. I got a flower-decorated petits four for myself to eat in my car as I drove home (aka the best way to eat anything), and it was so soft and melted in my mouth. It was the kind of cake that didn't even require chewing. Yum! They are known for their cakes here, and I can see why. They also have a big selection of other baked goods, like bars (raspberry and lemon), brownies, donuts, Danishes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls and lots more. I picked up two cute Easter cookies for my kids, which were decorated with blue icing and jelly bean eggs. Taylor's Bakery has been an Indianapolis institution for 112 years! Which means you need to visit this bakery at least once. While I was there, I saw several people come in and order all kinds of goodies. They had a steady stream of customers. I love that Taylor's was hoppin' on a weekday afternoon.

This place touts itself as having the "best macaron this side of the Atlantic" as well as having…read morethe macaron flavors listed on the website in French, so needless to say, expectations were extremely high for Union Baking Co. to have an excellent authentic French macaron. It's worth noting that this isn't a place you just walk in -- you have to place an order online, via Facebook message or by phone first, then set up a time to pick them up. I placed my order via email, which was a fast and easy process. I placed an order for four flavors -- vanille, chocolat, citron and pistache. The pistache was by far my favorite! I couldn't believe that it tasted almost exactly like the pistache macaron I had in France at Laduree! My only complaint would be that, although the texture of the cookie part of this macaron was excellent, the filling was a little runny. It appeared that these may have been freshly made, so giving them an hour or two for the filling to firm up probably would have fixed that very minor issue. Although I didn't think the vanille, chocolat and citron macarons were as close to those same flavors of macarons I sampled in France, they were all good and after sampling them, I wished I had placed an order for all of the flavors they had. It appeared that Union Baking Co. is more of a catering/custom order company, but they were happy to fill my tiny 4-pack order. I am usually more interested in spontaneously stopping in a place and getting macarons immediately than in waiting for an order, but if you're fine with waiting a few days or you need a customized/large order of a variety of macarons, this is the place to order from!
