You may have to wait in line at Ballard Auto Vessel Licensing Agency which from here will be called "BAVLA". Yes, I made that up. You can cut your wait potentially if you do some of the prep online, depending on what your business is. Even then there is a check in person who may be able to help you answer questions before going to the actual window. The thing about BAVLA is that all the staff are so pleasant. A huge contrast to all the many times I've had to go to the DMV where staff attitudes range from depressed to just plain old mean. You leave the DMV worse than going in each time, but at BAVLA, not so much. Being new in these parts, in my visits, interacting with different folks each time, they have always been patient, helpful and nice. GREATLY appreciated since car paperwork stuff is not fun. I renewed my tabs on 5/31 and was supposed to get them in the mail by 6/7. It is now 6/30 and I have yet to receive them and my old tabs are now expired. I have tried to email this office and I have to tried to call this office but no one responds. I literally called them 15 times yesterday and 10 times this morning. Their inbox was full so I couldn't leave a message either. The one time I was actually able to leave a voice mail for a return call, no one called me back. My only option is to now go to the office, which defeats the entire convenience of having my tabs mailed to me. Had I known this office was going to have such terrible customer service to customers outside their physical office, I would have just chosen to pick up my tabs in the first place. Y'all need to do better and be accountable. Just disable your email and phone number if you're only going to help the people who physically show up to your office. This isn't like when Amazon messes up a delivery, not having my car tabs and registration has consequences! read more

Helpful, friendly staff! There is a parking lot out in back from the main street with free parking. There will be a line but it's not as hellish as the DMV lines. The staff are friendly and efficient, even when dealing with difficult customers. There aren't many places to sit so plan to stand but at least you'll be sheltered from the heat, cold, rain, etc. Open on Saturdays too! read more

Just returned from picking up my fast tabs: the smart choice in a pandemic, least amount of contact. BUT NO!, they let a man in before me without a mask who used the fast tabs window, put everyone at risk, and did not sanitize the window station afterward. If you have a REAL health condition that prohibits you from wearing a mask under the ADA, you are entitled to ask for reasonable accommodations. I needed to renew my tabs yesterday 9/11/2024 but I had been wanting to also switch to a Military Veteran license plate so needed more information being I am an Air Force Veteran relocating from a state on the East Coast who did not charge for this option, nor did I have to pay for my drivers license either as a disabled veteran. I have to say I was appalled by the horrific customer service by almost every employee there including the owner Sabrina and the additional manager Ruth all due to a simple question I had about the excessive additional fees being added on to the already high registration fees. I originally was to pay $189 and if I wanted the military plate it would jump to $333. At one point a regular clerk, Caucasian female came over to try and assist me and I actually was starting to understand the breakdown as she wrote it out a little more but again I had one question still not being answered about the original plate fee and she immediately got angry and said "I cannot change the price that is what it is"!, and just walked away while I was trying to explain on the sheet the manager Ruth (who also made a smart comment as soon as she came over when Arnema asked for assistance to me instead of answering the question, you're military you understand rules) gave the original clerk (Arnema) who was helping me who was by the way outstanding and patient just wasn't that familiar with the process or pricing it showed the fee as $50 and I was being charged $100. So just ignored me and as I thought about it when I was leaving there yesterday afternoon why was I so shocked when most people that I have encountered in Seattle are extremely rude and I don't understand why. I thought I was conducting business with a government agency, and I simply wanted a breakdown of the fees and why it was so high and all 3 other personnel working the front window stations were extremely disrespectful and rude to a veteran on 9/11 no less for no apparent reason. I was spoken to with sarcasm like I was an idiot for asking but the truth was they did not listen to even try to understand my question in the first place nor did they want to try they instantly became defensive because they were in fact the stupid ones that did not understand my simple question so did not have an answer and after a painful 35 minutes or so I was able to figure out with the help of Arnema that is was due to being charged for 2 license plates and after I had already decided to move forward and was ready to pay the ridiculous price of $333 Sabrina rudely again tries to jump in the middle of my conversation with the person who was actually trying to help me to now answer the question in a nasty way and got even more upset when I ignored her. Something that should have taken no more than 10 mins took over 30 minutes due to simple lack of quality customer service. I'm glad I was able to keep my composure and not stoop to their level. I want to commend the actual clerk who assisted me who did maintain a level of professionalism and thank her again for her patience for what I thought was a simple question that no one in there could handle she then thanked me for coming in and I thought never again worst experience ever simply renewing my vehicle registration. Sabrina and Ruth should be ashamed to call themselves managers I wanted to also name the young female Caucasian in this review but why bother when her supervisors are just as bad, so it's obviously condoned with no consequences for poor customer service. Just nasty miserable people you may want to look at a new profession if you are not a people person and have zero patience for people wanting to understand what they are spending their hard-earned money on... After all that I have to wait to get these license plates in the mail which is also a first. All I can do is cross my fingers they come on time and not damaged. You could not pay me to go back to this location and I live 7 minutes down the road. Horrible people leave your personal issues at home when you come to work and have to deal with the public there are way worst things going on in the world for this to have been an issue and my valuable time wasted again to have to write this.
