I'd never been in before but always pass it and I'm not too big on sweets like that. It's a very cute rustic girly shop with a display of fresh cupcakes. I absolutely LOVED the names. The ambiance and location is beautiful. I ordered off an app called "Too good to go" so they pick random things to put in box and you pay a discounted price. I love this because it is a way to support other local business and find new places to go to. The presentation of the 4pk cupcakes was amazing and thy looked yummy. My daughter started one first and loved it u til she found an edible ball of some sort lol said it tasted like coffee, I'm not sure. I tried the white iced one and the icing and cupcake were good, different but tasted pretty good. My son had the all chocolate one and said it was coo(he's 17 ) For my family personally this isn't really our preference but I know many people absolutely love it and that's amazing. We had no clue what each cupcake was so maybe future when ordered though the app they could write on the box what each is considering they are boxed when we pickup so we don't know. The GF one was reportedly dry and crumbly, although the icing for all the cupcakes went over well so there is that! Ordering ahead was super easy online and I got to select the location and time for pick up. I've never been here before so I was hoping the photos and positive reviews were accurate. Being on Mass Ave, there is limited metered street parking available, which is free on Sundays. The shop is relatively small and has limited seating available where you can sit and eat. They have rotating cupcakes that include coconut, birthday cake, lemon, carrot cake, german chocolate and red velvet. They also have doggie cupcakes from your pups, and vegan and gluten free ones as well. I took a 4 pack home for the family. I will admit that the cupcakes are a bit pricey, but they are huge. One cupcake does me just fine and I am a big guy. The cupcakes very delicious. Very tasty, rich and sweet. The woman working there was very friendly and helpful. There is no surprise that the shop is listed as one of Buzzfeed's "25 Sweet Cupcake Shops to Eat In Before You Die". I recommend checking this place out to satisfy your sweet tooth. read more

Really, truly just so thankful for a locally-owned, specialty dessert establishment in the Mile Square. Flying Cupcake never fails to deliver no matter what you're in the mood for. It's Indy's original cupcake shop and definitely an institution and a staple for Hoosiers and tourists alike. It's my go-to for a little birthday treat for a coworker... or a big birthday treat. I recently ordered a pull-apart cupcake cake to look like Dolly Parton with about 24 hours notice. I thought for sure they would laugh in my face when I walked in to ask, but nope! I normally go to the location on 86th Street but I work near Mass Ave and was picking up some treats for the office since it was a co-workers birthday. I went in on a Monday morning as they had just shortly opened. I was disappointed by the general selection they had at the time, especially only having 2 flavors available that were gluten free. Decided to stop by after hearing rave reviews. How special can a cupcake be, seriously. Walked up to the store and considered not walking in, cuz seriously we found parking for this? I needed a few minutes to decide from their spread of cupcake, but decided the best choice was the lemon. It was so moist and sweet! We decided to sit on the bar and "people watch" while we ate. I noticed a book of cakes they can make on the table and started to flip through it. I had no idea the made wedding cakes, but they were gorgeous. It is what you'd expect with a nicely made red velvet cake. No surprises there. The carrot cake was good as well, but ai would have loved it to be fluffier. The chocolate cake had a nice fluffy texture but I did not enjoy the taste as much. The mix of bitter and salty did not work for me. Would have loved a touch more caramel or sweetness. Ultimately I chose the Maple Lumberjack. the person working the counter was extremely helpful, and even explained which cupcakes had been baked that morning. The environment was clean, calm, not too loud, and sweet. It would be a great place to take a 1st date to talk and get to know one another, or to take anyone. Lol. Who cant recent a cupcake. Though the pickings are a little slim, The Flying Cupcake is definitely my favorite of the dessert only establishments in the downtown area! Super cutesy inside with candy, gum, little trinkets, and fun socks for purchase as well as their amazing cupcakes. They have the classics and fun experiments, as well as a vegan option or two for the non-dairy and or veg eaters among us. I got the vegan lemon and it was delicious, great lemon flavor with a light icing. Recently they must have changed their recipe because the cupcakes have less frosting on them, but honestly I like this more. Before it was like 50\50 cupcake to frosting and the frosting was a little overwhelming. Now it's maybe 65/35 cupcake to frosting and you can taste the cupcakes more (this is not to say that there isn't still a ton of frosting on them).
