I've been to Baldwin twice now over the past few years. I have found the staff to be very friendly, and the winery to be cute overall, though I think there could be improvements in the tasting area and lounge. The building is beautiful on the outside and spacious on the inside, but it does feel a bit dated or perhaps just leans more on the rustic side. I think some brightness would really cheer the whole space up! As for the wines, my favorites by far are the famous apple wine and spiced apple wine!! They are so delicious and perfect for Fall in the Hudson Valley. The rest of the wines weren't as memorable for me - I found some of them to be either too sweet or too sour. They say save the best for last, but we did it in reverse! This was the first winery we stopped at yesterday and of course it was the best out of the 4! It was 10.00 each for the tasting of 6 wines and you got to keep the custom logo wine glass. I chose 3 Semi-Sweet and 3 Sweet Dessert wines and they were all good! I especially LOVED the Apple Wine ($15.00), Strawberry ($16.00) and the Spiced Apple Wine ($25.00). Let me just say the Apple Wine was smooth, just sweet enough and tasted great! The Strawberry wine contained 3.5 lbs of fresh strawberry's per bottle and let me just say... It tasted exactly like that! The Spiced Apple Wine tasted just like pie, reminded me of the holiday's and I envisioned this being served hot or cold. The way they had it in a mason jar with a chunky cinnamon stick was such a unique, awesome idea! Our first winery of the day, and in true fashion, when the first is awesome the rest fall short. I won't say that this is the best winery that we have ever been to; however, I will say that what I liked from here truly stood out among all others. Sadly, they were sold out of reds, so I couldn't see what they could do in that department. Their semi-sweet whites were okay, but didn't really stand out to me. Where they shined was their dessert wines. An Apple wine, which was not extremely sweet, but just enough to make you fall in love. Their strawberry wine will undoubtedly get used with some dessert, as it tastes like strawberry syrup. Where they win a gold medal from me is their spiced Apple wine. Canned in a mason jar with a stick of cinnamon in it. Think sweet mulled cider that is delicious hot or cold. Seriously good enough to easily buy a case and hand them out for Christmas gifts... but sorry, I am keeping these jars all to myself! read more

Tried the wine tasting flight! I chose mostly sweet type wines and most of them were good ( a few weren't my favorite ) I like that they put the tasting on a tray so I could try it outside. Prices are very comparable to other winery's. They also have cute goats outside! Great outdoor area and they even had live music! Nice place to visit with friends. More of a 3.5 stars. The wines were pretty good, although this isn't your traditional 'vineyard'. The location is in a very residential area, so you don't get the 'winery vibe' that goes with a winery tour. Baldwin has been around since 1982, although they get most (and maybe all) their grapes from elsewhere. But the tasting was nice, especially if you like sweet wines. Fortunately there were enough on the dry side for my palate. The prices were very reasonable as well. What I tried: Chardonnay: Apple notes, fermented with Oak chips. Seyval & Cayuga blend: Steel, very crisp. Claret: Kinda jammy, blackberries on the nose. Merlot: Black pepper nose. "Ember": Bold nose, little spicy. My favorite of the lineup. Second time visiting this winery... First time was a few years ago during the Pasta Primo Vino event and today during the Strawberry, Wine and Chocolate event. From what I understand it's every weekend till the end of October. First thing I noticed was the very tight/small parking lot. It fits about 20 cars or so but if the lot is full I don't know where people would park their car?! Upon entering, we waited a few minutes for someone to help us and take our groupon/give us glasses/ explain how the tasting bar/dessert bar worked. The place was jam packed so we started with the desserts first. We got to sample marinated strawberries, chocolate covered strawberries, a brownie piece, a piece of yellow cake and cheese cake topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup. Everything was okay - I would have enjoyed it more if I actually paced myself and ate and sipped - instead I scarfed it down while waiting to get up to the tasting bar. As far as the wines go - I wasn't too impressed with the flavors. Most of them had a very strong oak taste - yes I know they are made with oak or in oak barrels but I just don't enjoy that flavor in my wine. I normally am a dry/red drinker but I preferred their semi/sweet reds ... Trilogy was really sweet but I liked it a lot as well as their Blackberry Port(?). We didn't buy anything but we did have a fun time. I would come back for another event - just hopefully next time it would be less crowded. :) read more

Spent some time at Baldwin Vineyards on Sunday afternoon. A lovely space, but I did not enjoy any of the options on the menu. Quality: Baldwin Vineyards was our second winery of the day, and seemed to have all the reverse issues of our previous stop. The space was solid, but the wine was not. With two Flights we tried the Mist Di Greco, Autumn Crush, Illusions, Joseph's Vintage, Hudson Harmony, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, and Spiced Apple Wine. And there was not a single one I wanted a full glass of. I believe sweeter wines are the speciality, but I did not find them any better. Since we wanted to hang out in the space, once we finished our Flights we opted for two glasses of sangria, the Red Sangria and the Caramel Apple Sangria. Both were unsurprisingly super sweet, but were still more enjoyable than any of the wines on their own. I also was disappointed with the lack of food items, the chips and crackers should be tossed for some meat and cheese options. Quantity: Each Flight came with four pours in condiment cups. Without seeing a standard tasting pour it is hard to tell if it is a better or worse deal than normal, but it seemed fair to me. Value: $15-$20 for a Wine Flight. $10-$12 for a Glass of Sangria. Ambiance: Baldwin Vineyards is located in the small town of Pine Bush in Upstate New York. The exterior looks like some combination of barn and single family home. The front door brings you into a small shop area, which then opens up to two long Tasting bars. Because of COVID, they were not allowing people at the bars, but you were permitted to sit inside a cellar area, which is normally for private parties. With barrels, comfortable chairs, and lights hanging down, it is a nice space, though I assume it would get quite cold in the winter. We opted instead to sit at one of about two dozen picnic tables spread out on the back lawn. They had a small stage with a guitarist performing, and a few fire pits across the area. It was a nice area to spend some time, but be aware there are a ton of bees. Crowd: The backyard space was pretty busy with small groups at nearly every table. Two birthday parties also brought a slightly rowdier crowd. They are dog and kid friendly. Service: Very friendly and welcoming staff. They definitely went out of their way to make sure guests were happy and comfortable. I also appreciated the extra steps they put in to their Tastings during COVID, I'm sure filling all the tiny condiment cups is not very fun. This second generation winery was left to the original wine maker's daughter, her cop husband, and their 5 kids. The family is running a homey business; where their pourers are passionate employees who are very knowledgeable about all that is Baldwin. The winery structure was a converted farm building, so the layout was a bit wonky (meant for storing cattle). We could even see the old slop slots. They spruced it up with some nice decor, but we didn't get the 'winery feel' it's was more basement event. We checked in with our wine pass (normally $10 for 8 or $12 for 12); the pourer was a bit strange about the pass-in a judgmental because we had a bunch of stamps way. On the passport, they let us select 7 wines. Since we like Drys we were out of luck; they weren't anything special. The specialty seemed to be sweets. To continue a day of joyous merriment with my circle of good close friends, my party of five and I trek onwards to Baldwin Vineyards from Warwick, NY to Pine Bush, NY. This business is literally a vineyard as they do not produce or grow their own grapes to ferment on the premises. The wine tasting bar oddly situates inside of a large clean furnished basement, although there is no cellar for patrons to explore but gather to click their glasses. We came here for the Strawberry, Chocolate and Wine Festival which occurs on select weekends for an inclusive price at $15.00 with valid proof of identification in compliance of New York State legal age law. Baldwin Vineyards is family owned and resides in New York State's Hudson Valley. There is a small kitchen that conjures brownie, chocolate dipped strawberry, and cheese cake to accompany the tasting included in the inclusive $15.00 price. Two unisex facilities are available. There is live music with a guitarist singing Christian songs as Godspell, 1973 Robin Lamont's "Day By Day" though I wish he would sing "Light Of The World" as my personal preference. After an intensive tasting to my palette my personal choices are: Chardonnay; Blush; Port; Apple, and Strawberries. The name Baldwin Vineyards reminisce the renowned actor, Alec Baldwin who I personally had the pleasure to occasionally serve him of his presence in my workplace, which he is a very nice, patient and appreciative person. Though bearing no blood relation ties to the renowned actor, Baldwin Vineyards has a quaint scenic pond with two benches and tables for patrons to pass the time in the company of good circle of friends. My fiance suggested heading to Warwick Winery on a Saturday afternoon. Since we've been there before, and I figured it would be insane during September, he and I decided to try something new and go to Baldwin due to great Yelp reviews. We should have better examined the pictures, because in our heads we envisioned a pretty, rural landscape where we could drink our wine and take some good Instagram pictures. Rural, yes, though you're essentially in the owners backyard (with views... of the trampoline in the back). We walked in and felt like we had stepped into someone's basement that they converted into a bar. It was just an odd vibe that seemed more suited to be a dive bar versus a winery, especially a winery that boasts of their award winning wines. There was live music, which was someone croaking out Nirvana, which again, was not what we had pictured. We decided to the do the tasting of 12 wines, plus a dessert of a chocolate strawberry, strawberries with a wine sauce over pound cake, and a brownie. Now, feel free to call me a snob, but the paper plate of desserts that was given to us consisted of a store packaged brownie bite, a basic, run of the mill chocolate strawberry, and what was likely Entenmann's poundcake. It just was not what either my fiance or I were expecting. We could have done without any of it. We were still looking forward to our tasting, so went to the bar with our tasting glass. The first thing we were told was that if we wanted the champagne, it was an extra dollar. The tasting was cheap to begin with, but neither of us were in the mood for champagne, so we decided not to go for it regardless of the fact that it was a steal for an upcharge. The tasting was.. interesting. The pours are 1 oz. at most, enough for two adults to have two baby sips, which is standard at a vineyard, these just seemed like barely 1 oz though. We received no information about the wine other than the bottle being presented to us (which made me nod awkwardly, as I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking at/drinking since the wines had names like "Illusions," which really doesn't give me a clue as to what it is). Awkward is really the best way I can describe our experience at Baldwin. The tasting consisted primarily of dessert wines, which were all really, really sweet. Like, too sweet where having a soda would seem less sugary. From my little tasting, I thought the wine-a-rita (basically a wine slushie) was refreshing, and since it was a nice day, decided to get a glass of it to have outside ($6 - a STEAL). When we went outside, we were even more disappointed. There were dirty plastic chairs by a garbage can, and there were no views. They did have a cornhole board/game set up, which a fun addition for a vineyard to have, and a positive. By the time I was 3 sips in, the wine-a-rita tasted like watered down Kool-Aid, so I dumped it and we decided to call it a day. This just didn't meet expectations at all - the wine was mediocre, the service awkward, and just a weird overall vibe. Next time, I'll listen to my fiance and just head to Warwick. read more

Whenever I make a list of which Shawangunk wineries I plan to visit, Baldwin is always first. It feels like every visit is a turn of the page in their story, because running the winery is such a big part of these folks' lives. And horror of horrors, they "force" you to eat chocolate when trying their dessert wines. If you were to look up Strawberry Dessert Wine in the dictionary, a picture of theirs really needs to be next to it. I'm at a point now where I rarely need to do tastings there any more. I took home the Mist Di Greco and didn't like it as much as when I had it during the tasting. I am amazed by how quickly you can leave NYC and LEAVE NYC, be totally OUT of the citay. This award winning family operation is a fun and worthwhile stop in the "not that far from NYC" suburbs. A really decent 2 piece band played as we sampled their offerings served by knowledgeable and friendly folks. The tasting was fun, not rushed and finished with a dessert. After visiting many of the Hudson Vally's winneries, this one wa still on our list to visit. I am a bit cautious when there are alot of fruit wines on the list, but we gave it a try. What was good: The greeting as we entered was very friendly. We were given a list of 14 wines and learned we would be tasting them all. Unusual, as most limit tastings to 6 or 7 wines. Pinot Grigio was decent. What wasn't: The tasting area is large, but the number of pourers was lacking. Our server was handling so many people at one time, that they basically stopped at us, asked what was next on the list for us, poured, and moved on. Essentially zero information was shared regarding the individual varities. Not one of the 14 wines offered were very good. Poured most of it in the bucket. In all the Husdon Valley wineries we have visited, this was one of the few where we bought nothing to take home. read more

I attended the winery with 4 people with a Groupon. The chocolate covered strawberries was actually 1 strawberry and chocolate thrown all over a plastic plate. Then we went and had a great time with the guy who ran our tasting. He was awesome! We even had a difficult member in our party and he was am able to cater to him only liking red wine! Our wine guy told us that we should go buy a 9 bottle case of wine and get 20% off. However when we went to buy 9 bottles of wine "case" we were told the discount is on 12 bottles. The staff felt bad and asked the owner to honor the price and she said no and walk away. She also yelled at the employee in front of everyone which made this great day extremely awkward! Good thing he gave us recommendations of nearby watering holes and winery! If you like a sour owner, sweet wine, and bugs in the bathroom this is the place for you! read more

This was the second stop on a tour of the Hudson Valley wine trail my boyfriend and I did this past Saturday. I had read about their Chocolate, Strawberry and Wine "Festival", and I knew we had to go check it out. It's $12, which gets you a tasting of all their wines (about 12), plus a plate of dessert (a chocolate brownie cake, a pound cake, and a chocolate dipped strawberry), and you get to keep the glass. My boyfriend is a huge fan of icewine, so he loved all the wines here (which are generally on the sweeter/dessert side). I highly enjoyed each wine we tasted here as well, including all the reds (not usually a fan). Our favorite was definitely the Trilogy (made with red raspberries), and their strawberry wine of course. The desserts were also pretty good (they were covered in a strawberry sauce made with their strawberry wine). To top it off, we were offered a tasting of their wine-a-rita, which my boyfriend likened to a wine slushie. It is definitely worth coming here, and they have such nice grounds. read more

Best. Wine. Ever. I have never had ANY sweet wine that is as anywhere as tremendous as theirs. As a sweet wine fan, I also have never been treated as nicely as I have been at this winery, and that includes the Finger Lakes, Niagara Falls area, and forget Maine! Too often the attitude is that Real Wine Drinkers only like dry wines; here, they do have a variety of wine but they still appreciate those of us who think sangria is too dry. Their Strawberry wine (my husband's all-time favorite) wins awards, is liked even by those who don't normally like dessert wine, and has 2.5 pounds of strawberries in every bottle! Their Raspberries (both red and black) are also amazing, but I find their Apple wine to be ambrosia. I'll be the first to admit I'm no wine expert and I don't know the lingo, but to me it's nice and clear and sweet and like drinking water, instead of harsh chemicals. Strangely, even though ice wine is made for sweet teeth like mine, I don't like their "new" ice wine [I've been a customer since the mid-90's, when the owner himself waited on me and when the tastings were free! -as they should be for those of us who only need tiny sips] as much as other ones, but otherwise, any dessert or fruit wine fans, especially any of us who normally have to ARGUE with wineries to skip the dry and semi-dry, should race here! read more

Honestly one of my favorite wineries in the entire Hudson Valley. Usually, it seems that a place makes great fruit wines, and terrible grape wines, or vice versa. Not Baldwin. I frankly love most every wine they make. Even their "cheap house white," Mist Di Greco, is one of my favorite white wines around. They don't bombard it with sugar, or mess around with fancy barrels, it's just a good fresh white wine. And no review of Baldwin would be complete without mention of their Strawberry wine... I know, strawberry-flavored alcohol is not the manliest substance on the face of the earth, but this stuff is so delicious, I just don't care. I mean it when I say that this is the pure essence of strawberries... The drive is worth it. Orange County is a beautiful part of the world, and clearly a great wine area. When the rain ruined my plans to go swimming and hiking in the mountains, I suggested we go wine-tasting instead. I've been to many of the vineyards on the Shawangunk wine trail, but I'd never been to this one. My friend highly recommended it and brought me here. It's small and a little dark, but it's strangely cozy and the little old man who owns it is a total doll. For $5.50 we got eight separate tastings, making it the best priced of all the wine-tastings we attended that day. My only real complaint is that Baldwin focuses on sweet wines, primarily dessert types. Most of their output is fruit wines or whites, and I'm a red girl. I was a bit disappointed to see only two reds on the list. However, that's a personal preference and I decided to be open minded that day. The sparkling white was really quite tasty, and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the Joseph's vintage. I normally find fruity wines to be a bit too sweet for my liking, but my friend said I had to try to the strawberry and apple wines. Both were very tasty, and would make great post-dinner aperitifs. read more

This is one of my favorite wineries for sweet wines that are made from the actual fruit itself and not just grapes. They offer a variety of different wines from semi-sweet to syrupy sweet. Every fall, they have a Strawberry Festival, where they offer the tastings of 10 wines accompanied by a plate of dessert. I'm going to knock them down to 3 stars from my previous review. I'm basing it on 2 things-my experience there this past weekend, and the fact that I live an hour away, and it was not worth the drive. It's not a bad winery by any means, and the staff is friendly and there are a number of enjoyable wines. This winery is kind of no frills in comparison to a few other wineries I've been to since my first visit. My husband and I went for their "spring fling'' wine weekend, and were pretty disappointed. It was basically 4-5 cubes of grocery store cheese, a slice of bread, and a strawberry, along with your choice of 8 wine tastings. Unfortunately I was comparing it to the wine & cheese tasting Benmarl had for Valentine's Day, and it fell quite short. Most of the wines from this winery tend toward the sweet, dessert wine variety. They're not bad, but I'd consider them more ''sipping'' wines vs something I'd want to drink a full glass of. They're decent enough, but nothing I'd rave about, and we picked up a few bottles (claret, mist de greco, black raspberry, and the blush). However, I must say that it would be more inviting if there were some small tables, or even bar stools. The tasting went very quickly since you stand at the bar, they pour a tiny amount, you drink it, repeat. It would be more relaxing if they had some outdoor tables or an addition of a small cafe (they do have a small kitchen, as our desserts were assembled there when we went for the dessert wine tasting). In general, I don't get the feeling that I would go there and hang out for a few hours, and perhaps they don't want it to be that kind of winery due to space, etc. However, considering this winery is about an hour from me, I wouldn't go back. If I drive an hour, I'd like to be able to sit down, drink wine, and eat, and take my time. It's really geared more towards quick tastings and purchasing your wine to go home (though they do sell wines by the glass, but again, you have to stand, so...). Another thing-our bartender was really nice, and was really friendly, and gave us an extra plate of food when we asked if it was possible to get more cheese, but...he had VERY noticeable B.O. After 20-30 minutes, I couldn't take it anymore and since we were done with the tasting anyway, I had to get out of there. This was our second winery on day two of experiencing the Hudson Valley wine trail. We were enticed by the good value of twelve wines for twelve dollars that included dessert. The wines and the desserts were tasty although we did not fund any of the wines distinct enough to warrant a purchase. Like most others who've already posted reviews, I went here for the Strawberry and Wine "festival". It was not a festival by any measure - you'll get your basic tasting followed by brownies, chocolate covered strawberries and mini cheesecakes from a supermarket bakery. The wine was mediocre at best and the desserts were just bad. Pretty sure it was around $10 a person. The ambiance was..... weird. If I remember correctly, the tastings took place in a dark-ish finished basement with a very low ceiling. I also felt like this place was packed with awkward match.com/tinder/etc first dates on the day we went sooo maybe that threw me off too. read more
