My first time at Balance Salon and Spa was last week, when I made a haircut appointment online with the highly recommended stylist named Grace, and I am super glad I did! As others have said, you receive a warm greeting and are offered a beverage upon arrival, and I thought I accepted the offer for a coffee but I never did get it. It didn't matter anyway because Grace and I chatted the entire time with no need for caffeine. The facility itself is clean and bright with an abundant supply of Aveda products. My stylist, Grace, listened to me and was so easy to talk to. I felt like we made decisions about my hair together. I have not found the same comfortable two-way dialogue at other salons, so it was comforting and reassuring to be in her hands. She was also very knowledgeable. We discussed doing Balayage in the future and if I ever do decide to go that route, I would definitely pick her to support me in that process! I also appreciated the first time discount of $20. Always a good experience with Lorraine she is a professional and knows what she's doing with hair. Recently referred my sister and she likes Lorraine too. But unfortunately, some of the girls at the front desk were talking negatively about the customers. The shocking thing is that the manager/co owner it was right there, he said nothing to them. I showed her a photo of what I wanted she said she could do it. I went over the process with her, ( cut, size of rod, style). It was not layered properly for the style, I asked her if she needed to see the photo again she said no, she had it in her head. the perm was on about 20 to 25 minutes. She put a lot of product in it. She would not dry my hair or style it. She said it could frizz. I left wet. I have had multiple perms in my life , with long hair , short hair and styled. The only reason it would frizz is if it was burned. I even asked her to dry it and fix it and she said she was advised not too. When my hair dried, there was a piece in the front that was not curled and the rest was all just flat. It was not even remotely close to what I asked for, that she claimed she could do. There was no life to it. If she couldn't do it , it would have been better for her to have said , " I won't be able to do that." It would have saved time , hair, and the Salons reputation. My family was agassed and asked what had happen to my hair. Not, oh wow that looks sensational ! I was and am very disappointed. I would have been sad but with gratitude had she just been honest about it. Now I'm extremely upset and have to find someone to fix it. I can't believe that a Salon of your caliber was needing money so badly that you would let this happen. BAD FORM. read more

Grace exceeded my expectations! I wish I had taken a "before" photo... but the "after" came out exactly as I had hoped. I have very fine, straight hair so if the stylist isn't precise it shows every uneven snip. I've been searching for a good salon since I moved to Tampa. For three years now my hair has ranged between meh and run over by a lawnmower. I have been going to see Clarissa at Balance Salon for almost a year now and I feel so fortunate to have found her! She created a custom color for me that I absolutely love. I booked an appointment same day and I got Kristina the woman who booked the appointment was friendly and knowledgeable. Staff was really nice when I walked in. Kristina was really nice and was gentle with my hair. I told her I was sensitive/ tender headed and she was patient and careful with my hair. I asked Kristina for caramel highlights and left with exactly that, when I asked her to cut just a bit more she was more than happy to accommodate. Overall a great experience. read more

This is by far one of the absolute worst hair services I've ever had in my life, after sitting in their salon chair from 2 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. at night, and then charging me $360 I left the salon with a total color correction on my head, my hair was fried coming out in clumps, my color is absolutely horrible. And originally got 2 1/2 inches cut off that I didn't ask for. When I contacted the manager and said that I was unhappy they offered me to come back in to get it fixed. Unfortunately my hair is so compromised and damaged I can't even fix the color right now until it's healthy, all I asked for was long face framing bangs and to leave everything else the way it was that way I could continue to let it get healthy before trying to fix the color. Instead I got a completely uneven cut and short bangs that are choppy and not even. And not once was I ever offered a partial refund for $360 I spent in the salon after leaving with nothing but a horrible service and an unfixable cut and color. Also I told my stylist I wasn't comfortable going over $180 yet the stylist took complete liberty with my appointment. As a licensed cosmetologist myself I can guarantee you that I will never recommend anyone to this salon, in fact I will go out of my way to steer clients away from this salon so they never have to go through what I went through... A complete and horrible cut and color that made me do nothing but cry for hours on end for three days straight. Hope you're proud of the services you provided. The first photos, was the first service I left with, the second photos was the offered correction. In my opinion no one in that salon should really be doing hair if this is how you correct bad services. I think it's funny how when you decided to write me back on Yelp, you decided to leave out the fact that I had messaged you immediately as soon as I got home from your salon that night explaining that I couldn't even speak with a receptionist or manager because the stylist took so long to do my hair that the only two people in the salon left was me and Clarissa, also the fact that I expressed that I only wanted to be a warm brown not blonde. That I knew it was going to take multiple sessions . But of course you're not gonna post that and say anything about that, you're going to try and save your ass. Well don't worry let me post a refresher of what I emailed you that night just so you can remember what was said. read more

Just started seeing Katie this year and she does such a good job! Last year she chopped off all my hair and did balayage (see photo). She talks me through everything I'm thinking and we come up with the plan together. She never pressures me into treatments or products. Just shares her info and let's me choose what I need. She's such a sweetheart and I always enjoy our conversations. The salon is clean, smells wonderful, and isn't too loud. Parking is never an issue and the front desk is helpful and quick.
