I appreciate Fresh Market more and more and am grateful for their curated selection and ease of shopping. This location recently renovated its parking lot and it's much easier to access now. Every location has a great coffee selection and this one is no exception. They really have done a great job keeping up with healthier eating habits and I hope to see more vegan, vegetarian and paleo options. I'm writing to acknowledge and thank store manager Mark Mancini for going above and beyond. I wanted to send my Godfather an Easter dinner. I'd reached out to local restaurants in Stamford about a single order and online food companies but they all offer meals with 8-12 servings. As I live in Los Angeles, I found that The Fresh Market offered Easter "heat & eat meals" for 4 which included all the delicious fixings. I spoke with the catering manager who said they could make a meal that serves for 2. I reached out to their food delivery company who only deliver food within a 10 mile radius of the store. I was put in touch with Mark who not only fulfilled my order, but was nice enough to personally deliver it to y 94 year old Godfather. Considering everything that's happening in the world today, for Mark to take that extra step to ensure my Godfather would enjoy a delicious Easter dinner, means the world to both him and I. The produce and other items are high-quality. This review is about customer service. Every interaction I've had with a person working behind the meat counter has been negative. Three different individuals have been impatient and rude. All of these interactions have been at off peak times when there is no one waiting in line and in fact I am the only person at the counter. For example, today I was asked in a gruff irritated tone, "well WHICH do you want?" when the clerk was confused about whether I wanted the bourbon salmon fillets or bourbon salmon patties. This encounter was followed up by a poor checkout process where the clerk made no attempt to greet and was rushing as they packed fragile items haphazardly. Are these folks over worked and under paid? Poorly trained? I'm sure they put up with some shitty, entitled attitudes from Westport customers but this fourth negative experience compelled me to write this review. read more

I visited the Westport Fresh Market this morning, I am there three or four times a week but this time I was surprised to see that they had destroyed the Osprey nest which is in their Parking lot to install lights! Ospreys are endangered and protected birds and a magnificant bird to see each Spring. It is illegal to destroy their nests or disturb them. If they are quick to replace the nesting platform and remove the lights the birds and the customers might forgive them. Al Gwilliam The Fresh Market is a great store. Problems are corrected promptly and where else can you shop and enjoy the family life of the Ospreys from arrival in Spring to the young birds learning to fly and leaving in the Fall. The Fresh Market in Westport offered a Valentine's Day special and we took advantage of it ordering a dinner for two; 1filet mignon steak, 4 crab cakes, delicious asparagus, mashed potatoes, 8 chocolate covered strawberries and a dozen yellow long stemmed roses. All for just $50 and all absolutely Delicious. We were blown away. The came with detailed cooking instructions. What a treat! My friend, age 91, said this was the best steak he had ever had. And the store employees were all delightfully nice and gracious. We are sold! I think that we shall be better customers of The Fresh Market in the future. :) read more

I think this used to be a Shaw's market that on the few times i went in there felt run-down and dirty. Now, The Fresh Market has cleaned it up and overall it is pretty impressive. I had never been to one of these new to new england chain grocery stores from the south, but it was nice to see something new coming up north. Sort of a toned-down version of Whole Foods, less of the crazy-out-there products, and more of the normal-down-to-earth stuff that you may find in the other corner grocery stores but mixed in some interesting products too. When you walk in its a nice large fresh produce section, the prices were reasonable even on the organic items - seemed better priced than some other local competition even. The store has large aisles and lower than average shelves, it felt very open and comfortable even though the store didn't feel as large as it did when it was the dirty Shaw's. If you are a fan of Valhrona chocolates, I have never seen this much Valhrona in one place. A pretty big snack and candy and trail mix section, and an interesting spice selection (all in little zip lock baggies in alphabetical order) We just stopped in quick and this place is definitely somewhere I would go back to if i was looking for good quality reasonable priced groceries in the area. Terrible Service at the Counter where they prepare and serve food! If you're a senior citizen, you are treated as if you are completely invisible! This is not a one time occurrence! However, today was the worst I experienced. I was at their food prep counter at around 11 am (today, Thurs. Aug. 19th) and was clearly seen by someone who was preparing food. He chose to ignore me, as did two others on that shift! Another person, a woman who was not a senior person came up to the counter 15 mins. after I have been standing there waiting and was immediately served! I informed the people behind the counter that I've been standing there waiting, and they didn't even pay attention to what I said, and gave me the look that I was simply an inconvenience! The store manager ought to look into this continuing pattern, and to those who were on shift the date and time I provided. AND the manager should provide training! It would be good if Fresh Market can acknowledge that the senior citizens of Westport do exist and should NOT be ignored. read more

The atmosphere is lovely and the quality of the food is high, but I agree with others here who've said the check-out employees are really bad. Service the last few weeks has been unfriendly, bordering on rude. And some are just incompetent. You have keep an eye on them to make sure they put all your purchases into the bag. I love this market! It is truly a "fresh" market. The fruit & vegetables look like they were just delivered from the farm. I've never seen fresher looking carrots anywhere! The seafood, meat & poultry are sublime. The pies, cookies, & breads are all to-die for at in-house bakery. It's also a very relaxing shopping experience. It's never too crowded and the piped in music is nice. The only fault is that The Fresh Market is a bit pricey. read more

What a shame, I was in there on Thursday afternoon and shocked to see a young woman berating an older man right in front of customers. I felt bad for him and the other employees as these are tough times. No one should have to endure that, ever. I like shopping there but not if I'm supporting abusive behavior like that. We LOVE Fresh Market. Hands down, the best store of its type in the area. It is not a Stop and Shop type of store where you can buy toiletries, paper towels, etc. However, if you are looking for fresh foods that include organic produce, as well as specialty items, this is a great place. Clean, well-lit, and tightly managed (for the most part). It's a bit like Whole Foods, only not so granola and MUCH less expensive. In fact, they carry some of the same items that Whole Foods carries but FM is always less expensive. The newly renovated Whole Foods has more selection, but you will pay a premium and the quality of the food is usually much better at Fresh Market. They make Trader Joe's down the street look like an unpleasant military commissary. I say this with great sadness as I am normally a huge Trader Joe's fan, but the Westport location is an anomaly-- hugely disappointing all around. The only other store of its kind in the area would be Balducci's, which I used to shop at occasionally before Fresh Market opened. While Balducci's has some great cheeses and other unique items, it really doesn't compete well with Fresh Market. Balducci's is ridiculously over-priced for what it offers. You can literally find the exact same items elsewhere for much less. Unless you have money to burn in a bonfire, shopping there is a complete waste (unless you're looking for a very specific item that only THEY carry-- which is rare). My only complaint would be that I wish the store was larger. This is a family-owned chain out of the South. My cousin has one in Louisville and says the Westport location is about a third the size of its others. However, since this was their very first test case for the New England area, maybe they will expand at some point. Fingers crossed! read more

When my boyfriend took me to Connecticut for the weekend, he asked "Honey, would you like to go to Fresh Market to find food for our gluten-free vegan diet?". My eyes lit up and I was practically jumping up and down in the car and screamed "Fresh Market?! They have Fresh Market in CT?" I reminisced about Fresh Market in Orlando, FL. When I use to go and buy Fruit Tarts and caramel popcorn!!! I was SOOOOOOO excited!! They have similar things, but we searched up and down for caramel popcorn and they didnt have the pre-packed ones. Only others in a different brand. The fruits and veggies were super fresh. Exactly how I remembered it to be like in Orlando, FL. They have very good food at Fresh Market . The problem I sometimes encounter is in that middle section where the deli is . There is no explanation for some kind of a special that they do where you choose a major dish and then you add two sides . I can't remember what it's called but it's confusing that it's marked on some of their Deli choices and you don't know what it means . If they're offering this kind of meal why don't they explain it with a little sign on the deli about what it is . Also they may have an item marked $8.99 but then when it rings up it's $9.99 and I tell them they should change it and they never do . Many times I have to wait several minutes before anyone acknowledges that I'm there waiting to be waited on . I come on my lunch hour and standing there for 4 minutes before they come over impacts that time for me and there are often distracted and talking to one another instead of talking to the customer . Some employees are more polite than others and one gets the sense that the employees aren't necessarily happy to be there . Other from that everything is good but again those special programs they offer that you sign up for it seems they could make it clearer what the advantages are to that . After venturing across the sound to The Nutmeg State for an unrelated matter I stumbled upon The Fresh Market in Westport. I was pleasantly surprised to discover this gem as I hadn't seen The Fresh Market since living in Florida. With this being an unplanned trip I didn't have much time to explore but did take the time to stop and check out what appeared to be a fairly new location. This location resembled previous stores I visited where it is physically broken down into sections giving the resemblance of a European market. The produce looked fresh and inviting with many organic options. An out of this world coffee section was just I remembered it, with numerous whole bean varieties including a wide array of Fair Trade options. The prepared foods case had great presentation and I even grabbed a few items for lunch on the go. I look forward to exploring The Fresh Market in more detail during my next visit to Connecticut. This is THE SPOT to buy fresh food items. Whole Foods has No Foods as good as the Fresh Market, which arguably is more of a store than a market. The meat is the freshest and some of the most tender I've ever cooked with. Almost all of the meat is organic or farm raised, and they're always have specials on different cuts of meat. I love that on Tuesdays they usually have a sale for $2.99/lb chicken or ground chuck-- now I have $6 Taco Tuesdays that are to die for! read more

5/18/17 After shopping here weekly fir my big grocery SHOp weekly for the last year today was my last visit. The rudeness at check out from a young person with glasses was the final straw for me. I'm not spending money at an establishment that provides rude service. 3/19/17 Update. Improved customer service. There are two new lovely ladies in the lunch meat counter. They are kind and polite. The new staff at the checkout counter are much nicer and friendly, Smiling. I like the selection of groceries, meats, condiments. If the fresh market continues to improve customer service I will continue to patronize the establishment. Needs improvement: There are a couple of nice guys at the meat counter, but there are also a couple of guys who are not polite and are gruff. I would like to see improvement there. There is a saying do unto others as you would have done to you. I know these guys would not patronize an establishment if they were treated in a gruff and impolite unfriendly manner. I just started going to this store for the fresh meat selection and occasional sales on dinner meal plans. I thought the employees seemed unhappy the first time I went but found this every time I go. They are not very helpful and I feel like I'm an inconvenience to them. And the manager I dealt with seemed the same. I travel one town over to shop there but after my last experience, I will not return. There are many comparable stores in the area where I can feel appreciated for my business and maybe get a smile. Went into fresh market today may 31st 2020 and there was the rudest girl working the front of the store. She was managing the carts and not sure what else her job was besides her nasty comments to customers as they walked in and out of the store. My experience in this place yesterday evening was absolutely appalling. I had a nice young lady helping me out on the front end. I forgot to take her name but she was African American. I noticed all the zucchini nut breads in the back were smashed by the way you guys stack them on top of each other. She happily assisted me and called the manager, whose name I believe was Bernard over the intercom. After taking about 5 minutes and drawing a long line, I decided to look for him myself. He was right in the bulk candy section eating candy WITH HIS HANDS out of one of the bins. He reeked of marijuana. I approached him and he had a very rude attitude with me, telling me what I see is what I get. He brings me to the front and rings out my already smashed bread. He would not make eye contact with me the whole time. I get home and see multiple HOLES (finger punctures) and my bread was even more smashed. I am definitely calling corporate and I will not return nor recommend this store until this problem is fixed. Please shop at Avon, people. I was not satisfied with the service I received at The Fresh Market meat counter. I asked the butcher to cut me a 1 1/2 pound piece of beef filet, and he refused. When I asked the butcher if this request was a problem for him, he said, "yes". He said he would have to cut a whole new piece of beef, and he didn't need any extra beef out at that time. I then left The Fresh Market and drove down the street to Balducci's, where the butcher happily complied with my request. read more

I finally figured out this store's specialty. They specialize in having an inferior selection to EVERYONE else. Today, I came searching for Comte and Raclette cheese. They had neither. You can find both at Whole Foods, Stop & Shop, and Stew Leonard's (none of which are known for their specialty selections). This happens to me time and time again at this store. I really like this chain - so much more civilized than most grocery stores. I only wish that there were one closer to Stamford - but I will actually travel the 20-25 minutes to go to this store. The produce is excellent and this is also my preferred place (absent an actual butcher) to buy meant and seafood. The store also has a very good prepared foods section and the general service in the store is excellent with a very friendly and helpful staff. I think that the cheese selection is a little lacking but I also admit to being picky on the cheese front. This is not the worst food store I've visited. Unfortunately, that might be the best thing I can say about it. I've visited several times and generally find the service to be lackluster, the selection to be underwhelming (to be fair, this varies by department) and the prices to be on pretty much on par with, maybe ever-so-slightly lower than, Whole Foods. The place is clean and has some neat stuff, but I find myself wanting to go elsewhere. I'll give a "3" for adequacy as a "gourmet" market, but general market type stores like Whole Foods and Fairway are way better - and even though it's not quite in the same league, so is Trader Joe's. You'll encounter some wonderful smells in the coffee and prepared foods area. While I have not sampled anything from these areas, the selection is rather extensive. The layout of the store is... quirky. Then again, this is not a traditional grocery, as you will not find (any/many?) household or health and beauty products. The produce selection is surprisingly average. Some of the bakery items have awfully long ingredient lists that seem out of place in a store that presents itself as a source of fresh, natural foods. They did, however, have pints of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream priced at a staggering $10.99 (this is actually $1 off retail. Jeni's is famous in Columbus, OH and offers mail-order ice cream). The check-out area and its employees are notably poor, as it is crowded and shrouded in lattice and plant material - you need to hunt to find a cashier. Once you find one, they will not listen to you ("I don't need a bag" for my three items, what did I get? A bag), acknowledge you or even say thank you... or say anything! Perhaps they'll be too busy flirting at the same register or conversing across registers, as was the case with the first two of three registers I attempted to use. read more

Awful, incompetent staff. The second star is because they stock decent products. The cashiers have forgotten to bag items, and they're usually either unpleasant or flat out ignoring customers. At stop and shop they at least smile and greet you. The butchers get low marks as well. I once got chicken that was spoiled by the next day...and the guys behind the counter are often loudly yapping away in conversations that seem better suited for a bar than a grocery store. Excellent, excellent, excellent. The instore baked cookies made with real butter are very good. Love the bulk area too. Bread and rolls are so good too, especially the rolls with rosemary in them. Love the pre made wraps and salads here- even the prepackaged sushi is FABULOUS. Don't know how they managed that! I usually grab one of the above mentioned for dinner on my way to babysit down the road. Never disappointed. I will say the staff has never once been friendly towards me. They are very minimal in speaking to you and I've stood there on more than one occasion waiting for a cashier to acknowledge me, while they were chatting with another employee. read more
