The yard is a hot mess. The man in charge, Jose, treats you like you're interrupting his job (instead of actually being the purpose of his job) He low balled me on the costs but then retracted the price when I actually picked out the product I wanted. Too many other places to buy from that don't have wrecked SUV's decorating their yard. I don't mind a dump, but I want dump prices. read more

Their clearance yard is amazing!!! I bought so many things to transform my yard and home and they always worked everything out with me over more than a year of working. I could not possibly give them enough stars! If this was based on the clearance yard only, they would be getting 10 stars, if I could. Then I had a single experience with their showroom. In the middle of the pandemic, they were very loose with their practices, which does not bother me personally at all, but it does tell me something about who they are as people. One mid-level manager worked out arrangements with me and one of the yard staff was helping to fill my order. In the middle of this process, another apparently higher-level manager showed up and did not like the arrangements made. This human side-project treated me like scum of the earth, completely disregarded my entire year and a half worth of patronizing their business at the clearance yard, and talked to me like no young man should talk to a near 50-year-old woman!! (Actually, like no person should talk to another person, but the disrespect out of the younger generations simply floors me.) I ended up leaving my order there and will never patronize them again! If based on that experience, without the previous year and a half at their clearance yard, they would get no stars and a report to the Better Business Bureau. Now, their standard materials yard (a 3rd location of their business) is pretty decent in standard operation. They don't go out of their way to be accommodating, but they don't go out of their way to be assholes, either. I will buy cheap and easy materials from them. They are less than a mile from my house. The clearance yard has been in the process of a slow relocation over the past two years. Though I will buy from their standard materials yard, and I will always go to the clearance yard when able, I will NEVER again give their showroom my business! Though it's a bit of a drive, Arroyo Building Materials has much better selection and consistently fewer twatwipes. read more

Avoid this place. When we went to get tile for our backyard and front porch we picked a porcelain blue tile. The example they had on display had a small 1inx1in yellow area. The salesman Carlos said that the tile comes with these random discolorations but never mentioned how bad they could be which honestly is false advertisement based on what we received. He told us he would "talk his manager". He gave us the run around for two days and would just leave us on hold until we hung up. So now we're stuck with two pallets of this garbage they sell. I had took my young daughter with me, to show her where to get the best materials in the valley... Comes to find out I get disrespected inside the business by a customer behind the counter that was a friend to Angel, which resulted a altercation because I was asking for a price on a certain item that was a little on the high cost. So I asked for a simple discount that I receive by tiger himself because I'm a usual customer. So after this conversation the guy decided to use a big man voice on me that I felt threatened by hate and he wanted to start a physical altercation in the business I fully respect. This gentleman got aggravated with me I was being assisted by the clerk named Danny. I went in today to buy supplies as I was recommended to this location by a great friend who owns 40 percent of the businesses in the valley. As soon as I walked in I was stopped by a man who appeared to be from the move blood in blood out. He looked very menacing, however, I ignored him and kept on my way. As I walked through the isles I noticed this man kept hovering over me and eventually got really close and asked where I was from? I quickly replied i am American but I was born Mexican. I then realized I was being, what they call 'based on'. Last time this happened I was in middle school and a knuckle head who couldn't wipe my own rear. I then said I am not a gang banger sir, I am a business owner and a lawful one at that. How dare this business allow this kind of activity and degradation. This is were you go when you need stone... Out in North Hollywood on Lankershim, these guys are the best. Now, I am not a stone connoisseur but I know my flagstone from a well you get the idea... The showroom is spectacular. I have visited many a stone yard and these guys have the best. Check out my photos.... What makes them 5 stars is one they are very inexpensive and two they have both natural and artificial stone. My wife and I never have been called artificial at least to our faces... So we went for some pre-cut 6X12 flagstone for a border we needed around some planters.. They have many different shades in the same stone and have those already separated... You gotta keep em separated... The deal clincher to know that they are for real, is we visited them by chance a few weeks before we met with our contractors. When we asked our contractors what stone they wanted to use, they showed us a sample from Prime!!!... Contractors use them and they treated us non-contractor types extremely well... Try going to a stoneyard and get some help elsewhere.. GooD Luck buddy!!! read more

The guys at the Landscape Center location are great! They had the best selection of the type of material I needed (flagstone pool coping), excellent prices and service. They helped me load my truck on the stuff I took the same day and set up a smooth delivery. We went to a few other materials yards that sell similar but this was by far the best place we went. We were sent here by our contractor to pick out stones or tiles for our second floor deck. I tried to call ahead to find out what the showroom hours were ... the company had no website and the phone number listed on Yelp was incorrect. I dug around a bit and found the right number. Seconds into the phone conversation, the person on the phone insisted that I have the wrong place. "This is Prime Building Materials at 7811 Lankershim, right?" "Yes, but we only sell flagstones, you must have the wrong place." "Uh, ok, my contractor wants me to pick out some tiles or stones for our deck, so you are telling me I can't come and take a look at what you have?" "If you must come, we have a showroom, but I think you have the wrong place." I didn't bother explaining this bizarre conversation to my contractor because he assured me he knew someone there who would help us when we showed up. We went to the showroom on Saturday and walked around for 5 minutes with no help in sight. Finally I waved down someone who was clearly angry about having to work on a Saturday. Two sentences into our conversation, he insisted that we were at the wrong place (I began to wonder if they just all did that to scare away customers or if I talked to the same guy on the phone too). I called my contractor out of a meeting to deal with this. Turned out the guy my contractor knew didn't work on Saturdays. Wonderful. But he called the store and spoke to the angry employee for a few minutes, and angry Martin (that's his name) changed his attitude, "Oh, you are looking for stones or tiles for your deck, why didn't you say so?" (I did say so, at least twice, you just refused to listen!). Martin led us outside and pointed to two crates of flagstones (one of a muddy gray color and another of a muddy off-white) and said, "These are the only stones that meet your contractor's specification. We don't carry anything else that would work for you." Wow, I love how he "appeared" to be more helpful while managing to be absolutely useless to us. Per my contractor's advice, I took some pictures of tiles and stones that are of the coloring I want and I guess my contractor will have to get the materials somewhere else. This place clearly didn't want my business and essentially told me so, twice, it's just unbelievable. Not only will I do everything I can to not patronize this business, I will tell everyone I know not to go there! read more

Beware! Highly over priced. Be sure to shop alternatives first. I bought brick and mortar from Lankershim location with my Contractor. We got home and found that they forgot to load bags of cement and mortar on truck.... on way backed, I stopped at Home Depot, and HD had exact same brick for 26% less!... crazy. I asked Prime Manager when we went back for mortar and he said: sorry, we don't compete with Home Depot. I said my other supply yard was also cheaper (12%).... he said we're just a small, 3 store company...(so is my other supply yard btw) I will only purchase from Prime as a last-choice options . read more

BUYER BEWARE!!! I went to this place to order 1000 pieces of brick they had plenty of pallets to fill my order. The brick was delivered on Monday but it came out short 225 pieces the driver told me they would deliver it on Friday but never showed up Friday or called. I spoke to Robert regarding the delivery he rescheduled delivery for Saturday before 11 Am it's now past 11 And still nothing. I called spoke to Robert only to deal with his irate, unprofessional behavior. I told Robert i neede the brick today. He tells me to show him proof that the brick delivery is slowing down my workers. I paid for this merchandise I don't own an explanation for anything. I'm the customer I don't need to explain anything I paid for the product. This employee Robert has the worst customer service he doesn't listen to the customer I was more than patient with the delivery I paid for he's accusing me of trying to get over on them!!! Then he goes on to tell me how much diesel cost what an inconvenience it is for his driver, like it's my fault that the brick I PAID for was short. He is very confrontational he kept calling me and texting me just to argue. I felt harassed. Very disappointing because I was referred to them by someone who knows the general manager "tiger" and does business with him. This kid is trying to get crazy with me a 64 year old grandmother. read more

But even though I was probably one of their smallest purchases of the day, their guys in the hard showed me lots of different stones to meet my needs. read more

I stop to ask for the price of a sealer, waited for couple of minutes until I got notice, need a sample or wanted to get a quart to show a client, so the guy gave me a price and sample, when I got to the project it was the wrong one and I'm about an hour away, so I was upset, if they can get something as simple like this how can you trust them with something at a large quality, so if you get a chance go some place else never again I will go back, I'm sure you will find some other better stores. read more

Show Room was clean and has great example, regarding the management ! I thought i had to speak spanish !!!! No one is can speak good english there. Salesman totally misled us. We needed stone for our house and he showed us a nice looking 3' x 3' mock-up of the stone. Even told us he good get us a special price. My wife and I are novices at buying stone so we had no idea that what we were being sold was not stone at all -- it was formed cement painted to look like stone! When the pallet arrived I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Looked cheap and the color was only on the surface so it wouldn't last over time. I called and of course no one would answer my questions or make a decision or admit anything. It was only after I threatened to void the entire transaction that they agreed to take it back -- after charging me a 25% restocking fee. Well I learned an expensive but important lesson. Went to Bourget Bros. in Santa Monica and although I paid top $ we got beautiful stone and great service. As for Prime....never again. read more

Very disappointed. Went there to buy some gravel. Chose one on a sample box. Ordered a fair amount of it, without being able to see more than what was on that box. received something completely different. I picked one with round stones (3/4 gravel) and received one with about 2/3 of it made of sharp stones, which hlf of it are about 2in long. I called to complain and they said there's nothing they can do about it. no return, no credit. when I told them the sample I saw doesnt reflect what I had, they told me 'Yes, we should fix that'! they clearly don't care about their clients. felt completely disrespected. on top of that they charge 100$ for delivery + 25 dollars for the use of the bins carrying the gravel scoops (I thought that was how the actual delivery was made! sorry) + $16 for a pallet that they actually took back with them after delivery! so $141 for delivery! will definetely not go back, not recommend it to anyone. read more

I'm re-writing this review as my first one was "filtered" and I'd hate to have any potential customers miss out on hearing about my experience. The management/staff at Prime was downright unhelpful. They acted like my basic questions about quality/brand were stupid. They were stingy with samples, suggestions, and advice and were generally unpleasant. Given the number of places to buy stone in the SF valley, I was very disappointed and would highly suggest shopping elsewhere. If you just want to browse, they have decent displays, but forget about it if you need any help. read more
