Mr. Baldwin you and your staff RUINED my goddaughters prom. Her mother gave you a 50% deposit and the material to make the dress MONTHS before her prom. She and her mother trusted you and they even convinced me to believe all of your lies (oh it will be ready on this day, it will definitely be ready on this day, I'll have it ready for a fitting on this day, we will be working on her dress all day, don't worry it's going to be exactly what we discussed..... LIES ) We came to the fitting and the dress is nothing you promised. The fit was awful, the design was amateur at best and did not remotely resemble what we discussed and then you had the nerve to say to correct YOUR MISTAKES she needed to purchase more material. I wanted to cry, I told my girlfriend not to trust you. I offered to search every mall, boutique and / or back alley to find her daughter the perfect dress BECAUSE YOU STILL DID NOT HAVE HER DRESS MADE TWO DAYS BEFORE THE PROM. My friend, my trusting hard headed friend , still had faith in you. The DAY BEFORE THE PROM still no dress. You said "it will be ready before her prom, I promise " The day of the prom you presented her with a dress , it was not the dress you promised , the fit was off but what could she do the day of her prom but make the best of an awful situation. My goddaughters makeup was flawless, her hair was flowing and she smiled through her tears but ...... 2 hours after putting on the dress it ripped at the dance. Brought in my long flowy but formal bridesmaid dress to get some alterations. Needed to get the dress hemmed and slightly taken in on the top. Found Baldwin's because not only is it a quick 2 minute walk from my apartment, but also reading the few other reviews I decided to give 'em a shot. I took the dress in 3 weeks prior to when I needed it for the wedding weekend (this is in JAN/FEB so I knew they wouldn't be busy with prom/wedding season so three weeks would be more than enough) and the gentleman working there (is that Baldwin?) told me it would be ready by the end of the week. When I stopped in on the date given and asked for the dress it became apparent that it was maybe forgotten about and not done, so he told me to come the following week. Sure no problem. Came back the second time (now the Monday before the Saturday wedding) and once again was given that "oops" face where I think he had once again forgot to do it. He assured me it would 100% be ready the following day and to stop in again. I was nervous at this point, but said ok. Came in that next afternoon (now three weeks to the day I had dropped it off) and my dress was not only ready, but perfect. Hem was exact length needed and the top now fit like a glove. I'm taking off one star just for the having to go back a few times/the anxiety caused by not getting the dress back until the last minute, but overall the work was great and I was more than happy with the final product. Price was good also ($65 for hem and top alterations). If I ever need another dress altered I would gladly bring it back to Baldwin's.. just would make sure to give myself plenty of time in case the same timeline played out again. Four Stars. read more

This is my first Yelp review. I needed some measurements taken for a show I'm going to be in soon and I was having a problem finding anyone who would just take some simple measurements along with a shirt and suit size. I was totally willing to spend a reasonable amount of money (nominal-- come on, it's a simple service and takes little time). I looked around for something near me (and I wanted NEAR me, I live on Fabric Row... come on!) and I finally found this place and gave them a call. I told the gentlemen who answered the phone what I was looking for and though he seems a bit agitated (it could have just been me) he assured me they could do the measurements and only charge me about $5.00. I was sold. I walked right over, had the work done, payed Mr. Baldwin with a tip and that was the end of the affair. The man was working with his seamstress and an apprentice at the time and took time to measure me and was friendly about the whole thing. read more

I bought 6 sq, yards of leather and took it to Baldwin's to have a hood attached to a Marc Buchanon leather jacket. I took the jacket in June and told him to take his time with it. I called back in October and my jacket was not ready. He then called me a week later to say that my jacket was ready. When I went a month later to pick up my jacket I noticed that the leather used for my hood was not the leather I had supplied for alterations. Mr. Baldwin attempted to explain that the leather he had used was a better match. That was a lie. Furthermore, he did not return the leather that I had supplied because he used it. I was very disappointed and offended. He does good work but he lost my respect and my business. read more

My girlfriend ordered a custom dress for her daughter's prom and got nothing but trouble. The dress was barely ready on time needing multiple changes the week before leaving the last details undone two days before the dance! Once at the prom The strap fell off, the skirt fell apart and she was heart broken! And she went to him in February and prom was may 30 he did the dress a week before prom, always postponing the dates to even start the dress . Her daughter was so sad and it's sad because you only get one prom and she had to sit down the whole entire night because the dress was falling apart and when she confronted him all he could say is he didn't know how that could of happen and would not refund her money back ... So I wouldn't recommend any one to go there for any important day. read more

I had a leather coat which was great, except that its sleeves were too short...After trying various ways to sell it, I happened to randomly stumble upon Baldwin's while wandering around. They were able to add leather to the sleeves so that it was perfect - you would never guess it was altered. Highly recommended. read more
