Not one night of drag, but two nights in a row. Yes, I know how to party! I was in town for an event and there were drag shows available for the attendees to come watch. My wife and I were excited to check it out-we love drag queens. The first night, we arrived about 30 minutes after the show began and found that it was jam packed. We were standing back by the bar and had very limited visibility to the stage. After about 40 minutes of not being able to see, we left. But we returned the next day, much earlier, and were able to stand closer to the stage. People are respectful of each other and welcoming to all. I appreciate that the emcee (I forget her name) made it a point to welcome people who were drinking alcohol as well as those that wanted non-alcoholic options, which the bar offers. I appreciate that. She also reminded everyone about consent-specifically about taking picture and video, which was sadly ignored by some patrons. But overall, I felt like it was a safe space. Bartenders were friendly and attentive, as were all the staff that we interacted with. My one complaint was the condition of the bathroom. Look, I don't care what your biological gender or gender identify are, but please don't pee on the toilet seat. Both the stall that I used as well as the one my wife used were covered in urine. Super friendly staff. Clean, with a good vibe. Love that they have different events on different nights. We went during September (Boise Pride month). Would've liked the karaoke rotation to work differently, though: I put my name in and then the people ahead of me sang twice before it was my turn. I have been to this place with a group of friends many times and the last fews months it really has gone down hill. The drinks take FOREVER and they are severely under-poured. I had to ask the bartender (who seemed very new) to make sure it was what I ordered and they said the owner makes them serve a very little amount in each drink. Wow. This place kind of sucks. Super cute (awesome balconies overlooking the streets below), but the girl behind the bar is a miserable human being. We're in town from Denver and we were so excited to find a gay bar in the area of Boise where all the restaurants and fun stuff seems to be happening. Alas... Will not be back. We ordered super simple drinks... vodka soda lime, gin and tonic, etc... she could NOT have been more bothered by our presence. Don't roll your eyes - we were nothing but friendly. She is so unfriendly and unwelcoming. Yikes. We kept to ourselves and sat in the corner to try not to bother her the entire time (it was just our group of four and one or two other couples in the entire place, so it's not even like this place was busy). my friend group and i came in around 1 am on our friends 21st birthday and we're rudely greeted and were refused service and asked to leave because according to "state law" they were unable to serve her until the next morning even though LEGALLY it was her birthday. They stated it was against their policy but regardless not a single happy birthday wish was given to her and they just wanted to close the establishment early. Would not recommend going to The Balcony for any celebrations unless you want to leave sad. read more

What a beautiful, clean and charming safe place for drag shows, dancing or just hanging out on their large patio that overlooks the lively downtown. Two bars with friendly bar tenders. I was hired to DJ here twice. Both times I was underpaid for my service. When I bring this up to the booker Maksym Klymenko he tries every excuse to not pay me in full until I say I will sue the balcony. After I say I will sue they then agreed to pay me in full as well as set up a meeting with the manager and owner. Well the reason I'm posting here is because I still haven't been paid in full, I still haven't had my meeting and now I'm being completely ignored. Don't DJ here, they will rip you off. read more

It's known as one of, if not the, best dance clubs in Boise. Sure there are pool tables, dart boards, a beautiful balcony looking out onto the many people traveling below, but it's the dancing and welcomeness to that brings all the boys to the yard... This is a "gay... gay-friendly" place. There everyone is accepted, all ages, races, sexual orientation, and more beautiful other words to describe you is welcome here. No judgment-- just a fun time. They host a lot of different events such as charity events, drag specials, an amazing and crazy pride party, Ru Pauls Drag RACE viewing party and much more! I've always had a great time at this place when I've visited Boise.

Visiting from out of town, and was disappointed to not be able to get in. Apparently there was some music festival so it was exclusive and not open to the public. They said come back at 11 p.m. so we came back then, and there were some new confusing protocols and long lines. It was unfortunate to not be able to experience. I have been to gay clubs all over... West Hollywood, San Francisco, New York, etc and have never experienced this. But hopefully someday I'll make it in. read more

Firstly, the bar itself is fine- it's clean, the environment is cute, and it's a good place to meet other gay people. You can smoke on the balcony, which is great! The service just kind of sucks and left me feeling oddly aggressed by the dude at the bar. My friends and I are also transmasc and we all manage to get misgendered by staff every time we go- kind of remarkable, lol. It's NOT that hard to elimate gendered language for your job where you presumably meet a TON of trans and nonbinary people. If you don't want to dance and just want to drink and hang out, I would personally recommend going to the gay bar in Garden City. The Balcony is not cozy and I really do not feel that it was made for me, or any other member of the community that isn't a white gay twink or a white binary trans girl. If you are those things, go to the Balcony! Tell me how it goes. Because I bet it won't go poorly for you. Lol. read more

First timer, here. Dropped by the other night on a bar hopping adventure and I opted to stay when my buddies kept going. I had an AMAZING time, and the DJ was fantastic! Good music and good vibes all around. 100/10 will go again. Not the biggest fan of the entry fee, but they gotta make money. Can't just have people coming for the music or show, then dipping. Thursday night, just looking for somewhere to finish the night, not a soul in sight, we were the ONLY customers in the entire place. My Sister in law asked the bar tender for a recommendation of drink and his response, "nope, we are all adults here who should know what we want to drink." Absolutely uncalled for. A joke of customer service. And a poor excuse for a representation of your place of business. I would NEVER recommend this place with you as an employee. This place has such a wonderful vibe--diverse, down-to-earth, and just plain delightful. Great dance music and a really fun crowd on the weekends. Service is always friendly and fast. The cocktails are typical dance club style (stiff, but not particularly fine--beware of the drink dubbed the "liquid cocaine"! Absolutely lethal--partially because it tastes so harmless--don't say I didn't warn you!). As someone else mentioned, they have a great wrap around balcony (hence--"The Balcony"), which is a great place to enjoy a casual evening of cocktails and conversation on a hot summer night. Fun drag shows on occasion as well! $5 cover after 9pm on Friday and Saturday nights. Drinks are reasonably priced. Definitely my favorite dance club in Boise. read more

Inconsistent drink pricing, their new weekend DJ is lame and unoriginal, they charge for water, and it isn't all that gay-friendly these days. You go out on a Friday or Saturday night and all the drunk women out on bachelorette parties just love taking photos with the gays like they're a freaking zoo-animal attraction. I vote this the best night spot in Boise! I am not gay, lesbian or transexual - but that doesn't matter, it's still the best hot spot in Boise to go! The music, the drinks, the bartenders and the people are all very nice and down to earth. My sister and her boyfriend took me here over the summer and they didn't tell me anything about the place other than it is something I won't find back home in Philly. Well no doubt they were right. I had a great time, probably one of the top 10 nights I've had in a club. I love to people watch and there are straights, gays, lesbians, couples, transexuals all in one place and everyone is accepted. However, you have to go on a weekend, not during the week. I had so much fun, before I left to come back to Philly I asked to go back there (which was during the week) and it wasn't anything like it was on the weekend. So my personal advice ... If you ever visit Boise, ID - be sure to visit the Balcony! read more

The Balcony is a big bar, bigger than most gay bars one expects to find in Manhattan, and very stylish to boot. It's on the second floor of a downtown rehabbed building and it's well designed and very functional as well as inviting. There is a main bar and a smaller satellite bar, a large dance floor, an authentic balcony from which one can perch and watch all the twinks, wannabe's and burn outs snub and rub each other while the sun sinks ever further into the sky. The music is usually pretty good, the DJ'd work from a booth on the balcony level and the sound system is top notch. Drinks are fairly priced, somewhat weak and served by some hot bartenders and waiter staffers, some with warm smiles, some with feckless and futlile stretch marks from saving for too long for that 1st botox treatment. All in all it's a fun place for dancing and romancing with a little redneck drama thrown in for good measure. It's definitely where all the cuties go in Boise. There seems to be a large hetero clientele much of the time and that seems to dampen the goings on one finds at most hip gay clubs, but it can be a lot of fun. read more

Stopped by here on friday with a group of 6. Although normally I don't frequent Gay Bars I found this place to be entertaining with the Drag Show/Lip Sync going on. The Drinks were reasonable and well made and even on a busy Friday night there was seating available for our group and the cover was reasonable. There is a Balcony outside that is good for Smokers or just for a breath of fresh air. Altogether I have no Complaints read more

To me it's just a bar where you can participate in that if you want, or don't want, or drink or don't drink, dance or don't dance. My point is I feel comfortable there doing what I want to do which may or may not be a combination of the above on any given day! I've been coming to this bar for 7 years with friends and always found it to be pretty decent. Drinks are kind of overpriced... Recently though, the staff has been exceptionally rude. Twice in a row we stopped in with friends for a few drinks, and there have been a few staff members that have been awful to me and my group of friends. Some of the bar tenders are super unfriendly. They glare when making drinks and are unfriendly when we ask for easy stuff like straws or water. There is one girl there with curly bleach blonde hair (looks like a perm or something) and has glasses... SHE is absolutely the rudest person i have ever encountered. She obviously doesn't like people in our group of friends and makes it known each time we come in. She walks by our table all night, even when there isnt anything to pick up or wipe down. I think she is just looking for reasons to not like us or ask us to leave. I don't think someone like her should be working in an establishment where she "knows" a lot of people in the gay community BUT ALSO doesn't like a lot of people in the same community. I've always been comfortable going there, but ever since she started working there she has made me personally, my gf and our whole group of friends reconsider that place. She even tried to deny our entry one time and it was extremely awkward. Her coworker had to tell her that we were fine to come in & looked at her like, "why are you denying them...they are fine." She's started fights and then tried kicking my friends out because she didn't like the girl they were with...(bad blood or something) She's tried to deny my military ID too...and i know for a FACT that Balcony club offers military discount and 100% accepts the ID. She has ALSO yelled at me and my gf as we were walking out of the establishment and already out the doorway of the balcony sign...It was uncomfortable for us, embarrassing for your establishment and very uncalled for. I wouldn't ever employ someone who yells at their guests. This is just a few examples of why i wont be coming back to this place until she is fired or the management changes a few things. read more

Me and my friend went here and immediately were treated so unkindly and rude. The guy who went to our table was taking a little long (not a big deal) but upon him leaving we realized we also wanted something else. So I asked a nearby guy if we could get it which he was fine with doing. Then I had a random guy who worked there come to us and tell us to only ask our server for anything which was weird to us. But again not the worst thing. My friend and I before leaving went to the restroom which we were kind of joking about the whole situation to ourselves when a guy who worked there was there and literally shamed us and told us he doesn't care and "scooted" us. I had stopped going to the Balcony Club because the previous owners were running it into the ground. But, it has been saved! The new owner has cleaned it up. New paint, restrooms are spotless, tons of entertainment and the staff is smiling again. The drinks are great and for a busy dance club the staff is extremely efficient. The dance floor is large and in the center of the club. Very open and welcoming. If you want to dance in Boise, this is your place! read more

My favorite bar in downtown Boise! LGBTQA friendly and everyone is welcome. They have a great dance floor with a few risen stage sections. The DJ plays great dance music and the drinks are great prices. The staff is friendly and attentive. They have lots of events including drag queen and belly dance shows, karaoke nights, and themed party nights. I have personally performed there as a belly dancer many times and the Balcony always provides us with s private place to change and they make us feel welcome and wanted. read more
