This is always my favorite grocery store to pop into when I visit my hometown. Mainly because Charlotte still works there (from the Hay Day days back when I was a little kid!) She's just the best. Some of my go to items: - Any and all of the baked goods are to die for- pastries, desserts, cakes, the blondie brownies, literally all of them - Fantastic salad bar with tons of options - Fresh juice, farm-bottled milk, and a huge array of beverages - The tomato / mozzarella sandwich on a baguette is my go to for beach days - Prepared foods (quiche, pastas, etc.) are always great when you don't feel like cooking / going out - It may be a little store, but it has a huge selection cheese / meats / olives for all of your charcuterie needs They used to have a great coffee / panini bar area...not sure if they still do given it's a wine & spirits section now. But cool to see they now have a little designated wine/beer/liquor spot in store. Over all, a must-stop whenever I'm back in town. read more

The Balducci's in Westport was well run, but someone decided to let go, all the familiar faces that made this place great. It is no secret, that this market, was sold to Kings. Since then, the quality of food, and produce has gone down. This has nothing to do with the staff, who, were nothing but helpful, kind, and added some brightness to my day, and became familiar faces. No one brought it to my attention, of the change in this market, but it is noticeable amongst the new employees they hired. Lazy, don't know anything I'm asking, and never at the counter. So if you thought, that by letting go the amazing staff that once made this place amazing was your answer, you got it extremely wrong. What a shame. Only a few of the original staff remain , and if they go, I go. And I was spending upwards to $1000 a week here. Really disappointed in how corporate has treated their employees. My first few times shopping there were good, and thought I would continue shopping there. But the very recent experience on last Friday (Jan 28)- a catering order together with a specific cake from the bakery dept- made me decide never to go back there. They didn't give us the cake (a torte) I ordered when the driver delivered the catering to us; we called the store and the store manager was very nice and apologetic and arranged to deliver the cake to us and we appreciated it. However, when the cake was delivered, it was the wrong cake. The wrong cake was not fresh at all- it's packed over a week ago (on Jan 22) and was packed even a coupld of days BEFORE the date I placed the catering order (Jan 24). Also, there were an 8-dollar differenct between the wrong cake ($24.99) and the cake I paid ($32.99). The store manager was once again very appologetic and told me when we called back that he will have the one who is in charge of the bakery dept to call me to offer apology and issue a refund to us. We did receive the phone call the next day- but the one who called me was talking with the attitude as if they didn't make anything wrong, even saying she was not aware that they have that kind of cake flavor (meaning the wrong cake I received)- I sent her the pictures under her request as a proof. (After I took the picture of the cake, I threw the unfresh cake into garbage!!) And she has never got back to me, not by email, nor by phone and no refund issued. As it's more of an ETHICAL principle than a money issue to me, I decided to call them again today. When they finally transferred my call to her, this same person on the phone was very rude in attitude, and did not even want to admit their mistake. And I have also not received a refund issued yet. This store just lost a potential customer who shops often and paid $$$ on groceries, all because of this lousy service in bakering deparment. read more

I am in love--and hope it continues! I am not at all a fan of grocery stores, and as they are all chains now--there is little hope in change. I did find some hope and inspiration in Balducci's. Small but clean store, which even in /Jan offered local produce and other local CT products. For me this is a plus and no brainer. Why do not grocery stores regularly do this--offer in season fruits, veggies, etc from local farms? Or just any products from local vendors? Wonderful assortment of Italian products, and also not just Italian hams. They have a wonderful Jambon de Paris (Madrange)--which is the only ham to use in eggs Benedict and Croque Monsieur's for not only authenticity, but pure delsiousness, . Also in house home made roast beef which pales in comparison to any other (Boar's Head ain't made in house and ain't the only choice). Lots of duck products--which are so difficult to find in chain grocery stores. Lovely fresh breads and other baked goodies. A breath of fresh air! read more

Balducci's is pretty expensive but pretty good. It's not a full grocery store but has the essentials. The prepared foods are good and I usually pick some up whenever I'm there. I tend to get things I can't get at a regular grocery store. This time it was the spicy chicken soup (good) and something called a hami melon, which is a Chinese cantaloupe and also good. It's worth stopping if you're in the neighborhood but be prepared for the prices that make Whole Foods seem like Walmart. But hey, you get what you pay for. read more

The Balducci's market in Westport is NOT WELL RUN, there is just no other way to put it. i have been shopping at Balducci's in Riverside/Greenwich for decades and they do a very good job there. Over the past 4-5 months i have shopped at the Westport location. It is NOT well run. They are frequently out stock on simple items, the service people seem clueless, the food prep people are not well trained. It has been a shocker for sure. They need to clean house at that location starting with whom ever is the manager. read more

A sad experience this evening which looks common according to the recent google reviews at Balducci Westport. Gluck the manager of your westport store is not fit for the job and you are ruining the brand in town. Ownership has changed and in the past year to Albertsons and the quality of staff has degraded substantially. I have been a Westport resident 10 years and shop weekly here (until now). Tonight I was fully intending to buy some caviar seeing the selection but ended up having the worst shopping experience of my adult life: I was treated like a 12 year old purchasing chewing gum for the first time by the 'manager' Gluck. Gluck took immediate offense when i tried to touch the tins of caviar i was interested in buying (to check the date and country of production details) and claimed it was to prevent them from breaking (though they were tin as i pointed out to him). This was after he condescendingly said that he had to 'guide me' through the selection assuming I knew nothing of what was offered. I've never had such an experiencing attempting to spend real money on a luxury product, or any product for that matter. Gluck claimed that he had '13 years of experience in the business' though this cannot possibly be in fine food and beverage as should be the case when selling such product in an already overpriced store. I ended up ordering the caviar online and will advise my Westport friends of this experience. read more

Have recently noticed everything is now prepackaged, with limited alternative choices. Will probably have to find an alternative. I've lived in the area five years and never stopped here until last night. I needed a quick meal and made a quick stop. For prepped meals, they have a great selection. You can order food individually or make it a meal with two sides for just a few dollars more. I opted for the meal and selected meatballs, chicken pasta salad and risotto. I inquired about the pesto pasta salad, and the server told me he wasn't one hundred percent positive it didn't have nuts. For someone with a tree nut allergy, not being a hundred percent isn't good enough. I was disappointed that in 2018 a store doesn't list out ingredients to ensure safety for all customers. I realize that with a food buffet, there can be cross contamination, but I would expect all staff to not know, but be able to access meal ingredients. Also, they had a good looking chicken parm as a dinner option, but it had almost no sauce at all. I asked if there was any extra sauce they could add, but there wasn't. With many dishes using what seemed to be the same sauce, it seemed like an easy request. Overall, my meal was good. Maybe a little bit on the pricier side, but good. I especially liked the meatballs and the sauce with it. If they could list out ingredients for prepped meals, I'd be back again. read more

Whole Foods is literally cheaper but I went in out of convenience so the pricing is not my complaint at all, it was expected. Just a heads up. My issue was no one asked me if I needed help until I was almost done at self checkout (another non issue) then an employee came over and asked if I needed help and I politely told her I got it however she continued to watch over my shoulder as I got my wallet out and waited to see if my card got approved. Totally unnecessary, stand from a far if you please but right on top of me makes it seem like she didn't trust my form of payment would work and left me uncomfortable. I was given a gift basket yesterday, filled with mostly chocolate items! Went to open the chocolate items .. they were supposed to be dark chocolate.. Not only was the dark chocolate discolored.. It was melted and crumbled .. so most everything was totally uneatable! For what they charge.. they should be ashamed of themselves!! read more

This store is quite similar to the Scarsdale location, although the layout here is more favorable. The produce looked particularly good. If you join their program, you will get 10% off once a month, which brings the prices down closer to reality - on some items they will be cheaper than Whole Foods with the discount. While I agree with most of what Yelper Zoe P. had to say, I think the chanterelles were worth what was asked. The honey crisp apples were priced the same here as everywhere else, and that was before the discount. There were live human beings in the cheese department, although they could have been more attentive to customers instead of their own conversation. I went with a pre-cut wedge of Red Witch, was in good condition. As with Scarsdale, the sweet baked goods are better than the breads. Croissants were hardly better than Stop N' Shop but a pumpkin loaf (no sarcasm please) hit the spot. There was a wonderful baking smell - chocolate in the air is always nice The butcher counter here seemed less well stocked than Scarsdale, where Giovanni runs a taut ship. I took only burger meat, only to learn that it was 90/10. Dear Balducci's, for food lovers 90/10 is too lean. This is sort of a foodie wonderland! They've got jamon (Ham from Spain), organic produce, petite fore, and the MAIN reason I made a pitstop, whileiwasin the area one day... CREPES!!!! I've got to admit I'M THOROUGHLY MESMERIZED EVERYTIME I hear or even THINK about the word "Crepe"!!!! I had done a quick search on Yelp for some Crepes, as I had a craving for them! When I walked in, I quickly located the crepes, but decided to peruse the deliciousness of this store...and was completely delighted by all the savory and sweet treats I found every corner. But be warned, you DEFINITELY should NOT think of doing an inexpensive FULL food shopping event here!!! Bring your BIG credit card.. or stack of cash... they'll gladly accept either!!!! Regarding the crepes.. I decided to go with a savory flavor...as i was hungry and torn between sweet and savory!! I got basil and tomato.. i should've added some fresh mozzarella... but I didn't see it as an option!! So the flavor was kind of flat..hence the four star rating. I went to this store to fulfill an instacart order for close to $200 today. The card needed to be processed as a debit as instructed on the app the "manager" Gluck refused to look at the notifications I was receiving to process the order as a debit and treated me as if my personal card declined and not an affiliate company working with the store. He was rude raised his voice at me and caused a scene threatening to cancel an order that was not personally mine. Another employee informed him this happened last week and he denied that the employee said that like I didn't have my own ears and eyes. He then said "as the manager it is not my responsibility to resolve the issue" The order was cancelled and some older women was left without groceries because of Glucks terrible customer service and carelessness. I have video documentation of the transaction if any other better suited managers would like to follow up with the terrible behavior! I will be contacting this location until another manager can explain this policy of managers not resolving issues. read more

It's a good thing that I don't live near Balducci's because they would quickly become my gourmet food haven. As another reviewer stated, not quite like Dean & Deluca and certainly not close to my beloved Di Bruno Bros, but for CT it's as close as I'll likely get. It's smaller than I initially thought, but well laid out. Produce at the entrance (mostly organic, with several hard to find/expensive items *cough*freshchanterelles*cough*), which leads you to gourmet cheeses and prepared foods, which has a sizeable selection of quick, tasty looking eats. You continue further back to their very small cafe with not enough seating (and a bathroom), or go left to drool over pastries (much small area than I would've guessed) and check grocery aisles for that organic/gluten free/obscure brand item for your pantry. Or you head straight to dairy and frozen, my Achilles' heel, for all the hard to find brands/items that NYC has everywhere. Butcher/seafood is right next to the registers, and damn those are pricey but everything looks fresh. Staff are nice and ready to help where needed. Balducci's seems to carry brands/items that I can't even find at Whole Foods for certain things, which is great, but at a premium (as with all good, delicious things). But this girl can't help herself...especially when it comes to fresh mushrooms... read more

They are not aware of even the basic service of calling the next person in line if their register line is vacant. Then they don't greet the customer and don't thank them for patronizing their store. I love this place for picking up lunch. They have an excellent cooked shrimp and crab sushi roll that is my go-to item. Overall it is a very nice store but the prices are prohibitively expensive for me to do regular grocery shopping here. I slowly accrue store points to earn the $10 credit. The Deli is understaffed, but the lady that works there cuts my salmon perfectly. She can tell about any product sold in their case, and does not hesitate to give a sample. I will definitely return to buy all of my deli meat there. read more
