My experience with Balboa Brick began a few months ago. I was biking past and decided to drop in and take a look as I needed some filler between stepping stones on a walkway. Alex greeted me and I showed him exactly what I searching for. He gave all the details regarding the Del Rio pebbles that I was interested in. Last week, I went in ready to make my purchase and met Jasson. I showed him photos of the area to be filled in and asked for his estimation of how much I would truly need. I didn't want to get to much because I had nowhere to store extra stones. His estimate was 8 bags. I purchased 5 just to make sure while planning to buy extra bags if needed. His estimation was right on the money! After laying the 5 bags I had purchased, 3 more was the exact fit. Unfortunately, when I picked up the remaining 3 bags and brought them home, I discovered that that wrong stones had been bagged and immediately called Balboa Brick. Needed to finish soft landscaping, pads where already in, the backyard and knew what type of materials that we wanted to go with. Shopped around various yards for materials, but couldn't find what we wanted. Finally stopped here, and bingo they had everything that we were looking for. Without any provocation, when I simply pointed out which item I liked, he sarcastically replied, "I'm not Spiderman," as if I had demanded he scale a wall to get the item. When I asked why bro was being rude, he doubled down with, "I'm not your bro." This wasn't just poor customer service -- it was condescending, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. What's worse, they sold me base material and delivered less than what I paid for. Excellent customer service. There is a mix of trade and retail customers looking through a large selection of stones, pebbles, rocks of all sizes and colors as well as pavers large and small. I must have sent four emails explaining what I was doing and was kindly guided by the man that works there. They drive around in large movers so be careful - they are extremely careful driving these machines because they could easily hurt someone. They stop completely when they see someone or a car. Get the compliments Buyer Beware. I ordered 3 skips of DG and 3 skips of bark. I paid a little over $400 and arranged the delivery. Once delivered my landscaper told me that they delivered only 1.5 skips of each. When I called I was told that they definitely delivered 3 and that 'these are our size skips' so I can only take it to mean that their size skips are half of the usual skip which also means they are double the usual price. The guy who answered the phone emphasized this is their size skip and had no need to see the picture to make sure I was delivered correctly. I am now ordering from another supplier which delivered 1 skip of each which turned out to be bigger than the 3 skips from this supplier. read more

I've been coming here for my home and garden projects for almost 15 years, great service and amazing prices.

On 10/14 my husband ordered 14 scoops or base, 14 scoops of sand, and 180 sq ft of pavers from Balboa Brick. My husband originally asked for 7 scoops but Norm told him that wouldn't be enough and said that he would need 14. We've never done a project like this so we decided to trust Norm since he is the expert. The materials were supposed to arrive within one to two weeks but it took four. The materials were delivered to us on 11/9. While working on the project we realized that we had way too much material. Of the 14 scoops of sand we probably only used 4 and of the 14 scoops of base we only needed 7. On 11/13 I called Norm to make a return. On the receipt it says "25% charge for returns. No returns after 30 days. No returns on brick or cement. Absolutely no returns on stone." Since none of those apply to my items, and I was calling within the 30 day time limit I felt confident that I would be issued a refund for the extra material. However, when I called, Norm refused my refund saying it's against their company policy. I said that I was never told about this company policy, and he said that he was sorry but there was nothing he could do. He said that we probably had our calculations wrong. But if that were true then we'd have way more pavers and we have exactly the right amount of pavers. I now have two massive stacks of sand and gravel in my driveway and no way of removing them without renting a truck or a dumpster which will cost me money and time. I would like to be refunded for the amount of materials that I did not use for my project. I estimate this amount to be $277.50. I would also like Balboa Brick to send someone to my house to pick up the remaining materials. I will pay the 25% return fee since that is written on the receipt. I do not think there is any reason that I should not be given a refund. I am within the 30 day time limit. The items that I am trying to return are not listed on the receipt as being non-refundable. If there is a company policy against returning sand and base then it should be in writing. read more

Balboa brick is the spot for Propane Refills. They usually keep the propane at $2 per galloon. I have been refiling my propane at Balboa brick for a couple of years now. They moved a while a go from the location next door. They are usually busy in the morning so unless your a contractor dont go in the morning. Remember to tip the crew because working in the sun for 8 hours moving heavy stuff is no easy task.Also be careful when driving inside of the location because you will have forklifts loading clients and trucks will be parked inside when being loaded. read more

As soon as I parked my car on the property, I was greeted by a young man asking how he could help me. Instant service is always nice! The propane refill area is a little farther away from the 'front lot' but it's not that difficult to carry a four-gallon tank. I'd bet that with some assistance you could pull your car closer - just watch out for all the other dump trucks. I was overjoyed to find that my three-gallon fill-up cost me less than $7. The gas station on Devonshire & Woodley charges $15 just to go outside and connect the pipes! Make sure you bring cash as BBS has a $10 minimum for credit cards. read more

First impressions are huge. As a business owner, I will never compromise when it comes to customer service. So I walk through the front door. I was not greeted there fore I did not feel welcome. I then said to the guy being the counter.... you speak. He kinda chuckled. Over all it was not a friendly or welcoming experience. This was the owners son. The owner passed in 2017.... I offered my condolences. No reply. Listen, I am a big boy, that is not a big deal. Wait for it. I was then told the delivery would arrive within two hours. After two and a half hours i called. I was then told the delivery guy was running late. When the delivery guy finally arrived, he said the owner lost my paperwork. Really? I expect this behavior from my 9 year old.
